The Drugged Detective
Polyshipping Week 2022
Tonight was supposed to go differently. Shinichi had been looking forward to this evening. KID had announced a heist and those always lifted his spirits. They were like a spot of brightness in his dark life of murder investigations. Yes, he loved his mysteries, he loved solving the puzzles, and he took pride in bringing murderers to justice. But it was a dark business, the depth of cruelty that humans were capable of, it affected him at times. Kaitou KID's heists though – the magic, the laughter and joy that everyone around the thief seemed to be experiencing, the lack of murders – it recharged him, it gave him the strength to push through another bound of murders.
And ever since Shinichi had regained his own body, he found even more excitement and joy in the heists. Particularly since meeting Hakuba Saguru for the first time. Unlike the police, Hakuba actually knew what he was doing. And he was delightful company. While waiting for the heist to start, they would talk. Mostly about past heists, but also about Holmes – a passion they shared.
That was what he had been looking forward tonight. A good debate with Hakuba, followed by an exciting heist and chase with KID. Perfect way to end an otherwise grim week. Only that, on his way to the heist, he stumbled into a murder. A young woman found dead in a dumpster.
He had solved the case pretty quickly, but not quickly enough – no, the culprit had grown worried and decided to take matters into her own hands, drugging Shinichi. The victim had been drugged too; to make the murder easier on her murderer. It was easier to stab an unconscious person to death than someone awake and begging for mercy or fighting back. The woman was arrested after Shinichi solved the case just moments after she must have slipped him the drug and by the time he left to rush to the heist, the drug started kicking in. He considered going to the hospital, but the nearest hospital was twenty minutes away and he knew what the drug was already; it wasn't harmful or deadly. The heist was closer. He'd be safer there than collapsing in some dark alley on the way to the hospital. The police, KID, Hakuba, someone would realize something was wrong.
"Great Detective! I was starting to feel stood up by you," KID's voice was teasing.
"K... KID..." Shinichi's voice was weak, even to his own ears.
Panting hard, he leaned against the wall for support. He was sweating, felt so hot, so he unbuttoned the top few buttons of his shirt. The hotel opposite the heist location. Rooftop. Kaitou KID in front of him, in all his beautiful glory, white cape billowing behind him.
"You're so pretty," whispered Shinichi in awe.
The cocky poker-face cracked and KID stared at him with a surprised look on his face, mouth hanging open a bit and cheeks dark. "I... uh... You are very pretty too, tantei-kun...?"
He sounded so confused and Shinichi had to smile at that. "You're cute when you're confused."
"And you are... definitely not alright," KID looked more serious now. "What happened to you?"
"Drugged," supplied Shinichi and rested his head against the wall.
"And... And you thought you should attend the heist?" KID made a distressed little noise in the back of his throat. "Tantei-kun, I was joking about feeling stood-up! Please take care of yourself!"
"Only noticed too late," Shinichi mumbled and rubbed his eyes. "Wouldn't have made it to the hospital. Made it here. Figured I'd be... okay... here... with you."
Even as he blinked repeatedly, things were still blurry. He frowned annoyed and tried to reach for the blurry white blob in front of him. His legs didn't quite cooperate and he stumbled right into the thief's arms. As expected, KID caught him in his arms, carefully pulling him closer.
"Oi, oi, oi, Great Detective," KID's voice was gentle but also exasperated.
"Mh... you're comfy..." was all Shinichi managed, face buried in KID's chest.

Kaito didn't know what to do with a drugged and cuddly tantei-kun. Cuddle him, obviously. But the rooftop didn't seem appropriate for that. He could leave Shinichi here, the inspector was hot on his heels – Kaito had waited forever on the rooftop to see Shinichi, even Nakamori had caught up at this point. But... Kaito didn't want to. Shinichi could have gone to Nakamori, or requested the aid of any other such police officer running around the grounds. Instead, he dragged himself up here onto the rooftop, to meet Kaito. Which made Kaito's heart race. After another moment, when the barking of Nakamori started to get louder and come closer, Kaito made a decision. He gathered his detective up in his arms bridal-style, holding him close – and jumping off the roof with Shinichi in his arms. Before doing so, he quickly pressed the button on his ear-piece.
"Sagu-chan, can you hear me?" asked Kaito hopefully.
It took a moment, and his boyfriend sounded confused. "Kaito? You never contact me during a heist. Did something go wrong? Are you injured? Where are you?"
"I'm unharmed," Kaito smiled at his lover's concern. "However... tantei-kun ran into some trouble. I'm... bringing him to our place. Cut things short and follow as soon as you can."
"What does trouble mean? Is Kudou-kun alright? Is he injured?" the concern in his voice rose.
"He's not injured. He is just..." Kaito paused, unsure. "He's drugged. He's unconscious right now."
"I'm on my way. Shaking Nakamori-keibu off right now," Saguru sounded serious.
That made Kaito smile a bit. He'd been so anxious when Conan left and Shinichi returned, hopeful that his detectives would finally meet and also get along. He didn't even dare to hope for Saguru to also develop feelings for Shinichi, but then it made perfect sense when he looked at it. Kaito and Shinichi looked a lot alike, so the physical attraction was no surprise – Kaito knew that Saguru was very attracted to him, after all. But both of them were brilliant detectives and they shared their love for Holmes and mysteries. Wasn't it strange, for him to be so happy his boyfriend had a crush on someone else. Yet it was all Kaito could wish for, because Kaito was head over heels in love with both Saguru and Shinichi – had long since fallen in love with the mind of the Heisei Holmes.
So now, he didn't have to feel guilty for those feelings anymore, he got to share them with Saguru. They would lay together after a heist, talk about the heist itself and also about Shinichi. It was sweet of Saguru to take a step back, leave the rooftop rendezvous to Kaito and Shinichi. They split their Shinichi-time, so to speak. Saguru got Shinichi all to himself during the set-up, they teamed up on their chase for KID and then, when it came down to it, Saguru slowed down, so Kaito could have some moments alone with tantei-kun before the end of the heist.
"Stop putting yourself into dangerous situations like that, you troublesome detective..."
Kaito glared a little at Shinichi as he landed on the balcony of Kaito and Saguru's bedroom. He carried Shinichi over to the bed, gently putting him down. He quickly fetched lukewarm water and a towel and rested the wet towel on Shinichi's damp forehead. Stupid genius detective.

Saguru was out of breath by the time he made it to their house. He frowned displeased when he entered his and Kaito's bedroom to find Shinichi on their bed, unconscious. When Kaito had said that Shinichi was a trouble-magnet, Saguru had not been prepared for the extend of that.
"Hey," whispered Kaito sleepily. "Come join me. It is very soothing to watch him sleep..."
"What happened, what did he do?" Saguru's voice was an annoyed hiss.
"He got drugged during a case, that's all I got out of him," Kaito heaved a sigh.
"Sa—gu-cha—an," Shinichi drawled the 'a's. "Heh. I knew you were sleeping with KID!"
Saguru blinked startled and stared at the other detective. "I... have no reply for that."
Nodding and humming, Shinichi rolled over. "You're very lucky, Sagu-chan."
"Oh? You consider him lucky for sleeping with me?" Kaito smirked in an obnoxious way.
"Ye—es. You're very comfy," Shinichi smiled pleased and snuggled up to him.
"Are you alright, Kudou-kun? We can get you to a doctor?" asked Saguru concerned.
"No," Shinichi wiggled his nose. "I'm okay. Just sleepy. It's not dangerous. Just... C'mere..."
He grabbed for Saguru's wrist and pulled him forcefully down onto the bed. Laying on Shinichi's other side, Saguru blinked a couple of times and sought Kaito for guidance. The thief was far too happy to offer any, just running his fingers through Shinichi's hair. That seemed like a good starting point, Saguru supposed. Sooth Shinichi while he was this out of it.
"Is this really alright?" asked Saguru unsure, resting a reluctant hand on Shinichi's waist.
"More than alright," Shinichi hummed contently. "Is perfect... Been dreaming of this for months..."
"Oh have you now, tantei-kun?" Kaito perked up eagerly. "Do tell us more about that."
"Behave yourself," warned Saguru pointedly, glaring at his boyfriend. "He's incapacitated."
Kaito pouted, but he did settle down, simply holding Shinichi instead.

Shinichi woke up with the worst hangover of his life. Groaning, he sat up, rubbing his forehead. This room was unfamiliar to him, however his two bed-companions weren't. On one side, Kaitou KID, sans his uniform, just boxers and a tank-top, on the other side, Saguru, wearing a KID pajama.
"I have questions about last night. One of you wake up and explain," requested Shinichi, before wincing. "And also, please, something against the headache..."
KID sat up and produced a glass and aspirin with a poof of pink smoke. "Are you feeling better, tantei-kun? You were drugged last night, when you got to the heist."
"...Ah. Right. The case. The jealous best friend. Drugged iced tea," Shinichi groaned annoyed.
He emptied the glass and threw himself back onto the bed, acutely aware of the other two. Saguru had rolled over to now look at him in concern. He was... cute like that, hair still messy and in those ridiculous pajamas? It'd be nice to wake up to that more often.
"You haven't commented on KID's appearance yet. Are you... still feeling the effects?"
"Mh...? No? I've just seen him like that before," Shinichi blinked. "We slept together in Singapore."
"Kaito-," Saguru sounded scandalized, eyes widening.
"N... Not like that, Sagu-chan," Kaito blushed brightly. "Tantei-kun, don't say things like that!"
Now it was Shinichi's turn to blush. Though then again, he had... come to KID. And KID had taken him here. This was... KID's home, which he seemed to evidently share with Hakuba. Frowning, Shinichi covered his face with both his hands. His head still ached so much.
"Why... did you bring me here?" asked Shinichi after a moment to gather his thoughts. "You could have brought me to the hospital. Or... to my place. Or, if you wanted me supervised, to Agasa-hakase's. Why compromise your secret identity by bringing me to your home? Revealing to me that you and Hakuba-kun are in a romantic relationship with each other...?"
"Because I wasn't worried about my secret. I was worried about you, Great Detective," KID frowned at him annoyed, poking his cheek repeatedly. "You. Got. Drugged. Anything could have happened! What if she hadn't drugged you but poisoned you? And you wouldn't have gotten away with it as luckily as you did the last time! You could have died!"
Grumbling annoyed, Shinichi swatted at the thief's fingers. "Hakuba-kun, please make your... boyfriend... stop doing that. It's irritating and I didn't come here for a berating."
"I will not do that, Kudou-kun," Hakuba actually looked at him with a pointed glare. "He is correct. You need to be more careful. You are far too reckless when you get caught up in a case. And what does he mean with you getting poisoned before?"
Shinichi squirmed at that. Now he had two of them nagging him? Why? He groaned into his hands.
"Can we perhaps just forget about that and go on with our regular life?" requested Shinichi. "You stop teasing me and I'll... forget about your relationship and this... place."
He peeked out between his fingers and got to watch Hakuba and KID have a silent conversation with each other. They both turned to stare at him with an emotion that he didn't quite understand. The detective in him was itching to get to the bottom of it, but his common sense (which very rarely spoke up) told him to stay away from that. That way laid pain. He'd been in love with KID for so long now and he had been slowly falling in love with Saguru for months now.
"I don't think we can do that, Kudou-kun," Hakuba's voice was soft. "When you were drugged last night... I understand that the drug had its effects on you, but the things you said..."
"...What did I say?" Shinichi sat up reluctantly, squinting at them.
"That you have been dreaming about sleeping in a bed with us both for months," offered KID with the sharpest grin on his lips. "And you did seek me out, personally. I feel honored, by the way."
"I..." Shinichi frowned annoyed. "Yes, okay? So I might have... feelings... for you. Again, if we could just forget about all of this, I would be very grateful."
"Again, we can't do that," Saguru's eyes were soft. "Kudou-kun, if I might... be so forward. We like you too. I... like you too. I've ever only met one other mind that fascinated me like that. And that's... his. Kaitou KID's. Which is... why the two of us started dating, because I fell for his mind."
"Which, by the way, I think that... introductions are in order, tantei-kun. Name's Kuroba Kaito. I do think that you should call your boyfriend by his real name, right? Right?" KID sounded eager.
"Are you... what?" Shinichi blinked, looking from Saguru to... Kaito.
"You say you like us. We like you too. The big problem between us was always... my identity. I couldn't reveal it without knowing it'd... lead to something, but it also felt wrong to confess to you without you even knowing my name," admitted Kaito. "And last night... was a tipping point, honestly. Seeing you like that – so... vulnerable, but seeking me out? I want you to know that I will always be there for you, tantei-kun. Shinichi."
Swallowing hard, Shinichi turned toward Saguru instead. Was this really happening? He'd been dreaming about this so often, about confessing to KID, learning his secret identity, being with him. Never had he pictured that happening while KID was in boxer-shorts and they were in KID's bed with KID's boyfriend, who turned out to be the other man Shinichi had feelings for. Which made sense to him, if he thought about it. Especially the peculiar way in which Saguru had retreated during the finale of the heists recently. He'd been giving Shinichi and Kaito space. Alone-time.
"I... don't know how this is supposed to work, or if it can – a relationship between three people; two detectives and a thief – but... I would... like to try it," admitted Shinichi with a racing heart.

Author's note: Final day of Polyshipping Week, had to write a SaguKaiShin fic! ;D
