Along Came a Spider

(Author's note: Despite this being a sequel to the 2017 film, I'm still using designs from the original show, if only because I find it more visually appealing.)

It was a shining, summer day in the city of Angel Grove. While shop owners opened their stores, they felt the ground shake slightly. Suddenly, a massive beast that looked like a crocodile with bony spike on its back that stood on its hind legs emerged from the sea and started attacking the coastal skyscrapers! Then, fighter jets appeared and fired missiles at the crocodile! The crocodile used its tail as whip to destroy the planes, then stomped on the tanks that were also attacking! Just then, the crocodile was hit by a laser! He turned and roared as giant robot with a triceratops and saber-tooth tiger for feet, black arms and shoulder pads, a mastodon head for a shield, and a horned head with smoking yellow eyes which fired lasers. It was the Megazord! "Alright, Power Rangers", said Jason, the Red Ranger, "let's send this dinosaur back to the Jurassic Age". Just as the crocodile was hit by missiles, the Megazord ran over and leaped onto the beast. The robot then started to punch the monster, but then, the crocodile threw the Megazord off! Then, it used its whip tail to send the robot flying into a building, which shook from the impact! "Good thing these buildings are empty", said Kimberly, the Pink Ranger. The Megazord dodged a bite from the crocodile and used the mastodon shield to slam into its face! Then, the Megazord grabbed the crocodile by the arm and tossed it into a warehouse! "Guys, let's try not to destroy the nearby buildings", said Trini, the Yellow Ranger. "Right, let's use that finishing move we discussed earlier", said Zack, the Black Ranger. "Right", said the other Power Rangers. The Megazord used the tusks on the mastodon shield to slice into the crocodile! Then, the robot blasted the wounds with its lasers, killing the crocodile instantly! The army closed in on the crocodile corpse as the Megazord disappeared in flash of rainbow light.

Later on, the Power Rangers returned to the Command Center, where their mentor, Zordon the floating head, resided in his tube. "How did it go, Rangers?", asked Zordon in a booming voice. "Awesome, but it was weird", said Billy, the Blue Ranger, "Ever since we slapped Rita into space, we've had monster after monster". "Indeed", said Zordon, "I've had Alpha search for any correlations between the recent monster attacks and sign of the return of Rita Repulsa. We have found nothing so far". "I've cross referenced everything and triangulated locations", said Alpha 5, a robot with a saucer head and a lightning bolt symbol on his chest, "I might have found something". "Lay it on us, Alpha", said Kimberly. "After cross referencing all the facts, I found this", said Alpha 5, "Look at the viewing globe, Rangers". They all saw a giant robot with a gold crest on its helmet, yellow eyes, black and silver arms, a sword, and a spider-web pattern on its chest battled fish-man. "Yo", said Billy, "that's Spider-Man. That dude's, like, my favorite super hero!" "Where'd you find this, Alpha?", asked Jason. "On a website from Japan", said Alpha 5. "That's where Jason, Billy, and I are going", said Trini, "You know, for the peace conference?" "Ay yi yi", said Alpha 5. "We've heard", said Zordon, "I'm not certain that Spider-Man isn't involved, but keep on your toes just in case. Good luck, Rangers."

Meanwhile, over in Japan, workers at an industrial coastal oil refinery were startled as massive beast arrived. It looked like a hybrid of a man and warthog. The hog monster charged through an oil dome, causing it to explode! Just then, the hog was hit by missiles! Then, a spaceship shaped like a sphinx flew in and fired again, killing the hog monster as the workers cheered. Spider-Man smiled underneath his mask as the Marveller flew back to Mount Fuji. Just then, he got a call on his communicator. "Hey, Hitomi, what's up?", he asked. "Nothing much", said Hitomi on the other line, "I'm just letting you know I might be a bit late tomorrow. I have to cover that peace conference. I even heard the debate team is coming from Angel Grove". "That place where the Power Rangers live?", asked Spider-Man. "Exactly", said Hitomi, "What about you? Are you doing alright?" "Yeah, but it's weird", said Spider-Man, "Ever since I killed Professor Monster two years ago, it's been quiet. Now, there are monsters popping up all over the place. Do you think there's a connection with the Power Rangers". "I'm not sure", said Hitomi, "I'll keep in touch just in case of anything involving the Power Rangers causes problems". "I'll see you later", said Spider-Man as he flew the Marveller to its hiding place near Lake Saiko.

The next day, Spider-Man drove Hitomi to airport in the guise of Takuya Yamashiro, professional motorcycle racer. He raced up the street and came to a complete stop at Narita International Airport. He took off his helmet and goggles as Hitomi got off the motorcycle, shaking out his long, black hair. "I should be done around five", said Hitomi, "What will you do while I'm gone?" "I think I'll take in the town", said Takuya, "Haven't done that in a while". "See you around, Yamashiro", smiled Hitomi as she took out her camera. Takuya put on his helmet and goggles and drove off.

Later, Takuya found himself walking through a park just south of Tokyo Tower. He considered it all now. It had been two years since he had his revenge and destroyed Professor Monster and his Iron Cross Army. What now? What does one do after winning a one-man war? Telling Hitomi and his family his secret hardly assuaged the uncertainty for Takuya. The reappearance of various monsters was a curiosity, but soon, he would be uncertain again. These thoughts passed through him as he walked past a mural painted with Spider-Man on it.

Just then, a man in a black suit with red tie appeared. He had his short, black hair parted above one eye, arched eyebrows, and a thin mustache(Think Shun Oguri in Godzilla vs. Kong). This was Juzo Mamiya, a detective from Interpol. "Detective Mamiya, what are you doing here?", asked Takuya. "I'm certain you've seen the new monsters", said Mamiya, "We have reason to believe they might be connected to terrorist attacks carried out on Apex Cybernetics. Can you help us track the culprits?" "Sure", said Takuya. "Good", said Mamiya as he handed him a folder, "Here's what we have so far. Apex, as I'm sure you're aware, was one of several developers who helped to rebuild Angel Grove after Rita's attack on the city. They later came into conflict with the Power Rangers during an attack by the Hogan twins and came to a truce with Apex liaison, Melanie Sheer." "Any word on what's happened to her?", asked Takuya as he poured over the file. "Only that she was recently transferred to an Apex outpost in Okinawa", said Mamiya, "I'd be careful if I were you. Apex has a habit of re-purposing old alien tech, ostensibly to make weapons, and that includes some old Iron Cross Army stuff." "Thank you for the warning", said Takuya, "I'll start looking for clues in Okinawa". "I'm taking the train there", said Mamiya, "I'll get another set of tickets for you". "Thanks, but I already have a way to get there", smiled Takuya.

Back at Narita International Airport, the five teens arrived and had their photo taken by Hitomi as they were approached by the peace conference M.C, a Latino with graying, brown hair, a goatee, a slightly unbuttoned gray business shirt, and a black blazer and pants. "Welcome, students of Angel Grove High", he said as he shook each of their hands, "I'm Walter Simmons, CEO of Apex Cybernetics. Welcome to Japan". "Thank you, Mr. Simmons", said Jason. "Let's get you acquainted with Tokyo, shall we?", smiled Walter. The five teens and Walter Simmons were then lead into a limo and they drove off.

"So, Mr. Simmons", said Zack as he looked over a dossier, "What can you tell us the peace conference?" "It's like a big, international debate, which is intended to make the world we live in much better", said Walter, "We have teams of three people, plus two helpers, debate the pros and cons of the other team's given thesis". "What about accommodations?", asked Kimberly. "Already paid for by Apex", smiled Walter, "We've spared no expense, I assure you". Jason looked over the dossier and noticed something. "Mr. Simmons, I've noticed you've spent some money on the Samaritan Project", he said. "Ah, yes", said Walter, "The second of my many great passions". "What's the first?", asked Billy. "Top secret, I'm afraid", said Walter, "Oh, look! We're here." The limo then stopped at a massive hotel and the five teens got out. "I'll see you all in the morning", smiled Walter, "Good luck".

Back at the Command Center, Alpha 5 noticed something ping on the computer. "Ay yi yi, Zordon", said Alpha 5, "There's something odd going on at Mount Fuji". "Thank you, Alpha", said Zordon, "I will contact the Rangers to warn them of the danger".

At the hotel, Kimberly flopped onto the bed as Billy looked out at the Tokyo skyline. Suddenly, Jason got a call on his wirst communicator. "We read you, Zordon", he said. "Rangers, Alpha 5 has detected some strange goings on at the shores of Lake Saiko", said Zordon, "We will teleport you there momentarily". Just then, the five teens disappeared in a flash of rainbow light.

Takuya saw the rainbow land near the shore of Lake Saiko. His spider-sense started to go off as the five teens came into view. "Spider Protector", called Takuya as he pushed a button on his large, metal Spider Bracelet. The Spider Protector flew out of the Spider Bracelet and onto Takuya, who then zipped it up, becoming Spider-Man. He leaped onto a large rock above the teens. "It's Morphin Time", said Jason as he and the others took out their Morphers. "Mastodon!", yelled Zack. "Triceratops!", yelled Billy. "Pterodactyl!", yelled Kimberly. "Saber-Tooth Tiger", yelled Trini. "Tyrannosaurus!", yelled Jason. With a powerful explosion and some lightning, the five teens became the Power Rangers! "The Emissary from Hell, Spider-Man!", called Spider-Man. The costumed heroes then prepared for a showdown!
