It was later that summer, around August. Drake and Carter had left early, Drake because he got an offer to be a doctor's apprentice and didn't want to miss out on it. Carter because he got a message from the college about an archeological visit to Egypt, one of the places he's been wanting to go to. Brock and Davis however were still around, enjoying their time in the hotel and not having a reason to leave until it was time to go to go back to school.

One night, they heard faint sirens coming from the village closest to the hotel.

"Goodness, what do you think is wrong?" Mavis asked concernedly.

"I don't know...it's too faint to tell whether they're from firetrucks or police cars." Ericka said.

"Sounds like firetrucks to me." Winnie said. "And I smell smoke too."

"Think maybe we should help?" Johnny asked.

"Well, they may have things under control but it wouldn't hurt to be there in case they need our help." Dracula said. "Everyone else stay here, it's a bit of a trip to the village if you can't fly and the sooner we get there the better."

So he, Ericka, Mavis, Johnny, and Dennis turned into bats and flew down to the village (Vlad was somewhere inside the hotel, and so didn't hear the sirens). They quickly found the burning building, and it was a good thing they decided to go see if the firefighters needed help. It turns out they did, one side of the building was so covered in flames that the firefighters couldn't get close enough with the safety net. And whoever was on the other side wouldn't jump down for some reason.

"Oh thank goodness you're here, could you fly up and help rescue the family?" The fire chief said.

"Of course, that's why we came." Dracula agreed. "Mavis, Johnny, you two rescue whoever is on that side, Ericka and I will see why the person on the other side won't jump down. Dennisovich, stay here; I don't want you getting hurt."

"Got it." Dennis nodded reluctantly.

Mavis and Johnny turned into bats, and flew up to see the parents weakened by the smoke and heat in their bedroom. They were able to pick them up and fly them down to safety before the roof collapsed.

Now, the reason why Dracula split them up that way was because Ericka was still new with her powers. She had gotten the hang of turning into a bat and flying, but carrying others and certain other powers were still tricky for her. So Dracula figured that handling the side with the fewest flames and smoke would be safest for her.

Dracula and Ericka flew through the window, and saw a boy - possibly ten or twelve - cowering under the window clutching a homemade teddy bear tightly.

"Are you okay?" Ericka asked.

The boy looked up, startled, but relaxed upon realizing that it was just Dracula and his new wife.

"Yeah, I'm just...sacred of heights." He admitted.

"Okay...tell you what, I'll fly you down so you won't have to jump. Just keep your eyes closed." Ericka said gently.

The boy gulped, but nodded and shut his eyes tightly. Dracula had used his magic to gather various belongings - books, knickknacks, and clothing mostly - and tie them in the boy's bedsheets. So he flew that down while Ericka flew the boy down. The boy was terrified during the flight, but it was over with in seconds so he quickly recovered and let out a sight of relief.

"How are my parents?" He asked.

"Well, we managed to save them before the roof collapsed..." Johnny paused awkwardly.

"But I'm afraid they're still in bad shape." One of the doctors who came with the ambulance added. "We'll need to take them to the hospital immediately. And we'd like you to come along, you seem fine but it's best we make sure."

"Of course." The boy nodded.

"Um, what should I do with his things?" Dracula asked, showing the bundle.

"Oh we have a storage room for patients, we'll just put it there." Another doctor said.

"Can you visit me and my parents tomorrow?" The boy asked the vampires.

"Of course." Dracula smiled.

"I'll come too." Dennis smiled. "My name is Dennis by the way."

The boy smiled, but he didn't have a chance to introduce himself because the doctors insisted on him entering the ambulance. They wanted him and his parents to be treated as soon as possible. The boy's things were placed in the fire chief's car, who followed the ambulance to the hospital.
