Chapter 1: Smol
This chapter takes place after the episode "Maddie and Marcy"
About a week after Marcy's encounter with Sasha and Grime, Marcy was touching down in Wartwood to start her plans for the day.
A couple of days prior, Marcy came under the tutelage of the local curse user. A young frog named Maddie. After some trial and error involving reviving a dead flea, as well as shrinking Maddie's younger sisters after they made a half-baked growth curse, the two continued their training with the dark arts.
Today, was one of those days.
"Ok Maddie! I got everything we need!" Marcy said as she walked into the bakery. "You ready to do this thing?!"
"Yeah, gimme a minute!" Maddie said as she turned to her sisters. "Ok girls, gonna go do some witchcraft with Marcy. We'll play again later, ok?"
"Ok Maddie!" Rosemary said with a smile before the three of them began hopping away.
"It's great that the four of you are getting along better now." Marcy said with a smile.
"Yeah, it is… now come on! We have a job to do!" Maddie said. "Dad! We're off to practice the dark arts!"
"Just be home for dinner." Mr. Flour said as the two girls left.
"Will do!"
And with that, the two of them were running towards the forest.
"So, what's on the to do list today?" Marcy asked.
"Well, Loggle's been having an issue with termites recently… apparently someone let loose his stock in the shop a while ago, and they've been causing issues." Maddie explained.
The two of them shared a look, both wondering the same thing…
Who'd be dumb enough to unleash termites in a wood shop?
Also, why did Loggle even HAVE termites there?!
"Anyways, apparently whenever someone goes to try and take care of the problem, the termites go and hide in the walls, where they can't reach." Maddie continued.
"Huh… so we need to make a pesticide for termites?" Marcy asked.
"A what? No, that sounds dumb." Maddie said as they reached their work area. "We're doing something a lot simpler."
"And that is…?"
"Making a shrinking potion so someone can go in and take care of them!" Maddie said.
"… Alrighty then!" Marcy said excitingly.
And so, the two of them got to work, putting all the ingredients that Marcy had brought into a cauldron and mixing it all together.
After a bit of trial and error, a test had proven to be successful, as a tree stump shrunk to about half the size of Maddie's sisters.
"Whoo!" Marcy cheered as she put a cork into the bottle. "We did it!"
"Loggle is going to be pleased." Maddie said. "Let's go over there and deliver this, then get something to eat!"
"That's what I'm talking about!" Marcy said as she began to excitingly run towards town.
She completely forgot about the shrunken stump though.
Her foot collided with the stump, causing her to trip and launch the potion into the air in the process.
"AHHHHHH!" Marcy and Maddie screamed as the bottle went flying towards a tree branch.
They were surprised to see it bounce off the branch though.
"Phew…" Marcy and Maddie breathed in relief, but it was short lived as the bottle was now flying towards a nearby rock.
It bounced off the rock too, and was now bouncing between all of the trees and rocks in the area.
"… How durable is that bottle?!" Maddie asked.
"Hmmm… let me do some math." Marcy said as she pulled out her notebook
She was so caught up in her calculations, that she didn't notice the bottle was now launched straight into the air.
"Let's see here… judging by the speed the bottle is moving, and how much it has bounced around already… I believe that the bottle shall break…"
At that moment, the bottle landed on Marcy's head, breaking over it.
"… The next… time it… hits something…" Marcy said as she fell to the ground, stars in her eyes.
"You alright?" Maddie asked.
"Oh yeah… just need a minute…" Marcy said as she just laid there.
When she opened her eyes, she saw a very, VERY worried Maddie.
"Uh… you alright?" Marcy asked.
"Yeah but uh… well…"
At this point, Marcy was able to get to her feet, but she immediately knew something was wrong.
After all, Maddie normally didn't tower over her.
"… Shrinking Potion…" Marcy reminded herself, her voice now noticeably high pitched and squeaky.
"Well, this isn't good…"
"No no! It's fine! You can whip up an antidote no problem!" Marcy said. "In the meantime though, how's about you take me over to Loggle's to take care of his termite problem?"
"Ok… and while you're doing that, I'll get to work on the antidote." Maddie said.
"Perfect!" Marcy said as she used her crossbow to climb up onto Maddie's shoulder. "Now let's go!"
Before long, the two of them reached Loggle's shop, and Marcy went to work exterminating all of the termites while Maddie went back to try and figure out a cure.
After about a half hour of fighting off termites, which were a lot more terrifying at this size, Marcy was finally done with the job, and emerged from the hole in the wall, covered in slime.
Though, she wasn't expecting to see…
"Hey Loggle, have you seen Marcy around?" Anne asked Loggle as she walked into the shop. "Maddie said she'd be here."
"Oh yes, your 'little' girlfriend." Loggle said with a laugh.
Anne blushed at this. "She's not that small…"
"Oh I beg to differ!" Loggle said as he pointed to the ground at Marcy.
Anne turned around to see her currently incredibly tiny girlfriend.
"Heya Anna-Banana!" Marcy said, squeaky voice and all.
"… Marcy?!" Anne said as she rushed over and got on her knees. "What happened to you?!"
"So uh… Maddie and I were making a shrinking potion to help Loggle with his termite problem, and I may or may not of accidentally spilt it all on me…" Marcy said a bit embarrassed.
"Oh… so that's what Maddie was working on… wait, termite problem?" Anne asked.
"Oh yeah, it's been quite a problem since SOMEONE let loose my supply!" Loggle said, giving Anne a pointed look.
It didn't take Marcy long to figure out what that meant.
"Guess that solves that mystery!" Marcy said.
Anne then put her hand on the ground for Marcy to climb on before raising her up to her face.
"Well… you are suddenly a lot more adorable than normal…" Anne said with a smile.
This caused Marcy to blush.
"Oh come on Anne, I'm not that cute…" Marcy said as she looked away shyly.
"Oh brother…" Loggle groaned out. "You're finished the job, right Marcy?"
"Yes sir! Your termite problem has been taken care of!" Marcy said with a tiny thumbs up.
Loggle just used his microscope lens on his goggles to see what Marcy was doing.
"Well good. I'll be sure to send the money to the Plantar's to pay for your services." Loggle said.
"I thought we agreed that you didn't need to pay for this, and that it was just a good learning experience…" Marcy groaned out.
"Yes, for the shrinking potion." Loggle said. "Not for actually exterminating the termites."
"Oh… guess that makes sense…" Marcy said. "I guess Hop Pop would appreciate the extra money."
"Alright, since that's settled, let's get out of here and get you back to normal size!" Anne said as she placed Marcy on her head.
"Oh wow… your hair is… surprisingly soft."
"I may or may not of had some conditioner with me when we came here." Anne said as she walked out of the building. "Though the lack of a shower has been… rough."
"Oh I can imagine." Marcy said. "Thankfully we had showers in Newtopia."
"Yeah, the time we spent there I pretty much spent every night trying to repair the damage." Anne said with a laugh.
"Didn't do anything about the leaves and twigs though…" Marcy quipped as she struggled to pull a leaf out of Anne's hair.
"Trust me, they would just get replaced after like, an hour." Anne reasoned.
"If you say so…" Marcy said.
And with that, the two of them began making their way towards Maddie.
"Hey Maddie! I brought Ma-"
Anne suddenly ducked, avoiding a book being thrown in her direction.
"Sorry! Just… trying to get this done." Maddie said as she rubbed her temples.
"Uh, is there a problem Master?" Marcy asked.
"Well, I just can't seem to find the antidote…" Maddie explained.
"What?! I thought you already had a formula on deck!" Anne shouted.
"Yeah well…" Maddie said as she looked off to the side. "This is a commission I've had for a while and… the antidote was in my spell book and… well…"
"Well…?"
"My sisters probably tore it out when they were making that growth curse." Maddie explained.
"… Oh…"
"So… what now?" Marcy asked.
"Well, thankfully this curse has a time limit, and shouldn't even last a full day." Maddie explained. "So… just sit tight and stay safe I guess."
"Alright… guess I am using Anne's hair as a bed tonight." Marcy said as she snuggled in. "Not that I'm complaining."
"Just don't create any knots up there." Anne said with a slight laugh.
"You got it!"
"I'll continue to look into an antidote, but for now you should go home and just rest up for the night." Maddie said as she picked up another book.
"Gotcha. Well, let's go and meet up with the Plantar's in town." Anne said.
Then, Marcy got an idea.
"Hey Anne… I wanna try something." Marcy said with a mischievous smile.
"Hey Anne!" Sprig said as he hopped over to Anne who just came into view.
"Hey Sprig! How's Ivy doing?" Anne asked.
"Doing fine, doing that weird tea ceremony stuff with her mom again." Sprig said. "But her mom let her take a break to talk."
"Thats cool." Anne said.
"So where's Marcy?" Polly asked as she hopped over. "Didn't you say you were going to look for her?"
"Yeah, I guess I must of missed her." Anne said as she picked Polly up. "She's probably waiting for us back home, so let's go find her."
And then, Anne put Polly in her hair, a perch that Polly enjoyed on occasion.
"…Hey…"
"Huh?" Polly said in confusion at the new voice. "Anne, did you say something?"
"Nope, nothing." Anne said as she walked towards the wagon.
Polly just looked around, trying to find the source of the voice.
However, as much as she looked, she couldn't see anything out of the ordinary.
Just the normal leaves, twig, and Marcy's grinning face.
… Wait…
Polly's eyes quickly shot back to Marcy's face, which began grinning even wider.
"Heh, hair, am I right?"
"WAAAAAHHHHH!" Polly screamed as she leapt out of Anne's hair and onto the ground.
"Polly! Are you alright?!" Sprig asked.
Then, the group heard laughing coming from Anne's hair.
"Sorry Polly! I couldn't resist!" Marcy said as her face appeared.
"Marcy?!" Polly asked.
"Whoa! How did you get so small?!" Sprig asked.
"Potion making mishap, gonna be this size all day." Marcy explained.
"Ah, not like Maddie to mess up like that…" Sprig pointed out.
"Uh… I may or may not of tripped and dropped the potion onto myself…" Marcy squeaked out.
"Classic clumsy Marcy!" Everyone said at once.
"So, until it wears off, she's gonna be relaxing on my head!" Anne said.
"Which is really comfy by the way!" Marcy said.
"Well, let's get home where Marcy will be safe then." Hop Pop said as the group boarded the wagon.
Before long, they were safe at home, with Marcy just happily snuggling into Anne's hair.
Later that day, the group was sitting around the dinner table, with Marcy having to settle for just a single crumb to eat… a thought that while sad to think about, it was adorable to watch… after all, the crumb was about half of Marcy's size at the moment.
Afterwards, Anne was laying in bed, with Marcy laying back in her hair.
"So… what do you think is gonna happen to the food you ate when you go back to normal?" Anne asked.
"Well, either it will grow with me, or it will stay it's tiny size and I will be very hungry." Marcy explained with a laugh.
"I'll make sure we have some food ready just in case then." Anne said with a laugh.
"Right… so, I guess we should get some sleep huh?" Marcy asked.
"Yeah… good night." Anne said with a smile.
And with that, the two snuggled in, and began to fall asleep.
When Hop Pop went into the basement the next day to wake them up for breakfast, he was greeted by the sight of the two girls, now both normally sized, hugging each other as they slept the day away.
End of Chapter 1
I wanted this to start with the cutest thing I could think of. So, tiny Marcy… That's it.
I mentioned this when I announced these one shots, but none of these will have any major impact on the overall story of One Small Change or The Fourth Light. They are simply here to be fun short stories.
Speaking of, the next one is something I actually DID want to put into the main story, but I simply couldn't think of a good place at the time. It still doesn't have any impact on the story, but it is nice.
See you whenever I finish that!
