Chapter 3: Senti-Ladybug
After the latest attempt at capturing the miraculouses failed, Francis's link just severed from the Sentimonster he created, Ludwig had asked him for details. Ludwig gasped after Francis relayed that Chat Noir had lied about them keeping him hostage and the existence of a clone that had unfolded on the news.
"Do you think that would be possible?" Ludwig asked.
"Quoi?"
"Would you be able to make a Sentimonster that is lifelike?"
"I could try, but of course I would have to be nearby to control it. Who do you have in mind?"
"Ladybug. Cat Noir is in love with Ladybug and would probably do anything he asks."
"Doesn't Ladybug reject his advances? And has done so very publicly."
"Yes but wouldn't it be a dream come true to have Ladybug reciprocate his feelings for once? He wouldn't be able to tell the difference."
Francis shrugged, "Alright. I'll give it a go." before he smirked, "I tended to be a charmer when I was in secondary school. I think I can say the right words to get him to give us his miraculous."
"Do what you must." Ludwig said, tone serious before he turned to care for the newly blossoming cocoons in the sanctuary.
Francis went to work on designing a costume for himself. A long blue peacoat with feathers on the sleeves and outer trim. He designed a mask similar to what would be worn at mardi gras or a masquerade ball . It was royal blue and came down to cover his nose, royal blue feathers were glued to a sapphire jewel that was glued to the corner, and fluffed upwards reminiscent of 20s flapper style hats.
He sent it to his tailor. When asked he said it was for a costume party that he would be frequenting in a few days.
Francis went to work rehearsing what he would say to Chat Noir to get him to let his guard down just long enough for Senti-Ladybug to get his miraculous. They had decided upon Sentimonsters to name the creations that were made using the Peacock miraculous.
And once he had a general script down he decided to practice making Senti-Ladybug. Francis said "transformez-moi" and a fan filled with feathers appeared in his hand. He let out a gasp; It still surprised him sometimes, how an object could just appear out of thin air.
Francis glanced at his wedding ring on his finger and decided he would use that to form Senti-Ladybug. It didn't take long for him to feel a bit of melancholy, having been shown the truth that his dear wife Ava was deceased instead of just having abandoned him. I shouldn't have let her go on that trip alone.
Francis grabbed a feather and clenched it together in his hands and squeezed his eyes tight. He let the feather go, only to feel a slight tingly feeling where his ring was.
He could feel after a few seconds, energy flowing around him, as though wind was blowing through his hair. When Francis opened his eyes, brown ones were staring back at him.
An identical copy of Ladybug had been made down to his shorter height, red hair, and katana that was strapped to his back, "Ladybug?"
"At your service, master." Senti-Ladybug bowed.
Francis felt a smirk forming on his lips, "That is nice to hear. Now do you have a way to contact that chaton of yours?"
Ladybug reached for the grappling clip that was at his side. He pressed the top and it opened like something akin to a pocket mirror. "I can call him from this."
"Oh bon! That is convenient." Francis said walking over to inspect the phone-like contraption. It was bright red and covered in black polka-dots. It had a screen on the top and the bottom had a keyboard, a button with a picture of a phone and a left and right arrow to scroll through a menu. Francis pressed the phone button and was greeted with a back paw print on the screen.
Hmm.
Curiosity getting the better of him he scrolled through to see that there weren't anymore to go to.
At least Ladybug can't get into contact with us.

When Francis got his costume back from the tailor a little later that day, he had Senti-Ladybug bring him to the Arc de Triomphe. It was frightening at first being up so high in the air. He clung to the polka-dotted Sentimonster. "Don't drop me Ladybug!"
"I won't." He said with finality.
"Now go get in your place." He said upon Senti-Ladybug letting him down. Senti-Ladybug nodded and ran to his place in front of the arc de triomphe. Francis hid behind one of its pillars, but was able to still see Senti-Ladybug.
Senti-Ladybug opened his grappling clip phone.
"Kuro Neko, it's urgent. I need you to meet me at the arc de triomphe." He said.
Francis imagined the feline superhero would rush over in a hurry.
"How did you find out we could talk on these things? I didn't know that! It would have saved so much time!" Francis was surprised he could also hear Chat Noir.
Francis frowned, "We don't have time for that now. I'll tell you when you get here. Please hurry." He said.
"Sorry my darling. Hold on, I'll be right there."
Ah young love, it warmed Francis's heart to see, but it saddened him that he would be manipulating the young man's heart for his own gain.
True to his word, Chat Noir showed up a few minutes later.
"Ladybug what's the emergency?" His eyes were wide. Senti-Ladybug approached the hero, a pout on his lips.
"I haven't seen you all day."
Chat Noir raised an eyebrow, "You just wanted to see me?"
Senti-Ladybug was only a few centimeters from him now, "We're always so distracted in our battles. I never get to just talk to you." Senti-Ladybug's cheeks were red as he clasped his hands together, abashed.
Chat Noir smirked and rested his hands on Ladybug's hips, "You know you didn't have to fake an emergency to get my attention, Ladybug."
Yes! No one can resist my charms. Francis smirked.
Senti-Ladybug covered Chat Noir's hands with his own and attempted to slide the ring down as he leaned upwards, "I-I just wanted you to get here quickly because I couldn't hide my feelings anymore."
And then he tightened his grip on Senti-Ladybug's hips before leaning down to whisper into his ear completely avoiding the other's awaiting lips, "You can't fool me, Hawkmoth."
Francis blinked, Quoi? I said everything he wanted to hear.
Chat Noir bit Senti-Ladybug's ear hard enough to draw blood. Senti-Ladybug in response kneed him in the stomach. Chat Noir stumbled backwards, coughing, before effectively dodging Senti-Ladybug's oncoming punch. Chat Noir punched Ladybug in the face before kicking Ladybug in the stomach.
Senti-Ladybug was knocked backwards.
"Hey! Ladybug and Cat Noir are fighting!" Someone yelled. Francis turned to see a blonde haired boy with blue eyes and glasses holding his phone to capture the fight.
"Could it be the fake Cat Noir again? We should help Ladybug, he seems like he's losing." Another boy who had platinum blond hair and violet eyes said.
"I-I don't think we should get involved." A boy with violet eyes, blond hair and glasses said.
"Do not worry Mattie, I will take care of it." The platinum blond said, ruffling the other's hair before he took off running past Francis.
Chat Noir had knocked Senti-Ladybug on the ground by now and was prepared to hit him with his baton when the platinum blond slammed into him at full force, knocking him to the ground.
"Ladybug get up!" He said as he held the now struggling Chat Noir. Senti-Ladybug blinked.
"Ivan what are you doing?!"
"Shut up! You are just one of Hawkmoth' s clones!"
"No! I'm the real Cat Noir! He's not Ladybug!"
"Yeah get him Ivan!" The blond with the phone cheered as a crowd started to form.
Senti-Ladybug got up and smiled, "Good work. He stole Kuro Neko's miraculous. I have to take it back from him, so hold him steady."
Senti-Ladybug approached as Chat Noir squirmed. Francis smiled. Senti-Ladybug reached down to grab Chat Noir's ring.
"What are you doing back here?" Francis felt his heart leap into his throat as he turned around to be face to face with the real Ladybug.
"L-Ladybug!?"
"Are you Paon?"
"Stay back!" Francis actually had no fighting skills. Should I still try to get his miraculous or try to get out of here?
Francis decided not to take any chances and ran. He was a lot faster than he normally was, apparently the miraculous gave him increased speed. He ran out and past the fight, unknowingly having willed Senti-Ladybug to freeze in his tracks because Ladybug had frightened him. Senti-Ladybug then targeted Ladybug.
"Huh!?" The blond known as Ivan said.
"Ladybug! Oh thank goodness. Ivan can you get off me now?"
"Sorry."
"Kuro Neko, go after the man wearing the blue peacoat. I'll take care of the clone." Francis heard Ladybug say. He turned back to see that now Chat Noir was following him.
Merde!
"Stop, you fiend!"
"Non!"
Francis felt his heart thump loud in his chest. It was pounding in his ears. Why did I agree to do this? Why? These heroes have almost 3 years of fighting experience and I have none. Why didn't I have a backup plan in case things went wrong?
Chat Noir was gaining on him. That was until he heard him groan, and Francis turned briefly to see that Senti-Ladybug had thrown Ladybug into him, knocking him to the ground. Francis kept running, going behind a few buildings, switching direction, until he was able to duck into an alleyway and hide in a trash bin while both heroes were distracted.
Francis snapped his fingers, and he felt the energy dissipate. Presumably Senti-Ladybug was gone. He sighed. Upon realizing he was sitting in garbage though, he sprung up, and tipped the can over. Francis groaned, and crawled out, swiping his hair of crumpled papers and old banana peels.
He changed out of the coat, folding it up and putting it along with the mask into a satchel he had under the coat.
Francis called for his driver Timo to come get him. He felt so vulnerable out in the open like this without Ludwig by his side, Timo, his stylists, his tailor, or any of the other people who he was around constantly. He was never in the streets of Paris alone. Hopefully no one would recognize him.
He looked out of the alleyway to see a familiar mop of blond hair, Arthur, who had a petit boy with raven colored hair wrapped around his arm. Francis knew that this boy certainly wasn't Feliks. He hadn't forgotten how horrible Arthur treated him the day they were supposed to go to the magic show, and how more recently he often lied to get out of their outings. Francis didn't recognize the boy, he knew he wasn't his other friend Gilbert either. Francis grit his teeth but didn't say anything, he had no explanation as to why he was in an alleyway anyway.
"Since we're here, why don't we go out for sushi?"
"Don't you need to get back?" The boy had some sort of an accent, maybe Japanese?
"I haven't seen Francis all morning. He probably doesn't even know I'm gone " Arthur shrugged.
"I haven't eaten lunch yet. So that is fine."
"And then you could feed me sushi with your chopsticks. I've seen it done in so many romance movies." He sighed wistfully.
The boy shook his head, "We're supposed to be just friends."
"Yes! Of course but friends do that for each other. Just one time, please?"
"What if someone sees? They'll ask questions."
"If they ask, I'll just say what I just said to you."
"Ok. But I don't know how you get me to agree."
"Because I'm irresistible." He purred, and Francis could see the mischievous look in his eyes. It was something he'd never seen from him before. But apparently from the other boy's blush, "It is possible." It was not uncommon for him to do so.
Soon they were too far to hear and Francis received a text from Tino that he was by the fountain. Francis rushed out the alleyway and towards the black limo that was waiting for him.
"I didn't even see you leave sir. Did you just want to take a walk around Paris?"
"Ah oui. I wanted to get a bit of a workout in, and I wanted to get a little inspired."
"Oui, I agree. The City of Paris is so beautiful. The butterflies have been plentiful this time of year."
Francis "hmmed" in response, knowing the real reason there were so many butterflies around.

When Francis got back he found Ludwig sitting in a chair, reading a book. It looked pretty worn but Franics didn't really care too much. He draped himself across Ludwig's lap in dramatics. Ludwig moved his book out of the way and looked down at him with furrowed eyebrows.
"Oh Ludwig, it was horrible! You didn't tell me I'd have to worry about those pesky heroes trying to fight me."
"I agree it was an oversight on my part. I shouldn't have put you out there with no fighting experience."
"I didn't even get Chat Noir's miraculous or Ladybug's." Francis pouted.
"That is fine. Do you have a theory about why Cat Noir didn't seem swayed by Senti-Ladybug?"
"I don't know. Maybe he doesn't like him anymore because he knows Ladybug doesn't have feelings for him."
"That could be possible. For some reason their dynamic has shifted. I noticed something like this happen before, right after Chat Blanc. But it seemed to go right back to how it was before, during the summer."
"You studied their interactions during fights?" Francis furrowed his eyebrows.
"They are my opponents. It would be in my benefit to study how they work together. Also, I took to watching a young man's videoblog. He had first hand interviews with the two heroes that the local news stations did not."
"I suppose so." Francis bit his lip, "A young man running a video blog? Did you ever try to contact him for more information? Maybe he knows their identities."
"No, I didn't want to risk you finding out my identity, sir."
"Well! We should contact him. I could make up some fake media contest." Francis sat up.
"I agree. You should also join me in combat training so you could learn some fighting techniques."
"One step at a time, Ludwig." Francis waved him off.
