Francisca and Jonathan had been married for two months. She hadn't told him but she'd felt violently ill for the last two weeks. She'd been throwing up severely and having very bad nausea. She'd made an appointment with her doctor and was in the waiting room. She hoped she didn't have to tell Jonathan bad news when he came home later that night.
The nurse came out. "Francisca Ramirez-Fatu." She said.
Francisca was in the exam room waiting for the doctor. The doctor came in five minutes later.
"Hi Francisca." The doctor said.
"Hi."
"According to your test results you are suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum."
"What's that?"
"Severe morning sickness, you're pregnant."
"I'm pregnant?" She said shocked.
"Yes."
"Wow, my husband and I just started trying."
"I'd like to exam you."
"Ok."
Francisca got on the table and lifted up her shirt. The doctor put on the gel and put the wand to Francisca's stomach.
"That explains it." The doctor said looking at the screen. "Hyperemesis gravidarum is very common in women carrying multiples."
"Multiples?"
"Yes, you're having twins." She turned the screen around. They were very small but Francisca could clearly see two babies.
"Wow." She said with tears in her eyes. "My husband is a twin."
"We'll more then likely have to do C-Section for the safest method of delivery."
"Ok."
"Your due date is August 2nd." "If we go with a C-Section it will be scheduled a few days before your due date."
Francisca was home waiting for Jonathan. She couldn't stop looking at the sonogram picture the doctor had given her. Not only was she going to be a mother, but a mother of two.
"I'm home." Jonathan said coming through the door.
"Hi." She got up and hid the sonogram behind her back. "I went to the doctor today because I haven't been feeling well and um… She took the sonogram out from behind her back. "I'm pregnant." She said smiling. "Look at the sonogram." He took it. "Look closely."
"I see two." He looked at her and smiled. "We're having twins?"
"Yes." They hugged and kissed.
"This is so great."
"I don't want to find out what they are until birth."
"Me either."
