Chapter 7: Tyler + Shelby

Shelby was finishing up her shift at the Amber Beach Dinosaur Zoo. It was kind of weird adjusting to it being a zoo instead of a museum, since they changed the timeline when they defeated Sledge. She did love dinosaurs, though, and the fact that she now works at a zoo instead of a museum allowed her to take care of dinosaurs. She was currently doing her last checks of all the dinosaurs before her shift was done.

"Got any plans for tonight?" Kendall asked. Shelby didn't even realize she had entered, so Kendall startled her, and Kendall noticed that. "Sorry."

"It's ok, Kendall," Shelby said. "Tyler is meeting me here and we're going to go out for Valentine's Day." Kendall and Shelby have a better relationship now than they did when Shelby first started working for her. Kendall now knows how knowledgeable Shelby is when it comes to dinosaurs. Shortly after they came back to their home and adjusted to the new timeline, Kendall offered Shelby the position of Assistant Manager which Shelby gladly accepted. Now, Shelby is Kendall's right hand woman when it comes to anything going on at the Dino Zoo. That's also why Shelby was now allowed to call Kendall by her first name.

"That's nice," Kendall said. "You two make a good match. Thank you for everything you've been doing to help out with the zoo lately. You make a good Assistant Manager."

"Thanks Kendall."

"You're free to go for the day. Have a good night."

"You too." Shelby went to clock out and then she went to the Dino Bite Café where Tyler said he would meet her. When she walked into the café, she saw Tyler waiting for her up at the counter where Riley and Chase were. Tyler quit working there shortly after they defeated Sledge and started working with his dad and going on adventures with him. Riley had just put in his two weeks' notice as he had just received a job offer that he couldn't pass up. Chase had no current plans to leave, so Kendall and Shelby were pretty sure he was going to be sticking around for a while.

"There's the new Assistant Manager!" Riley exclaimed when he noticed Shelby enter the café. That caused Chase to look towards the entrance and Tyler to turn around. Shelby continued walking over to them.

"How has your promotion been?" Chase asked.

"I've been enjoying it," Shelby said. "I get to work with dinosaurs all day. What job could be better?"

"Now if you guys will excuse us," Tyler said as he got up and proceeded to give Shelby a quick kiss on the cheek. "We have plans for tonight."

Tyler and Shelby left the zoo and started their night by going to dinner. They went to a fancy restaurant in Amber Beach that they've been to on multiple occasions for their dates. It became one of their favorite places to go when they went on a date. That might be because the others didn't disturb them there like they would any time Tyler and Shelby had a date at the Dino Bite Café. In hindsight, they probably shouldn't have tried going on a date there just because it was a familiar place. The main culprit of ruining that date was probably Chase, of course, and Riley did try to help, but he ended up making it worse. It wasn't until Kendall found out what was happening that their date started improving. Shelby was constantly thanking Kendall the next day, no matter how many times Kendall told her that it was no big deal. Shelby got back at Riley and Chase the by making them clean up dinosaur poop. Yes, they hated that and promised not to go near another one of Tyler and Shelby's dates. Shelby enjoyed the perks of being the Assistant Manager.

They sat down and ordered their food.

"You seem to be enjoying your new promotion," Tyler said to Shelby once the waitress left.

"I am," Shelby said. "I never thought that Kendall would promote me to Assistant Manager when I first met her, and I also never thought we would be such good friends as we are now."

"She just needed to warm up to you and our power ranger adventures helped with that."

"Yeah. Now, we've kind of become best friends which feels weird saying it out loud. I do like how much our working relationship has improved since I first started working for her". Shelby thought they spent enough time talking about her and what's been going on at the zoo. "What about you? What kind of adventures have you been going on with your dad?"

"We've been finding dinosaur bones sometimes," Tyler started. "Other times, we're looking into stories people have of strange creatures. Luckily, we have our energems in case we get into any trouble."

"If you get into any trouble, you better call me," Shelby warned, and Tyler knew that he would be in trouble if he didn't call her if he got into trouble. He could read that all over Shelby's facial expression. Shelby's facial expression softened a little. "I just don't want you getting hurt because you and your father stuck your noses into something dangerous."

"I know," Tyler said and reached across the table to grab Shelby's hand. "I promise that I'll call you if we run into any trouble, but please relax. My dad and I have been very careful."

"I know. I just can't help but to worry. Not knowing where you are all the time because you're going on all of these adventures, it makes me worry."

"I know. I'll try to tell you where we're going more. Will that help at all?"

"That'll probably help a little. When you're going on one of your adventures, can you also give me a call every day to let me know that you're ok?"

Tyler nodded. "I can do that. I just want you to know that whatever I do and wherever I go, I will always come back to you."

Shelby smiled at Tyler. Yes, she did worry about him a lot, but she knew that Tyler meant when he said that he will always come back to her. Their food soon came, and they ate up and went to see a movie. Tonight, she didn't need to worry about him. That could wait until he went with his dad on another adventure.
