Alright, this is a very special story here today.
I wrote this baby as a surprise birthday gift for a friend of mine who goes by Thomaslover88. He has an account here, but he's most active on Deviantart. He made a few gifts for me in the past and I figured that I should get him something every now and again. This is based on a little idea he came up with for an RP scenario and I decided to use a slightly altered version of it to make this story for him.
Happy birthday, Thomas! ;)
A Magic-cidental discovery
Luz was exhausted.
Okay, Exhausted was a bit of an overstatement, but it wasn't far off. She had spent the past two hours sketching and experimenting with magic glyphs, trying to find new possible combinations with them. Unfortunately, as she sat in the middle of The Owl House's living room, the results of all her trials provided either nothing to show, or resulted in catastrophic messes that made her prefer nothing. "Come on, Luz. There has to be something here that you're missing." She groaned to herself as she picked up a couple slips of paper. Just then, she heard a knock on the door.
"Luz? Are you in there?" Luz's eyes widened as she recognized the voice as that of her girlfriend, Amity Blight.
"Oh, shoot. Don't worry, I'm coming!" Luz got up off the floor and ran over to answer the door. She grabbed the handle and opened it to greet Amity. When she did, Luz saw the purple haired witch seemed to have a mixture of both concern and frustration.
"Luz, what happened? I thought we were going to have a date at the library together." Amity scolded. She was about to continue but then looked over Luz's shoulder and saw the inside of the living room with her own eyes. Amity was then at a loss for words seeing just how much everything was in disarray. Glyph papers were scattered all across the floor and the furniture, there were a few stray plant vines and ice crystals here and there. And to top it all off one of the window curtains looked partially burned. The fire that was responsible for it only being extinguished recently as indicated by the small trail of smoke still lingering from the black burn marks. Luz was about to speak, but then Hooty stretched out from his place in the door-way and chimed in rather rudely.
"Hey if you two are going to hang out here instead of the library, can I join in?" He asked. Luz and Amity simply ignored him as Amity walked in and Luz closed the door behind her, leaving Hooty alone. "Okay, hoot hoot. I guess I can have fun by myself. HEY LOOK, AN ANT HILL!" As Hooty started screaming, most likely to devour the colony of ants, Luz let out a sigh and began talking to her girlfriend.
"I'm sorry I forgot our date, Amity. It's just that I've been kind of stressed lately." Luz walked over to her hoard of glyphs. "I don't know why, but I feel like there's something horrible that's going to happen. Something that I need to be prepared for. I've been trying to see if I can do anything new with glyphs to be prepared, but I haven't. And now it looks like I got a bit too distracted. My last talk I managed to have with my mom didn't help much either." Hearing Luz's confession, Amity couldn't help but adopt a soft and sympathetic smile. She reached out her hand and placed it on Luz's shoulder.
"Luz, you don't have anything to worry about. You're smart, courageous, and resourceful. No matter what life throws at us, I know you'll pull through." She reassured. Luz looked at her girlfriend's golden eyes and smiled.
"Thanks Amity, that means a lot."
"Besides, I'm sure you've come up with something useful if you've been running yourself ragged like this." Amity reasoned before bending down and picking up one of the glyph papers. Drawn on its center was a light glyph with two small ice glyphs connected to the top. "How about this one?" Amity asked. Luz let out a sigh and shook her head in response while gently taking the paper from Amity.
"I already tried this one. It's nothing really special." To prove her point, Luz pressed down on the paper and activated the glyphs. The symbols lit up and the paper morphed into two small orbs of light. One was yellow in color while the other was light blue. The two swirled around each other before mixing together and making one single light that showed both colors in a spinning spiral. From this spiral, a gentle cooling breeze flew into Amity's face. "All this combo does is make some kind of fan." She explained. Unbeknownst to Luz, Amity found herself oddly transfixed on the spell. Gazing deeply into the spirals center and embracing the soft winds.
"It's really pretty." Amity said calmly.
"Yeah, I guess it is pretty with how the colors spin around and around like that." Luz figured. She took a closer look at it and chuckled. "Hey you know what? It's actually kind of soothing now that I take another look at it. Like a stress ball for the eyes that just melts all my cares away." Amity nodded gingerly in agreement as Luz kept talking. The human's words started to drown her thoughts as everything around her started to become blurred by the spiral. "And that cold wind it gives off is so relaxing too. So crisp and refreshing the way it just cools your skin and gets rid of any worries." Luz reasoned as Amity's eyes started to physically change color. Her pupils glazed over with an icy blue amidst her golden irises.
"Relaxing..."
"Yeah! I mean, if I set this up on a hot day for myself. I'd probably fall asleep just like 'that'!" To emphasize her point, Luz ended her statement with a snap of her fingers. The gesture causing Amity to fall into a deep slumber while still standing. Her eyes shutting tight and her head drooping forward. "All that in mind, maybe there is still a way I can use this in a serious situation. Like, maybe I make a really big win to create an icy wind storm. What do you think, Amity?" Luz asked as she turned her attention to her girlfriend. Unfortunately, she got no response as Amity was now in a deep and and peaceful sleep. The fact she was asleep standing up caused Luz to grow concerned. "Amity? Are you okay? Can you hear me right now?"
To Luz's surprise, Amity answered in a very drowsy tone without opening her eyes or moving their head. "Yes, I hear you my mistress." She droned.
"M-mistress? Why did you call me that?" Luz asked. She then took another glance at the light spiral she created and narrowed her eyes. "Wait a second..." Luz waved her hand through the spiral multiple times, causing it to disappear. Once it was gone, Luz stroked her chin and stared at Amity curiously. "Amity. Do me a favor and stand on one leg." Luz instructed. Amity then wordlessly obeys the command and lifts one of her legs off the ground. Flawlessly maintaining her balance as she does so. Luz nodded at Amity's response. "Okay. Now say the first ten letters of the alphabet." She commanded
"A. B. C. D. E. F. G. H. I. J." Amity then stopped reciting letters without going over the instructed number. The calm obedience of the command made Luz even more curious. She started to put the pieces together, but needed to make extra sure with one last test.
"Good. Now, I'm going to snap my fingers in a second. When I do, you're going to wake up thinking your a happy and playful dog. Got it?" Luz instructed. Amity calmly nodded once more. Still somewhat unsure of what would happen, Luz slowly raised one of her hands up and prepared to snap her fingers. Then, she shut her eyes tightly before snapping her fingers. The snap came and went, leaving The Owl House in silence for a moment.
"RUFF! RUFF!" Luz opened one of her eyes and looked at Amity. However, Luz didn't see her girlfriend standing up with her eyes closed. Instead, Amity was sitting on the floor with both feet and hands touching the ground. Her eyes, which still had that change in color to the pupils, were wide and full of innocence as she panted excitedly and awaited any sort of response from Luz. Luz opened her other eye and slowly relaxed. She slowly reached out her hand towards Amity's head.
"Uh... Good girl?" Luz then found herself cut off as Amity leaped forward and knocked Luz to the ground and began licking her face. The human witch in training couldn't help but giggle from the sensation. "Pff, ha ha ha. Amity, stop! Down girl." She laughed before Amity finally relented and sat in front of Luz. As Luz dusted herself off, she reached into her pocket and pulled out a small piece of candy. "You want a treat, Amity? Do ya?" She asked in a very playful manner. Amity responded with another excited bark, prompting Luz to feed her girlfriend the candy. As Amity chewed on it, Luz couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder and accomplishment as she realized what had happened.
"Dios Mio, that glyph combo. It wasn't some ice wind fan. It was a hypnosis spell! Ha ha!" Luz cheered and jumped in excitement before turning her attention back to Amity. The dog minded witch gave Luz a confused look as she tilted her head to the side. As she did, Luz's enthusiasm gave way to a small amount of guilt. "And I, kind of, sort of, totally just used it on my girlfriend by accident. Oops. Um. Amity, sleep!" With one hand rubbing the back of her head, Luz used the other one to snap her fingers again. Reacting to the authoritative gesture instantly, Amity closed her eyes and entered a blank sleep once again. Seeing her girlfriend deep in their trance, Luz took a deep breath. "Okay, accidents happen Luz. Just wake her up, apologize, and move forward." Luz cleared her throat and was about to guide Amity out of her hypnotized state of mind.
But then, she hesitated.
"Then again, this IS kind of a fun opportunity." Luz reasoned. "I mean, I've seen a few cases of this sort of thing on TV and in pop culture. But never in real life. And I don't think Amity will mind too much since Eda and King are out of the house, leaving the two of us." Luz pondered the matter a little while longer, weighing the situation on a libra scale in her mind before biting her lip and groaning in defeat. "Alright, just a few more suggestions for fun. Then wake her up as her usual self." Luz declared to herself firmly. Luz then looked at Amity and started to think of possible suggestions for her to act out. Suddenly, an idea popped into Luz's head and she smiled.
"Okay Amity, when I snap my fingers, you're going to wake up as your usual self again. But there is going to be one teensy little catch. You won't be able to remember your name. It will be right on the tip of your tongue, but you just can't fully remember it. Understand?" Luz's words sunk deeply into Amity's subconscious and she nodded in confirmation. Satisfied, Luz snapped her fingers and Amity woke up blinking rapidly a few times. "Oh good, you're awake." Luz said while feigning ignorance over the situation. Amity rubbed her head with one of her hands and slowly stood back up.
"Luz? Ugh, what happened? Why does my head feel so cold?" She asked. Luz rolled her eyes, a knowing smile on her face.
"That might have been from the magic spell I was showing you. It kind of knocked you out for a bit." The human half-lied. "By the way, I was wondering something. Do you spell your name with two 'M's or one?" She asked. Amity couldn't help but giggle a little bit in response to the question.
"Come on, Luz. You know my name well enough to know how to spell it. It's..." Amity started to trail off as she drew a blank. She scratched the side of her head in contemplation as she tried to remember who she was. "Wait, what IS my name?" She asked herself. It was as if her entire first and last name was completely wiped from her mind. "I know it started with an 'A'. And based on what you said, it has at least one 'M'." Amity reasoned to Luz. "Was my name 'Amy'? No, that wasn't it. Maybe it was 'Amanda'? Grrr. Come on, think!" Amity groaned as she struck her forehead with her palm to try and jog her memory. Luz felt a laugh sneaking out of her as she raised her hand to cover her mouth.
"Hee heh. Amity, sleep!" Luz then used her free hand to snap her fingers and send Amity back into a trance. "Okay, okay, how about we move things along? I got another idea in mind already." Luz cleared her throat and began to give Amity another suggestion. "Amity, when I wake you up again, you will remember your name again. But this time, you're feet are going to be stuck to the ground and you won't be able to move. No matter how hard you try, you won't be able to move from this spot. Understand?"
"Yes, Mistress." Amity responded. Luz chuckled as she snapped her fingers and woke Amity up again. The young witch moaned as her thoughts returned to her. Specifically the knowledge of her own name. "Oh, that's right! My name is Amity. Amity Blight!" Amity exclaimed happily. She put a finger to her chin in contemplation. "How did I forget something so obvious?" Luz waved off Amity's question and took her hand.
"Eh, maybe just a side effect of the magic. Come on, we have a date at the library remember?" She reminded. Amity nodded and smiled.
"Yeah, we do. Let's get going." Amity was about to follow Luz out of the house, but found herself subconsciously anchored to the floor. "What the heck?"
"Something wrong, Amity?"
"Yes something is wrong. I'm stuck!" Amity exclaimed. She then bent down and started trying to forcefully pull her feet off of the floorboards. Her efforts resulted in failure as she was unable to get the soles of her shoes even an inch off the ground. Amity started to grow more panicked as her attempts continued to get her nowhere. "Luz, I could use a little help here." Amity pleaded desperately. Luz nodded and got down on her knees to help free Amity. Luz pulled at one of Amity's feet alongside her, putting in all of her strength to free. Sweat started to drip down Luz's forehead as she put more effort in and practically started to strain herself. Despite the duo's combined efforts, Amity was still unable to move from her current spot.
"*huff* Whew. I was able to lift your whole body when your sprained your ankle. How is it so hard to lift your foot?" She asked curiously before turning her head away from Amity. "I wonder if she's subconsciously fighting against me to stay put." She mused quietly, making sure Amity couldn't here her. However, it didn't take Luz long for Luz to lose her train of thought as she heard the soft sound of whimpering. She looked back to Amity and saw she was on the verge of tears. "Amity? It's okay, I'll find a way to fix whatever happened here." She reassured. However, her words did nothing to help Amity's emotional state.
"Luz, am I going to die?" She asked suddenly. Luz's eyes nearly bulged out of her head when she heard the question.
"What!? No, I would never let that happen. What makes you think you're going to die?" Luz asked out of concern and shock.
"I can't be moved no matter how much we try. My head still feels so cold and I keep blacking out and forgetting. I'm starting to get nervous about what that glyph you made actually does. What if it's freezing or petrifying me? I'm just so scared right now, I feel like I can't breath." Amity started to break into full on sobbing with tears running down her face, This caused Luz to look down in shame. The human took a deep breath in before exhaling.
"Amity, sleep." She commanded in a remorseful tone with a snap of her fingers. Amity responded to the command and drifted deeply into a blank and suggestible state. Once Amity was asleep, Luz groaned and buried her face into her hands. She didn't look up from the darkness of her palms for a good ten seconds. When she finally did, she walked in front of Amity and saw a few stray tears still on the pale skin of their cheeks. Luz cupped one of Amity's cheeks in her hand and wiped the tear away with her thumb. "Amity, I want you to listen to what I have to say very carefully." She began speaking in a gentle and caring tone. "I'm so sorry for making you feel so afraid. I was just trying to have fun, and since it was the only the two of us, I thought it wouldn't be a big deal. But I guess I didn't think things through." Luz apologized. "I want you to know that I love you so much. And that I would never try to hurt you for my own amusement. You mean the world to me."
Luz then wrapped Amity in a gentle hug. Although the witch couldn't return it due to being deep in her hypnotized state, Amity still heard Luz's words and a soft smile crossed her face. "Now, I do have one more suggestion I had in mind. But I promise it's nothing like the last two." Luz began. "When I snap my fingers again, you're going to think you're performing at a dance recital. You're going to feel very confident and have no worries or fear whatsoever. And you can perform any kind of dance you want. Whatever you feel comfortable with. Understand?" Amity simply nodded while still smiling. Luz returned the smile and kissed Amity on the cheek before snapping her fingers and waking them up.
Once awakened, Amity no longer saw herself in The Owl House. In her eyes, it looked like she was on a large stage with spotlights shining down on her. The audience filled with people incredibly excited to see her perform. Amity gave the imaginary crowd a bow, then waved her arm around her and created a pink spell circle. The act left Luz a little confused. "Wait, what is she-?" Before Luz could finish, some purple Abomination goo started to float out of Amity's pocket and above her head. Amit then gripped the blob in her hand and it started to stretch and change shape. The half of it that Amity held on to solidified into a tiny cylinder. The half that Amity wasn't holding stretched out even farther and flattened out, turning the whole mass of sludge into the shape of a dancer's ribbon.
"Ohhhh..." Luz was silent as Amity began to take a few steps forward, twirling the purple sludge ribbon in circles beside her and making a small twister stream. After getting enough momentum with the ribbon, Amity then did a few spins while holding it above her head, causing the prop to swirl around her for a bit until she suddenly stopped and whipped the ribbon to her side. Amity then did a few graceful leaps across the room while twirling the ribbon into a couple different shapes. First it took the outline of a heart, then a diamond, and then she somehow made it spell out her own name in cursive writing.
As Amity danced more and more, Luz couldn't help but become completely enthralled and her cheeks started to blush into a faint red hue. "Wow, I never knew Amity was such an amazing dancer." She said in wonder. Then, as Amity's performance neared its conclusion, the young witch started to spin around once again. The hand holding the ribbon began pointing in front of her, while her free hand pointed behind and started to draw out another spell circle. As Amity finished the circle, she raised both her hands into the air while still spinning, tossing the ribbon up and making the spell circle converge into it. Amity then came to a sudden stop, and at the same time, the abomination ribbon turned into a ball before bursting in a sparkling flash of light. Amity then took another bow as the pink and purple sparkled flew back into her pocket.
Luz couldn't find the words to properly describe the feelings she had. Instead, she just started clapping and cheering excitedly. This in turn carried over into Amity's fantasy, where the crowd was applauding and cheering for her. Eventually, Luz settled down and took a deep breath before pulling Amity back into a trance. "Amity, sleep!" With the following finger snap, Amity's eyes shut once again. "Okay, I've had my fun. Now, I'm wrapping this up." Luz sighed as she prepared to set Amity's mind free. "Amity, when I snap my fingers and you wake up, you will no longer be hypnotized at all. You'll feel super refreshed, relaxed, and have full memory of everything that happened."
"Yes Mistress." Luz then took a deep breath and snapped her fingers. Amity then woke up and blinked her eyes a few times. Her eyes returning to their natural color as she did so.
"Amity? You okay?" Luz asked. Amity rubbed her head as she tried to get her thoughts straight.
"Y-yeah. I think so..." Amity flinched as she realized what happened. "Wait, I remember what happened. Luz, was I really hypnotized just now?" She asked. Luz looked away and nervously laughed.
"Yeah... You totally were. I swear I didn't know that was what the spell did. And I'm sorry a few of those suggestions went the way they did. Can you ever forgive me?" Luz pleaded. Amity and looked down and started to blush before letting out a sigh.
"The amnesia and the sticking to the floor weren't cool." She scolded. "But those other two suggestions were pretty fun. Not to mention the whole trance stuff was pretty relaxing." She admitted. Luz looked at Amity with a hopeful smile.
"Is that a 'yes'?" She asked. Amity giggled in response.
"How about this? You let me try and hypnotize you sometime and you get me some ice cream, and this is all water under the bridge." Amity bargained. Luz couldn't help but laugh in response before hugging Amity again.
"Deal." The two then silently embraced each other before suddenly hearing a familiar voice cry out.
"YOO HOOT! I saw the whole thing. Every last bit of it was hillarious! And the dance was beauty incarnate, Amity. Where did you learn to do that?"
"HOOTY!"
Well, now that that's done, I'm think going to finally get back to work on "The life we built" next.
Stay tuned!
