One sentence description:

If you're curious as to whomst I'm picturing as each character, please refer to the 'cover pic' of their story. I'm shit at giving vivid physical descriptions -but I swear I'm trying to get better, I really am- so the cover photo being the OC in question (and maybe their pairing partner if I can figure out the finer points of graphic design just enough to slap a cover together) is what made most sense for me to do.

Ages & Backstory may have been toyed with here to make things fit and flow as cohesively as humanly possible. Sorry up front if this bothers anyone.

It should be noted that Lila Morgan is the daughter that Sam lost.. But in my version, she is NOT Sonny's kid, but Jasons. Also, my version of things has Jason and Sam not together anymore. Jason will eventually date Elizabeth Webber and he is no longer tied to the mob. Just.. Trust me with this vision of mine, please?*

History

Lila Alexis Morgan was born in Port Charles, New York to parents Sam McCall and Jason Morgan on the morning of November 8th. The birth was complicated and more than once, the doctor thought he was going to lose both mother and daughter, but mother and daughter proved to be fighters and managed to pull through. Lila's vitals were weak, so she was placed in NICU to be closely monitored during the night.

At some point during the night, someone working with Helena slipped into the nursery with orders to find Lila and smuggle her out of the hospital, bring her to Helena. The nurse who was tasked with this was told that Helena was a concerned grandmother and that was it. The nurse did as asked and Helena took Lila as a move against Sam and Alexis, who'd been trying to have her thrown in prison for crimes she'd committed. It was her way of getting a little petty revenge.

Sam and Jason were told that their daughter had died due to the complications during childbirth overnight. Sam's bitterness and grief took over and she began to shut down. She blamed Alexis at first, due to a serious argument they'd had prior to Lila's birth about Sam possibly inducing labor early so that Alexis could take some stem cells from Lila and use them to help Kristina heal from leukemia, something which Sam vehemently disagreed and refused to do. The truth was revealed about Alexis being the mother that Sam lost and this almost made the whole thing just a little harder to bear. Meanwhile, her grief was also driving a wedge between herself and boyfriend Jason Morgan (This is the beginning of the end for the two of them, tbh). Jason never felt as if Lila was really gone. He tried everything to ignore his gut instinct for the most part, but for years and years, it ate at him from the inside.

As all of the above was happening, Helena had Lila in her possession. Lila was proving to be quite the stubborn and intelligent quick-thinking on her feet kind of child. From the time she was able to understand the situation she was in, Lila did everything in her power to make Helena's life a living hell only to have Helena turn and best her at every attempt. Helena led Lila to believe that her parents didn't want her, that they' had basically sold her to Helena as an effort to get rid of her. In some ways, hearing this over and over at such a young age was damaging and it did stick with Lila long after she got herself out of the situation. Helena made no effort to offer up any small bit of comfort or compassion, treating Lila like hired help most of the time and much worse than hired help the rest of the time. Lila began to tire of all this around the age of 9 and she began to plot an escape when she wasn't trying to shove the old woman down a flight of stairs, drug her food and drink or slipping into her sleeping quarters at night with a knife in her hand, always unable to finish what she'd come into the room to do. Helena did the same to Lila, of course. Lila learned early on to live with one eye over her shoulder and as a result, she turned into a very jumpy and skittish preteen.

When Lila was around the age of 12, Helena sold her off to a childless couple. Lila could feel a glimmer of hope for the first time in her life but that hope was quickly dashed upon arrival. While her 'adoptive' parents doted on her, they hated each other and living in the home was like living in a war zone. Despite all of this, Lila buckled down and quickly caught -and ultimately passed- all of the children in her grade at Port Charles Middle School. Lila used the time not spent in school or involved in karate and ballet lessons to daydream about what her life could be like if her parents hadn't thrown her away when she was born. She kept her adoptive parents at an arms length throughout this, it should be noted. She was afraid that if she let them get close to her and let her guard down, they'd either turn out to be like Helena, the woman who'd raised her for most of her life, or they'd turn their backs and walk away, washing their hands of her as her own parents had done. This mission to find her parents and show them she was just fine on her own grew into an obsession to rub into their faces how much their absence in her life didn't matter and the search began. Every time the adoptives gave her a little money, she squirelled it away and saved because one day, she intended to hire a private investigator to find her parents. This day came when she was 16 and going on 17... She approached a slightly older Damian Millhouse Spinelli after seeing an ad he'd posted on the internet. She told him she'd pay him whatever she could if he'd find her parents.

Things at her adoptive home were worsening. The fighting had gone from every few days to every single night. Her adoptive parents were the worst kind of toxic for each other. Their stress and anger at each other began to trickle down, and the two grew distant towards Lila. One night, with a little too much tequila in her system, the adoptive mother confessed to Lila that she'd never actually wanted to adopt, that she thought if she had a child, it might save the marriage. Then she hinted that Lila was just unlovable somehow, that all of their attempts to bond with her over the years had been rebuffed or ignored by Lila somehow. She told Lila that adopting her was a mistake and she wishes she'd never done it. Lila stated calmly that as soon as she was able, she wouldn't be a concern of theirs any longer. When her adoptive mother pushed for an answer as to what she meant, Lila left the house. What she actually meant was that she meant to leave the home when she turned 18 in the next two years, but she didn't feel the need to tell them.

Meanwhile, Damian Spinelli was working his magic. Uncovering the truth in it's brutal entirety, with a little help from a dvd that Sam and Jason had gotten in the mail recently, hinting that the daughter they previously believed to be dead might just be alive. Spinelli finds the mysterious teenage girl hanging out with friends in an alley, passing around a bottle of vodka to each other and he approaches her, mostly out of concern, but also curious as to whether his hunch might well be correct. He gets Lila to come back to Jason's apartment with him and he then gets her to tell him her entire story, beginning to end. She agrees, if he'll buy her another bottle of vodka and give her a lift to a friends place because quote/unquote "I refuse to go back to that fucking shit show I call home." At some point during all of this, Jason comes home. And from the word go, there's something about the blonde teen with the lilac streak in her hair that feels so viscerally familiar about her that Jason is frozen in place as he listens to her tell her entire life story. Lila finishes and Spinelli gives her the agreed upon bottle of vodka and Jason promptly reaches out and takes the bottle. Spinelli explains that Lila needs a lift to a friends place and Jason says he'll take her. While Jason is driving Lila to the warehouse her friend stays in, he strikes up a conversation. He asks about her parents, he asks about school, he asks about her interests and he asks her how she knows Spinelli. Lila doesn't believe in telling a lie. She tells him everything that led to her decision to seek Spinelli out, including the hurt and anger she felt at constantly knowing that her own birth parents didn't even want her. They're sitting in the parking lot of the warehouse her older friends hang out in and Jason nods to it. "That's a bad crowd in there, kid. Maybe you should go somewhere else instead." to which Lila replies with a shrug, "Pretty much what I'm destined for, I'd imagine. They're the closest thing to family I have, sir. I appreciate the advice but I can handle myself." and exits Jason's SUV. He watches her disappear into the warehouse and the realization as to who he suspects the teenage girl is slowly sinks in. Back at Jason's apartment, Spinelli has managed to piece everything together. All that remains is getting DNA from both Sam and Jason. When Sam arrives at the apartment, he sits her down and makes her listen to the recording of Lila's 'story'. The wheels in her mind begin to turn. When Sam asks if he knows where this teenage girl can be found, Jason, who has just arrived back at the apartment answers from the doorway, "The warehouses. I just dropped her off. She's been drinking too, by the way."

Spinelli talks to them both about getting a DNA sample. Sam and Jason agree to it, both telling Spinelli that this entire thing has to be a long shot and there's no way Helena wasn't just making it up. They ask how he'll get a DNA sample from the girl and he holds up the bottle of vodka she'd been sipping when she arrived back at Jason's with Spinelli earlier in the afternoon.

They send off for the DNA and now all they have to do is wait.

Two weeks later, the results are back in. And on the same night Jason and Sam are learning the truth about the teenage girl who hired Spinelli to find parents she believed sold her off because they didn't want her in the first place.. Lila is involved in a car accident that nearly kills her. The hospital calls Spinelli because his number was stored in her phone and they were trying to reach family. Spinelli lets Jason and Sam hear the announcement and the three of them go rushing off to the hospital where Jason nearly gets into it with Johnny Zacchara and Claudia, who were witness to the accident, with Johnny breaking a window and getting Lila out of the car before the gas leak exploded. Three hours later, Lila's adoptive parents make their way in, having only just been informed due to their fighting. Sam and Jason get into a heated argument with the couple who have adopted Lila and have been letting her do pretty much anything she wants for the entirety and the adoptive parents basically inform Sam and Jason that it's none of their goddamn business. The whole mess is sorted out down at the police station and when it comes out that the teenage girl in the middle of all this is the daughter Sam and Jason lost, a custody suit is mentioned. Before they can even get the words out of their mouths, the adoptive parents tell Sam and Jason with a bitter laugh "If you want her, take her. We don't want her, she's done nothing to make us feel like parents and we treated her decent. We bent over backwards but it wasn't ever enough to make her less like ice." Contact information is exchanged and the adoptives promise to meet up later in the week to finalize signing away their parental rights to Lila.

Lila is in and out of consciousness during all of this. She comes to at one point to find Johnny Zacchara sitting at her bedside, staring at his hands. "Who are you?" & "I saved your life. A thanks for not lettin me fucking die would be nice, baby girl." is the first ever exchange between the two. Lila mutters quietly that she'd thank him if she weren't at least 85 percent sure she'd be better off and out of everyone's way dead. Johnny hears her and he looks at her with concern. "Looked to me like ya had a lotta people worried earlier." Lila laughs because she doesn't believe him. "Right. That's the reason the adoptives don't seem to notice if I just don't come back home most of the time."

Jason happens to stop by the hospital to sit with Lila while she's out, because he's been spending most nights there, talking to her until he falls asleep, holding her hand.. Reading her the same stories he read Michael when he and Carly were on the run and he was pretending Michael was his kid years prior. The first thing he does is throw Johnny out of the hospital room and strongly caution him against coming around his daughter again. Johnny leaves, but try as he might, he just can't get the moody teenage girl out of his head. There was too much similarity between them. Not to mention, he's saved her life, he feels invested in her life now.

Jason sits down and Lila remarks that she remembers him. He gave her a lift to the hideout. She's grumbling about her throat being dry and the damned Nicorette patch on her right arm and Jason speaks up. Calmly and quietly. "There's something you need to see. And then you and I are going to have ourselves a long talk."

Lila's kind of lowkey scared, but she agrees. It's not like she doesn't have anything but time, she can't actually leave. Jason plays back the DVD that he and Sam had gotten from Helena earlier in the year, when they began attempting their own investigation to find out if Helena was trying to trick them or for once, telling the truth. Lila watches and about halfway through, she clears her throat. " The hell is that bitch doing in there?" Jason stops the DVD and asks if she knows Helena, who is seen in the footage as waiting outside the NICU door to take Lila from the nurse she had working for her. Lila goes into detail, leaving nothing out. Jason listens to his daughter's recount of a life lived with Helena, sickened and angry. He's never wanted to murder anyone more than he's ever wanted to murder Helena in this moment. Sam arrives with her mother and sisters to find Lila awake and telling Jason every single thing she had to live through at Helena's hands and then what her life was like in the home with the adoptive parents.

When Lila is finished telling her story, Jason tells her what really happened. He tells her all the pain they felt when they thought that she died.

Things don't just magically turn happy, though. Lila has been through so much. She has to test them out. She has to push them just to be absolutely sure that Helena really was lying and they really did love and want her. So Lila acts out a fair bit. Sneaking out to parties she has no business being at, getting a nose piercing after Sam expressly forbade it, drinking and nearly falling off of the railing down at the pier. By the summer, Sam is ready to find and murder Helena. She's also at a loss as to what to do. Jason and Sam had been on the brink of splitting up before they discovered Lila was alive and well and finally brought her home, and upon discovering she was alive and well, they decided to give things between them another try. Neither of them were truly happy and between this realization on both ends and the rebellion Lila was getting up to, the fighting between them and the distance only grew.

Jason happens to find Lila's journal sitting on the counter after Lila stormed out of the apartment during a particularly bad fight she was having with Sam. Upon reading it, he realizes that Lila's only doing everything because she's scared and now, she wants to run away because she feels like she 'curses' people. Like wherever she goes, fighting and anger follow. Jason shows Sam and takes off on his motorcycle looking for her. He finds her down by the pier, balance walking the railing with Johnny standing nearby, trying to coax her down. She's crying, she's telling him it'd be better if she just vanished, it's a whole mess. Jason is halfway over to the area she's standing at when Lila loses her balance and falls into the icy water. Jason doesn't think, he just dives in after her and brings her up. Once he's gotten her revived, he squeezes her until she can't breathe and tells her that she has to stop trying to die on him. Johnny kind of silently edges his way out, because he only wanted to make sure Lila was safe to begin with and he has a hot date to get to, but anyway.. Jason arrives back at the apartment to find Sam packing her things. They agree that it's better if they go their separate ways, but they discuss what they found in Lila's journal with each other and agree that maybe they should all three go to counseling as a family.

Given that Lila's bonded stronger to her father, Lila chooses to stay with Jason when Sam and Jason split up. Lila, Jason and Sam start family counseling and Lila seems to finally grasp that everything Helena ever told her was a lie. Lila settles down into a routine with her father. It's because of her that Jason and Monica begin to reconnect as mother and son, also.

Lila and Johnny have a run-in on a particularly bad night for Johnny, who has been fighting with Trevor and Anthony. Lila talks to him like he talked to her the night he found her walking the rails of the pier and she tells him that his life is ultimately his own life. That nobody gets to live it for him and he's not trapped into doing anything he doesn't want to. Johnny jokes that she's a 40 year old trapped in a 18 year old's body and she just kind of shrugs it off. They sit around talking until Lila's sure that he's going to be okay, then Lila wrangles him into the SUV and she drives him to the Metro Court, checking him into a room under the name John Bourne. After doing this, she texts his sister Claudia from his phone explaining who she is, where Johnny is and that she thinks he'll be okay.

Claudia arrives to pick up a drunk Johnny and Lila kind of stops halfway down the hall and turns back, telling Claudia, "Please take care of the big idiot? He was kinda scaring me just now. I wanna stick around but I have school.. Finals, ugh." and Claudia recognizes Lila as the girl Johnny risked his life to save nearly two years before. She smiles and promises Lila that she'll get him home and resting and as Lila's walking away, she calls out to her that she's glad Lila stuck around when most people in their town wouldn't have even bothered with him in the first place. Lila only answers with a shrug and tells Claudia that "she felt like it was her turn to save his ass this time." . Johnny is drunk af and Claudia reminds him gently about Lila being the daughter of one of Sonny's men and that he'd already been warned away on more than one occasion. Johnny laughs bitterly and tells Claudia that he'd stay away gladly, if he only knew how. Claudia reminds him that Lila's "only 18" and Johnny tells her that it's nothing like she's thinking. That he just kind of feels connected to her because he saved her life. That they've had similar struggles and if anything, he just needs her to survive and be okay because it makes him feel as if maybe one day he can. Claudia tells him that she knows it's true for the most part, but she points out that he also "feels things" because he's ten thousand times more alive / protective / concerned / possessive of Lila than he ever was of Lulu Spencer.

From this night, a bit of a friendship blossoms between Johnny and Lila. It's a friendship that Jason doesn't necessarily like, but he allows because he knows Lila well enough by now to know that if he were to tell her to leave the guy alone, she'd just keep doing what she was doing, regardless. And with her befriending Johnny, it's like having a guaranteed extra pair of eyes out for her at all times.

Sam, on the other hand. She goes above and beyond to tell Johnny to stay the hell away from her daughter, especially when he's arrested and Lila is upset and trying to appeal to PCPD that just this once, Johnny wasn't the one who'd committed the crime in question. Sam and Lila butt heads quite frequently, but they do have a bond. Lila spends just as much time with Sam as she does Jason, truth be told. They're just always quicker to argue because Sam's way of parenting is vastly different than Jason's and she hasn't realized quite yet that Lila's always going to be her own person, she's so used to doing everything for herself and making her own decisions and thus, she tries to overprotect and occasionally, interfere.

Lila decides to go to college at NYU. She reassures Jason that she's coming home "like, every weekend, it'll be like I'm not even gone, dad." and Jason tries to tell her that if she decides to stay on campus or spend time with friends, he'll be okay with that because she needs to have the whole experience. Lila is adamant. And as she's waiting in the train station, Johnny happens to find her. Lila realizes that maybe she's always had a bit of a crush on Johnny, so as a goodbye, she pulls him down to her level and lays one hell of a kiss goodbye on him but tells him not to think of it as goodbye, think of it as until we meet again.

Lila decides to enroll in the nursing program and she chooses a minor in Dance, mostly for her own personal enrichment, because she enjoyed ballet when she was taking the lessons. She comes to this decision because she realizes at some point that she wants to help people in any way she can and nursing is the best way to do that. Her weekends are split between visiting Sam and Jason and the occasional sleep over at her grandmother Monica's mansion or at her grandmother Alexis' lake house and things seem to be going well.

About halfway through her second year is when her father Jason is 'presumed dead', so she returns to Port Charles immediately and after everything's settled and they've 'buried' him, she decides that she can't just leave her grandmother Monica or her mother alone and that she misses her family too much to stay gone, not to mention Sam being pregnant with her younger sister Scout at the time, so she enrolls in PCU and takes herself a job or two until she finds out if she's eligible for an internship or not. She takes up residence in her father's old apartment and through all this, now it's her turn to question whether her father is really gone or not. And she does. Frequently. She tells herself that it's grief, that she just can't accept finally finding and bonding with a parent only to lose them, but in the back of her mind, it's eating at her that something about the whole scenario that took her father's life is off.

Jason is revealed to be alive and he returns to Port Charles. It's not long after all of this that he starts to distance himself from Sonny's organization and really begins to further reconnect with his mother, Monica. Lila decides that she wants to stay in Port Charles instead of returning to NYU to finish the last year of nursing school, and she and her father cohabitate his apartment because Lila doesn't want to stray too far again. Lila takes a spot in the internship program and Liz Webber - one of her father's longtime friends / old lovers that he's recently began to reconnect with- is her mentor of sorts.

Lila decides to go and visit Johnny at some point when he's in Pentonville and when she does, she reminds him what she said to him the night she found him on the docks and got him to a hotel. Johnny tells her that he's been thinking about that a lot and that he's not so sure she's right. She tells him that he can have his own life, that maybe his grandfather's death was a blessing in disguise. She also tells him that even if he can't see the good in himself, she can. Johnny tells her not to visit him because she doesn't need to see him like this and she tells him she's a grown ass woman, she'll do what she wants.

Of course, everyone is warning her away the whole time. And she tells them over and over again that there's nothing like what they're thinking going on. And she tries her best to convince herself that she's right and telling the truth, but deep down, she feels this strong pull and connection to him.

Currently, Lila is working as a Pediatrics nurse and while she's moved out of her father's apartment and into a small studio apartment of her own, she is constantly either at Jason's place or Sam's, or visiting one of her grandmothers. She keeps Danny and Scout frequently over weekends and she's just kind of settled and definitely done her own fair share of maturing. She knows exactly what she wants in life, and one day, maybe she'll work up the nerve to openly admit and go for it.
