Too Good to Last
Marcy never had a problem with being alone with her thoughts. She could always get lost in them and it never bothered her in the slightest. She always had Anne and Sasha there to snap her out of it of it was necessary.
This time she found herself stumbling trough darkness. It seemed to be never ending.
"Hello? Anyone there? This is starting to get really old you know?" Marcy threw her hands up in annoyance. She took a few more steps before she saw a blinding light before her, "That's never s good sign." But she had nowhere else to go, so off into the light she went.
To her surprise it wasn't some terrible memory or scenario, it was her house. Just her house.
"Oh hey, where'd you sneak off too?" Anne peaked around the corner, a gentle smile on her face, "Got more snack for us? Because honestly Mar-Mar I think Sasha and I brought plenty."
Marcy blinked, "W-What? What's happening? Why are you..." A sudden headache hit her like a train. Marcy shook her head furiously to try to get rid of it.
"Hey, hey, Marcy. Are you ok?" Anne ran up to her and hugged her close. She felt... real. "Are feeling sick?" Anne ran her hands trough Marcy's hair, "If you're not up it we can postpone date night."
"Date night?" Marcy separated from Anne quickly, which only made Anne look more puzzled.
Sasha walked into the kitchen with a bowl of popcorn in her hands, "What's up you two?" Sasha looked from a scared Marcy to a confused Anne, "Everything... cool over here?"
"Marcy's not feeling well." Anne replied briefly glancing at Sasha.
"Oh." Sasha's frowned in concern, "Well you did say you've been having nightmares over the past week. Which is why we're here for a sleepover date remember?" Sasha walked up to Marcy, took her hand in her own and brought it to her lips, "Your handsome knights are here to protect you. Or whatever quest you've been playing lately."
Marcy felt her cheeks heat up from the kiss and the way Sasha smiled at her. This felt way too real. Way too nice. Was everything she'd been trough in Amphibia just one big nightmare? Could she really have this?"
"I... yeah. Yeah. Nightmares. That's it. I'm sorry guys, thanks for... for being here with me." She felt Anne's arm wrap around her shoulders.
"We'll always be here for you Marcy." Anne pecked her on the cheek. "Now come on, lets go see what cheesy romance movie Sasha's picked this time."
Sasha gasped dramatically, "Excuse you. I have an excellent taste in movies, thank you very much. And I see crying too, don't try to deny it."
Anne grinned, "So you do cry after all?"
Sasha's cheeks burned red, "S-Shut up!" The blonde quickly turned on her heel, Anne right behind her.
"Marcy, you coming along or what?" Both Anne and Sasha turned and offered Marcy their hands. Marcy smiled, her heart fluttering in her chest as she took a step forward.
Just as she was about to take them, both Anne and Sasha's hands vanished, leaving noting but traces of a warm touch. Marcy's smile fell, "No, no, please! Not again, please!" Marcy lunged forward trying to hug the two close but to no avail, the disappeared and so did her house. She was once again alone in the dark.
Tears streaked down Marcy's face as she collapsed to her knees.
"Oh would you stop it already?" Echoed a voice that sounded so much like her own, but she never discovered the source of it. She could however see dozen's of orange eyes trained on her, glowing faintly around her, "This was fun in the beginning but now it's staring to annoy me watching you wallow in your self-pity. You and your... emotions. Maybe it finally time to let them go?"
"I'll find them. And they'll be ok. And I'll be ok. They wouldn't leave me like this, I know they wouldn't. You'll see." Marcy wanted to sound determined, but her voice cracked more and more as she spoke. She thought she found them so many times, only for Anne and Sasha to be ripped away from her all over again.
The voice huffed, "You'll drive yourself insane trying."
The eyes fizzled out, their glow diminishing until there was only darkness again. Marcy stood up. Time to try again.
The Core huffed and grit their teeth. "Who would have thought that having a host after all this time would be so troublesome?" They raised their hand to wipe away the tears streaking down their face. They didn't even know they were capable of crying. Maybe taking someone so emotional was a bad idea. Well sooner or later she's bound to give up. The Core was getting really annoyed from feeling all of Marcy's emotions. "Stupid girl. Ridiculous."
