The next day, Murray, Amina, and Hana left on the trains with the artifacts to return them to the museum. Everyone else stayed behind, since Murray, Amina, and Hana promised to return once everything is settled.
Once they reached Cairo they continued on to the museum. Officials took them to the curator's office.
"On behalf of the museum I would like to thank you for returning the stolen artifacts." The curator smiled. "And-" He then noticed Amina. "You...look familiar."
"It's me, Amina Arafa."
The curator was shocked.
"What happened?" He asked.
"Her ex-boyfriend insulted me, and then shot her when she stood up for me." Murray explained. "Anubis brought her back as a mummy."
The curator looked horrified then regretful.
"I am so sorry I fired you over the robbery. You helping to return the artifacts and getting killed in the process more than proves your innocence." He said.
"Oh I have no grudge against you, after all that jerk was only dating me so that he could get the info he needed to rob the museum." Amina shrugged. "So it's understandable that you thought I helped them out."
"Even so, you have been one of the best employees this museum ever had." The curator said. "And I would love it if you accepted your old job back, though I understand if you don't want to."
"You kidding? The job I had here was one of the best parts of my life." Amina smiled. "I'd love to go back to working here. Even for eternity, since living mummies are at least long-lived if not immortal. Besides, you're going to want my help in keeping Egyptian history accurate." She then grinned. "After all I will be meeting and spending time with a lot of living mummies, especially the ones from Ancient Egypt like Murtadanis here."
"Murtadanis?" The curator cried, turning to Murray. "As in the same Murtadanis who sacrificed his life for Shafiq?"
"The one and the same." Murray smiled. "You can call me Murray though."
"Goodness..." The curator was stunned; it was one thing meeting a celebrity, but meeting a dead celebrity was overwhelming. "Well...after your sacrifice and the fact that you helped return the artifacts you definitely deserve a reward. Anything you want."
"Nah, I don't need anything. After all I finally found my true love, or zing as monsters put it, and that's rewarding enough." Murray smiled, putting an arm around Amina.
"Well...congratulations to you both." The curator smiled.
"Actually I really came here to offer the items from my tomb as a donation." Murray explained. "I hardly use them and I'd like them to be as close to Shafiq's things as possible."
"Of course, we never turn down donations. Artifacts or otherwise." The curator nodded before chuckling: "Though that may change after we run out of room, if we ever do."
You see after monsters and humans reconciled more living mummies started to visit the surface, and gradually decided to donate the items from their own tombs to help increase knowledge of Egyptian history. The owners of the museum decided to add new stories to the building once that started happening; it was now three stories higher than the one in our World, and gradually increasing.
"Would you like me to send a museum truck with you on the way to your tomb?" The curator then offered.
"That would make it easier to bring everything here." Hana noted.
Murray and Amina agreed.
Once they entered the tomb, Murray decided to go through everything before deciding whether it should be donated or not.
"Um...where are your canopic jars?" Hana asked awkwardly after seeing that those special organ jars were missing.
"Oh, I took them to my new home in the Land of Mummies." Murray shrugged. "Wasn't comfortable having them far away from me."
"I can understand-" Amina then winced. "Oh no...what happened to my organs when Anubis turned me into a mummy?"
"I'm pretty sure they were just turned into phantom versions of themselves." Murray shrugged. "When someone is turned into a living mummy they're given phantom versions of the organs they're missing. That way they can still eat and breathe. That's why I call us living mummies instead of mummy monsters like some people might."
"Oh, good." Amina said with relief.
"Now let's see..." Murray went back to going through his tomb items. "Hey, these scrolls contain stories- I recognize them! They were my favorite stories when I was a kid!" He grinned. "I'd better hang on to these, I'm going to want to read them again."
"Um...Murray...I think you had a pet when you were alive." Hana suddenly noticed.
"Really- Oh yeah, I remember. A monkey named Adil." Murray smiled. "He was always a well-behaved little guy-" He then realized: "Oh...of course."
He turned to Hana, and saw Adil's sarcophagus.
"Gee...now that I remember him I miss him." Murray said sadly.
"I can fix that." Anubis appeared out of nowhere, causing Hana to give out a shriek. "Sorry about that."
"It's okay." Hana calmed down.
Anubis then used his staff to bring out the mummy of Adil and bring him to life.
"Pets should be with their owners after all." Anubis smiled, hinting that he had done this before.
Murray grinned as he remembered that lots of living mummies did always have mummy pets with them. The only exception was when they went up to the human realm, since the mummy pets usually weren't comfortable leaving the Land of Mummies.
Adil, upon realizing that he was alive (in a sense), looked around with confusion...and then let out a screech of joy upon seeing Murray and recognizing him. Adil rushed over and leapt onto Murray to give him a hug.
"Looks like he missed you." Amina smiled.
"Very much, in fact the poor thing died of a broken heart upon seeing Murtadanis dead." Anubis admitted sadly.
"Aw Adil..." Murray said sympathetically, returning the hug.
After that reunion, everything else was packed up in the van and brought to the museum. Fortunately it turned out that there was a space next to Shafiq's mummy and items, so Murray's sarcophagus and items were placed there.
"Hey Shafiq, it's Murtadanis." Murray smiled quietly to Shafiq's sarcophagus after he and Amina went over. "Stop blaming yourself for my death okay? I'm just glad you were able to live a full life. Besides, I love my new life as a living mummy. I have a lot of friends who I always have fun with, and I even found true love. This is Amina, she works here. She got shot standing up for me when this jerk was insulting me, so she was brought back as a mummy."
Murray and Amina spent most of the day talking to Shafiq's mummy, even though they knew that he couldn't respond.
"We can't stay here forever of course, but we promise to visit often." Murray finished.
"You'll especially see me often since Murray wasn't kidding about me working here." Amina smiled.
And they did visit constantly, at least when they weren't at the hotel. Yes, Amina was able to come to the hotel frequently and stay there for a long time. It turns out that the curator automatically gave her tenure, so she had no reason to worry about losing her job again. Although she was pressured a little to not leave the museum so often, but only because visitors ended up considering her their favorite museum employee. The kids especially wanted to hear stories about the Land of Mummies and how she met Murray and ended up with him.
Of course Amina couldn't tell them much about the Land of Mummies at first due to not living there at all. Instead of moving there Amina preferred to stay in her old apartment so that she could remain close to Hana.
Murray didn't mind since he got to spend plenty of time with Amina at the hotel, while Hana couldn't leave work as much. Besides, he decided that after they get married he would move in with her anyway.
A.N. The marriage itself didn't happen until two years later during spring, so that story will be saved for the oneshot series.
