"Hey, do you wanna grab some lunch?" Mike asks, approaching Harvey's office.
"Yeah sure, but I need at least 15 minutes so I can complete these damn documents for Darby."
"No problem Clark Kent, but don't tell the boss that I took some extra time for lunch." Mike says playfully, closing the crystal door, wanting some privacy. Things changed quite a bit in the last few weeks since the merger with Darby. New rules and new people around the firm. That includes Dana Scott, a flamant brunette lawyer who he thought he would never see around here again, but apparently The Specter Effect always makes you fall again. Of course, as curious person as Mike is, he has been wanting to ask his mentor numerous questions about his love life for weeks. The last thing he knew about Scottie and Harvey's relationship was that she was going back to London to get married, and now they leave the office together on occasion. Unmistakably, Mike is not going to get anything from Harvey, but at least he has to try.
"Say it, Mike." Harvey sighs, shaking his head without lifting his gaze from the documents, but knowing Mike wants to tell him something. They don't know each other as well as Harvey knows Jessica, Donna, or even Louis, but he already knows when the kid's head doesn't stop spinning. This time, obviously, he can't wait until they get lunch.
"Well… Before you barf at me, it's just a silly question. It's not that I want to know more about Scottie and you. It's not like it's my business, but… I know you're not gonna tell my anyth…"
"Can you ask the question, Mike?" Harvey cuts him off, starting to lose his nerve as soon as he mentions Scottie. This kid really is a gossip girl, he thinks.
Mike lifts in his seat, clearing his throat. "Um… Why do you call Dana by her surname? I mean, Scottie is cool you know, but mmm… It feels weird? Did she introduce herself as Scottie when you were at Harvard?" Mike asks, all odd, knowing how his boss and friend — despite what he states — is going to react.
"What? Are you really bothering me with that, Mike? Are you 16 or something? Well, it's probably better if you don't answer that." Harvey scoffs, rolling his eyes. He can't believe this damn kid.
"Man, I'm just curious! I told you it's a silly question! I'm sure it has a simple answer!" Mike defends himself. He talked about this with Rachel, just in case she knows something thanks to Donna, but it wasn't successful.
"Well, it's a silly question, so I'm not gonna give you the damn answer. Now, please, just let me finish this so we can go to lunch?" Harvey says, lifting his gaze again to the documents. There's no way he is going to tell Mike why he calls her Scottie and not Dana. And much less in his office, knowing Donna hears everything through the intercom. Moreover, if he's lucky, Mike is going to forget about it before they leave his office.
"Nobody told you how boring you are, man? That's not how a friendship works, trust me! Batman and Robin always tell the other the truth!" Mike insists, doing his puppy face when he sees Harvey looking at him again.
"And that's why we aren't friends. Nobody told you you can be fired if you don't shut up?" Harvey answers him but is instead looking beyond him, seeing if Donna is in her cubicle. Apparently, she is busy speaking to the phone, so maybe it's just the right moment to answer Mike's question so he can finally drop the topic.
"She was Dana when I met her in Harvard. I mean, everyone knows her as Dana–" Harvey starts, clearing his throat before explaining himself in a low tone, leaning forward to his desk so he can be as close as possible to Mike. "– But, mmm… a few months after I came to Pearson-Hardman, we started… dating? I don't know, whatever we had." Harvey stops again, checking that Donna keeps talking to the phone. "–and one day I said another name when we were… doing that." Harvey mumbles the last two words so low that he's not sure if Mike hears him, but he can't risk himself like that.
"What? Did you get her name wrong? I mean, it didn't surprise me at all. Having that bachelor life has its consequences… But she's always been like your 'girlfriend' man!" Mike teases him, not believing what Harvey just said. Well, maybe 'said' is too much, because he almost doesn't hear him.
"Am I laughing? And please, be quiet." Harvey rolls his eyes in denial, without stopping checking Donna's movements. He swears he's sweating too much, thanks to this goddamn kid. When did he think it was a good idea to tell him that in the office? "Anyways, here you have your fucking answer. Now, can you just leave my office and wait for me outside?"
"Oh no, no no. No way! Now I want to know what you called her! I mean, was it in the middle of the act, or during climax?" Mike tries once again. He can't believe the conversation he's having with Harvey, but as long as he's answering, he's going to keep asking for sure.
"Goddamn it Mike, you are a fucking pain in the ass. I'm not gonna talk to you about my sex life!" Harvey shrugs, not wanting to recall that fucking night.
It's around 11pm, after a long and tedious day. They are now at his apartment after going to a good Italian restaurant. Despite being at Pearson Hardman, Harvey is just an associate, so he can't afford big restaurants either, at the moment. He just moved from the DA office to Pearson-Hardman a month ago, and Dana was going to stay in NYC for a few months. It's always been a pleasure hanging out with her, he's not going to lie, but this time just feels different. They had a great night and, well, this could finish the best way they know. But for that to be possible, he needs to be focused solely on her, and definitely he isn't tonight.
"God, I've missed you…" Dana whispers, releasing his cock and trailing her tongue up his body, reaching his lips wrapping him in a warm and deep kiss.
Harvey blinks, hearing her words and tries to focus on where they're coming from. He can be a bachelor, but above all he's a gentleman. He hates the idea of not giving his partners the pleasure they deserve, despite being the last thing he wants at that very moment.
One month has passed. One month and two weeks, to be exact. He can't drop that night from his mind, not even for a second. Not even when he's in bed with another woman. He definitely shouldn't have accepted Dana's proposal for tonight, but after all, today was her welcome back. He couldn't refuse her either.
After a whole night wrapped in strawberries and whipped cream, and then seeing her all day in her cubicle, it is pretty damn difficult to think about other things. Although he promised her they were going to put that night at the back of their minds.
Now, a month after, here he is. In his bed with Dana Scott, who is doing her best just for him. If he's honest, he's feeling terrible for her, guilty, but he really needs to get over that night. Just at least for today. He is going to try harder to really put that night to the back of his mind for Dana, but mainly for his own sake.
Donna made it crystal clear that nothing more is going to happen between them if she was going to be his secretary. And she is, so there's no way that night will happen again soon, much to his dismay. Although thinking about it, it may be the smartest option. After all, here he is, with a woman he has known for years and to whom he has never been able to show the least bit of affection.
Because showing affection makes you weak, right?
When all was said and done, he rolls onto her, trying to give his best. As soon as he makes her come, as soon as it's over.
About half an hour has passed and he can only think of red. Red locks all around his face and milkmaid skin surrounding him, digging into his skin. How he caresses her porcelain features, as if she were the most famous work of art in the Louvre, and only he had the opportunity to admire her up close.
He is not sure how long he has been thinking about her when he opens his eyes to look at the woman below him. No matter how dirty he feels, today he can only think about her if he wants to give Dana what she needs. He is pretty sure it is working, because he's noticing Dana's walls clenching around him. –One last effort– He says to himself, closing his eyes again in order to cum at the same time. His mind starts playing images of that night. How she moans every time he sucks on the gap between her shoulder and her neck, how she pinches his ass indicating that she wants it as deep as possible, how he feels her body tremble as he hides deep in those hazel eyes, and how his name escapes from her lips as a melody.
Noticing Dana finally exploding and as he hadn't stopped thinking about her, he lets himself go, biting his inner lip. "Fuck, Donna…" Harvey gasps heavily, lying on top of her hiding in her neck, wishing he could smell that vanilla scent once again. He takes a deep breath and that's when he realizes it's not vanilla he smells, but jasmine scent. The woman in her bed is not Donna Paulsen, but Dana Scott.
–This can't be happening to me–, he thinks. Harvey suddenly returns to the present and starts to panic, but he decides not to move, just to see what happens next. It may all have been left in his mind, right? He probably hadn't said her name at the moment of his climax with another woman. Maybe she even misunderstood him? After all, there is not much difference between Dana and Donna. With any luck, he can really get out of this– He tries to convince himself.
"Did you just call me your fucking secretary?" Dana exclaims in an irritated and ironic tone, snapping him out of his thoughts.
–Fuck, fuck, fuck– He repeats to himself, shutting his eyes, moving to her side and looking at her, not knowing how to do this. "What? What did you just say? I called you Dana, as always." He tries looking confident in his words. He knows she's not a fool, but admitting he was thinking about his secretary is also admitting he just slept with her a month ago. And there is no way anyone can find out about it; about them. If Donna finds out, he's pretty sure she's going to quit her job, and he can't risk losing her.
Dana scoffs in disbelief, looking at him. Something like this has never happened to her in her life. She's not an idiot, she knows full well that Harvey is lying to her, mostly because she clearly heard him moan the name of that fucking redhead. And worst of all, she's been so in love with him, practically since they started law at Harvard, that she's likely going to ignore what just happened and forgive him. After all, if he's here with her today it is because that woman is definitely not interested in him.
"From now on, I'm Scottie. Do you understand me? And don't even try to apologize." Scottie denies, rolling through the bed. She gets up and starts recollecting her clothes. –The apology better be a good one– she thinks.
Harvey opens his eyes again, coming back to the present. He knows that confessing the truth to Mike is just gonna make him ask more questions, but there is no way he's going to stop asking, so...
"I called her Donna." He babbles under his breath, in an almost inaudible tone of voice.
"Do…nna?" Mike shrieks in amazement, quickly lowering his voice after realizing where they are, perfectly understanding why his boss has been speaking in whispers the whole time.
"For fucks sake, Mike!" Harvey scolds him, throwing his hands to his head. Luckily, Donna continues with her phone conversation, although he is sure that she will be listening, at least. His heart is beating so hard it might leave his chest. It's the first time he's told anyone this, and even though it's been a few years, it's still something he wants to keep hidden.
"Sorry, sorry man… I just… Wow, I didn't expect that." Mike gasps, trying to process everything. Now he doesn't understand not only why they're back together, but also why she accepts to work with him. Like, if even he quickly saw what was 'happening' between Harvey and Donna as soon as he got hired, Scottie definitely should have known before him.
Mike sees how Harvey rolls his eyes for the umpteenth time since he entered his office and takes back. "Okay, I got it. Time to shut up. I'll wait for you at the lobby, right? Lunch is on me today." He says, going out of his office straight to the elevators, not wanting to confront Donna, just in case.
Harvey stands up from his desk 10 minutes later when he finally finishes signing the documents and grabs his coat, leaving his office. He notices Donna is not on the phone anymore and he still wonders if she heard something.
"Donna, I'm gonna get some lunch with Mike, you should take your time too. I'll be back in half an hour." Harvey says, casually stopping at her cubicle, testing the waters. It may be too cheeky of him to be that kind, offering her some spare time, but he definitely needs a bit of luck so this doesn't get out of hand.
"You know I can do two things at the same time too, right?" Donna answers all playfully with a small grin on her face. Making it clear with that statement that just as he was thinking about her while sleeping with Scottie, she could also be on the phone rescheduling an appointment while listening to their conversation through the intercom. She's not going to lie, his confession was pretty funny.
"If you tell that to anyone, I'm gonna fire you. Do you understand me?" Harvey threatens her, trying to sound as serious as possible. She definitely heard him and god, he just wants to disappear from this building for the rest of the day.
"Oh no, you're not gonna do it! That was what… One? Two months after that night? And you already couldn't live without me! By the way, you already told me you needed me." Donna winks at him, teasing him one more time. She is conscious that she said they were going to put that night on the back of their heads forever, but now she's seeing him all flushed, and it's worth it to bring the topic back just to see him like this.
"Trust me, don't push it." Harvey growls, turning on his heels and leaving her cubicle as soon as possible. He doesn't know what his future with Scottie will be, but he's definitely not going to risk screwing up like that again. Of course, that night was something else, and from time to time he allows himself to remember how good they were.
But that doesn't mean anything.
Does it?
