Heather had her fingers in her mouth, holding the urge to bite her nails. She was desperate for someone to pick up the phone but she was let down once again when the phone line cut.

While she knew that some districts were motivated for an uprising after Katniss's actions in the area, she was still surprised that one would occur now. Her mind wandered back to when Plutarch called to inform her about this piece of news. It took her some time to believe the words he had told her but once they sank in, her mind began to ponder on the effects of this.

Obviously, Snow wasn't happy about this but worse is that this gives him more reason to pressurize Katniss, who was already under enough stress due to her PTSD. Just thinking about the possibility of Katniss finding this out gave her a headache.

There has to be a short-term solution to this but the only thing Heather could think of was starting the revolution. And even though that'd be great, Heather had a feeling deep down that they weren't ready for one.

The sound of her creaking door made her look up to see Luke enter the door. He appeared to be tired as he rubbed his eyes. When he reached where she was, he dropped his head on her lap and let out a slight yawn.

"Mommy, I want to sleep," he mumbled

She furrowed her eyebrows, "Sleep? But you haven't eaten dinner yet."

"Hay fed me," he cuddled closer to her.

That made me more confused since Haymitch knew that Luke gets sleepy after eating late at night. She ran her hand through his soft blond locks. Unable to resist it, she tickled him a bit under his chin which made him scruffle away from her, giggling.

"Stop it, mommy," he said.

Heather chuckled. "I'm sorry, how about we go lay down in your room?"

"Okay," he sat up and reached out for her hand. "Can you sing me a lullaby?"

"Of course," she smiled as she took his hand.

Thirty minutes later, Luke lay down in his bed, deep in his sleep as his chest rose with every slow breath he took. Heather smiled softly as she gently caressed the side of his face, wishing for the umpteenth time that her brother and sister-in-law were here to see how much their son grew up.

Taking one last look at him, Heather got up and left the room, closing the door quietly behind her. As she walked down the stairs, she noticed how oddly quiet the house was. Not over an hour ago, both Peeta and Haymitch were both here.

Heather walked into the kitchen and noticed a little white card laying on the counter. Curiosity surged through her as she picked it up.

Wear the dress in your room and come to Peeta's house

Haymitch

She tilted her in confusion but seconds later, butterflies appeared in her stomach. A smile tugged on her lips as she wondered what Haymitch was up to. Clearly, whatever he was doing, it involved Peeta.

When Heather entered her room, she found her favourite dress on the bed. It was a long white dress with blue flowers printed on it and long sleeves. The top hugged her chest but not tightly like other dresses, it felt more like a soft hug more than anything. The flowy skirt fell just below her ankles.

She was about to leave the room before she caught herself in the mirror. While neck down, she looked beautiful, her face didn't match up with her clothing. Reaching her hand up, she pulled on her bun and her hair locks cascaded all the way down to her lower back.

Deciding that this was not enough, Heather also wore white feather earrings. Her cheeks heated up as she realized that she was looking in the mirror for a long time. More than anything, she was sure that Haymitch could care less about her appearance.

With that thought in mind, she grabbed her coat and got out.

Katniss swayed back and forth on her rocking chair as she kept thinking of the riot in District 8. Everything was her fault, she couldn't deny it. Her heartbeat increased as she thought of what Snow was going to do.

She jumped slightly when Prim suddenly opened the door. "Katniss, Peeta is at the door," Prim told her.

Curious, Katniss got up from her chair and made her way down the stairs, Prim following close behind her. What could Peeta want at this time? By the time she reached her front door, she couldn't think of anything that would make Peeta come here.

"You didn't invite him in?" Katniss asked Prim, confused at the behaviour of her kind sister.

"I did but he refused," Prim shrugged her shoulders.

"That's weird," she said as she grabbed her coat, then stepped out of her house.

Peeta stood on the side of the stairs leading to her front door. He was rubbing his cold pink hands together, the air becoming visible as he breathed out. He turned his head towards her as he heard the sound of her footsteps as she walked on the snow.

"Peeta, hi."

He smiled at her. "Hi, are you free at the moment?"

"Yeah, I have nothing to do," she nodded. "What is it?"

Peeta paused for a moment, unsure of how to go about this. "I-uh, I don't think you'll believe it but here goes; I'm here, unsure of how to go on about this. "I'm not sure if you'll believe me but I came here to invite you to a wedding."

"A wedding?" Katniss furrowed her eyebrows. "Whose wedding?"

Peeta looked away from her as he answered this. "Haymitch and Heather's."

The sound of a pin could be heard in this kind of silence.

Peeta sneaked a peek at Katniss, only to be graced with her shocked face. Moments later, she broke out of her shock and held her head in her hands as she tried to comprehend this new piece of information.

"What?!"

All Peeta could do is give her an honest smile. "It's true."

"B-but, when did this happen?" Katniss continued to look at him with helpless eyes that stirred something inside him.

Peeta swallowed, "Apparently, they've been together for the last four years."

Thoughts raced inside her mind as she searched for hints about the hidden nature of their relationship. And she found plenty. The way Haymitch's gaze would turn warm at the sight of Heather, how Heather would make sure he ate, and basically the way they behaved around each other. How come she didn't find out about this sooner? They weren't even trying to hide it.

Maybe it was due to their age difference that she never thought of this.

"Okay, but why are they getting married now of all times?" Katniss asked in a soft voice, having regained her composure.

Peeta shrugged, stuffing his hands in his pockets. "I don't know, I didn't have the guts to ask Haymitch. I guess maybe our idea of getting married inspired them to do the same thing."

"Why don't you ask Heather?"

"She doesn't know about this, Haymitch is surprising her," he told her.

Katniss blanked out. Haymitch, being romantic? She would've laughed at such a prospect any other day, but from Peeta's face, she could tell that everything he said was real.

"That's…," she searched for a word to describe this.

Peeta laughed, "Yeah, I know. So are you coming or not?"

Katniss paused, contemplating this before answering, "Of course, but Prim will have to come. She'll kill me in my sleep if she misses this."

He chuckled and nodded, "Sure, come to my house after you tell her."

After dealing with all the squealing from Prim, Katniss informed her mother that they would be out for a bit before leaving the house with her sister in tow. Hand in hand, the two sisters walked together to Peeta's house.

When they reached it, Prim was about to knock on it but Katniss went ahead and opened the unlocked door.

"How did you know it was unlocked?" Prim asked.

Katniss shrugged. She didn't know how to put it in words but after the time she spent with Peeta, she began to perceive how he thinks at times. Entering the house, Katniss immediately noticed the interior differences between his house and hers.

"Katniss, Prim, over here," Peeta called out.

Following his voice, they found the young man in the kitchen, decorating a cake.

"Oh, what type of cake is this?" Prim skipped over to him.

"Mocha," he said. "It's Heather's favourite."

"Where is Haymitch?" Katniss asked as she took off her coat.

"In the living room."

Katniss nodded and left in pursuit of her mentor. She found him sitting in the living room as Peeta, twirling a gardenia flower between his fingers. He was all cleaned up with a trimmed beard, wearing a button-up shirt and dress pants.

It was weird seeing him like this. If there was anyone who cared nothing for appearance besides her, it was Haymitch. But here he was, dressed up to impress Heather. Yet another piece of evidence that the man was in love with her.

"Haymitch."

He looked up at her, watching her with a blank look. "Katniss."

Katniss tugged at her clothes, a nervous habit of hers. "So, you and Heather."

He raised an eyebrow. "Surprised?"

"Yeah, but after thinking about it, it makes more sense," she said.

"Are we that obvious?"

"Kind of, just not in the way people would figure it out immediately," she sat on the arm of the couch. "Most of them see you as a father figure

Haymitch frowned, he hated it when people mentioned that. Noticing his frown, Katniss laughed out in amusement. However, before Haymitch could retort back, a knock sounded from the door.

Immediately, Haymitch got up from his seat and walked long strides to the front door. Katniss followed him from behind, staying out of sight. He took a deep breath and exhaled slowly then opened the door.

Upon hearing the door opening sound, Heather looked up and instantly smiled when she saw Haymitch. She didn't hesitate to take his hand as she stepped into the house.

"What have you got planned?" she asked, with excitement glimmering in her eyes.

Katniss saw Heather become confused when Haymitch gazed down at her with seriousness. As he went to hold her face in his hands, Katniss felt like she was intruding as she watched this intimate moment between them but she couldn't bring herself to look away. Feeling arms holding her waist, Katniss looked down to find Prim watching this beside her.

"Heather?"

"Yes?" she replied breathlessly.

"Be my wife."

Heather blinked, her breath became hitched as she let out a gasp. She looked away from Haymitch but Katniss caught the redness in her cheeks.

"I-I want to, b-but what will happen-"

Haymitch cut her off, "It doesn't have to be official, we'll just say our vows and do the Toasting."

Heather paused for a moment to think about this before answering, "Okay, let's do it."

As she turned to walk further into the house, Heather caught sight of Katniss and Prim, making her eyes widen.

"Katniss? Prim? What are you doing here?" she asked then looked up at Haymitch again. "You invited them?"

Katniss wasn't offended since she knew Heather was more surprised that Haymitch willingly invited people to a personal event.

"No, Peeta did," Haymitch said.

"That makes more sense," Heather then let go of his hand and walked over to them. Instantly, Prim moved away from her side and went to hug Heather.

"Hello Prim," Heather said as she hugged her back.

"Hi," Prim's voice was muffled as she buried her face in Heather's dress. "I'm kind of offended that you didn't tell me about you and Haymitch."

Heather laughed, "Well, I didn't know how to bring it up."

"I tell you about my crushes all the time, you could've slipped in at that time," Prim said.

Katniss blinked, Prim never told her about her crushes. But then again, she wasn't the romantic type so she could understand where her sister was coming from. Thankfully, Heather didn't hug her but merely placed her hand on her shoulder. As much as she loved Heather, Katniss still had problems with physical touches and Heather was beginning to understand that.

Minutes later, Peeta, Katniss and Prim sat on a long couch. The three of them were standing as witnesses to the vows exchanged between the two lovers.

"Heather, since day one, you have had a huge impact on my life. I can't imagine that there was a time where I was annoyed by you. When you won- no, when you survived the arena, you gave me a certain type of hope, you made me believe in something that I gave up on a long time ago. You fill my dark days with light. You gave me the power to feel, to love again," Haymitch moved his hand to wipe the stray tears from Heather's eyes. "I can't imagine my life with you."

Heather let out a sound that seemed like a sob and a laugh combined as she sniffed. Katniss felt her heart clutching and she glanced at Prim and Peeta as they were fixated on this touching moment.

"Gale is going to have a hard time believing this," she heard herself say.

"Yeah, but have you ever seen Heather this happy?" Prim said to her.

Katniss looked at the ecstatic expression on Heather's face. No, she hasn't.

"Haymitch, you- you are my rock. You keep me steady during my hardships and you give me so much strength when I'm at my weakest points. You're always there when I need someone to lean on and I love it when you comfort me. You love me at my best and at my worst and you have no idea how much that means to me. I won't be here if it wasn't for you," Heather held the hand that was stroking her cheek. "I may hurt you at times unintentionally but know that I love you and that you mean the world to me."

Katniss looked away when Haymitch leaned in to kiss Heather. The intruding feeling in her remained as she continued to witness the intimate moments between them.

Later, as she watched Heather and Haymitch do the Toasting together, Katniss came to a sudden realization. She couldn't let Snow ruin this. Just because the love between her and Peeta wasn't real, doesn't mean that she was going to let him demolish her loved ones. She was going to do something about this. For Prim and her mother. For Gale and his family. For Peeta. For Heather and Haymitch.
