Oceanside Omega II

Beach Vacation

The first time Akai Shuichi met his soulmate was at the beach, so he thought that it would be poetic to make a beach the backdrop of solidifying their bond. In theory, that was a beautiful and romantic gesture – and his future mother-in-law had cooed in delight and approval.

There was only one problem. Kudou Shinichi had been gone for over two years and Shuichi wasn't the only one who had been looking forward to his return. And Shuichi knew how left-out Shinichi felt. He knew how replaced Shinichi felt. His friends had moved on and built a life of their own and even though Shinichi had been right there for it all, 'Kudou Shinichi' hadn't actually been there. Edogawa Conan had. Only a handful of people even knew that those two were one and the same.

So Shuichi made a compromise. He wanted to spend time at the beach with his omega, he wanted to see Shinichi happy and carefree. And he wanted Shinichi to reconnect with his friends.

"Masumi..." Shuichi trailed off as he looked at his sister. "How do you feel about a vacation?"

Because Shuichi's little sister was the soulmate of Shinichi's best friend. Which Shuichi tentatively considered a win-win, because he himself barely knew Masumi. He still had to get to know her. So if he invited the other couple along, that meant Shinichi got to spend time with his oldest and best friend Ran, and Shuichi could all the while get to know his little sister a bit better.

"Where to?" asked Masumi curiously, kicking her legs back and forth.

"I wanted to... to take Shinichi out, to the beach. I thought you and Mouri-chan could come with us. We would get to spend more time together, perhaps..." Shuichi paused, watching the girl who looked so much like their mother. "Perhaps we could get to know each other better."

"Oh," Masumi grinned broadly. "I like that. Yes. Ran is going to love that too!"

Relief filled Shuichi. Okay, that was good. Because he wanted Shinichi to say yes.

Shinichi smelt like old books and lemon pie. It was a strange combination, but Shuichi found it very soothing. Without meaning, his eyes closed as he inhaled deeply. His nose was buried in Shinichi's hair. The only times that unbelievably neat hair got messy was when Shuichi buried his nose in it.

"What's with the sniffing?" asked Shinichi. "You... seem very... clingy today."

"I was thinking... Now that you are back in your own body, I thought we should go away together," replied Shuichi. "I want to spend time with you. Outside of Tokyo, away from all this."

Shinichi grinned knowingly. "Where no cops will call me to ask for my help?"

"That too," Shuichi chuckled. "But... We've waited for this for so long, to be together."

Shinichi hummed in agreement and leaned back against Shuichi's chest. "You invited Ran and Sera. Your sister is not as good at keeping a secret as I previously believed."

"...Ah," Shuichi furrowed his brows and rested his chin on Shinichi's shoulder. "Mh."

"And I... think you should know that it's not going to be just the four of us," added Shinichi after a moment, his cheeks dusted pink. "Because of course did Sonoko hear about it too. And she decided that her and Kyogoku-kun ought to come too. And if it's a 'proper couples' outing', then Hattori and Tooyama-chan 'ought' to come too, according to her. So... this nice, small couple's outing is turning into a group trip, sponsored by the Suzuki Corporation."

Shuichi made a face at that. Not because he actively disliked any of them, but because this sounded like it was going to be exhausting and with three teen detectives, their chances of running into murders had easily tripled. If not more. With a sigh did he press a kiss against the junction of Shinichi's neck. The omega shuddered a little, though he smelt utterly pleased.

It was so good to finally be able to properly smell his omega. While as Conan, in the body of a child, he had appeared as unpresented and thus, even just the scent of him as an omega felt like it was wrapped in cotton. Now, in his fully presented body, he also smelt fully like an omega. Shuichi loved basking in that scent and he also loved feeling Shinichi so close with him.

They had grown more physical ever since the Kudous had talked to Shuichi. Purely platonic, simply holding each other close, so Shuichi could provide Shinichi with the comfort he needed. Because while Shinichi appeared unpresented, his nose was still sharp and his instincts hadn't dulled back after he got turned into a child. So often, he would see his alpha and be unable to be close.

"Akai," there was something small and demanding to Shinichi's voice.

His fingers tugged on Shuichi's collar to pull him down until the two of them could kiss properly. Shuichi smiled against Shinichi's lips, his arms wrapping around the omega's waist to pull him close. A small purring sound came from Shinichi.

"That's okay. I'm sure it's going to be a great vacation," said Shuichi in a soothing voice.

Heiji was flustered as Kazuha clung onto his arm and kept pointing left and right. Even though the two of them had known they were true mates ever since they had presented, it still flustered Heiji to be affectionate in public. Suddenly, Kazuha made a high-pitched noise and let go of his arm to instead run off. Moments later and she was hugging Ran and Sonoko tightly.

"Kudou!" called Heiji out, happy to finally not have to correct himself anymore.

With a broad grin on his lips did he run up to his best friend and practically pick the omega up to whirl him around. Kudou huffed out a small protest but he didn't object otherwise. It was good to have him back to regular-sized instead of pocket-sized. Heiji's eyes drifted over toward Kudou's soulmate, Akai Shuichi. Honestly, Heiji didn't know what to make of the guy.

That alpha was a trained FBI sniper. A decade older than Kudou too! And Sera's brother. Also he'd faked his own death with the help of Kudou and lived under a fake name in the Kudou Mansion, at that. As Kudou's best friend, it was Heiji's duty to watch out for Kudou and he couldn't help but feel as though this Akai guy was taking advantage of Kudou. Soulmates or not, or maybe especially because that had been an opening. It just didn't add up for Heiji. The age-gap, the faked death, living rent free in the mansion. Too suspicious, way too suspicious.

"So, where are we gonna stay?" asked Heiji, slinging one arm around Kudou's shoulders.

"My uncle has a summer house here, so everybody say 'thank you, Sonoko-sama'."

"Not gonna say that, but I am appreciative of it," Shinichi grunted softly beneath his breath.

Sonoko made an indignant squeaky noise and reached out to slip her hand into her soulmate's, flustering the alpha. Kyogoku Makoto was another factor for this weekend. While Heiji was used to Sonoko, Ran and Sera, Sonoko's boyfriend was a rare guest to tag along whenever Heiji and Kazuha were there too. The problem was that the girls tended to just ditch them to do girls stuff together. Usually, Heiji didn't mind too much because he had Conan and could run off to solve a mystery or murder. Now, he ran the risk of Kudou taking off with his boyfriend.

"I think that introductions are in order," declared Sera, bouncing a little in place. "This is Akai Shuichi! My big brother. And Kudou-kun's mate."

Akai looked mildly uncomfortable with the amount of attention he was currently getting. Ran had of course already met him, so had Sonoko. Kazuha smiled as she shook hands with him and introduced herself and Heiji. Well, at least Makoto hadn't punched the guy first – Heiji had gotten to hear all about the first meeting between Makoto and Sera and the misunderstanding there. Heiji remembered his first meeting with Makoto too; the alpha was very territorial, especially of Sonoko, so any alpha he didn't know who got close to Sonoko was first and foremost perceived as a threat.

Even though Shinichi would never admit it aloud, he had missed hanging out with Ran and Sonoko, having omega outings together. He'd been envious when the two started hanging out with Kazuha or Sera (though Sera was an alpha). But now, being back, it felt good to be a part of this again. He'd gone out to town this morning with Ran, Sonoko and Kazuha, leaving their alphas behind. Though in the afternoon, he'd gone off with the guys, getting to spend some time with Shuichi.

Yes, he had very much noticed the tenseness from Hattori when they'd arrived here last night, but after this afternoon, he seemed much more relaxed around Akai? Not that he was complaining. Still, while Sera and Ran were sharing an ice (very Lady and the Tramp style in a sickeningly cute way) and Makoto was applying sun-screen to Sonoko's back (he looked ready to pass out he was so flustered), Shinichi decided to approach Hattori and ask about it.

"So... have you come to a verdict?" Shinichi's eyes trailed over to find Kazuha and Akai with Sera and Ran, also getting ice. "You aren't constantly glaring at Akai anymore."

"I... saw the way the guy looks at you," Hattori grumbled a little and shrugged. "Can't be mad about that. Besides, if he's looking out for you... you can sure use it."

Shinichi got elbowed and before he could argue did Kazuha came running up to them. "Oi, Heiji, I got you an ice. And Sera-chan and Akai-san just suggested we could play water-ball after we finish our ice. I'm thinking omegas versus alphas, if you don't mind losing."

She smirked, nudging her boyfriend as he accepted the ice. Closely behind her came Akai, also carrying two ice-cream cones. It was cute how the alpha just held out the ice and didn't say anything. These things were still kind of new for them and Shinichi couldn't help flush a little.

"Ne, ne, what do you guys say to my idea?" called Sera out, jogging over to them.

"No—o, I don't want to exercise," complained Sonoko. "But I do wanna watch."

Huffing out a laugh, Shinichi leaned against Akai's side, enjoying the alpha's warmth, the summer sun against both their skin, the sound of the waves and his friends' arguing in the background. This moment, right here and now, felt pretty much perfect. And then someone screamed.

"Dead! She is dead!" cried a distressed girl out.

Akai smiled and kissed the top of Shinichi's head. "Go. Have fun solving the murder."

The simple acceptance made Shinichi feel warm as him, Heiji and Sera ran off together. This was what made a soulmate, wasn't it? Akai understood and knew exactly who Shinichi was and what he wanted and needed. Looking back, Shinichi saw Akai sit down together with Ran.

~*~ The End ~*~

Author's note: Sooo I wrote the first sequel for one of the stories in this series. Since the first one was all pre-relationship, it only felt fair to let them be together too ;)
