-1 month later-
Things with Tim really haven't changed much in the last month. They had gotten to a point of the bare minimum. Talked when they had to on shift, and not at all after. Everyone had been on edge for a while after Rosiland got out but with weeks of no sign on her there was nothing left to do but keep living their lives. That was the hardest part for Lucy to handle, going back to "normal" What even was normal anymore? She had ruined her relationship with Tim by sleeping with him. Then when he professed his feelings she panicked. She knew how badly she hurt him. She wanted him too but after everything with Emmet, she didn't know how to be in a relationship again. He had hurt her in more ways than one. Maybe she was just finding reasons to not let herself be happy with Tim. But god, she missed him.
Lucy: "Good morning"
Tim: "Morning, Boot. Lots to do today, go load up the shop" he said in his "I mean business tone"
Lucy had become used to this tone since the shift between them. He had started calling her boot again and treating her like she was a Rookie. She figured it was his way of making her know he was pissed. "Get through today, Lucy" she told herself as she got into the shop. It's the same thing she has been telling herself each day. If she could just get through today, tomorrow would be easier.
Tim and Lucy rode around for what felt like forever in complete silence. Lucy got more and more fidgeting as the day went on.
Tim: "What's with all the fuss, boot?"
Lucy: "When are you going to stop calling me boot?" she said with annoyance in her voice.
Tim: "I'm not doing this with you."
Lucy: " Doing what? Having a conversation? Look I'm sorry I hurt you, but there is no reason to treat me like it's day one all over again."
Tim's body stiffened as she said those words. "L-Lucy, I'm not treating you like it's day one all over again. I simply don't have anything else to say to you. You knew where I stood and ignored it for weeks. What am I supposed to do? Continue pining over someone who has made it clear they don't want me? I love you, Lucy. I have for a long time but you don't want to hear that. So I keep it work related and talk as little as I can to you. I have to, because what I want to say are all the things you don't want to hear."
His eyes didn't move from the road as he spoke. Lucy's jaw dropped as she listened. What the fuck she thought to herself while trying to find the right words to respond with, hesitating longer than she should of. Before she got the chance to respond Tim spoke again.
Tim: "You don't have to say anything. I know you weren't expecting to hear all of that or maybe you were. Who knows anymore. But I wanted to make sure you knew that the way I am treating you is not because I don't care. The complete opposite actually. To be completely honest, I could've done without the whole boot thing. I'm sorry."
Lucy: "God, I miss when this was easy. I miss our friendship."
Before Tim could respond the only sound they heard was that of a truck blaring on it's horn before slamming into their shop. Lucy screamed as the shop flipped several times hitting her head causing her to pass out. Squinting his eyes to try and see through the smoke that was created he immediately tried to tend to Lucy except he couldn't move. His leg was trapped in. His pulse was racing as he kept trying to get his leg out. "COME ON" he yelled as he kept pulling. He could see Lucy wasn't moving. With all the smoke from around the car he couldn't even tell if she was breathing or not. He reached up to his radio to try and call for help.
Tim: "Dispatch, this is 7-ADAM19 reporting a collision with a vehicle. Truck came out of nowhere. Car is upside down. One officer unconscious, one trapped in the car, status of the pedestrian is unknown. We could definitely use the help soon, smoke is getting thick."
Dispatched informed Tim help would be arriving soon. He knew he had to stay awake, he had to help Lucy. The blood was rushing to his head so rapidly he couldn't think straight. Fighting to keep his eyes open as more time passed. It felt like hours had passed before help arrived. The second he saw the flashing lights heading their way the adrenaline left his body completely and he allowed his eyes to close. Lucy came to slowly then screamed in pain, Tim's eyes jolted back open. Lucy's head felt like it was going to explode and she could feel the flood coming down her cheeks.
Tim: "Lucy, can you hear me? Are you alright?" he said worriedly.
Lucy: "Tim, I can't feel my legs."
Tim could hear the fear in her voice. Tim began going into panic mode. Fighting every instinct in his body that was telling him to panic, he took one look at Lucy and knew he needed to remain strong for her. He used the last ounce of strength he had to reach for her hand.
Tim: "Can you feel my hand?"
Lucy: "Y-yes, I can feel it"
Tim: "Just breathe, I'm right here with you. I love you"
Lucy couldn't stop herself from crying at this point. Tightening her grip on his hand she said the words he never thought he would hear.
Lucy: "I love you too, Tim"
She couldn't keep her eyes open any longer and allowed her body to succumb to her injuries as he held her hand to try to keep her awake.
Tim: "Lucy, come on Lucy you have to stay awake." her eyes fluttered open and closed as he spoke. "You can't tell me you love me then leave me, that's not how this works." Tim couldn't even focus on his own injuries as all he was concerned of was making sure she was alright.
Help worked quickly to remove them from the vehicle and get them into an ambulance. Lucy hadn't yet regained consciousness when they had arrived at the hospital. Tim was stubborn the whole way there, frantically worrying about her status. "When can I see her?" he asked the er nurse as she checked him over.
Nurse: "Sir, you need to sit still so I can look over you. Your friend is in good hands. You won't be of any use to her if you end up doing more damage"
Tim huffed as he obliged to the nurses request. He knew it was just his leg. Everything else on him felt fine. A little sore and lightheaded but other than that he was okay. He needed to get to Lucy. He needed to make sure she was alright.
