Bang Bang

I awoke to the sound of knocking.

That's a lie. I awoke from my own guilt, the guilt of still being alive while others were dead.

But I knew that staying locked up in my room wouldn't solve anything. I would try to keep my promise to that woman and protect her daughters.

Even if it was at the expense of my life.

I opened the door to find Goodwitch there. Her stern expression told me that she had been knocking for quite a while.

"Mr. Payne, I see you finally got up."

"Sorry, had a rough night." It was the truth, but I think she wouldn't believe me either way.

"Well it is time to get going, all the students are already on their way to the academy so you best be prepared."

A simple nod was all it took to be on our way.

As I walked with Glynda, I felt like I was the center of attention of many passerby's. Whether this is the first time seeing a new person in the city or it meant something was about to happen.

"When we get there it should be just in time for the assembly, from there..."

She never got to finish as I pushed her down from getting shot at. Thankfully, I was given my pistol and back from the police station while they kept the uzi.

I shot three guys in the head but more came out from around corner so me and Goodwitch got up and ran into a café.

She set up a barricade with tables and chairs at the door but we knew it wasn't a long term solution to the thugs after us.

"Why are they after us?" I had to ask, even though I knew the answer to that question.

"If I had to guess, Torchwick must have put a hit out for us after getting involved." Glynda's answer hit right on the mark, and I can only hope that there isn't a hit on Ruby.

"Do you think they put a hit on Ruby?"-Max

"Possibly not, she may have gotten involved but he possibly doesn't see her as a big threat. But with me being a Huntress and you killing some of his guys, it puts us in their sights."-Glynda

The door in the back banged opened and guys came flooding in. Glynda brandished her riding crop and use her powers to launch objects at three of the guys knocking them out.

I rolled out of the way of a few shots and shot one guy through the head and another in the chest. I picked up an AK off the ground and shot 4 guys all over before ducking behind cover to reload.

The front entrance got knocked through and a man with a mini gun started winding up. I saw that Glynda was still fight off a few guys on her side and saw that she was wide open, so I got on the table and jumped over to her while firing all the rounds of my AK into the guy.

It worked as his shot got thrown off and hit the ceiling before collapsing dead. Glynda must of heard because she turned around to see the damage that I caused.

The guy with the big gun must have been their leader, because after that they began to retreat from this place.

After everything settled down, I realized that the owner isn't going to like the redecorating we did, so we left.

The police arrived later but by then we were long gone, with the only thing left there being the AK I borrowed from these fine men.

We sat in a strange hovercraft heading to the academy with silence being the only thing keeping conversation.

"You didn't have to kill them."

It was a statement that she said but even she knew that I didn't want to either nor that they weren't asking for it.

"I would rather not take lives but when put in a situation that asks for it, I'll be willing to go through it."

Whether or not she liked that answer, she never said but I knew she understood what I was saying.

It doesn't justify it but I knew that taking a life isn't easy, and I would rather not have to, but like everything in my life these type of things never change.

As the academy came into sight, I could only hope that my stay here wouldn't lead to its destruction.

Hope that this chapter was enjoyable and filled that action itch for some.

The next few chapters will be set at Beacon so there may not be action but we'll
