The Busy Lives of Detective and Thief

After Shinichi got his body back, Kaito stole a kiss – to go along with the heart he had apparently already stolen without even noticing. They were so swept up in the euphoria of mutual feelings and the taste of each other on their lips, they didn't consider how hard dating would be.

Now the distance was one thing, living in different districts meant they had to account for the drive. Not as easy as dating someone who attended the same school. But they could do it. If... it had only been that. No, instead there was the issue of Kaito's night-time activities. Couldn't do that date and this day was too busy preparing a heist. And if they managed to actually find a day that worked, then it was near guaranteed that either the date would be interrupted by a murder, or Shinichi would run late due to having run into a murder on the way there. Needless to say, they had to postpone more dates than they actually managed to go on.

"I have an exam on the next day," Shinichi frowned. "The day after?"

"Can't. I promised Aoko to take her to the zoo, I already canceled so often," Kaito sighed. "After?"

"Sonoko has tickets for this thing, this..." Shinichi motioned vaguely. "Ran threatened me with violence if I won't attend it. Just the three of us."

"A—and we run out of days in the week. Again," Kaito made a face. "The next week is... tight too. I got a heist to prepare and it's a Suzuki one, you know they take a lot of preparation."

"Yeah. I'll be busy with that too, uncle Suzuki already contacted me and requested my help," Shinichi huffed a bit. "I'm not 'as good' as the KID killer, but I'll 'do'..."

Kaito cackled at that and leaned in to kiss Shinichi's cheek. "Okay. Let's go old-fashioned?"

A sharp grin spread over Shinichi's lips. "I can do that."

There was one date neither of them ever missed. The most important ones. The most thrilling and exciting ones. Kaito was cackling in delight as he swung onto the roof, the cold night-air refreshing. His detective hot on his heels, but nobody else. Everyone else was following the wrong lead, which would buy Kaito and Shinichi at least half an hour, by Kaito's estimate. In a puff of pink smoke did Kaito make a picnic appear on the rooftop. The next moment, he had Shinichi hanging off his neck.

"Got you, sneak thief," Shinichi whispered before stealing a kiss for himself.

Kaito smiled softly, brushing a gloved finger against Shinichi's cheek. "C'mon, let's eat."

It probably said a lot about them that their favorite dates were heists.
