"How is she Henry?" Charles asked as he entered the state of the art medical bay. Concern was etched all over his face as he gazed down at the prone form of the Asian spitfire, Jubilee.

Dr. Henry "Hank" McCoy turned tired eyes to his friend and mentor. "There has been no change." He paused before bringing the clipboard he held in his hands up to his face. "I am afraid if she does not show any improvement soon, then we may have to take her off of life support."

Charles closed his eyes at that bit of grim news. Hank's tireless medical administrations and his continuous scanning of her brain activity were proving futile. He had no idea what more can be done for the young mutant. It was six days ago that she along with Bobby, Kitty, Rogue, Remy and Kurt were returning home from an outing at the mall, when the anti-mutant group the Church of Humanity attacked them. Taken by surprise, there was no way to stop the explosive device that was thrown directly under the parked SUV they had driven. Unfortunately, Jubilee was already buckled in her seat. Moving fast, Bobby used his powers to squelch the flames, while the rest tried to haul the badly burned, lifeless body of their young teammate and friend out of the burned vehicle. With no time to lose, they contacted Xavier and Kurt worked like hell using his powers to get her home.

She was barely breathing. Third degree burns covered well over fifty percent of her body and her blood loss was quite significant. With no time to lose, Hank, Jean and the Professor got to work. After almost twelve hours in surgery, they were able to stop the blood flow with one of Hank's creations, an exopy resin that immediately clotted the blood and slowed the bleeding. She was given a blood transfusion and her entire body was bandaged in another one of Hank's creations, an organic gauze that help streamlined the healing process. A catscan showed she suffered a severe concussion as well, which really worried the Professor. They worked feverishly to stabilize her, but it was with great uncertainty that they agreed that placing her on life support was probably the only chance she had at survival.

The pall of sadness that set over the mansion after the Professor grimly outlined the diagnosis and prognosis, was heartbreaking. Everyone coped in their own way, each hoping and praying for the recovery of their friend. However, Hank refused to give up though. If there was a way to save this little one, then he will find it.

Jean walked in with a clipboard of her own. "I have the results of her blood work." Although she didn't possess her medical degree, she knew the basics, having learned from Hank and at times, the visiting Moira MacTaggert. The two men looked at her expectedly. Jean's brows furrowed as she review her findings before relaying them. "It seems that she isn't reacting to the transfusion of the plasma we obtained from Remy and Scott. But…" she paused, looking at both men with a look of wonder. "She is reacting somewhat to the plasma from Logan."

One could see the wheels turning in Hank's head at that statement. The possibilities of this discovery were limitless. Remy and Scott were the only two whose blood type was compatible with Jubilee's. Desperate, he had scrimmage through the medical refrigerator and was elated to find a vial of Logan's extremely rare plasma. As a last ditch effort, he had used it. To learn that it was having an effect was a relief.

"How is this possible?" Charles asked.

It was Hank who answered. "I think Logan's regenerative abilities are more unique than we believe. This is truly uncharted, Charles. The possibilities of what this means…"

Charles and Jean looked on at the furry mutant amused. "Henry," Charles called out. "Let us focus."

Hank grinned sheepishly. "I am sorry, my friend." He turned to Jean. "Great work, Jean."

Jean blushed at his praise. The implications of her discovery began to set in. "Do we have anymore of Logan's plasma? This may be what we need to bring her…"

"Unfortunately, we do not." Hank cut her off before turning to Charles. "However, Jean is right. This maybe the key to bringing back our little firecracker."

"That is not the only reason we will need Logan. He and Jubilee are close. He has a right to know what is going on," Charles voiced. Everyone knew that the Wolverine had a soft spot for the Asian girl and if anything was to get him to return to them, this would probably be it.

"Logan has been unresponsive since he left us," Jean offered. "He's been very adamant about being left alone."

Charles turned towards the exit, a renewed hope in his heart. If this worked, he would solve two problems in one. Bring Jubilee back and have Logan return home. "Leave Logan to me." With that he wheeled himself out, leaving the two science heads to look at each other with cautious hope.

It was almost nine months since the Wolverine had left. Charles had steered clear, giving the man his space and time, and only contacting him on a few occasions to ensure his safety. It had hurt his heart when Logan had decisively and hurriedly made his exit from the mansion. Not many was aware of the unique relationship he and Logan had. He counted the burly Canadian as a friend and ally, notwithstanding the violent origins of their relationship. None of his X-Men were aware that Logan was originally sent by the government to assassinate him, but it was a last shred of doubt the Wolverine showed that saved him. After that fateful night, the two men had declared a truce and a tentative friendship had blossomed, which eventually bloomed into a strong alliance.

He knew of Logan's feelings for Ororo from that very moment he had arrived into their tense meeting in his office. He also knew his daughter wasn't immune to the Canadian either. He watched over the years as those feelings bloomed into love, which made it extremely difficult to see them hurt each other. The Wolverine's eruption on Thanksgiving was a long time coming and Charles for one was glad, though he didn't show it, that the man's feelings and desires were out in the opened. He was worried about his daughter though. Her spirit was broken with Logan's revelations. She had come back from Africa more reserved than ever, and kept too much to herself. She was suffering and he was sure that wherever Logan was, he too was suffering. It was his hope that Logan's return will herald not only the return of Jubilee, but the real Ororo too.

Charles wheeled himself to the cathedral window that was one of the focal point of his massive office. When he was relaxed, he reached out with his powerful mind to Logan. Logan was one of the very few mutants he knew that was resistant to telepathy, so he knew he was in for a ride with this one. It took Charles about ten minutes of persistence, when he felt the other man relent slightly.

*Whatcha want, Chuck?*

Charles' sigh of relief was heavy. He got right to the point, knowing that Logan would more than likely cut him off if he lingered. *Logan, it is Jubilee*

Logan grunted. *What's wrong with Jubes?*

Charles sensed the immediate change in Logan.

*The Church of Humanity attacked her and a few others. Unfortunately, Jubilee took the brunt of the attack.*

*Whatcha mean, took the brunt?*

Charles sighed again. *A bomb was thrown under the vehicle they drove to the mall. They were headed home and Jubilee was the only one in the vehicle at the time.*

Logan's silence was unnerving in the midst of their telepathic conversation. *How bad is she?*

*She is on life support.*

Charles winced at the string of raw curses that flowed. *See ya soon, Chuck.*

With those words, Charles was forced from Logan's mind.
