Chapter 3: Trent + Kira

Kira was back in Reefside. She had left for a while to pursue her music career. She got a record deal and has just released her second album. She actually wasn't planning on coming back so soon until she teamed up with other rangers when the Operation Overdrive rangers lost their powers. When she morphed again, she remembered her own team and all of their fights against Mesogog. Last time she saw Ethan, Dr. O, and Connor was at the 2005 Reefside High School reunion. Last time she saw Trent was...graduation. Had it really been that long? Trent didn't come to the reunion even though his art school is in Reefside which was surprising. Trent hadn't really talked to any of them since they graduated high school. She did have a crush on him, but never actually told him that. She thought for a while that those feelings might have gone away until she had talked to Tori during the team-up. Tori talked about how Blake was going back to Blue Bay Harbor for Valentine's Day and managed to get Kira to talk about Trent. That was when Kira realized she still has feelings for him. She called Dr. O to find out if he knew where Trent was living now. Unfortunately, he didn't. Luckily, he gave Kira Anton Mercer's number, and Anton Mercer knew exactly where Trent was living and gave her the address.

Now, here she was, standing outside of Trent's apartment on Valentine's Day. She raised her hand up to knock but hesitated. Why was this so hard? She knocked after a couple of minutes of hesitating. After she knocked, she heard footsteps from behind the door before it opened.

Trent wasn't expecting anyone to knock on his door. The only person who has ever come to visit him since he moved into this apartment was his father. He didn't tell his old friends where he was living now. When they were rangers, he felt isolated from the others because of his time being evil, even though they had told him that he was a part of the team. He always acted like he was ok when he really wasn't. He always got the feeling that Connor hated him, Ethan tolerated him, Dr. O let him on the team just because he had ranger powers, and Kira...he didn't know where he stood with her. His dad would always tell him that that wasn't true and that he should talk to the others again. He preferred to isolate himself from them. He still had nightmares about his time being evil and thought that it was better to stay away from the others.

He opened the door and was surprised by who was there. "Kira! Hey," he said.

"Hey," she said.

"What are you doing here?"

"Your dad gave me your address."

Trent was surprised that his dad gave Kira his address without asking him if it's ok. Then again, his dad has been trying to get him to talk to the others for a while now.

"Can I come in?" Kira asked since Trent wasn't saying anything.

"Yeah," Trent said and moved aside to let Kira in.

"This place is nice, but kind of small."

Trent shrugged. "It is just me here." He led Kira over to his couch and the two sat down.

They sat in silence. Neither of them really knew what to say. Kira decided to break the silence after a couple of minutes. "So, how has art school been going?" she asked.

"It's been good," Trent said. "I don't have much longer left. I've also worked with Carson Brady on a couple more comic books."

"I know," Kira said, and Trent looked at her confused. "I'm not someone who usually reads comic books, but I did read the ones that you worked on."

"You did?"

"Yeah. The drawings were really good. It was obvious it was you."

"How has your music career been going?"

"Good. I just released my second album."

"I know. I've bought both albums."

"You have?" Could they have really both been buying what the other one has worked on?

"Of course," Trent said. "I've always liked your music."

They sat in silence for a couple more minutes. "Why didn't you come to the High School reunion a couple years ago?" Kira asked.

"I was busy," Trent replied.

"We missed you."

Trent just nodded.

When Kira had called Anton Mercer, it sounded like he was worried about his son and was happy that one of them reached out to find out how Trent was which was actually concerning. Kira knew that the others had no way to contact Trent during this time either. Why did Trent cut himself off from his friends? "Is everything ok?" she asked.

"Of course it is," Trent said quickly. "Why wouldn't it be?" Trent didn't want to worry any of them because if one of them knew, all of them would know by the end of the day.

"It's just...none of us have really seen or talked to you for a few years. You never tried to reach out to any of us and your dad seemed happy that I was trying to find out where you were living. What's going on?"

"It's nothing."

"It's obviously something."

"Why did you come here after everything I've done?"

"Everything you've done?" Kira was confused. What could Trent mean by that?

"I hurt all of you when I was evil, yet you let me be a part of your team. I also kept that my dad was Mesogog a secret."

"Trent, being evil wasn't your fault. You didn't ask for that. And yes, you shouldn't have kept your father being Mesogog a secret, but I understand why you did. I forgave you for everything a long-time ago." Kira grabbed Trent's hand and looked up at him and saw the torment in his eyes. "You don't forgive yourself." Kira pulled Trent in for a hug. She didn't realize that all this time, Trent had still been blaming himself for everything he did while he was evil and keeping such a major secret from the team. "None of us blame you, Trent."

They broke apart after a couple of minutes and stared at each other before they kissed. Seeing each other again didn't just make Kira's feelings return. Trent realized how much he missed Kira being around. She always did manage to make him feel better about all the damage he caused when he was evil.

"You know, the others have been wondering how you've been too," Kira said.

"They have?" Trent asked.

"Yeah. How about we go grab something to eat and then go see them?"

"I'd like that, but what about us? What are we now?"

Kira grabbed Trent's hand again. "I'm willing to give us a shot if you are."

"I am."

They kissed one more time before leaving. Kira knew that it would take some work to fix the mental damage that was done to Trent from when he was evil but getting him reconnected with the others was a start and she would be with him every step of the way.
