Was working on chapter 9, then Fourth of July came and I had this flashback thing in my head for a while. Me and my good friend and fellow MU fan victortky from Deviantart did a little roleplay involving some scene time between a few monsters you're probably now familiar with, and I thought it would be the best moment to splice it onto this. I don't think anyone's ever done a 3/4 chapter, not even the Lion King. :D
Well, I am happy to see you enjoyed the previous short chapter and learned a bit more about the other Greek monsters, hope to get your reactions for the ones in this one. ;)
I know it's July 5th, I finished this a little late, but at least it's done. The more fillers I use up, the faster chapter 9 will arrive since it'll get closer to the most significant aspect right now of the story...the twins.
Also, I'd like to thank those who have contributed to the TV Tropes page for this story. For anyone who wants to see it or even add new tropes, the link is on my homepage. Chapter 8 is a wonderland of tropes that I'm sure you can find. ;)
PLEASE READ AND REVIEW! ;D
_
Sitting atop the steps of the JOX fraternity house, Dirk laid his face in his hands as he gazed across the street toward the EEK residence. Small weights were lifted as a certain sorority monsters ripped out rep after rep while a fellow sister worked as her spotter.
Dirk smiled to himself, admiring just how well Violet was doing. Her muscles rippled and she hardly broke a sweat as her strong hands worked the weights like mere plates. Like him, she was a member of the wrestling team, although if students were to compare, she would be considered the better champion. After all, she exercised 24/7 and had the agility of an eagle so to speak. She was one of the few monsters besides himself who could take on ROR member Reggie Jacobs, and was one of the top fighters in Rosie Levin's list of chew-jitsu opponents.
He barely heard the door behind him open, let alone the sound of George's feet as they stopped right beside the globe-shaped JOX member.
"Hey, enjoying the view?" George joked.
Dirk fought down his blush. "Uh, yeah, sure..."
He watched as Violet dropped the weights with a loud grunt, bending her back downward for some stretching. Just the sight of her strength was what increased her beauty, and he was well aware that male wrestlers have often spoke of her outstanding performances on the mat (among other things).
He wouldn't put it past her that she would be more than capable of holding her ground against the golden-furred JOX monster in an arm-wrestling match or just simply grapple. For being the physically strongest of the EEK sisters, Violet had amazing curves and tough rippling muscles, and Dirk knew that despite he was quite the workout addict as well, she would very well have him screaming uncle under five minutes.
He didn't bother turning to George as his attention remained focused on the purple beast. "Been feeding those annoying things again?"
George held his head up, frowning momentarily. "They're called birds and they're not annoying."
The other JOX monster rolled his eyes. "I'm more of a dog person, Sanderson."
George just sighed and shook his head before reaching into his jacket and looked at his watch. Birds wouldn't come until perhaps early evening, that was when the pigeons would begin finding more open spaces among the kiosks and public awnings of the university.
"You think that Colette chick hates birds as well?" Dirk couldn't help but.
The orange monster gulped. "I hope she doesn't."
"Yeah, or you'd really be trouble," Dirk chuckled.
George put away his watch before taking a seat next to him, taking notice of the amount of drool that was at the edge of his lips as he witnessed Violet. Her muscular body moved as she curled two large barbells that were relevant to the ones in the JOX's personal gym, her determined expression deepening as sweat finally began to form on her eyebrow and neck.
George chose to ignore the drool as he spotted two horned doves perching atop one of the Frat Row light poles. He smiled, satisfied to see doves when he had mostly seen pigeons around campus. Being a monster of bird gear and knowledge, he always vied for the rarest birds to arrive in Monsters University. At least he didn't have to climb a tree this time to see such elegant beauty...
Turning to Dirk, who was obviously salivating at the gorgeous sight of Violet, he could not help but sigh in amusement at his frat brother.
He nudged his. "Hey, Pratt, you okay?
"Hmm?" Dirk turned to him, momentarily breaking out of his captivation.
George smirked. "I know drool is a good trait in a Scarer, but I think you draw the line when it's enough to fill a tub."
Dirk frowned before quickly running a sleeve across his lips, wiping his tusks clean as George chuckled.
"Why don't you just go over there and ask her out?" the orange monster suggested.
Dirk narrowed his eyes at him. "I don't see you attempting the same thing for your so-called future sweetheart."
The smile vanished from George, and he quickly averted his gaze before his eyes fell to his feet. He and Colette had encountered a few times, that recent frat party being the only real interaction where they had taken the time to speak with each other. Since presumably the incident, they merely greeted each other or chatted a few minutes before departing for class or their own interests. All he knew much about Colette was that she adored fashion and that she a bit picky when it came to the Scare Games, most certainly what was best to wear much like the first event.
There was still so much he wanted to learn about her, and he hoped she was just as interested to learn about him. But not much would progress unless another party would occur, which he doubted wouldn't be until the twins were officially out of their coma and returned home.
Dirk playfully hit George on the shoulder. "Hey, buddy, when you get a chance, take the shot, because another one like it won't come up again if you miss it."
George smirked. "That's kind of ironic coming from the one who hasn't take the shot when it's hanging right in front of him." He gestured toward Violet across the cul-de-sac from them.
Dirk flinched, his golden cheeks turning red as he averted his gaze, which fell on said monster across from their house. One would call it irony to ever assume Dirk Pratt was actually...nervous. But glob, did any monster find anyone so amazing they would freeze in sight? He knew George had the moment the other JOX members witnessed that cute Colette girl stumble into his arms. George barely had his voice that night, and he had been stunned frozen even after she left his sight.
However, Violet never actually fell into Dirk's arms. More like he would be wrapped around in hers...in a half Nelson during practice.
"Yeah, yeah, okay..." he waved it off. "Just...just give some time to think how..."
"You kidding me?" George exclaimed in disbelief. "You've talked to her a bunch of times!"
"I know that! It's so confusing, alright?" Dirk cried, throwing his claws up.
His eyes widened when George reached over and gripped his arm. Next thing the shorter monster knew, he was to his feet and dragged across the pavement toward the EEK sorority house.
"What are you doing, Sanderson?" Dirk demanded.
"Doing a brother a solid," George replied simply with a cheeky grin.
They were nearing the two EEK girls who were chatting while Violet resumed her stretches. Before Dirk could make a dash for it, the purple monster herself turned in his direction. And her sweet smile stopped him dead in his tracks.
"Hello, Dirk...George?" She regarded both with confusion while Debbie merely stood in her shadow.
"Hey there, girls!" George greeted cheerfully. "I see you both finished your workout."
"Uh, yes," Violet responded. "Just resting for the moment." She moved her arms, uncrossing them as she stared Dirk beside George. "Just talking and all."
"I already said my fill," Debbie scoffed as if she hadn't had a care in the world.
Violet rolled her eye before continuously smiling at the two frat monsters. "Just typical girl stuff from her and all."
"Okay," George nodded. "Anyway, thought you'd maybe have a chat with Dirk here."
And with that he gently shoved his frat brother forward, a move that nearly resulted Dirk in colliding into Violet. Dirk's heart quickened the moment Violet's single eye regarded him in both questioning and puzzlement, while Debbie watched less than amusingly.
"Going to grab a cold one," Debbie said as she trailed up the steps of the EEK house. "Be right back."
"Sure," Violet said, still gazing at Dirk who was fiddling nervously with his claws. "So, what's up, Pratt?"
Dirk swallowed. "Um..."
Neither noticed as George scoot away, a small grin on his face as he returned back to the JOX house to witness the action from there. Seeing that he was alone and with no back-up, Dirk mustered up the same courage he used when he raced through that sewer of urchins as he held his head high to Violet.
"Just...just wanted to see how much you've been training since the games are, you know, postponed and all," he answered politely.
Violet raised her single eyebrow. "You kidding? My sisters and I are still going through our training routine as usual. What about you, Dirk? You and your boys been training?" Then she smirked. "Or have you been sitting in front of the TV eating pizza and drinking Blort?"
Dirk frowned playfully. "You know it's our college lifestyle."
"I thought so," she giggled as she poked his belly. "I can see you've worked out quite more than you have to."
The golden-furred monster grunted in surprise by the unexpected contact, but he then chuckled as he rubbed his chest, feeling the leftover her had for breakfast still digesting.
"Of course, as a member of the wrestling club," he answered as if it was the most obvious question in the world. "I always work out a lot. Like you."
"And yet you still can't put Reggie down a few pegs," she teased.
Oh, she just had to lay a dent on his pride right there...
"Well, not today," he grumbled, "but maybe next time. I mean, if you can take on Rosie I can so take on Jacobs!"
Violet grinned, then leaned toward him. "So you think you can take on me, Pratt?"
Dirk's tail nearly stood up on end, practically feeling her breath as she spoke to him in that rich accent of hers. The skin beneath his fur shivered as he gazed into that beautiful single eye of hers that was practically humoring him.
"Um, maybe?" he suggested carefully.
"Oh, Pratt," she chuckled, "don't bite off more than you can chew. Because I can prove to be quite a mouthful."
"You sure are..." he muttered, eyes traveling her features. He immediately snapped out of it before looking her straight in the face once more. "Um, I mean, oh, bring it, Steslicki. This will be quite a brawl."
"Like the one Red had at The Growl?" she couldn't help but bring up.
Dirk winced at the memory, remembering how he and his frat brothers had barely made it out of that bar alive without someone from another university wielding a tray or chair at them during the ongoing fight. "Well, that was a mistake. Red just wanted to prove he was super muscle monster there."
"But not so super on brains, however," she stated as gently flexed her own muscles, a gesture that made Dirk's eyes widen. "I can assure you, I am quite strong. And I have brains."
"I know that," he responded with a smirk. "Taking on the likes of you will be quite interesting."
"Is that a challenge, Dirk Pratt?" she asked, eyeing him considerably. "I don't go down easy, if that's what you're asking."
Dirk grinned. "Well, more of a friendly match, but I would love to see what you could do, Steslicki."
"Oh, I intend to show you," she replied rather mischievously.
"And what do I get if I win?" he questioned, on the point of interest.
"Meh, food will be on me," Violete scoffed like it was no big deal. "Unless there's something else you have in mind..." she added, her tone sounding rather enticing as she eyed him.
Dirk began to tense, his claws shaking as he leaned back. "Um, no, I...I don't think there is..."
"Really?" she asked, feigning surprise.
"Uh, well, just taking me to Pizza Planet will do just fine..." he insisted.
Violet guffawed, hands on her hips. "Alright. Let me just tell you that the last monster who tried to wrestle me was crying for momma by the time I was finished with him. A date with me if he won."
Dirk mentally thanked the great glob that previous guy never succeeded, and the JOX monster merely smiled and nodded.
"So, Pratt," Violet continued, analyzing her claws which had been filed to perfection, "what time and place? Keep in mind I won't go easy on you."
"Wait, you're serious?" Dirk mused.
"I wouldn't mind someone to spar in wrestling," she confirmed. "Unless you're backing out." she added with a mocking grin.
He frowned once more, his tusks gleaming in the sunlight. "No way, Steslicki."
"Good," she smiled innocently. "It would have been a real drag to have won already before it even started."
Dirk tugged his collar, coughing lightly. "So... we meet next afternoon at the gym, you know, the training mats?"
"Sure," she beamed. "Loser pays for Pizza Planet?"
Dirk grinned, almost tasting that greasy pizza. "Definitely."
"Good," she giggled, "can't wait to dine with you once I win."
DHe felt his pride poke out a little. "Hey, don't think I'll go easy on you either, Steslicki."
"Don't worry," she teased, "I doubt neither of us will."
"This'll be interesting," he commented. "Like our own private Scare Games event."
"Don't get any ideas, Pratt," she stated, tone sounding rather serious. "You touch me the wrong way and I will absolutely demolish you."
His eyes widened in surprise. "The heck you take me for? Glob!" He threw his hands up in frustration.
Violet laughed aloud, pushing Dirk on the shoulder. "I was just pulling your leg, Pratt. So, since that's agreed, I will see you in the next afternoon. Be prepared to treat me." she added with a wink.
Dirk, once more, kept his drool within the limits of his tongue as he gave a goofy grin. So entrancing that single eye of hers.
"Sure thing," he murmured.
Debbie walked out of the EEK sorority house with a can of Blort in hand, and Violet gave Dirk another wink before walking back to her fellow sister. The expression remained on his face until he returned back to George, who had watching from the doorstep of the JOX house.
The orange monster was taken by surprise when Dirk suddenly, without even thinking, embraced his fellow frat brother. He nearly lifted him off the ground as he tightened the hug.
"Thanks, Sanderson," Dirk muttered almost blissfully as he released him, "I owe you one."
"I guess it went smoothly?" he grinned.
"Well, it's not exactly a date," Dirk corrected, "but she wants to wrestle me in a match. Tomorrow."
George raised an eyebrow. "Okay, I don't know if that's good, or that's bad."
"Dude!" Dirk cried happily. "This is really good!"
"Even if she pummels you to a pulp?" George couldn't help but ask.
His quickly melted away and Dirk glared at him. "Okay, that is not what I had in mind...
After her conversation with the JOX monster, Violet turned her attention toward Debbie, who had just exited their house drinking a can of Blort, and she watched as her fellow sorority sister drank a little more before wiping her mane and lips.
"Now, where were we?" the turquoise monster said, swishing the half-empty can in her hand.
"Oh, don't tell me you're going to vent again," Violet sighed with a roll of her eye.
"No, of course not!" Debbie retorted. "I'm done with that!" She sloshed her beverage a little more. "I got another date though."
Violet gawked at her in disbelief. "Seriously? Where did you even find this one so soon after ending it with the other one?"
Debbie scoffed, having been asked this particular question many times before. "Found him at the yogurt place where I was feeding myself after I blew off the previous guy."
"He's a worker there?" Violet asked tentatively.
"No, he's a biker who was just taking some to go for his pact," the shorter EEK girl responded bluntly.
Violet cringed, recalling that this wasn't exactly the first time her sorority sister had dated males of that kind before. And those particular dates ended in painful remembrance...for the male.
"Deb, I don't think that's a good choice," the purple monster voiced out nervously. "You can't just pick up some random guy off like that after a date! Again!"
"But he seemed so nice," Debbie sighed, "and rugged. Not to mention he has membership to the Uppercrust Corner Restaurant." She then scoffed. "Yes, I know the irony of that sentence."
Okay, while the mention of him being in a motorcycle gang was a bit discomforting, at least it relieved the stronger EEK girl that he was perhaps a gentleman under the leather and shades. Of course, Violet had hoped every guy Debbie had dated was a gentleman, and her assumptions were almost always proven wrong every night Debbie went out. She and the rest of the Slugma Slugma Kappa girls would witness their turquoise sister ramble about how this guy seemed rich and incredibly nice and how this other seemed to be "the one".
They all had one thing in common: angering Debbie to the point of tears.
Violet reached over and carefully placed her claw upon Debbie's shoulder. "Just heed my words, please. I mean, you've been through this before. I just hate seeing you getting hurt again."
Debbie just scoffed once more before shaking her hand off. She really didn't want to seem inferior compared to the rest of her sisters. Being pretty and petite, she also wanted to appear as bold as their strongest member. The last thing she wanted was being pitied.
"I'm not a baby!" she gripped. "I can handle this! And who knows? Maybe this is Mr. Right or whatever..." Her voice trailed off, just as unsure as Violet, but she wouldn't dare let that show.
Violet sighed and shook her head. "Look, Deb, I know you want to find Mr. Right, but the "trial and error" method isn't really the best way. You know we can help, right?"
Debbie furiously shook her head, having been through this before. Sisters would be sisters, and her special five would probably take forever "narrowing it down" to the specific kind of guys in their university. It was her life. Her choices. Her tears.
"No, I'm good," she responded bitterly, sipping her can.
The purple monster regarded her sympathetically. "You're not just trying super hard to find Mr. Right because of what happened to your mom-"
The smaller monster whirled toward her, single eye piercingly threatening as she gripped her can. Violet flinched at the expression, watching the aluminum slowly flatten in her sorority sister's palm.
"Don't bring that up!" Debbie hissed furiously. "That is an EEK secret, and you promised not to mention it to anyone!"
Violet trembled as the heat of Debbie's anger radiated off her reddening face. Out of all the EEK girls, Debbie Gabler had the worse temper. She was like a female Big Red, and would probably lash out like Terry Perry almost inflicted on Johnny last semester. When she first brought up her personal life, the girls had taken an oath of keeping it amongst themselves. And Debbie refused to waste her time with pointless counselors who were always trying to find "the root of the problem" when hers was as plain as the horns on the Worthington heir himself.
"Okay...okay..." the purple monster assured her, holding her palms out in defense. "Just calm down, I kept my promise. Don't worry."
The rising temper diminished from Debbie's facial features before she sighed in aggravation, drinking up the last drop of her Blort.
"Thanks, Vi," she muttered.
"Yeah, no problem," Violet chuckled sheepishly.
They remained in silence, the sound of chatter among students roaming Frat Row mixed with the slurps echoing from Debbie's nearly empty can. Violet breathed through her nose, feeling she had complete her workout for the time being until later on tonight when she would do crunches in her room. She casted a quick glance over at Debbie, and the former smiled, distinguishing a thought that could perhaps placate her dis gruntled sorority sister.
"Remember that one Friday last semester?" the purple monster asked. "With the boys of Oozma Kappa?"
Debbie looked at her, fingering her now empty can. "I think you need to be more specific," she replied, although her lips tweaked in a grin.
"You know," Violet informed, "Ice Kappa Cream Friday."
The smaller monster sat beside her on the steps of their sorority house, grinning as she reflected back on that particular memory. It was about a week after the party Big Red threw for OK...
"Thank glob it's Friday!" Big Red chortled.
"What are your plans for today?" Omega Howl leader Chris asked, eyes able to see through his thickly curled orange hair.
The JOX president smirked. "Well, starters, Flora and I are going out. We won't be back until Saturday morning." he added slyly.
The rhino-like monster chuckled knowingly. "Spare me the details, O'Growlahan."
The duo spotted sorority leaders Carla and Carrie standing under the shade of a tree that stood across from the School of Scaring. The two girls noticed them and gave a friendly wave, their expression equally cheerful as Fridays meant no classes and a headstart in what they loved to do best. They had just chatted about the possibility of heading to the mall together...and discussing the earliest time the bus could arrive if Carrie's car gave out once more.
"No offense, but ever thought of getting a new car?" Carla asked the PNK president.
Carrie averted her trio of eyes for a moment, chewing her lip. "Look, I know it was easy peasy for your parents to get you your new car last month, but my parents barely have a dime to even buy me a moped!" she said with frustration. "And even though I have no idea how to ride those things like Brynn does, I'm just making an example that my parents don't have much money right now."
The EEK president could only nod, recalling this conversation the day her parents drove into Frat Row with the newest model of the year. It had been the sparkle to every student's eye...and the expense that made Carrie Williams seethe with envy. But everyone had commended Carla Delgado of replacing her car of four years with a new one, which was much faster, acquired more room, and was able to provide abundant space for her sisters.
Carrie had displayed overall affection for it to the point that she almost kicked her own vehicle right in the hubcaps had Carla not ceased her in time, allowing her to be the first monster outside her sorority to take it for a test drive. That did the trick for the moment as Carrie savored the joy of a more reliant vehicle, before she handed the wheel to Mrs. Squibbles who commented that it was just like driving her van.
"At least the guy at the shop gave you a discount because it was your fifth time..." Carla tried to pacify.
"What difference is twenty-five percent?" Carrie groaned. "I mean, if it was like forty I would totally get it!"
"You know, instead of taking the bus," Carla insisted, "let's just take my car, alright?"
"I know," Carrie rolled her eyes, "but then I'll just get all jealous again!"
"I'll let you drive," the former suggested coyly.
Carrie's face then lit up. "Okay, now we have a deal!"
Nearby Rosie Levin leaned against a posterized kiosk as she conversed with Debbie Gabler, the latter sucking on a lollipop as a treat to herself for the official weekend.
"Any plans?" the HSS girl asked her, arms folded as she rubbed her back against a few textbook sale posters.
Debbie slid the candy out of her mouth with a little pop. "Well, if my date cancels, I'm all for just hitting a night on Montropolis," the EEK girl answered. "You in?" she asked with a sly grin.
"Sure, I'm all for it," Rosie smirked. "Planning to get a new piercing on account of making me latest date cry."
Debbie nodded in approval, an evil grin plastered on her face. "Wow, he must have been a real jerk."
"That and a bit of a wuss," the larger monster rolled her eyes, "cried before I even faked a punch at him."
Debbie giggled. "I kick me dates right in the canisters."
The goth's eyes rose in surprise by the response. "Wow, they must have done a lot to push you over the edge."
"You have no idea..." the athlete grumbled.
"WHOOOOOOOOOO!"
Heads immediately turned, wondering what in the world was going on as a number of voices chanted in the distance. Red and Chris glanced around them, Carla and Carrie hovering their hands over their faces for better view, Rosie and Debbie looking over their shoulders, every Greek monster and student in the location were puzzled.
Laughter immediately echoed, one so maniacal that it was as if someone was having his own party.
"Art, you're hurting my ears!" another voice whined.
"Oh," Carla realized, sharing a smile with Carrie. "The Oozmas."
The PNK leader giggled. "I wonder what they're up to this Friday." she asked with curiosity.
"Oh, I'm dying to know," the EEK leader chuckled before she beckoned her friend for them to emerge from under the shade.
"Maybe they're going to finally sneak into Monstroland," Carrie suggested.
Carla stared at her in astonishment. "Sneak into Monstroland? What gave you that idea?"
"Well, Art said that breaking in there could be easy," the other girl shrugged, "and I honestly can't blame him because the ticket prices are as insane as the food and souvenir ones!"
Carla rolled her eyes. "Still, I don't think they'd want to pull something like that," she insisted. "Especially after the stunt Mike and Sulley pulled..." she muttered under her breath.
They turned just in time to see the five monsters of green and yellow, followed by the aforementioned former students, race from around the School of Scaring. The five were ahead, chattering in excitement while Mike and Sulley were casually keeping up, calm yet just as thrilled. The five barely watched where they were heading, nearly colliding with other students in their path and throwing quick apologies if they bumped into any. Carrie and Carla smiled at one another, the sight of happy Oozmas like children at play. It warmed their hearts and provided an even happier mood any day of the week.
And it definitely meant OK was up to something very interesting. And fun.
Apparently Squishy was ahead of them all, laughing and hooting aloud with his little hands in the air. Art was right behind him, long legs stretching with every step yet the tinier monster was able to even outrun those.
The youngest OK member looked over his shoulder in a teasing grin. "Last one into mom's van is a sweet-smelling daisy!"
His multitude of eyes were so focused on his fraternity that he barely noticed where he was dashing off to.
And he crashed face-first into the muscled chest of Big Red himself.
The JOX leader barely felt much from the impact of a tinier monster, but his face was a mixture of amusement and concern before he bent down to help Squishy up.
"Yo, hey there, Squishy-man," he greeted as soon as the other monster was on his feet.
"Hey, Red!" Squishy greeted quickly as he was about to run once more. "Now Bye, Red!"
"Whoa, whoa, hey!" the JOX president laughed as he held onto the smaller monster before he could be gone in the blink of an eye. "Where you all headed off to in a hurry? Something going on this Friday for you guys?"
"Sure is!" Don answered happily as he and his pact stopped before Big Red and Chris. None of them noticed the other monsters listen in on the conversation, determined to learn what their favorite fraternity was planning. "It's Ice Kappa Cream Friday!"
Big Red looked at him in confusion. "Ice Kappa Cream Friday?" he asked. "What's that?"
"This sounds good," Debbie whispered to Rosie as they continued listening.
"Oh, we've been doing this since our frat began," Terry explained proudly. "Some Fridays we go back to our neighborhood where ice cream man Guido brings out his truck and we eat our fill until we can't eat anymore."
"Ice cream?" Carla gasped, feeling her taste buds moisten.
Debbie barely licked her lollipop. "Now that is the sugar I really want."
"I am so going to out-eat Sulley over here!" Art bellowed, slapping a hand upon the blue monster's backside.
"We'll see about that!" the former student challenged.
Big Red rubbed his chin while Chris appeared equally interested. "At your neighborhood, huh?"
"Well, of course," Don beamed.
Heads turned at the sound of loud honking and students quickly moved out of the way as a familiar van drove into campus. Usually cars couldn't be permitted onto MU grounds unless it was Frat Row, but Mrs. Squibbles managed to pass over that particular rule to help her boys move faster.
Mrs. Squibbles rolled down her window before smiling at everyone. "Hello!" she greeted cheerfully before honking her horn. "I hope all you sweeties will have a great weekend. I know my little Oozmas will!"
The van's doors slid open before her boys quickly piled in, chanting and muttering in excitement about all the flavors they would have as soon as they got home.
"Oh, hey!" Don mentioned as he turned to the others. "If you can, you should join us! Guido loves to have new customers, on account of his business has been a little slow lately. If you feel like it, come have ice cream with us."
Debbie and Rosie glanced at each other, recalling that it had been some time since they had the sweet creamy stuff. Especially when frat parties were all about pizza, Blort, and other chunky stuff. Would be great to have some rocky road...
"Well, see ya!" Don waved as soon as the OK mom hit the gas.
The other monsters watched as the van sped off, their chants echoing as they avoided other students in their path.
Debbie smiled, having now crunched the leftovers of her lollipop before she beamed at Rosie.
"I think I know what we can do for our Friday first..." the EEK girl giggled.
~
"Here he comes!" Terri exclaimed happily as he pointed toward the edge of the street.
All the monsters lined up in front of Mrs. Squibbles's house as they heard the familiar jingle music blaring from speakers. Mike and Sulley smiled at each other, having forgotten the last time they had bought ice cream from a truck. It was usually at a malt shop or even a convenient store, or they simply bought frozen yogurt. But an ice truck brought back memories of earlier youth, and buying flavors for a cheaper price was what would make this weekend special.
The truck finally pulled up beside them as the front window slid open. A slender, stick-like monster of blue skin with a matching beret and purple eyes poked his head out and greeted the clamoring Oozmas.
"Aw, hello!" he greeted in his thick Italian accent, waving a grayish blue tentacle cheerfully. "My favorite customers! Che bellisimo!"
"Hello, Guido," Mrs. Squibbles greeted, purse in her hands, "how goes the business?"
"Slow, I'm afraid," the ice cream monster sighed, "but I'm very happy that you're all here!" He motioned to the pictures plastered on the front of his truck. "What'll it be this time?"
Art practically drooled. "I'll have four banana sludge pops, five tutti-frutti cups, six creamy cones-"
"My brother and I will have two Frostbites, two Saucy Sherbets-" Terry ordered.
"Grab me the special green pop with extra gummy worms," Mike added.
"I'll have a Captain Slugger popsicle!" Squishy exclaimed.
Guido nodded as his two hands worked to grab what they needed. He appreciated the extra they were ordering, and it was the least bit improvement to his business. There were hardly any kids around, and some monsters weren't exactly as approachable as the ones before him. Still, Guido could always see if he could try a second business and walk around the neighborhood pushing a cart with a little bell and an umbrella to give him shade-
Squishy licked his lips as the colors of red, white, and blue laid atop a stick, with its gummy eyeballs and soft center just waiting to be consumed. However, before his teeth could reach the top, his ears picked something up.
Looking over his shoulder, he peered closely in the distance.
"Uh, guys?" he called. "I think we got company."
The others turned from their treats and watched in disbelief.
Debbie smiled as she and the rest of Frat Row followed by a fine number of other students occupied the street as they caught sight of the OK house and the aforementioned ice cream truck. Around her monsters were chatting and murmuring in excitement, cash ready and willing to spend every cent for what OK described as an event worth being excited over.
"Oh, how wonderful!" Mrs. Squibbles squealed. "All my son's little friends are here for ice cream as well!"
Guido's purple eyes widened in disbelief, mouth hanging up. A large, incredibly red monster was first in line as he grinned at him.
"Give me a dozen fudge bars, will ya?" he asked. He smiled as a certain female stood beside him, her beautiful blue eye blinking wonderfully. "Me and the little lady would like to start our date with a little dessert."
Guido barely had room on his face as his smile widened, and he nearly bounced in joy he could have shaken his entire truck. "Yes, of course!"
"Wow, you guys came," Don commented as he came over to Big Red.
"Hey, other than pizza, we're crazy about ice cream!" the JOX leader laughed.
"I haven't been to an ice cream truck since I was like a kid," Flora commented.
"Same here," Debbie added, second in line behind Big Red with Rosie and the other Greek monsters in tow. "I didn't even think ice cream trucks still existed!"
"You think they still sell ice cream bars shaped like cartoon characters?" PNK girl Crystal asked curiously. "I had one that looked like the deformation of that current pony show."
"I am so aching for some chocolate bars!" HSS girl Sonia Lewis grinned. "Chocolate ice cream with chocolate syrup! Oh, and chocolate bits on top just to complete it!"
"Luckily I burn calories even while standing here," Carla chuckled, peering over a monster's shoulder to see how much closer she was. "Glob, we should come here more often!"
Behind her, Johnny appeared rather hesitant, hunching his shoulders as if embarrassed to even be in line. But all the other Greek monsters were itching to come, and that would leave Frat Row like a ghost town with only the RORs left. And Chet was dying to have some ice cream after having finished it all in their kitchen during the week.
"What different does this make from buying ice cream at the cafeteria?" Johnny muttered.
Carla rolled her eyes, folding her arms. "Oh, come on, Worthington! Haven't you ever flagged an ice cream truck when you were a kid?"
Johnny raised an eyebrow. "As a kid! We're adults!"
"So are Oozma Kappa," she pointed out.
He groaned. "They're Oozma Kappa! What do you think-"
"Oh, hey, line's moving!" she squealed. "Oh, glob, I'm almost next!" She peered at the menu plastered across the white paint job of the vehicle. "Oh, man, so many choices!" She smirked. "Well, I guess getting one of everything won't hurt."
He looked at her in confusion. "I never thought you'd eat that much."
Carla snorted. "Hey, I may work out a lot. But even with this hot body, I am free to splurge!"
An hour went by as Guido continuously granted orders, making more money than he had in months as monsters came in line for seconds, thirds, and even fourths. The lawn of OK house was littered with students, and Mrs. Squibbles was able to bring out a few trash cans for them to discard popsicle sticks and ice cream wrappers.
Oozma Kappa had never really thrown a party before. But this was an absolute frat celebration in its own right, and everyone was having fun and enjoying what could probably replace Blort and pizza for a change. It felt like childhood all over again, simply tasting and consuming sweets and not caring how much was being melted and falling onto one's skin of clothing.
Debbie was about to wipe her hand across her mouth when Don quickly came over with some tissues. He had been constantly handing them out, working like a busboy at a restaurant.
"Here you go, sweetheart," the mature student said.
The EEK girl smiled, accepting it before using it to wipe her mouth this time. As she did so, Don turned to Big Red.
"It really means a lot to us that you all came," he told the larger monster. "And it really means a lot to Guido. I mean, look at him, he's back in business!"
The JOX leader smiled. "Thanks for inviting us, Don. We're glad we were able to help the guy out. Any chance we could do this again?"
Don laughed. "Well, of course! I mean, we're practically family, Roy!"
Just hearing such a powerful word emerge from his mouth, the other frat president could only grin wider.
"Attention all college students!" Guido called, exiting out the back door of his truck.
Heads turned in his direction as the ice cream monster smiled joyfully. In his arms was a sealed box, and more laid inside his truck.
"I want to thank everyone for coming here and improving my business!" he said gratefully. "I never thought I would feed this many college students. But now I have good reason to have brought this newest ice cream of mine!"
He quickly undid the tape on the box and showed it off to everyone. Dirk Pratt's jaw fell with his tongue nearly sliding to the grass as he gawked in astonishment.
Inside the box were bars wrapped in purple paper, green font gleaming on each one.
"Blort-flavored ice cream!" Guido cried out. "And they're on me, as a thank you for your generosity!"
Being the most popular drink on campus, and Terri's favorite beverage, the younger twin hauled his brother toward the ice cream monster as other students circled him while Guido passed bars around.
Johnny looked down at his ice cream bar, which was a slimy green color that was going to melt if he didn't lick it soon. He turned to Carla who was slurping and licking hers without abandon. Amazing how much she could consume and still look fit as a track runner!
"You know, Worthington," Carla snickered, "if you really want to throw a good party, you need to bring out ice cream."
Before he could respond, he felt a light grip on his free hand and looked down to see Chet grin, green juice circling his massive lips.
"Oh, please, Johnny, can we?" he asked hopefully, like a little monster child begging his mother to buy him a new toy. "Everyone loves ice cream, not just me! Oh, please, can we prepare ice cream at our next frat party? PLEASE?"
Debbie smiled as she tapped a clawed finger against her empty can, the mere sight of the font making the memory much fonder.
Violet smiled at her sadly. "Terri loved those bars. And every Friday he would be the first in line besides Dirk to get them." she added, remembering how Guido would change route and park his truck right outside the university's gates.
"Don is such a caring dad," Debbie said quietly.
Violet sighed, knowing where all this was coming from. But she didn't dare lay a reminder to that.
"You think when they wake up they'll get ice cream for breakfast?" the purple monster asked. "You know, like how monsters do when they get their tonsils out?"
"Hospital better be feeding them good stuff," Debbie muttered. "I've been there before, and I'd rather starve than eat what they give me."
Violet laughed. "It can't be all that bad."
"No," Debbie murmured, "but I bet what they get in the tubes taste like puke in their veins."
The other EEK girl grimaced at the thought. "Okay, I'd like to not talk about the twins for the moment..."
It wasn't like the were the only ones talking about them on campus.
"So tell me a little about this new date of yours..." she began.
