Magic Solves Everything!

Shinichi really needed to stop getting abducted. He groaned a little as he touched his aching head. Just a few weeks ago, he'd gotten abducted by KID and brought to Singapore. Was this KID again? Because Shinichi noted the lack of restrains. He looked around curiously.

"Ah. You're aware, demon," a beautiful woman walked into the room, regarding him.

Her outfit looked like she had gotten lost on her way to some cosplay meet though. Shinichi frowned as the redheaded girl – not woman, she seemed to be about his age, well, his real age, not his current Conan age – approached him. There was something cold and hard to her gaze.

"Demon?" echoed Shinichi in his most innocent Conan voice. "I don't know what you're talking about, nee-san, but where are we?"

"Don't pretend," she lowered a glare at him. "I am Koizumi Akako. And you are the demon of light. Edogawa Conan. The KID Killer. Kudou Shinichi. The Heisei Holmes."

Okay. This started to feel more and more suspicious. Wonderful. Instinctively, he tried to reach for his watch, just to watch Akako pull exactly that out of her own pocket. She shook her head. He noticed that he wasn't wearing his glasses and that his shoes and belt were missing too.

"I know all of your little tricks," noted Akako. "And it won't suffice if you try to attack me before you've heard me out. I have a deal to propose to you."

"A deal, or blackmail?" wondered Shinichi with narrowed eyes.

"You're misunderstanding," her voice was even, eerily so. "I know who you are. And I can restore your body. Very easily so, actually. But I want something in return."

That didn't bode well. And Shinichi had trouble taking her seriously; Haibara was the one who had made the drug and even she hadn't fully figured out how to reverse its effects. Why would this random, very suspicious woman know – and why would she offer it? Was she working for the BO?

"What would you want in return? And how do you think you can change me?"

"I'm a witch. A very powerful witch. Whatever went wrong with your body, it can be easily fixed," Akako smiled and flicked her wrist. "Just like that, you are back to normal."

Shinichi blinked as his view-point shifted. He grew. Without the heart-attack pain that came with the drugs. Looking at his hands, he saw the long, elegant fingers, not the chubby short ones of a child. Turning sideways, he caught a look into the mirror against the wall. He was himself again. And when she flicked her wrist into the other direction, he got to see himself deage once more.

"But for that, I need you to do something for me in return," repeated Akako firmly.

"What... What do you want from me?" asked Shinichi, unable to keep the despair out of his voice.

Two years. He'd been stuck as Conan for two years. And just like that, like magic, she could turn him back. Magic. Honestly, after science had turned him into a child, he was very ready to accept many impossible things. This seemed more impossible than others, but... what other explanation did he have? For now, he lived in this bubble, in the here and now, where this was possible.

"You are a danger to Kaitou KID," stated Akako. "But only because you are running on different paths. If someone were to put the both of you onto the same path, you would realize that you are merely distractions for each other. You distract one another from your real goal."

"Kaitou KID? So he does have a goal," his detective-mind kicked in immediately.

"Of course he does. Everybody does. But you two are so enamored with one another, you don't see that when you're apart, you're fighting the same battle," continued Akako. "You're entangled by the red string that connects you. If I turn you back, I demand you untangle yourself. Help him."

"I... I'm supposed to help Kaitou KID? A thief? A criminal?" Shinichi narrowed his eyes.

"Because he can lead you to those you truly desire to arrest," Akako held his gaze steadily.

"Why? What is your gain in all of this?" Shinichi crossed his arms over his chest.

"I have a... personal investment in Kaitou KID. And in his success. The details are of no concern to you," Akako's eyes were cold, like steel knives to Shinichi's throat. "If you keep chasing him, you will chase him into certain doom. But if the two of you run together with each other, you could achieve great things. You could take out an entire army of crows, together."

Shinichi's eyes narrowed as he tried to read her every micro-expression. She seemed genuine, but that didn't mean much. It simply meant that she believed her words to be true. The question now was how far Shinichi was willing to believe her words. How much he was willing to risk.

Kaito was having a bit of a slow day. School, homework, dinner at the Nakamoris. No heist, nothing eventful, even Hakuba was back in England right now and Akako had been suspiciously absent today. There wasn't an immediate upcoming heist that he would have to scout or plan for either. He was toying with some ideas, some tricks he thought that would enchant his tantei-kun, but nothing big enough to build a heist around yet. He liked doing that, ever since the Miracoulous Midair Walk, thinking up heists specifically to challenge his tantei-kun and to try and get that expression from him – the one filled with wonder and awe, when even the greatest of detectives would stop thinking for once and instead just enjoy the magic. Those moments, they were very precious to Kaito. Even if the bait of the night could not possibly be Pandora. But every now and then, Kaito needed something for himself. His time with tantei-kun was all for himself.

Yawning, Kaito turned around in his swirly chair, looking out the window and at the half-moon. Would be a bit until he'd next be able to check for Pandora. Mh, what could he do...? Watch a movie? Maybe check on his tantei-kun? Sometimes, he liked to drop by the agency, as a delivery person or mail man or pretend potential client, just to see the great detective. Which wasn't as creepy as it sounded because Edogawa Conan tended to get himself involved in so many dangerous and potentially deadly situations, it was just a precaution to check in on him occasionally!

Before he could come to a decision, the doorbell's ringing interrupted his thought. Did Aoko want to check in on him...? No one else came over at that late an hour. Curious, he got up and made his way down. They could play video games! That'd be a good way to end the day too.

"Aoko! Did you miss me alrea-" started Kaito cheerfully as he opened the door.

The sentence hung half-spoken in the air, because Kaito's brain had come to a screeching halt. There, in front of his door, stood none other than the great detective. Fully grown. Kudou Shinichi, leaning heavily against the door-frame with one arm, the upper buttons on his shirt open, pants hugging his long, athletic legs just right and oh. Kaito had stared at pictures of Shinichi before – to perfect his disguise. But the real deal? He had never had the pleasure to. Slowly, his eyes wandered up again, until settling on Shinichi's face. That cocky little smirk, that know-it-all detective smirk. It did things to Kaito. And those eyes, those brilliant, blue eyes. Staring directly at him.

"Kuroba Kaito," stated Shinichi, dragging his own eyes over Kaito's body. "We do look rather similar. But I can also see enough differences between us, at first glance already. Mh. Peculiar."

"W... What?" Kaito swallowed. "I'm sorry, who are you and why are you here?"

Shinichi looked utterly unimpressed. "You know who I am. Now, ask me inside unless you want us to talk in your doorway. I'm sure your neighbors would be interested..."

Narrowing his eyes at the detective, Kaito grabbed him by the arm and pulled him in. "Why... are you here? How did you find out my name? My address?"

"Your friend, Koizumi-chan, she gave me your name and address. And me, my body."

"Why. How. What," Kaito blinked repeatedly, unsure how to process that.

Shinichi slowly got off Kaito and sat down opposite him so the two could look at each other. "I'm unsure, to be honest. She was very... cryptic and confusing..."

"Yeah, she does that," Kaito chuckled a little, despite – or because of – how ridiculous this was.

"She said that... you and I were too entangled in each other, that we'd chase each other into certain doom. But if we were to work together, we could achieve a shared goal," Shinichi tapped his fingers against his knee. "I don't think I fully understand. But... she gave me my body back, under the condition that I would help you. And I'm a man of my word. So, whatever her cryptic words may mean, I am here right now to... hear you out, KID-san. Tell me why you're KID."

"I'm not sure how to process all of this," admitted Kaito doubtfully.

"I've always questioned the why, in your case," continued Shinichi after a moment. "Sometimes, you do it for... justice. To return something to its rightful owner. Other times you seem to just... do it for fun. You steal and then return the gems. And I don't understand why. But it always felt like... asking you would break whatever silent agreement we had. Now it's broken, so I'm asking you to... trust me. The same I have trusted you for the past two years with my secret."

"Emotional blackmail," Kaito snorted softly. "Kind of suits you, great detective."

"I..." Shinichi paused, looking troubled and a note embarrassed. "Care about you. I'm not just here to keep my promise to Koizumi-chan. If what made you KID is actually dangerous, if you are in danger, then... I want to... help you. Because I care about you."

Kaito's eyes widened and his cheeks flushed at that. What? Did his emotionally constipated tantei-kun just admit to caring about Kaito? Wanting to help him because he cared...? This day kept getting more wild with any passing moment. Shaking his head, Kaito leaned back.

"I somehow never expected you to actually admit that you care about me," Kaito sighed. "I mean, I know you care. You have intentionally spared me arrest on multiple occasions and even worked together with me and actually helped me before – in Singapore."

"You kidnapped me, don't act like I came to your rescue like a knight in shining armor!"

"You didn't run away either though," argued Kaito with a small, teasing grin, before turning more serious. "I... care about you too, tantei-kun. A lot. Which is why I don't want to involve you in this."

"According to your friend, I am already involved," argued Shinichi. "I think that it would be mutually beneficial if we both put all of our cards on the table and talk. And then see what's next."

"You didn't deny it," whispered Kaito. "That you let me go on purpose."

"You don't insult my intelligence, I don't insult your intelligence. Our relationship is built on mutual respect and on... trust. So I don't see a benefit to changing that and pretending you're wrong."

"Oh? Oh, we have a relationship, do we?" Kaito grinned teasingly and leaned closer.

Shinichi blushed brightly but didn't lean away. "Who knows. Maybe we can have one. After."

Mh. Now that was a proposal Kaito couldn't reject. All cards on the table it was then.

~*~ The End ~*~

Author's note: I've had this headcanon that Kaito thinks Shinichi is Conan due to magic for FOREVER, because it... makes the most sense? He doesn't know about the drug, far as we know, but he knows magic is real (and, deadass, a curse sounds MUCH more plausible than 'this drug was supposed to kill me but instead it deaged me'). And it made me think that wait if magic could turn him INTO Conan... why not use magic to turn him BACK? Anyway, here we are ;D
