More Than Just a Suit
Tony has been hiding something from everyone for a while. In Afghanistan he was tortured and then he had a hole dug in his chest. But what everyone doesn't know is that he also lost his right leg when the missile blew up. And now the team figured it out, and it is really hard to tell everyone how it happened
"Heads up Tony!" Steve shouted as he threw his shield, and then Tony ducked and it hit and knocked out the Hydra soldiers that were behind him
"Thanks." Tony said
"You're welcome." Steve replied as he caught his shield that came back to him, and then him and Tony resumed fighting all of the soldiers
"Guys we have tanks coming in." Clint stated as he shot an arrow at one of the soldiers, hitting him in the chest
"I got them." Thor stated as he ran towards the tanks and swung his hammer, making lightning gather in the sky
"Okay." Clint said "Are we gonna blow this place up."
"Yep. I just planted the bomb." Natasha stated as she ran out of the base, shooting all the Hydra soldiers she saw
"Got it." Clint replied, firing another arrow
"Thor. You almost done with those tanks." Tony asked after a few minutes as he shot more of the soldiers
"Yes. I have a few left." Thor stated as he shot lightning at one of the remaining tanks, blowing it up
"Okay." Tony replied
"Clint, on your left!" Steve shouted, and then Clint turned to the soldier who was sneaking up on him and shot him
"Thanks." Clint said
"You're welcome." Steve replied, throwing his shield at another soldier, and then catching it again
Steve continued to throw his shield at the soldiers, knocking them all out, while Clint, Natasha, and Tony shot them, and Thor destroyed the tanks
"Stark." Thor said after a couple minutes
"Yeah." Tony said in reply
"I destroyed the last tanks but there are more coming." Thor stated "I do not know if I can destroy them all."
"Bruce. You got that?" Tony said over the comm
"Yeah...Are you sure you need me?" Bruce asked from the jet nervously
"Don't be nervous Bruce. We'll tell you if Thor can't get them all." Tony stated
"Okay..." Bruce replied
"Okay." Tony said "Thor just try to get them all and if you can't and there's too many we'll get the Hulk."
"Okay. I will try." Thor said, facing all of the tanks that were coming
"Okay." Tony said
"Where are all of these Hydra soldiers coming from." Clint asked as he fired more explosive arrows at all of the soldiers that were coming at him
"I don't know." Natasha replied, shooting as many soldiers as she could
"Ah!" Natasha shouted as a soldier grabbed her and knocked her down, and then got on top of her
"Natasha!" Clint yelled, turning and running towards her
"Get off of her!" Clint shouted as he kicked the soldier off of Natasha onto the ground and then shot him in the chest, killing him
"Thank you Clint." Natasha said as Clint helped her up
"You're welcome Natasha." Clint said "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." Natasha replied "Just a bruise."
"Are you sure?" Clint asked worriedly
"Clint, I'm fine." Natasha said
"Okay." Clint said, still looking over her for injuries "Just making sure."
"Yeah." Natasha said "You don't need to be so worried all the time Clint. I can take care of myself."
"I know." Clint said, scratching the back of his head "It's just your my best friend and I get worried about you all the time."
"I know." Natasha said, putting her hand on Clint's shoulder "Thank you Clint."
Clint smiled, putting his hand on hers "You're welcome Natasha." He replied
"Guys. More Hydra soldiers headed your way." Tony said to Clint and Natasha and then they turned to see a bunch of soldiers running towards them and starting to shoot at them
"Got it." Clint said as he pulled an arrow out and Natasha pulled her guns out, and then they started to shoot the soldiers
"Thor. You almost done? We need to go soon." Tony asked as he shot at the Hydra soldiers on the ground, knocking them out
"I am almost done. I do not think I need help after all." Thor stated, hitting another tank with his hammer
"Okay." Tony said "Barton. Romanoff. Rodgers. Wrap it up. We need to go soon. I just set the bomb off. It's going off in five minutes." Tony stated
"Okay. Got it." Clint said as he shot another soldier
"Got it." Natasha replied
"Clint, Natasha, watch out!" Steve shouted as a tank Thor missed came out from the other side of the forest and started coming towards them
"Run!" Clint shouted as he shot another arrow, and then him and Natasha started to run as the tank started to shoot at them
"Go, go!" Tony shouted to Clint and Natasha as he shot at the tank, making it turn to him "Thor!"
"I got it." Thor said, and then he swung his hammer and flew towards the tank and knocked it with his hammer, knocking it over
"Thanks." Tony said
"You are welcome." Thor replied
"Guys we need to go." Natasha said
"Okay. Let's get back to the jet. The tanks are gone." Tony said
"Okay." Clint replied, and then they all started to run back to the jet which was in the forest
"Tony watch out!" Steve shouted as a soldier threw a big grenade at him, and Tony moved but his metal leg got caught in the explosion as he fell down
"Tony!" Steve yelled, running towards him as he threw his shield, hitting the soldier who threw the grenade at Tony, and then he caught it again as he knelt down next to him "Tony?"
"Oh my gosh." Clint said as him and Natasha looked at Tony's leg which was completely off and destroyed from the blast
"Get him to the jet." Clint said as he pulled out more explosive arrows and started shooting all of the soldiers that were coming at them
"Okay." Steve said, picking Tony up and then running towards the woods where the jet was
Steve ran through the woods with Tony in his arms, and then after a minute he got to the jet and ran into it
"What happened?!" Bruce said worriedly as he looked at Tony and his leg
"A soldier threw a grenade at him and it hit his leg." Steve stated as he put Tony down
"Okay. Get me the first aid kit." Bruce said as he knelt down next to Tony, and Steve ran over to the cabinet that had the first aid kit in it
"Here." Steve said after a moment, handing Bruce the first aid kit
"Thanks." Bruce said as he took the first aid kit from Steve, and then he turned back to Tony "Can you take his helmet off. I don't care if you break it just take it off."
"Okay." Steve said and he knelt down next to Tony and then ripped off the faceplate and then took off the helmet by pressing a button in the faceplate
"Is he okay?" Clint asked with worry as he ran into the jet, with Natasha behind him
"I don't know." Bruce said "Someone get us back to the tower. I'm going to need some of the medical supplies there."
"Okay." Natasha said, and then she ran to the front of the jet and they shut the back and then took off
"Is there a way we can open the suit?" Bruce asked looking around for a button, and pulling at parts of it
"I can be of help." A voice said and everyone jumped
"Jarvis?" Bruce said
"At your service sir." The voice said, coming from the helmet
"Can you open the suit Jarvis?" Steve asked
"Of course." Jarvis said, and then the suit opened up
"Okay. Get him out." Bruce said, and Steve lifted Tony up as Bruce moved the suit out of the way and then they put Tony back down and lifted his pant legs up
"Okay." Bruce said, looking at Tony's leg that was covered in blood, and then he looked away
"You okay?" Clint asked
"Yeah...I'm fine..." Bruce replied, turning back to Tony "Can I have a cloth?"
"Yeah. Here." Clint said, handing Bruce a cloth from the cabinet
"Thanks." Bruce said, taking the towel from Clint and then pressing it onto Tony's legs, soaking up the blood
"Can you get another one and wet it?" Bruce asked
"Yeah." Steve said, getting up quickly and getting a towel to wet it
"This is bleeding a lot less then I thought it would be." Bruce stated after a moment as he pressed the cloth to Tony's legs
"Is he okay?" Natasha asked as she walked over to them
"I don't know." Bruce replied
"Here." Steve said, handing Bruce a damp towel
"Thanks." Bruce said, taking the towel from Steve and pressing it against Tony's left leg, cleaning up all of the blood, and then pressing it on his right leg which was gone
"I need more towels." Bruce said, and Clint got up and grabbed one from the cabinet
"Wet or dry?" Clint asked
"Wet please." Bruce said, and then Clint wet it and gave it to Bruce
"Thanks." Bruce said, and he pressed it on Tony's right leg, soaking up the rest of the blood, and them he wiped what was left of Tony's leg off, and then put the towel down "Okay. I got off all of the..."
"What?" Steve said as Bruce looked at Tony's leg, confused
"Tony's leg wasn't exploded by the grenade." Bruce said
"What do you mean? I saw them throw the grenade and explode his leg." Steve exclaimed
"No. His...his leg was already like this." Bruce stated
"What?" Clint said
"He had already lost his leg." Bruce said "There's only a cut on this. His leg should be cut open and bleeding everywhere. But it's already closed and sewn back together."
"What?" Steve said
"It looks like he had already lost his leg." Bruce said "Maybe just a few years ago."
"You mean he's had no leg. He didn't just lose it?" Cling said
"No. He's had no leg for a while." Bruce stated "See this faded line. That's where it was sewn back together. Unless he has super healing like Steve he had already lost his leg a while ago."
"So he...he has no leg?" Clint said
"Yeah." Bruce said, looking back at Tony's leg which was starting to bleed again
"Can I have the wrap." Bruce said as he pressed the cloth back onto his leg
"Yeah. Here." Clint said, getting the wrap from the first aid kit and handing it to him
"Thanks." Bruce said, and then he wrapped up the stub of Tony's leg, making it stop bleeding, and then pulled his pants back down, covering it
"So he's had no leg and he's never told us." Steve said after a few moments
"I guess..." Clint said
"...I never would've guessed that Tony was the one with a disability and no leg." Clint said "I mean he's so..."
"Yeah..." Natasha said
"Yeah..." Clint said
"Guys, we're at the tower." Steve stated after a couple minutes as the quinjet started to go down
"Okay. Let's go." Clint said as the quinjet landed, and they opened the back and got out
"I got Tony." Steve said
"Okay." Bruce said, grabbing the wet towels and first aid kit "I got these just in case we need them again."
"Okay." Steve said, and then they all got out of the quinjet and went inside to the elevator
"Should we go down to the medical floor." Clint asked
"No. He's fine. Just a few scratches." Bruce exclaimed "Let's go down to his room. It'll be more comfortable for him."
"Okay." Clint said, and then the elevator doors closed and they headed down to the floor with their rooms
Time switch to when they're at the floor with their rooms
They all walked out of the elevator and headed to Tony's room and then laid him down on his bed
"Okay. He should be waking up now." Bruce stated "He didn't get hit that hard."
"Okay." Steve said
"Tony. Tony can you hear me." Bruce said, and then Tony started to move
"Okay. Can you get him a water Steve." Bruce said
"Yeah." Steve said, and then he left the room to the kitchen
"Tony?" Bruce said, and Tony started to move more
"Thanks." Bruce said after a minute as Steve came back into the room and gave him the water bottle
"Tony? Tony can you hear me. Tony?" Bruce said, and then after a moment Tony slowly opened his eyes "Tony."
"Bruce..." Tony said
"Yeah." Bruce replied as Tony sat up "Are you feeling alright. You took a pretty hard hit."
"Yeah. I..." Tony started but then he started to get dizzy and grabbed onto the bed as he closed his eyes
"Here." Bruce said, opening the water and giving some to him
"Thanks." Tony said, taking the water from Bruce and and drinking it
"Are you okay?" Bruce asked after a few moments once Tony was finished drinking
"Yeah. I..." Tony said but then noticed his leg and his eyes widened
"Tony it's okay. It's okay." Bruce said as Tony started to breath heavily
"Breath Tony. Breath." Bruce said, rubbing Tony's back with comfort, calming him down
"You...you know..." Tony said after a few moments, looking up at him
"Yeah..." Clint said, and then Tony put his head in his hands
"Tony. It's okay. It's okay..." Bruce said, rubbing his back
"Are you okay?" Bruce asked after a few moments
"No. I'm not okay." Tony said, looking down "I mean you just figured this out a-and now you probably all hate me and think I'm weak a-and-"
"Tony. Tony. It's okay. Look at me." Bruce said, grabbing Tony's shoulders, and Tony looked at him "We don't hate you. And you are not weak. We are not going to treat you any differently. We might worry a little more but that's a good thing. But we definitely don't hate you and you aren't weak."
"A-are you sure. I mean..I...I lied to you. A-and I'm crippled...Th-that makes me pretty w-weak..." Tony said, and he looked down, tears starting to gather in his eyes
"Tony." Bruce said, making Tony look up at him
"You aren't weak. I never even new this and you were and still will be the strongest person I know." Bruce said
"I am?" Tony said, looking at Bruce
"Of course you are. You are my friend. And would never hate you or think you're weak." Bruce stated, and Tony looked down "I promise."
"...Thank you Bruce." Tony said after a few moments, looking up at him, and then Bruce smiled
"You're welcome Tony." Bruce replied, and then Tony pulled him into a hug, and Bruce hugged him back
"You're the bestest friend I've ever had. You know that?" Tony said quietly after a couple moments, breaking apart from Bruce
"Yeah." Bruce said, smiling "I know."
"So...How did you lose your leg." Clint asked, and Tony swallowed and started to breathe heavily again
"Hey! Hey! It's okay. Calm Tony. Calm." Bruce said as he rubbed Tony's back "Remember. We don't hate you. You're still the same Tony we know and love. This doesn't change anything. We just want to know okay."
"Yeah. Yeah. Okay." Tony said, his eyes closed as he took deep breaths
"Okay." Bruce said, and then after another minute Tony opened his eyes
"Are you okay?" Bruce asked
"Yeah...I'm fine..." Tony said, looking down
"Hey." Bruce said and Tony looked at him "It's okay."
Yeah..." Tony said, closing his eyes again
"...Can you tell us how it happened?" Bruce asked after a few moments once Tony had calmed down and opened his eyes
"I..." Tony said, looking down
"Tony. I know you probably don't want to tell us but telling us would help a lot. Trust me. I know it helped me a lot when I told you how I lost my mom. This will help. Trust me. I promise." Bruce said, and then he held his hand out
Tony looked up at Bruce and saw his hand, and then he grabbed it and then closed his eyes and took a deep breath and then opened his eyes again
"...I...I-I lost it when I was in Afghanistan..." Tony stated, looking down
"When you were kidnapped?" Clint said and Tony nodded
"Oh..." Clint said
"Did they do that while they..." Steve asked after a moment
"N-no...W-well kind of...They...th-they attacked us with missiles a-and killed everyone but me...a-and then one got too close to me a-and..." Tony said as a few tears fell down his face and he closed his eyes, and then they nodded
"It's okay." Bruce said, squeezing his hand in comfort, and Tony opened his eyes and looked up at Bruce, and then after a moment he looked back down
"...Th-then they k-kidnapped me a-and tortured me a-and they amputated m-my leg since th-they didn't really have th-the stuff to fix it without me d-dying..." Tony stated
"I'm sorry Tony..." Steve said
"I-It's okay..." Tony replied, looking down at his leg which wasn't there
"...Why haven't you told us before?" Bruce asked after a few moments
"I..." Tony said
"Tony..." Bruce said, and Tony looked up at him "It's okay if you were too afraid to tell us."
"I-I'm s-sorry. I was just so afraid that you guys would think less of me a-and think all I'm good for is as Iron Man...not as Tony Stark..." Tony exclaimed, looking down
"Tony. We would never think any less of you because of this." Bruce said
"Yes" Thor agreed "We would never think that you are useless when you are not Iron Man. You are just as important either way."
"Yeah..." Tony said, still looking down as more tears started to gather in his eyes "...I-I just sometimes feel like..without the suit I-I'm nothing..since it helps me do everything, e-even walk...I feel like the suit is me...and I-I'm the suit...and then w-without it..."
"Tony..." Bruce said, putting his hand on his, making Tony look up at him with teary eyes "You aren't nothing without your suit. You are so much more than just a suit. You're smart, funny, nice...but most importantly you're my friend..Tony Stark..not Iron Man...Iron Man didn't make me be your friend..you did."
"Really..." Tony said
"Of course Tony." Bruce said, and Tony smiled
"Thank you Bruce..." Tony said
"You're welcome Tony." Bruce said, and then Tony turned to the others
"Th-thank you guys." Tony said to the others
"You are welcome." Thor said
"You're welcome Tony." Steve said
"You're welcome." Clint and Natasha said, and then Tony turned back to Bruce
"Are you okay?" Bruce asked, and Tony nodded and leaned into Bruce as more tears fell down his face, and then Bruce pulled Tony into a hug
"Thank you Bruce..." Tony whispered after a minute, his eyes closed as he hugged Bruce, and then Bruce smiled
"You're welcome Tony." Bruce replied
