Hiccup was stuck on Berserker Island with his father because Stoick wanted to make sure Heather was ok. Which I wanted too, but I just really wanted to get off of this place and avoid any kid that wasn't Heather at all costs. Luckily Dagur was still grounded to his house for the rest of the day, though Odin knows how long he would actually stay there.
Skipping around the edges of town Hiccup noticed a peculiar building, debating whether or not it was worth it to knock at the strange building. Eventually his curiosity won over as he knocked at the door, it creaked open slowly as Hiccup hesitated going in.
Stepping through the door and closing it he realized it was a workshop, with tons of small drawings and closer at the maps he realized they were dragons, this must have been the place Heather was talking about… which means this was Oswalds place.
He started towards the door not wanting to get caught when something caught his eye, a picture of a Deadly Nadder, he wondered if Oswald would notice if one piece of paper went missing… probably.
Sitting down deciding that Oswald was probably busy right now he pulled out his notebook and began copying the picture, it was strange… the Nadder seemed almost happy with a smile curving on its lips, he guessed it was creative liberties, or maybe he had caught one on a particularly happy day? Afterall dragons were still animals, and animals still had emotions, though it was unlikely that the Nadder would stay happy when he caught Oswald, he couldn't have stayed unnoticed that long unless it was sleeping and even that was rare.
After he was done with the Nadder he moved onto the Zippleback and then to the Monstrous Nightmare, the hardest dragon to draw, not because it was terribly hard to draw but more because it was impossible to even sketch before it set you on fire, the hardest to actually draw would be the Zippleback because of its unique shape. He didn't know how much time had passed but when he had started the Zippleback drawing it had been almost sunset and now it was well into the night, judging by the fact his father was not blasting everyone's eardrums off he didn't think his father noticed he was gone. Other than the Gronckle which he already had plenty of pictures of he was done with all the basic dragon species, and honestly his arm was starting to work so he decided to just examine the drawings.
After a while Hiccup grew bored when he saw a troll drawing holding a left sock. "I KNEW THEY WERE REAL!" he said a little too loud which alerted Oswald that a child was in his workshop. Walking in he noticed a small 7 year old holding his troll drawing.
"Trolls?" he asked as Hiccup nervously nodded his head wondering if he was going to get in trouble.
"Gobber says they steal his socks, but only his left ones,"
"That's a strange thing, because they only steal my right ones,"
"Then who's sock is he holding?"
"Dagur's," blurted out Oswald.
( "What?" asked Dagur.
"What that's what he said?" said Hiccup, "I don't believe in trolls anymore though,")
"I bet Dagur hammered him into the ground,"
"Your not wrong,"
"He hammers Everyone into the ground," continued Hiccup-
( "Not true!" protested Dagur breaking into the story, "Just mostly everyone!" )
"Except for Astrid, he tried to set her on fire-" started Hiccup before breaking off realizing he had said too much but Oswald was intrigued.
"Dagur did what!?"
"Nothing!" said Hiccup frantically, turning around and picking up a drawing praying to Odin it was not a normal dragon, "What's this?"
Instantly distracted as the drawing Hiccup happened to pick up was a Stone Wing, he was still thinking of a new name, he remembered seeing one while looking for the Dragons Nest in the fog it was like nothing he had seen before. He could get the general shape, a strong muscular dragon with stone-like skin, with wings sort of like a Nadders or Monstrous Nightmares when folded and short spikes on its head and back . It was one of the only ones colored revealing the blotches on its back were green and more like moss, Oswald was always pleased on how this came out, and hoped to one day see more to get a more accurate picture.
"A Stone Wing," said Oswald, causing Hiccup to scrunch his face up thinking.
"I've never heard of a Stone Dragon," he said skeptically causing Oswald to laugh.
"It's the newest species of dragon to date, rarely seen and probably have about the same numbers of Night Furies,"
"You saw it?"
"How do you think I got this picture?"
"Wow!" exclaimed Hiccup in wonder, "Did you hunt down the dragon?"
"It was flying too high and it was hard to see in the mists, but it had the most powerful wings that sent out a giant wave of wind that tore our boat to pieces when we tried to shoot at it leaving our boat stranded, luckily the other boats sent out found us," admitted Oswald, still slightly smiling at the memory, minus the falling into the freezing cold oceans.
( "Wait I got it! Sentinel!" said Snotlout who had been trying to think of the dragon causing everyone to slap their foreheads in exapersperation, "What? Are you guys embarrassed that I guessed it before you?"
"Congrats King of Fast Thinking," said Astrid sarcastically yet Snotlout didn't seem to notice.
"Thank you Astrid, I have always thought- Wait- HEY!" he said glaring at her. )
"Really? Wing Blasts!?" said Hiccup, completely infatuated by the news.
( "Hiccup and Oswald nerd out part one," said Snotlout dramatically, "Now we just need Fishlegs," )
"This one shoots acid," said Oswald gesturing towards another strange looking dragon with horns that Hiccup thought resembled vines, "And can camouflage itself into its environment!"
"Awesome!" said Hiccup darting around his nervousness forgotten as he was learning all about the dragon species even though by today's standards at least half of the information was incomplete or incorrect.
( "Knew part two was coming," said Snotlout almost proudly, "Hiccup and Oswald nerd out part two!" )
Soon it was late at night as Oswald and a very excited 7 year old were walking towards the guest house when they found Stoick looking for his son.
"Dad, did you know that a Whispering Death can bore through anything?" asked Hiccup, skipping towards his Dad who was so relieved to find him unharmed sounding very much like Fishlegs in the moment.
( "Yep, who needs Fishlegs? Hiccup is Fishlegs," laughed Snotlout before mocking Hiccup and Fishlegs, "Did you know that Razorwhips have poisonous tears? I have no backbone! Let's go on a crazy dangerous adventure with only one idea that involves an invention that 90 percent of the time almost gets us killed!"
"Snotlout, Shut Up!" yelled everyone causing him to grumble in his seat. )
"Then we all went to sleep and then I returned to Berk, when Snotlout would not stop bullying me about the Berserker Island fiasco," started Hiccup before finding a way imitate Snotlout, "Hiccup, I can't believe you set Another village on fire, at this point your going to become more destructive than the dragons and the twins combined!"
"Well I wasn't wrong!" defended Snotlout, "You destroyed the village every other week without even trying! And I do Not sound like that!"
"Snotlout Snotlout, Oi Oi Oi!" yelled Hiccup still imitating Snotlout, "I am the best viking in the village, and the bravest, and the strongest, and the the most amazingist! I am also the most humble viking in the world!"
"I do not say that! And I am Humble! Also you do terrible impressions!"
"My Stoick the Vast one is good," causing everyone to snort in laughter.
"Well at least Better than Snotlout's," said Hiccup under his breath.
"I heard that!" grumbled Snotlout.
