The Magician's Bunny

Pulling the Bunny Out of the Hat

Heists had been much, much easier back when Kudou Shinichi was still stuck in the body of Edogawa Conan, an unpresented child. But he wasn't anymore, he had gotten his fully grown body back. Which meant that he was fully presented.

During their teenage years, everybody presented as either an alpha, beta or an omega. And with that presentation came a physical manifestation. Shapeshifting. Kaito himself, he was a dove-shifter. He'd presented only days before he had taken over the mantle of Kaitou KID. It was a tremendous help, to be able to turn into a dove and just disappear between his flock. One of the reasons he loved his hang-glider was that he got to fly, without showing off his wings. To fly with artificial means rather threw people off from suspecting him to be a bird-shifter, after all, why would he not just use his wings? The perfect cover, but he still got to enjoy the sky.

Now, Kudou Shinichi. Kudou Shinichi was not a bird-shifter. No, Kudou Shinichi was a bunny-shifter. A bunny! With long, floppy, silken ears that fell down to his chin. They looked so so soft, all Kaito wanted to do was run his fingers over them and feel if they were that soft. And worse yet, when Shinichi turned his back to him, there was this big, fluffy tail poking out from his pants. Sometimes, it'd twitch. And when it twitched, Kaito's fingers twitched to feel how soft that was.

A bunny. A cute, adorable bunny. And an omega, on top of that. His scent was sweet and alluring, making Kaito's mouth water. Kaito knew that wasn't just because Shinichi was an omega. He'd met plenty of omegas whose scents were completely uninteresting. No, that scent being Shinichi's scent was what made it appealing to Kaito. The alpha in him was purring in delight every time he met the detective, practically ready to curl together around his omega.

So that was quite inconvenient. Their little cat and mouse game that had been thrilling and fun turned into something very confusing and distracting, now that he got to see Shinichi's pretty face, smell the omega's scent, see those tempting floppy ears. Occasionally, Kaito would just forget what he was doing. In the middle of a heist! Too transfixed by the bunny-shifter.

Too in love with the detective chasing him to remember how to run away.

Shinichi's ear twitched. They were sensitive. Not just to touch – he really didn't like how people felt the need to just touch his ears without permission – but also to sounds. The good hearing was quite the advantage for the detective. An irritating part of the ears was that they reacted particularly to KID-sounds. Though Shinichi honestly didn't even know how to explain those. They were just... sounds that reminded him of the stupid thief. It was frustrating how eagerly his ears would twitch at just hearing the thief. Much more frustrating was the fact that KID was using scent-dampeners, to appear as a beta. But Shinichi knew, he knew better. He knew KID was an alpha, he'd been so close to him so often when he was still Conan. Now, in his adult body, there was much less manhandling.

Something he should be glad about, damn it all. And yet he missed it. Or, at least, he missed when KID would do it. Which was the most frustrating thing, actually.

"Thief," called Shinichi out as he turned toward the still disguised thief.

"Detective," countered KID with the usual face-splitting grin. "So glad you could make it."

Like Shinichi would ever miss a show, now that he had his body back. His tail twitched eagerly. Damn it. But at least, KID couldn't see that. Shinichi liked to imagine KID's scent then. A gun-shot broke the silence and Shinichi jumped. Damn it all.

"Friend of yours?" asked Shinichi irritated as he saw the gun-men.

"I'm afraid so," KID made his way to the edge of the building. "Those are the guys who were pulling insurance fraud with fake classic paintings. Weren't happy when I, ah, liberated the dozens of fakes and exposed them to Nakamori-keibu. Meitantei, time for chats is over. We gotta leave."

Shinichi blinked, startled, as he found himself pressed against the thief. "I'm not Conan anymore."

"Ye—eah," KID grinned. "Would you mind shifting? Easier to carry. And make it fast!"

A bullet came soaring through, right next to them. Oh, damn it all, there wasn't much other option. Too many gun-men, they were cornered. Closing his eyes, Shinichi shifted. The embarrassment didn't last too long, because then he was pressed against KID's chest and oh yes, that was the stuff. KID's actual scent. This close, even the scent-dampeners were useless. Without meaning to, he started thumping against KID's chest, until the thief's laughter made him aware of it. The gun-shots soon became a distant sound as the two soared through the night-sky.

Bunny Shinichi was too adorable to be true. So small and round, his eyes seeming so ridiculously large in this proportion. Dark-brown fur, but a cute white belly and tail. Once they touched down at the Kudou Manor, Kaito just couldn't resist. He took off his top-hat and put the bunny in it. He'd never seen a bunny glare, but when Shinichi's front-paws rested on the rim of the hat and his head stuck out, he looked down-right irritated. Which looked adorable on a bunny.

One hop and Shinichi was out of the hat. The next moment, he turned back to his human-self. Though he kept the ears and tail, as always. Kaito's best guess was that Shinichi preferred the half-shifted form, because he'd spent two years as Conan, unable to connect with his shift-form at all.

"Jerk thief," hissed Shinichi. "Don't put the bunny in the hat! That's such a cliche."

"It's a cliche for a reason," argued Kaito with a lopsided grin. "And you're just to cute."

The bunny-ears twitched in irritation and the detective glared up at him. So very cute. All Kaito wanted to do was wrap his arms around his omega and cuddle him for the rest of the day.

"Now tell me everything about that liberated fake art-work of yours," ordered the detective.

Kaito heaved a sigh and sank down onto Shinichi's couch. Once Kaito was done explaining, it was late and both were tired. To the point of Shinichi half-leaning against Kaito, seemingly asleep.

"Cute, little tantei-bun," whispered Kaito teasingly. "I wanna cuddle more with you."

Kaito was overcome with mortification when blue eyes blinked up at him sleepily. "Mh... You are very comfortable, thief. Maybe... You're allowed to come over again."

The way Shinichi blushed as he cuddled up more closely to Kaito and oh. A huge smile split the alpha's face as he reached out to caress Shinichi's hair and lull him back to sleep.
