A new story from me. I'm still not a native speaker so please be nice about my spelling and grammar issues. This story takes place after "Sunset" in "We are the bestest dancers" I'm not sure if this will have a second chapter so I think… we will see. Enjoy
Their Garden
They didn't even bother to think of an excuse, why Eva would stay at Neil's apartment after they left the mall late in the evening. And Roxy and Robert didn't ask, they knew that the relationship between Eva and Neil had changed. They had exchanged the three most important words without saying them. There in that crowded, dirty mall…
Eva hung up her code as she entered Neil's apartment and when she turned around, he was close behind her. His arms snaked around her body pulling her into an embrace and it didn't take her too long to return it. And then… they shared their first kiss. Long and sweet and full of love.
Neil smiled, there was no reason any more to stay away from people. Not from his coworkers and 'Halleluja' not from Eva anymore. She knew about his condition and she knew what could be. Still, she chose to stay. He gave a mental order to the system to end the program and when nothing happened, he hugged Eva even close because now he was sure, that this was the reality. He was not in the machine, this was not Faye, pretending to be Eva. It was just her.
"Let's get some sleep." He said after what felt like an eternity. Eva nodded. Both agreed silently that tonight they would not have sex. They waited so long to be together it wouldn't hurt to wait a little while longer.
She crawled up to him in this old college shirt, he had given her and within seconds his arms were back around her. His nose buried into her hair.
"Tell me about the garden." He said and kissed the top of her head.
She snuggled her face in his shirt and took a deep breath. "It will be wonderful and peaceful with high trees and many flowers. Vegetables and fruits will grow there and there will be a place where the ocean can be seen. I want to pant flowers that open their blossoms at night, and they will fill the air with their scent, sweet and harsh at the same time. On clear nights it will be possible to see the stars because the garden will be miles away from the next city. Maybe it'll have a small cabin. You know one of those with only one room, with a couch to stay a night if wished…" her voice trailed off.
Neil's eyes were closed he could see the garden and he could smell the flowers and hear the ocean. "Why only a single-room cabin? We could build a cottage, with a bedroom and a living room. A small kitchen and a porch to sit there. Not that big but enough to live there all the time."
He felt her smile on his shirt.
"What? Did I say something funny?"
"No, you said we…" she answered and he could hear that she was quickly falling asleep.
Yes, he said we. Her breathing became deeper and even. She was drifting off into sleep. Moments later he was sure that she had already entered their garden in her dreams. Tomorrow he swore he would sign the Sigmund Corp. Contract for the free wish which was offered to all employees and after that he would call the doctor to ask for the possibilities of the surgery, his mother couldn't have done in time, due to her pregnancy. Neil was willing to do it, to do everything that he would be able to make it to their garden. But for now, he was just satisfied by following Eva into the dreamland.
