Chapter 5: Overthinking things (Big Author's note!)

This takes place just before the episode "The Third Temple"

ALSO! BIG OL' AUTHOR'S NOTE AT THE END! I HAVE A LOT TO TALK ABOUT!

Marcy, Anne and the Plantar's were all flying towards the third temple, ready to take on the challenges that it will surely send their way…\

However, Marcy seemed oddly quiet.

"Hey Marbles? You alright?" Anne asked suddenly.

"Huh? Oh yeah, sorry, just a lot on my mind." Marcy admitted.

"Oh, want to talk about it?" Anne asked.

Marcy sighed at this.

"Anne… you… you DO like me, right?" Marcy asked.

This, caught everyone's attention.

"Prrrreeeetty sure I wouldn't be dating you if I didn't!" Anne said. "Why? What makes you think I didn't?"

"I dunno… just, some thoughts I had…" Marcy said. "Honestly, part of me thinks I am just… not likable like that I guess."

"What?! Girl, you're crazy!" Anne said. "Seriously, I would NOT be dating you if I didn't actually like you!"

"I know I know… I just… needed to hear it." Marcy said with a sad smile. "Honestly though, it still feels unreal… us dating I mean."

"… Yeah, I know what you mean." Anne said as she looked out at the horizon, where Newtopia could be seen in the distance. "A while back, I wasn't sure if I would ever see you again… let alone actually start dating you…"

"Yeah… that too I guess…" Marcy said under her breathe.

"What do you mean 'that too?'" Sprig asked, having heard her.

"Oh! Uh…"

Everyone's questioning looks made her swallow thickly.

"So… I may or may not of been just a LIIIIIIITTLE worried that uh... Anne would like Sasha instead of me…" Marcy admitted.

"…Oh…"

"Yeah… kinda feels silly now." Marcy said sadly.

"… Marcy, do you want me to be honest?" Anne asked.

"… Yeah…"

"Ok… first of all, don't worry. I like you, not Sasha." Anne said. "Maybe, a while back, I did like her and I didn't even realize it… but after what happened at Toad Tower? I honestly can't picture myself ever falling for her right now."

Then, Anne put her hands on Marcy's shoulders.

"So please, don't worry about it."

Marcy smiled at this, before pulling Anne in for a hug.

"Thanks…"

"That being said, might be a good idea to talk to her about this." Anne said. "Get it all out in the open."

Marcy smiled at this.

"Maybe when you two make up."

"Deal."

And so, with the third temple in sight, Joe Sparrow went down for a landing, completely unaware of the two figures following them.

The End.

A nice, short one! But for good reason…

Truth be told, I initially wrote this as a way to get my thoughts on the new episode out there… and also to say that even IF Sashanne were to be the canon pairing, it won't affect this or any other stories I have planned for the future. It will always be Marcanne for me.

… Notice how I said initially though…

Truth is… after I planned out this story earlier today, I got thinking about a lot of things that were revealed in "The Beginning of the End" and honestly, I felt like I absolutely NEEDED to get all this out there, cause I will actually EXPLODE if I don't!

So, here we are at what will most likely be the LONGEST author's note I will ever make! So, here we go!

Spoiler warning for the new episode btw :)

So, let's get the elephant in the room out of the way first: The Sashanne stuff, particularly the dance…

NGL, My opinion on what the dance means is actually the opposite of what I think everyone else is saying…

Yeah, I don't think it actually means anything in terms of romance.

The whole theme about that episode was about forgiveness and going back to how things were before all this craziness happened. That is why they did that little nod toward Hop Pop.

The dance, really, was to show that Anne and Sasha were finally back to that point, back to how they were before they had that fight, and how they are able to do the things they did before without hating each other any more. After all, it was one of the few activities we saw them doing together before Amphibia that Anne seemed to actually enjoy herself.

So yeah, still saying it is platonic… could be wrong though.

OK! Now that that is out of the way, let's get to the meat of this!

THE WHOLE REASON WHY THIS CHAPTER IS CALLED OVERTHINKING THINGS! WHOOOOOOOO!

By the way, Spoilers for not only the episode, but this honestly might be spoilers for the rest of the series! If I am right on this stuff, then wow.

So, let's start with this, in the trailer for "All In" there is a part where we see Sasha, probably towards the end of a fight with Darcy, looking both shocked, and even confused about something.

Personally, I think it's safe to say that Darcy just told her something about Marcy that Sasha did NOT expect!

My theory is that they told Sasha exactly WHAT Marcy thinks of her.

In the recent episode, Darcy said, in terms of the idea of Sasha and Anne being friends with Marcy "I doubt you ever were!"

… But that comment wasn't directed at Anne, it was directed right at Sasha. And Sasha seemed very concerned about this… so, I think they will continue this whole thing during the fight.

So, this begs the question: What DOES Marcy think about Sasha exactly? What DOES Sasha make her feel?

Happiness? Sadness? Envy? Love even?

I'm gonna say it, the whole basis on this theory lies entirely on if I am right on this, and I have reason to believe I am.

The emotion that Sasha makes Marcy feel, is fear.

Now, not exactly fear of Sasha herself, but fear of what Sasha could actually mean for her.

Marcy and Anne have been friends since childhood, for sure longer than they were with Sasha. Then, all of a sudden, Sasha came into their lives.

And now, Anne seems to be drifting away from her. Having little interest in what Marcy enjoys, and more-so in what Sasha enjoys.

For now, let's just say this in a platonic sense… Marcy is afraid that Sasha will take Anne, her first and probably best friend, away from her.

All of those fears came to a head when she found out that she was moving.

If she moved away, then she probably thought that Sasha and even Anne would, before long, just completely forget about her.

She'd lose Anne, just like she feared.

As for why she did what she did behind their backs, she was probably afraid that they wouldn't really care too much about her moving away. Just kinda, shrug it off.

Let's fast forward a bit in the timeline, to New Wartwood.

Ever wonder just WHY Marcy wanted to make friends with everyone in Wartwood? I mean, she said that she just wanted to connect with the people who Anne cared about so much…

But if we consider what I've already said, it adds a bit more context to it.

Marcy might of just, not wanted to risk the same thing happening with what she thought was happening with Sasha. Theoretically of course.

Now let's get to an important part: True Colors.

Marcy breaking down when Andrias revealed the truth. It's obvious that Marcy felt VERY desperate at that time, for obvious reasons.

What we didn't know at the time though, was possibly the full meaning behind the line "I gave you this, I gave you EVERYTHING!"

At this point, she is talking specifically to Anne, Sasha having backed away, clearly upset with Marcy.

… So what did she mean by "Everything?"

She already pointed out that she gave Anne her relationship with Sprig, and by extension, the Plantar's, as well as the "fun" adventure they had…

So what did she mean by "everything?"

I saw a few people point this out, but maybe she meant "Her Everything." As in, Marcy gave up everything she had for Anne, to stay with her.

And now, for the part where things stop being Platonic.

In the episode "Olivia and Yunan" we see the two newts as well as Marcy have to face their worst fears.

Olivia had to face her fear of her mother being disappointed in her, but more specifically, her fear of her mother being disappointed in her for allowing the land to get so polluted.

That is why she turned into a hideous pollution monster.

Yunan had to face her fear of Grubhogs. More specifically, the fear that exists because one almost ate her arm…

That is why it turned into a giant, horrifying one with razor sharp teeth… and then a bunch more.

Now, if we take everything I have theorized into account… then it adds a lot of context to Marcy's fear.

At face value, it is simple: She's afraid of Anne and Sasha not wanting anything to do with her after what she did.

However, that doesn't explain why they merged like that…

The transformations of Olivia and Yunan's fears tied to the reason why they were afraid of these things…

So why was Marcy different?

Well, perhaps this is because of what I have said: Marcy's true fear is that Anne would leave her behind for Sasha…

That would explain why they fused together…

It explains why Anne's voice is the one you primarily hear after the fuse (At least, that's what I hear…)

It also explains why the logo on the shirt turned into a heart when they fused.

And that is why there was a prom flier in the background.

Marcy is afraid that if Anne were to date either of them, she would pick Sasha.

And THAT is what Darcy reveals to Sasha during their fight!

WHOO! So glad to get that all off my chest!

Am I right about any of this? Only time will tell! Do I hope I'm right? I mean, yeah, kinda. Marcanne baby! Whoo!

The only thing I can really say slightly contradicts what I said here, is that Marcy is still friendly with Sasha.

My best guess is just because, well, Sasha is Anne's friend, so she wanted to get along with her. There could be something else I'm not thinking of, but that's what I have now.

Darcy already revealed that it's doubtful that Marcy and Sasha were even friends, so there might not be anything more to it than that.

And before you say "What if she was also talking about Anne?"

I mean, do you really think Marcy WOULDN'T think of Anne as a friend when she was the only one of the two that actually cared about keeping Marcy from getting herself killed? I mean, this is further emphasized by Sasha saying "One of these day's she's gonna get herself killed."

Speaking of though, I do have one other theory, and while it ties into the previous one, I feel like it is a lot less likely…

What if Marcy was faking her clumsiness all this time?

I mean, theoretically, what if Marcy actually just tripped one day, and Anne fretted over her and was super worried about her? If she felt like she was losing that connection with Anne at the time, she might just start doing that on purpose to just… feel like Anne still cares about her.

If this were true, it would explain a couple of things.

Firstly, how her cape lit on fire in the Barbariant den when there wasn't any fire… she just did it to herself with whatever she used to light those fire arrows earlier in the episode.

It would honestly explain her time as the Chief Ranger.

I mean really, how the heck could someone THAT clumsy not only rise the ranks that fast, but also have an absolute perfect record on missions?

Well, what was different during that time?

Anne wasn't there.

So, she didn't really have a need to be super clumsy, so she didn't.

That being said, she still get's easily distracted, which is why she fell down those stairs, and all the "In the Zone" things we saw.

And think about it, did we see her be clumsy, AT ALL, while Anne wasn't around?

The only time we really see this is in "Olivia and Yunan", where she tripped a few times…

But, that could be written off as her still recovering from the impalement and not being on her feet for so long.

As for when Darcy tripped, there was a big wire right there that she probably didn't notice because her eyes were closed, and well, everyone has their off days.

And yeah! That's it… did I miss anything?

… Nope, I think that about covers it all!

Thanks for reading me ramble about all this, I am still holding out hope for Marcanne, but again, I'll keep going with the Marcanne content, even if it isn't the canon pairing!

See you all soon!

… Oh yeah, and I am TOTALLY using these ideas in future stories, even if I am wrong :P
