Inspiration: Attack on Titan
"Are you ready for the next scene?" Character asked the audience.
"Man, of course! The last scene was absolutely great" Sun said as he raised his arms in the air excitedly.
"Certainly the scenes are... interesting" Ozpin said as he took a sip of his wonderful coffee.
"The fighting scenes are worth it" Mercury commented "I hope this scene doesn't disappoint me", Emerald wasn't going to say it out loud, but the scenes that have happened so far certainly make you can't look away from the screen.
Cinder certainly didn't like her counterpart dying, but she has to admit that the last part of the monster called HATE surprised her quite a bit, too bad she didn't want to know what happened next, but she just had to have a little patience.
"Whooo... let's get started!" Nora screamed jumping out of her doing, Ren had to sigh and then calm her down so she wouldn't ruin the seats.
Thus, the majority of the public expressed their opinion, anxiously waiting until the new scene that will be transmitted on the screen begins.
Slowly, the sound of horse hooves thundering across the grounds rose in volume during the early morning.
"Be on guard for Titans hiding in the shadows!" Ozpin advised and threw out an arm to the side. "Our operation begins now! All troops, switch to the 3D gear!"
The soldiers stood on their horses and began to take to the skies. Wires pulled the soldiers, taking them over the Wall.
"Looks like it's another scene from the world of the titans" James commented.
"I wonder what's going to happen" Neptune commented curiously.
"If the last time we watched one of these scenes it was a bit strange," Jaune said, still not comfortable knowing what his counterpart had done. Jaune could feel someone put a hand on his. He looked in the direction of the hand and was met by a smiling Pyrrha, so he returned the gesture.
"There are two gates we must seal — the inner and outer," Ozpin's voice narrated. An animated drawing of Wall Maria and its territory appeared. Two red circles appeared one on the inner gate and one on the outer. "With that, Shiganshina will be isolated. We'll exterminate any Titans left inside." Red Xs crossed out the Titan drawings.
Balancing on his horse, Qrow pulled out his swords. "If the enemy knows our plan, they'll go straight after Ruby, but..." Qrow and the soldiers behind him shot into the air. "We'll have hoods covering the faces of all hundred of our soldiers."
Ozpin landed in a crouch atop the Wall. Behind the commander, over a dozen soldiers appeared. "By the time they find out who Ruby is, we'll have the outer gate plugged."
"It's Uncle Qrow" Ruby commented excitedly.
"The first time Qrow came out in this kind of scene it was quite impressive" Taiyang commented with a smile.
"Man, I remember his speed was incredible" Sun commented energetically.
"Exactly," Oscar said.
Most admitted that it was true, as some of the audience had not seen it at the scene, so they said nothing.
Ruby scaled the Wall and stood, looking out into the distance of her former home. Houses appeared in disrepair, and abandoned toys littered the street. Her hands shook. Oscar and Blake also stared when they landed on the Wall.
"Don't stop!" Qrow told them as he ran past the trio. "Head for the outer gate!"
"Roger!" Ruby took off after him, Oscar and Blake following.
Oscar stopped, noticing blackened residue near the edge of the Wall. This is... the remains of a fire? He raised his arm to grab Ozpin's attention. They're here... and close! Neptune and Jaune!
"I wonder how they will cover the destroyed door" Ren commented.
"Oh, oh... maybe it will transform into a titan and use the body to cover it up" Nora commented.
"It's a good idea," James said while rubbing his chin "But let's remember that once it leaves the back of the neck, the body disintegrates"
"Maybe they have a way to prevent their disintegration" Glynda opined.
Soldiers flew alongside the Wall, toward the outer gate. My house is right around there. Ruby thought, eyeing a neighborhood near the water. That's where... we left everything behind.
Summer, Blake, Ruby, and Taiyang sat at the dining table.
"It's a bit strange to see my counterpart as part of another family" Blake commented.
Summer, Taiyang, and Qrow chuckled.
Ruby looked back to see Blake flying, gaze focused ahead. It's okay, I thought, I'll take it all back!
At Wall Maria's outer gate, soldiers peered through spyglasses, acting as lookouts. "This is all too strange... Not a single Titan insight?" Penny stood next to Qrow.
Two soldiers were stationed at the base of the hole outside Wall Maria.
"What if it's a trap?" James looked very suspicious that the enemy was not in sight "What do you think Penny, Winter?"
"It may be a possibility," Winter said
"I have calculated the probability that it is a cheat and the results have told me that it may be 85% sir," Penny said mechanically with joy.
"Wait... how can you know there can be an 85% chance?" Vernal asked narrowing his eyes.
"She's good at math" James replied to Penny seeing how nervous he had gotten.
"But we have to keep going," Qrow said to Penny.
"Yeah, there's no reason to call it off." Penny searched through her jacket's inner pocket and pointed the flare gun at the sky, firing off a green smoke round. Trails of green smoke began to float up around the Wall.
I can do this! Ruby flew determinedly toward the smoke. No... We can do this! Blake, Oscar, then Penny, Qrow, and Ozpin, then Sun, Nora, and Ren, along with all the other soldiers, had their eyes on Ruby. Because we've all been special since the day we were born! We are free!
"Come on Ruby you can do it little sister" Yang encouraged making Ruby blush with embarrassment.
Ruby hovered far above Wall Maria. Biting her hand, she transformed. Lightning erupted with a resounding boom, shaking the ground.
Neptune's face appeared, peering through a few holes with light pouring through.
Jaune was surrounded mostly by darkness and narrowed his eyes at the orange light flashing before him.
"So we are hiding?" Jaune asked curious "The question is, where?"
"Maybe in one of the houses downstairs" Neptune replied.
"I'm a little nervous about what's coming," Oscar said.
Blake, Oscar, and the others watched, bracing at the waves caused by Ruby's transformation. Stiffening and cracking sounds accompanied the Rogue Titan before his skin began to harden, taking on a blue tint.
"He was right then," Glynda commented.
"Right" Ozpin nodded as he took a sip of his coffee before continuing "Apparently they had a way to keep the body from disintegrating"
"Amazing" Ruby, Nora, and Oscar commented at the same time.
With a cry, Ruby yanked himself out. The edge of his field of vision began to darken and a shape began to fall toward him.
Blake cradled her neck, helping him to her feet and taking him up. Behind them, large veins of bluish crystal covered the hole where Wall Maria's outer gate had once stood.
The Good Side celebrated the success of being able to cover the wall.
"It's not that bad" Mercury muttered to himself rolling his eyes, Emerald had to agree reluctantly.
"Don't let your guard down! Keep on the lookout!" Penny ordered while Qrow kept an eye out.
"Roger!"
"Ruby!" Penny ran over to them as the two landed on the Wall.
"How's your 3D gear?" Blake asked him.
"It's fine." Ruby inspected the machinery. "But I did manage to lose my cloak." Blake placed hers around her shoulders. "Thanks." She got to her feet, adjusting the cloak and pulling up the hood.
Blake grunted a small nod.
"The hole ?!" Qrow called down to the soldiers below.
"Success!" A man on the inside of the outer gate confirmed, shooting off a green flare.
"So that's it?" Qrow asked "It's too easy for my liking"
"You're right something's not right" Summer commented in agreement.
"Even the enemy is hiding" James reminded them "They may have covered the wall, but they haven't won yet"
That reassured most of them. They may have succeeded in one part, but the mission was not over yet. There was still plenty of time for things to go terribly wrong.
"It's plugged alright!" A soldier outside the gate verified as well, also firing a green flare.
"We did it!" Penny smiled. "Ruby, you okay?"
"No problems here. I'm ready like we trained."
"I feel that something is about to happen Neo" Roman commented to his partner in crime causing them to nod.
"We'll head for the inner gate! While we're on the move, remember to hide your faces!" Penny and the other soldiers began to run.
"I really plugged the hole?" Ruby spoke out loud. "And that easily ...?"
"You did it," Blake confirmed. "Believe in your own power."
"The hole from then ..."
Young Ruby and her friends watched as the Colossal Titan kicked a hole into the Wall, the resulting force ripping apart homes. The image was replaced by the hardened body of the Rogue Titan.
"One less task on the list" Weiss commented "It would only be necessary to find the counterpart of Neptune and Jaune"
Many were excited about what might come next.
"Not yet!" Qrow's voice pulled Ruby out of her head. "No matter how much you plug it, they'll break the Wall as long as they live. Until we kill Jaune, Neptune, and any other enemies, the operation to retake Wall Maria won't end."
"Of course... I know that!"
"Exactly what I said" Weiss gestured with his hand.
Jaune and Neptune got a chill down their backs.
"The outer gate was a success," Russel commented, standing with Ozpin at Wall Maria's inner gate, watching the twin green smoke trails rise from where the outer gate used to be. "Still, it's odd... There's no attack coming. On the contrary, we've not seen a single Titan so far. Are they not prepared for our sudden assault?"
"We can only hope, but... Considering what Pine discovered..."
"Hmm?" Russel and the commander looked to Oscar.
"I looked into it. I'm pretty sure someone was camping," Oscar reported, crouching before them. "The pot was cold and lights were scattered on the ground."
At the base of the Wall, Oscar was on the ground checking discarded items. "They were drinking something like black tea." He sniffed the three mugs in his hands. Smells good... What is this drink?
"Wait they don't know what the coffee is," Sun said incredulously.
"Well considering the time he's in, it could be expected," Ozpin said while taking a sip of his coffee ... "That's a sin ... Sin! " Ozpin thought internally.
Back on the Wall, Oscar stood and said, "Also, there were three cups with drops of black liquid in it. At the very least, there were three people atop the Wall."
"Th-Three, you say ?!" Russel straightened.
"Was the metal pot completely cool?" Ozpin asked calmly.
"And it is."
"I find that odd."
Armin brought up his hand to his chin. "Agreed."
"Th-The pot?" Russel asked, lost.
"We charged here at full speed using horses and 3D gear," Ozpin started to explain. "Had they noticed our approach by sound or by sight, they'd have two minutes to react. A pot in use wouldn't cool in just two minutes. They had to have known we were coming for five minutes or more," he said. "Meaning they've had plenty of time to prepare for us."
"But... how?"
"Th-There must be a scout in addition to the three on the Wall ..." Oscar said. "No, we have to assume there're many more enemies in hiding."
"So that means there are more than two people" James deduced.
"I just hope they didn't lead an army" Pyrrha commented nervously.
"I doubt it, they would have realized if that had happened" Ren commented calmly
"But we don't even know exactly how many people are on the side of Jaune's or Neptune's counterparts," Blake commented.
"I still wonder why my counterpart did what he did," Neptune said to himself.
"For now," Ozpin continued, "locating the enemy is our priority. Pine, with that brain of yours, you've saved us from disaster countless times. Right now is one of those times we need you."
Oscar didn't seem too confident.
Oscar gulped, he could feel the pressure they were giving his counterpart, it made him nervous
"Take as many soldiers as needed." Ozpin waved over a group of soldiers. "Find out if the enemies are hiding near the inner gate or not. As of now, you obey Oscar Pine's commands," he told the group while the teen looked at him, unsure. "Continue the search!"
Oscar stared nervously at the stern faces of the men and women before him.
"R-Roger!" The group said in unison to the commander's order.
"We searched the Wall thoroughly!" One male soldier said loudly to Oscar.
"What are your orders, Pine ?!" A female soldier asked him.
For a couple of seconds there, Oscar froze up, gritting his teeth, then: "Send one group to each side of the Wall! Search all the buildings near the inner gate! Report any findings with an acoustic shell!" I have stopped and added, "A-Alright?"
Most of them were amused by the comment, making Oscar blush with embarrassment.
"Roger!" The soldiers began to pour off the Wall.
"Another big gamble of yours?" Russel guessed, eyes following the group left.
"No," Ozpin replied, "he's proven himself. He's one of our greatest weapons."
"I just hope my counterpart makes it," Oscar commented nervously.
Sun patted him on the back "Don't worry man for sure everything will be fine" he reassured him.
"Ruby's coming to plug the inner gate." Russel turned to look at the side. "What now? Pause the operation until we find the enemy?"
Ozpin opened his eyes and said, "We continue. We'll lose a prolonged battle in enemy territory. For us, our only chance is with a decisive battle. Besides, if this is all according to the enemy's plan, we'll just have to live with it. In any case, they're not the only ones hiding something. " He touched a tube-like metal object half-hidden beneath his cloak.
"So you have a trick up your sleeve Oz" Qrow commented interested, wanting to know what it was. Raven just rolled her eyes.
"Oh, oh maybe it's a weapon" Ruby commented with childish emotion.
"I think I saw a soldier carry something on his back" Cinder commented to them, however, she hadn't thought about it too much.
"I wonder what it could be" Jaune commented to himself.
What do I do? Oscar thought, hanging from the Wall as Ruby and her group flew alongside it, heading toward the inner gate. Ruby's coming to seal the inner gate... And we don't know where the enemy's at! Why haven't they shown even though we plugged the Wall?
Soldiers searched through the broken houses.
Why can't we find them no matter how much we search? Oscar touched his head, anxiety clear on his face. This is bad... What now? If we fail... that'll really be the end! It's over. Everything... They always attack us in unthinkable ways we always fail to predict. We're always at a disadvantage because... we simply know nothing about Titans! Always...? Oscar glanced up and recalled the Colossal-type Titan they'd seen.
"Did you just have an idea?" Mercury asked.
"It may be, but I'm not sure" Oscar replied.
"Why was there a titan inside the walls? Ozpin asked looking at Character.
"Well that's because the walls were made by crystallization of titan," he told them causing several gasps of a shock to fill the room.
"Wait... does that mean the walls are made by colossal titans?" Jaune paled at the idea.
Ren, knowing where Jaune's thought was going, added "The walls are quite wide, therefore it means ..."
"That there must be millions of them" Pyrrha shuddered.
A great chill ran through everyone in the room at the haunting thought.
Oscar fired off an acoustic shell. The groups returned to the Wall.
"Did you find them, Pine ?! Where are they ?!"
"Not yet! Everyone, search the Walls!"
"I told you we already did!"
"There's nowhere to hide!"
"Inside the Walls!" Oscar countered, taking them and the commander, who stood at the edge of the group, by surprise.
"Inside the Walls?"
"And it is!" Oscar gave a firm nod. "There must be a spot where someone could stay inside for a long time!"
"How do you know that ?!"
"It's a hunch," Oscar answered, eyes down.
"Do you have any idea what sort of situation we're in ?!" A man grabbed his shoulders. "We don't have time to waste on hunches!"
"Think about it!" Oscar implored. "The enemy always attacks us using Titan powers in ways we never imagine! If we constrain ourselves to common sense and reason, we'll never be able to gain the upper hand!"
"Inside the walls" James repeated "He may be right, if the walls have holes inside them then they could hide in that place" James turned to see Oscar "He has a brilliant mind Pine" Praise.
"I'm not that smart" Oscar shook his head while laughing nervously.
"You may not be right now young Pine" Ozpin commented "but this is one of many of the personalities you can get, not to mention the one where you are the Spider Shoulder"
The compliments only made Oscar blush.
The group was startled when Ozpin suddenly fired off a red smoke signal.
Ruby's group stopped, suspended from the side of the Wall.
"The signal to halt the mission!"
"All troops," Penny said to the soldiers behind her, "scatter and stand by atop the Wall!"
"Roger!"
"There are times to be strict and times to be flexible." Ozpin lowered his arm. "Adhere to the principles you vowed while giving everything you've got. Obey the chain of command. The reason we are here is to claim victory!"
Taking charge, Oscar began directing the group. "Break into two groups again and search the surface! Especially above the gate! Commence the search!"
At first, they gave him dumbfounded looks but obeyed a second later. "Rog... Roger!"
The soldiers began testing the Wall, tapping their swords against the stone.
"But how are they going to find them?" Yang asked "There is a lot of surfaces to cover. It will take hours."
"It's not necessary," replied Penny "That's why Oscar mentioned the door. They know they have to go through the door, so there is a good chance that they are hiding somewhere nearby. Especially since their scout managed to transmit. they had arrived and the pot was still hot when they got there "Penny explained.
"That makes sense" Yang commented.
"Good analysis Penny" James commented approvingly.
"Thank you sir" Penny replied cheerfully.
"What are they doing?" Ren muttered, standing back to back with Sun and Nora. "Should we really be waiting like this?"
"Yeah," Sun said, "so much for our surprise attack ..."
Off to the side, Ruby watched with Blake and Qrow. Oscar... Did you figure something out?
Qrow observed without a word.
Looking left, then right, Oscar lowered himself. The sound of metal tapping against stone continued around him as the soldiers slowly continued their search. A position to react, no matter when Ruby appears... A position can see everything...
Ozpin stared intently as Oscar lowered himself.
If there is such a place, Oscar thought to himself, it has to be in the Walls. If the enemy has no idea we know about the Titans in the Walls, and they think we'll never see it coming... Or possibly...?
To Oscar's left, a male soldier blinked at the sound that resulted from his blade meeting the stone.
"That sounds different than the sound of the miss" Glynda commented.
"So Oscar's counterpart's intuition was right" Ruby commented.
"Certainly little sister" Yang put an arm around Ruby's shoulder causing her to complain childishly.
The soldier fired off his acoustic shell. "Here! There's a cavity here!"
"Wait... shouldn't he move?" Pyrrha commented nervously.
"He's just alerting the enemy" Raven commented, wincing at the loud sound.
From inside the Wall, Jaune removed the piece of wood, startling the soldier, and thrust his sword through the man's chest.
Most of the public was surprised
"Shit" Sun commented with wide eyes.
"What ... but he ..." Ruby was also quite surprised that she didn't know what to say.
"It should get moved before making the noise" Raven opined.
"He was a fool" Cinder agreed.
"Damn, finally comes the exciting part" Mercury commented while eating popcorn
Ruby and Blake flinched, Ozpin too, while Qrow moved at once.
The soldier fell and Oscar cried out when Jaune revealed himself. "Jaune!"
Jaune didn't have time to react as Qrow came down, piercing his neck with his sword, stunning the four soldiers watching.
"Jaune" Several called out his name in concern, but mostly in surprise.
Raven narrowed her eyes at the speed of reaction her brother's counterpart had, "It was fast despite not having aura" Raven realized.
Jaune winced when he saw his counterpart "So am I dead?" I ask
Character shrugged "Who knows"
Running down the Wall, Qrow stabbed Jaune in the chest with his left sword, pulling away from his right hand and leaving the blade in his neck.
Most of the audience winced at the scene, others were excited, as in the case of Mercury, Neo, Vernal, Roman, and Emerald.
The whites of Jaune's eyes disappeared as his pupils appeared.
At once, Qrow shoved Jaune down and pushed himself away, letting his wire take him away as Jaune slammed into the ground.
"Shit!" Qrow cursed, crouching near Oscar.
"Those injuries must have killed a normal person" James commented.
"I understand the frustration of my counterpart" Qrow commented while taking a drink from his flask "Fail when you are so close" Qrow remembered the missions in which because of his appearance he lost his element of surprise or where he was hidden.
"Captain ?!"
"Is that another Titan power ?!"
Jaune's body began to writhe.
"So close!" Qrow said in frustration. "But I couldn't finish him!"
Golden-orange lightning shot out from Jaune's body, and Ruby and Blake stared down. Steam poured in thick waves from the Armored Titan.
"Dude, you have to admit that the transformations are impressive," Sun told his friend Neptune.
"I can't deny it, it's quite surprising actually" Neptune commented.
Jaune silently agreed, even after the injuries his counterpart had received he was alive.
"You saw that Renny" Nora replied as she shook Ren's arm "It was amazing"
"Yes Nora, I could see it" Ren replied while trying to reassure her.
"Keep on the lookout!" Ozpin told the soldiers. "Locate his allies!"
Lightning struck behind the commander.
"What was that?" Oscar asked nervously.
The ground began to tremble as countless transformations created a crescent shape of crackling light behind Ozpin.
"Shit" Sun said surprised
"How many can transform into Titans?" James was curious
"It was a trap, damn it" Qrow complained.
"Apparently they fell right into her" Raven scoffed.
"They had no other choice" Ozpin commented while taking a sip "Sealing the broken doors was one of the objectives of the mission"
"That may be true, but now they are at a disadvantage" Summer said.
The steam cleared, revealing the Beast Titan, on one knee, surrounded by Pure Titans.
The soldiers stared in disbelief at the Titans.
The Beast Titan lifted a large boulder and braced it before sending it toward Wall Maria.
"Wait... he's heading towards the soldiers" Jaune commented nervously.
"Oh shit...
"Dodge, Dodge"
"Boulder incoming!" Ozpin yelled at the projectile headed toward them. "Get down!"
A cloud of dust explored and the ground trembled when the boulder hit the Wall with a resounding boom, frightening the horses of the soldiers on the ground nearby.
"What the— ?!" They turned toward the source.
On the Wall, Russel asked, "Did he miss?"
"So he lost it?" Ruby asked.
"I don't think so." Blake pointed at the screen.
"No," Ozpin said, looking down. "That was a good aim. He plugged the entrance. Now the horses can't pass."
The hole was blocked by the broken remains of the boulder.
"So that's why the enemy had let them block the door inside?" Oscar commented.
"They'll aim for the horses and surround us to block our escape and annihilate us here."
The Beast Titan straightened.
"Then they have no choice but to fight" James commented.
"Who is that monkey?" Yang asked "I mean it reminds me of someone, but I'm not sure"
"Also to you?" Blake commented "I can't say I can remember"
"Come on guys don't give up you can win" Ruby cheered.
"We hope you're right Miss Rose" Ozpin commented.
Summer knew the comment wasn't directed at her.
"We're both hoping for the same thing. To settle it here once and for all." Ozpin unsheathed his sword. "Humans or Titans ?!"
The Beast Titan grinned while the Armored Titan began to rise.
"Which side will live ?! Which side will perish?"
Ruby glared.
An overhead shot revealed the Beast Titan with five or so dozen Pure Titans facing Wall Maria, standing in the grassy field just outside the town located at the north side of the Wall. Then the screen went black
"Not!" Yang complained "Because they always leave us with suspense"
"I have to agree," Weiss said.
"So who do you think will win the next battle?" Sun asked.
"The side of the enemy has the powers of the Titans in their favor" Ozpin commented "But we will not know the result until we see it"
Cinder scoffed, it was obvious that the humans were going to lose, they were too small compared to the various titans that had surrounded them.
"Can't wait for the next scene to happen" Oscar commented with nerves and excitement in his voice.
"Right" Ruby yelled cheerfully as she ate a bowl of cookies.
Character sighed as a smile formed on his face "See you in the next scene"
