Walking down the corridors, he tries to avoid the surges of loneliness coursing through his body.
It was a good attempt, a great one even, but how was he supposed to do that with the atmosphere around him?
Kyo looked out the immense window as he passed a group of second-years who were giggling over a potential winter ball. Great.
Honestly, it's technically not even his fault his mood's been on a damper all day. He was in a generally sour state due to the fierce snowstorms swirling about outside the castle that were fatiguing his body greatly.
Oh, how he hated that damned Cat Spirit and its after-effects.
To make matters worse, Kyo's normal potions partner was out sick, and he was given the noisy brat known as his cousin. Momiji Sohma.
Due to his partner being out, that meant he also had to spend all three meals alone as he avoided the rest of his cousins and stupid fan club and had to loiter around other empty corridors because God forbid, he ever be the first one to arrive at his class.
To top it all off, no Quidditch practice. And his partner not being here meant he'd spend what should've been practice time, alone.
Hatori, it's been nearly three days. You better get your shit together or else...
Now you might be wondering, who is this partner of Mr. Sohma that's taken over such a big chunk of his routine? That would be none other than-
"Hey stupid cat, where's Miss Honda been lately?" he heard his arch-nemesis ask.
Yup, Tohru Honda. Saviour of the former zodiacs, and Kyo's beloved girlfriend.
'Future wife and mother of my kids.' he would think to himself.
Kyo growled. He couldn't deal with this; everyone's been finding a way to get on his damn nerves and he was not here for it. Managing to keep his cool, he got out a brief "Hospital wing", before storming in that same direction.
Luckily, he didn't have far to go, and as soon as he reached for the door, it opened to reveal a weak Tohru conversing with his doctor and cousin, Hatori Sohma. He noticed Hatori looking down at her with a gentle smile gracing his lips.
She really did find a way to bring out the best of ourselves...
They both looked up as they noticed the light coming through the doorway, noticing Kyo gracing them with his presence. Tohru beamed with happiness, her mood increasing a great deal, as she pounced on him, her arms around his neck as he held her tightly while nuzzling his head into the groove of her neck.
Hatori's eyes softened as he watched the couple in a tender embrace. Before the curse had broken, he had his doubts that anyone in the Zodiac, especially Kyo, would ever find true love. The cursed Sohma's had avoided relationships because they didn't want the pity. He couldn't have been more thankful for Tohru and her pure intentions for being able to love Kyo and letting him be able to pursue the relationship he himself would fantasize about having with Professor Shiraki. Without Tohru, all of that would've stayed a dream and never be his new reality.
It also saved him major embarrassment from ever turning into a seahorse if Professor Shiraki had ever tumbled into him, knowing her clumsiness...
The closing of the Hospital Wings' doors had brought him out of his musings, signifying Kyo had taken over watching over Tohru.
"I missed you so much Kyo! Thank you for looking after me, I really hope it's not a bother especially because you have school and Quidditch and your family and everything else," Tohru started sweetly, before she was cut off by a large finger placed on her lips.
"Shut it, dummy. You can't help being sick and I know being on your period doesn't make anything better. In fact, I should be sorry for not fighting Hatori enough to let me in and see you," he consoled. "After all, what kind of boyfriend would I be if I let my girlfriend handle it all herself? Not to mention I really don't need Hanajima or Uotani on my ass again blaming me for not protecting you enough,"
"Come to think of it, what's even wrong with you? All I got was a letter from that damn rabbit saying you were sick and wouldn't be in class for a while." he thought.
Tohru blanched. She was trying to put this off for as long as she could because she truly didn't want to bother Kyo with something like this. She was going to heal soon anyways according to Hatori, right?
"Oh it's nothing-"
"Tohru," he stated sharply as he held her shoulder with his left hand. "What did I just tell you? Don't shut me out damn it, I want- no, I need to help you!"
She whimpered and just as he was about to apologize for being so harsh, she grabbed his hand and brought him to a darker corner of the corridor they were in.
"I passed out a couple nights ago and a fourth-year brought me to Hatori. He did an overall checkup and said I have mild pneumonia, then when he did some blood tests, he said I have iron deficiency and I need to incorporate more red meat and green leafs in my diet. He also told me I needed to stop stressing out and overworking myself. "
Tohru looked up, noticing he had been quiet for quite some time, panicking inside as she saw his complexion pale.
'That's how her father passed away...' he thought to himself, his heart growing heavier with every passing second.
"No, wait! I promise I'm fine, see? I have these iron pills and I have the juice I need to take it with and-"
"Tohru."
"Yes?" she replied meekly.
"I'm sorry," Kyo started, holding up a hand signifying he wasn't done speaking as he saw her lips open again. "This whole time you've been trying to make sure the rest of us have been studying for our N.E.W.T.s', making sure we ate and drank and slept enough, and that our lives were set in straight that you've been completely neglecting yourself? When was the last time you slept a solid eight hours? Ate a proper meal? You've probably been cramming all your studying throughout the night when you should have been asleep!"
"I'm sorry for not noticing sooner and helping you when I should've been." he ended softly.
Her eyes glimmered with unshed tears as she pulled him down by his cloak and tightly wrapped her frail arms around him. She didn't deserve such a doting boyfriend, it's crazy how lucky she was to have someone who paid attention, considering no one else really seemed to notice and assumed it was just her being herself.
"Don't even think about apologizing for something you couldn't control, Kyo Sohma! It's not your fault at all, honestly, it's all my own because sometimes I forget to put myself first. I love you, Yuki, Momiji, Arisa, Saki, and Haru so much that it's kind of hard to not worry you know? Don't worry though, I'm only in love with you!" she confessed cheekily
He rolled his eyes playfully, before choking back a minor sob at how selfless his girlfriend was. And to think, he was complaining just a couple hours ago about how alone and bored he was, how "terrible" his day went. Never once did he think about how Tohru must've been feeling, what with not only having what she confirmed as mild pneumonia, but also a deficiency in iron, which was crucial to her menstruation periods. All three of these combined and not once did she complain!
Kyo unwrapped her from himself, tilting her chin up and placing a soft kiss on her lips, not caring about what he might contract. Her eyes widened as part of her panicked, not wanting to get him sick, while another part wanted to be selfish and just keep him there forever. He enveloped her frame with his arms around her waist, hands clasping at the dip in her back, as he deepened the kiss.
Not wanting to tire her out even more, he let go, staring down at her with pure love and adoration, before confessing.
"Today I was whining about everything, from the weather to class to my family and to not having you. I never even thought to think about how much you've been struggling and keeping it all in. I know I may not be the most appreciative person, but I also know that you always find a way to make me feel thankful for everything I have. Including knowing that I have you by my side.
Tohru sniffed, as she felt a tear roll down her cheek, giving him a watery smile. Kyo placed his large, calloused hand on the side of her face, brushing the drop with his thumb, his insides burning passionately as he felt the softness of his girlfriend's own hand keep his in place while she looked up and whispered,
"We're both allowed to be selfish sometimes, no?"
