Chapter 4
After the teams at Beacon were formed, and everyone got a chance to get to know everyone, class was soon approaching.
Team RRWBY met early in the morning to participate with Rosa in early morning exercises. After an hour, Rosa stood next to her teammates and smiled.
"That was a great warmup everyone." Rosa said with a smile on her face. She looked at her teammates, all gasping for air and water.
"HOW?" Ruby said, pointing at Rosa, trying to understand her teammate. Rosa smiled looking at her team.
"This is only a fraction of the exercises that Master Maku does." Rosa said. All her teammates looked at her with shock.
"How?" Blake asked.
"I guess Jedi have higher levels of stamina than the regular person… but I consider what I do to be not that bad." Rosa said.
Yang started to get up and had to grab Rosa's shoulders.
"You're a masochist." Yang said.
"Last time I was called a sadist." Rosa said with a smile on her face.
Weiss looked at her but felt all her muscles scream at her to stop moving. She looked back down.
"I guess I went a little overboard." Rosa said. "We can continue this later. Looks like I need to get you all back to our room."
Team JNPR walked onto the field and Rosa grabbed onto Weiss and Blake. Yang helped Ruby. Rosa turned to team JNPR and smiled at them.
"Good morning." Rosa said.
"What happened to them?" Jaune asked.
"I started giving them some exercises. Looks like they need a bit more time before they'd be able to handle that." Rosa said. Pyrrha smiled and remembered her the day before.
"Don't go too hard on them. You still need your team to be able to function." Pyrrha said.
"Yeah, I get it. I'll lower the exercises for them from now on." Rosa said.
Rosa laid them all down on their beds. She smiled as she went to the kitchen and started making them all breakfast. All of them smelled it, and eventually, they all got out of bed and went to the common room. Rosa started giving them the food.
"Today, we got to finish setting up the room, then tomorrow we start classes." Rosa said.
"Where did you learn to cook?" Yang asked.
"On missions. It was one of the most important skills. Especially when the gangsters think of you as only a woman." Rosa said. "Sexist bastards, but I had to play the part."
"You're a good cook." Blake said.
"Thank you. I learned to love to cook later. It took a while for me to love it, but I learned a form of moving meditation when cooking. Some Jedi have their machines, while I have flour and eggs." Rosa opened the oven and took out croissants.
"You… really didn't need to do all this." Ruby said.
"Consider it an apology for not knowing your limits." Rosa said.
"How did you get to Beacon anyway?" Weiss asked.
"Well… My master and I were on a ship when it crashed in the woods. We were picked up by Ozpin and he understood what it meant to be a Jedi, so he offered a spot for me." Rosa said.
The teens finished up and furnished their room. Rosa helped them make the bunk beds and smiled as they finished setting up the room.
The four stepped back and looked at the effort. They gave a thumbs-up and turned to Rosa.
"Thanks… even though we couldn't get your bed in this." Ruby said.
"I'm okay where I am. Now what?" Rosa asked. The girls looked at each other. They each shrugged.
Rosa took out her decks of paazak and sabacc. She smiled as she got her teammates to play the game, having to be the referee for the first few matches. Then she took out more decks of cards to add to the pile and smiled as her team began getting closer. Then she took out dice and smiled at her teammates.
"Ever played Liar's Dice?" She asked.
"Of course!" Yang said. Blake had a smirk. Rosa turned to Weiss, and she smiled.
"Ruby? You ever played?" Rosa asked.
"Dad didn't want me playing those kinds of games after Uncle Qrow taught me Poker." Ruby said. Yang laughed.
"You wouldn't believe it, but Ruby cleaned out everyone. She was banned because she got in trouble at school. Uncle Qrow was in a lot of trouble for that one." Yang said.
"So, let's get started." Rosa said, after explaining the rules to Ruby. She pulled out a massive bag of dice and started playing.
After a few hours, and once again, with Rosa winning, Weiss stood up.
"I'm getting a call." She said. She went to her bedroom and answered the call from her father.
"Hello, Weiss." Jacques said.
"Hello, Father."
"Have you gotten into that school?" Jacques said. Rosa felt fear rising in Weiss. She turned to the others and felt their joy.
"I have father."
"Good. And you are the leader are you not?" Weiss' fear and anxiety rose up.
"I'm… not the leader, father." Jacques was silent for a few moments. Weiss felt a bit grow in her stomach. She didn't know what to do.
"That is a disappointment." Weiss nearly dropped her phone, remembering all the times Jacques called her and Winter a disappointment. "I was hoping you would have what it takes to lead… Who is the leader?"
Jacques demanded. Weiss took a breath.
"Her name is Ruby Rose. She was allowed to skip a few years to get into Beacon. She has exceptional skill."
"Enough skill to become the leader. We'll talk about this later. Remember to keep up on your studies." Jacques ended the call. Weiss dropped to her knees and looked at the floor.
"Dammit…" Weiss said, tears coming down her face. "A disappointment. I have to be better. Yes, better than Ruby."
Weiss got up, wiped away the tear, and calmed herself. She entered the common room and sat back down.
"Weiss, welcome back. We're playing another game." Ruby said.
"I… need to go out to pick a few things up." Weiss said. Rosa stood up and walked next to her.
"I'll join you."
"I… don't need help with this." Weiss said.
"I got a few things I need to pick up too." Rosa said.
"Okay…" Weiss said.
As they left the dorm, Ruby decided to take out a deck of cards herself.
"Anyone wants to play poker?" Ruby asked
"Yeah, you're on." Yang said.
As Rosa and Weiss walked through the streets of Vale. Weiss could barely look at Rosa.
"Weiss, what's wrong?" Rosa asked.
"What makes you think anything is wrong?" Weiss asked.
"Well, when you got that phone call, you got afraid. Is there something going on?" Rosa asked.
"My father just told me about another train of our dust being stolen." Weiss said.
"It must be hard to live with your name. Being born with so many eyes and enemies."
"It's not so hard when you get used to it."
Weiss stopped in front of a coffee house. She entered and went to the clerk. The clerk showed them the different coffee beans they had to offer. Weiss looked at them all.
"Do we have a grinder at the dorm?" Weiss asked Rosa.
"I don't think so." Rosa said.
"Then… we'll get that." The clerk nodded his head, and got one of the grinders they were selling, and Weiss pointed out four different bags.
"Will that be all?" The clerk asked.
"Yes, here." She handed him her card. They left with the goods.
"I didn't know you knew your stuff about coffee." Rosa said.
"Are you disappointed?" Weiss asked.
"No, in fact, it will help everyone. Someone who can get us our morning cups." Rosa smiled. Weiss looked away from her.
"I need to pick up some dust." Rosa said.
"I can help with that." Weiss said. They entered unto one of the Dust shops and she flashed the Schnee emblem. The owner smiled and brought out the best dust in cases.
"Alright Rosa, choose what you need." Weiss said. Rosa looked at all the dust.
"Here we go." She picked up wind dust and handed it to Weiss.
"Just this?" Weiss asked.
"I guess I could use some gravity dust as well." Rosa picked up the dust. Weiss paid for them, and they were secured. As the two women were walking down the streets, they were stopped by two men.
"Look at this. Two pretty young ladies… who look well off."
"We won't hurt either of you, you just need to give us all your valuables." The other thug said. Rosa rose her hand and used the force to grab one of the thugs. She tossed him into the other thug.
"What are you doing with your lives?" Rosa asked with disgust. She tossed at them a handful of bills and looked at them.
"Get off the streets, because if you ever try something like that again, I'll end you." Rosa said. The thugs grabbed the bills and ran off.
"You just threatened to kill them." Weiss said.
"Of course, I would. Men like them can only change when they think they're staring death in the face. But they were also looking at you… and I wasn't going to stand for that." Rosa said.
"…Thank you." Weiss said. "But I'm not weak. I can handle myself."
"Yeah, but your hands were full. And I needed to teach them a lesson." Rosa said.
They returned to the apartment, entering to see Ruby had a massive smile on her face.
"Welcome back. You're looking at the undefeated poker queen." Ruby said.
"It shouldn't have been possible… we added cards, shuffled ourselves, teamed up… there was no way it should have been possible. She beat us every time." Yang said.
"Never again…" Blake said.
"Come on we can play another game." Ruby said.
"NO!" Blake and Yang yelled in unison.
"Seems we didn't miss much." Rosa said. Weiss went to the kitchen and put together the grinder. The words of her father rang in her head. She needed to be the best. The best. That was her mission above all else, to be the best.
Rosa dreamed once more. Early in the clone wars, she was sent to infiltrate a separatist world and gather intel. A simple mission.
"Rosa, it's imperative that we aren't discovered. But if we are, here." Maku handed Rosa a transponder.
"Master?"
"We're going to have separate submissions. If I ever call you from here, assume it's the worst. Don't try to save me." Maku said.
"What could there be here?" Rosa asked.
"Promise me." Maku said.
"Alright, I promise you."
"Good. Tomorrow we're meeting up with our source. After that, I don't know how many of our objectives will match up… but we're going to do the job." Maku said.
She remembered it all. She became a loyal separatist as her cover. She went to the local meetings and was quickly offered a position in an insurgency group that would be planted in one of the Republic planets. She was given information about the weapons they were smuggling and their smugglers.
But she also learned that not all separatists were evil. They were just misguided by the actions of corrupted leaders. No leader she had met was what she called a good or even decent person. They fed lies about the Jedi and the clones. They called the Jedi warmongering hypocrites who wanted to suppress the galaxy under their thumb. And they called the clones the unknown white plague that had spread across the galaxy in unknown numbers. They didn't know that the clones could be funny and kind.
But she also knew that the clones were lab-made warriors. Deadly and accurate, people did have a right to fear what they could be, but not what they were. They were more complex than what everyone said they were.
She wished people would understand the clones, but she knew that wasn't going to happen. Everything had gotten to a point where no one on the other side would even look at the others as people.
"Alice, are you coming to the diner tonight?" One of the male separatists asked her.
"Sorry Tai, but I just can't. I got to work."
"I already asked your boss if you were working today… so why lie to me?" Tai asked. He got in close to her, blocking her off from the road.
"Tai, I already told you… I'm not interested in you like that." Rosa said as Alice.
"I've seen the looks you've given me. I'm handsome, rich, powerful, strong… I'm the whole package. And look at you Alice, smart, beautiful, kind… and sexy." Tai said. Rosa had to try to not squirm. She felt his emotions. He wanted her body. She wondered why there were so many men who just wanted her for sex. She really didn't get the appeal.
"Tai, please… you're being inappropriate." Alice said.
"Well, if you get inappropriate, we can enjoy it together."
A B-1 battle droid squad walked passed and Tai looked away, letting Rosa slip under his arm. She walked as fast as Alice could.
"Hey! Alice!" Tai started following her. She turned a corner and Tai was following her. She bumped into another man, who looked past her to see Tai.
"Devmar… what are you doing here?" Tai said.
"It seems like you're trying to get someone with no interest in you. You remember why you got sent to this backwater right?" Devmar said.
"Fuck you." Tai said.
"That's your problem, you think because you're rich and powerful that any woman would want you. She obviously doesn't." Alice turned around.
"I've tried telling you Tai, but you don't listen. You think with that tiny excuse for a dick and mess everything up." Alice said.
"Bitch." Tai said.
"What were you planning if I said I wanted it? To take me back to your apartment, fucking me, then tossing me aside because I was 'easy'? I know what you did to Alaia. You ruined her. You even got her pregnant. How many kids do you think you have?" Alice asked.
"I have no kids. All those women got some other guy to knock them up after I finished with them. They all lied to get my money." Tai said.
"Exactly." Devmar said. "You make a mess and make everyone else pick it up."
"I don't need to take this from you." Tai pulled out a blaster and before Alice could do anything, he shot Devmar. Rosa felt him die. Then Tai grabbed Rosa's hair and pulled on it. She let out a gasp of pain, then he put the blaster to her face.
"No witnesses." Tai said.
A droid turned the corner and held its blaster up to Tai.
"Hands where I can see them."
"Damn droid." Tai said. "I caught this woman who just murdered my friend. I was going to kill her, but now that you're here, I think you should."
Tai let go of Alice, and she dropped.
"He killed Devmar." Alice said.
"She's trying to say I killed my friend." Tai said.
"There's a camera right there." Rosa pointed out the camera, and Tai looked back at her. He quickly shot the droid, and she pulled out a knife she had in her sleeve. She slammed it into Tai's ankle. He dropped to the ground, and she brought her arm down on his arms, breaking them. She picked up the blaster and shot Tai.
It wasn't a pleasant memory. Not many of her memories were.
She woke up, shaking off that memory. She went out to do her exercises and meditated in her room, waiting for everyone else.
Weiss was the last to wake up, but she was quick to change, and eat the breakfast that Rosa made.
"What class do we have first?" Yang asked
"At 9 we have…" Ruby said, just finishing brushing her teeth.
"9! Damn! It's 8:55!" Weiss said.
Everyone looked at the clock and dashed out of the common room. Team JNPR opened their door and rushed out. Rosa turned around and used the force to close the doors. They ran across the campus with Ozpin and Glynda watching them.
"Sorry, we're late!" Rosa yelled. Ozpin just drank his coffee.
They barely got into the class when the professor stepped in. The walls displayed various Grimm and a giant weapon sat mounted on the wall.
"Welcome everyone to the first day of the semester." Professor Port said, then he introduced himself.
"Welcome everyone to Grimm studies. Here, I'll show you how to identify, and kill Grimm. Our greatest threat to life. Monsters! Demons... Prowlers of the night! Yes, the creatures of Grimm have many names, but I merely refer to them as prey! Ha-ha!" Port tried to get people to laugh, but no one did. Rosa looked around.
"Alright, tough crowd this year."
Weiss was ready to take notes. Ruby was making a drawing of Port.
"And you shall too, upon graduating from this prestigious academy! Now, as I was saying: Vale, as well as the other three kingdoms, are safe havens in an otherwise treacherous world! Our planet is absolutely teeming with creatures that would love nothing more than to tear you to pieces! And that's where we come in. Huntsmen! Huntresses..." He winked at team RRWBY. "Individuals who have sworn to protect those who cannot protect themselves! From what, you ask? Why, the very world!" A student stood up with a cheer. He sat back down.
"That is what you are training to become. But first: A story. A tale of a young, handsome man... Me! When I was a boy..." He started telling stories of when he was young, but Rosa couldn't help but stop listening. Rosa looked over at Ruby making a drawing of Port and smiled. Weiss shot her a glare. Rosa didn't get it. This class was rather boring, so why was Weiss being so… dedicated to it.
"In the end, the Beowolf was no match for my sheer tenacity, and I returned to my village with the beast in captivity and my head held high, celebrated as a hero! The moral of this story? A true Huntsman must be honorable! A true Huntsman must be dependable! A true Huntsman must be strategic, well-educated, and wise! So, who among you believes themselves to be the embodiment of these traits?"
Ruby had goofed off every time Port stopped monologuing to take a breath, and it was getting on Ruby's nerves. Rosa felt the frustration building up as the lesson continued till Port asked the question.
"I do, sir!" Weiss stood up, shooting her hand in the air.
"Well, then, let's find out! Step forward and face your opponent!"
Weiss stepped forward, and looked at the cage, with a Boarbatusk thrashing in it. It let out a squeak and glared at Weiss. She took a deep breath and held her weapon close. Yang and Ruby cheered Weiss on, being a bit louder than was necessary. Rosa smiled and gave Weiss a thumbs up.
"Don't make an embarrassment of yourself."
"Ruby! I'm trying to focus." Weiss said. Ruby stopped yelling, and Yang looked at her sister.
"Did… something happen between you two?" She asked her little sister.
"Not that I know of." Ruby said.
Rosa watched Weiss. She had lost a lot of her confidence. Weiss felt a crushing pressure on her.
"What's going on in her head?" Rosa asked. Blake looked at Rosa, then back to Weiss.
"What do you feel?" Blake asked. Port let the Grimm go.
"I felt fear, embarrassment, and pressure." Rosa said as Weiss sidestepped the Grimm. She slammed her weapon into the ground, and shards of Ice dust rushed forward. The Grimm curled up in a ball and spun out of the way of the Ice.
"What's making her feel that?" Blake asked. Weiss blocked the rolling attack. She had to step back and brought her knee into the Grimm. It landed on the ground, and moved its tusks to the side, knocking Weiss' weapon out of her hand. Weiss turned and kicked it in the eye and grabbed her weapon.
"Hang in there, Weiss!" Ruby yelled. Weiss shot a glare at her and turned back to the Grimm. She created a glyph on the ground that slowed down the Grimm. She used fire dust on it, the fire slamming into the Grimm. She let out a breath as it stood up and let out a shout.
"The underside Weiss! That's its weak spot!" Ruby shouted.
"Stop telling me what to do!" Weiss yelled. Ruby stopped, looking hurt, and Yang looked mad. Weiss turned back to the Grimm barely in time to get hit by it. She slid backward and slammed her weapon into the ground. She activated the lightning dust and rushed and used her glyphs to move faster. She brought up her hand, and a blue glyph came up, stopping the Grimm. She thrust her blade through it, and let out a breath she was holding in. She didn't look at her teammates. She was glad she was fighting, otherwise, the red on her face would have been obvious.
"Bravo! Bra-vo! It appears we are indeed in the presence of a true Huntress-in-training! I'm afraid that's all the time we have for today. Be sure to cover the assigned readings, and... stay vigilant! Class dismissed!" Weiss rushed off without her team.
"What's wrong with her?" Yang asked angrily, going to Ruby.
"I think there's more to this than she's showing us." Rosa said.
"I don't care. Ruby was doing her job as the leader and she just… argh!" Yang said.
"I'll go talk to her." Rosa said, getting up.
"Fine, but I want her to apologize to Ruby." Yang said.
"No Rosa, I'll find her. I'm the leader after all." Ruby said.
Ruby ran off, leaving the rest of her team behind. Due to her semblance, she was able to catch up to Weiss quickly.
"Weiss?"
"What?!" Weiss snapped.
"What's wrong with you? Why are you being-?" Ruby started.
"What's wrong with me? What's wrong with you? You're supposed to be a leader, and all you've been so far is a nuisance!" Weiss said.
"What did I do?" Ruby asked
"That's just it - you've done nothing to earn your position! Back in the forest, you acted like a child, and you've only continued to do so!" Weiss said, getting red.
"Weiss, where is this coming from? What happened to all the talk about 'working together'? I thought you believed in acting as a team." Ruby said. Weiss looked away for a second then closed her eyes. She looked back at Ruby, anger in her eyes evident.
"Not a team led by you. I've studied and trained. And quite frankly, I deserve better. Ozpin made a mistake." Weiss said. When she saw how hurt Ruby was, she clenched her fist and ran away.
"Hmm... Now that didn't seem to go very well." Ozpin said, appearing behind Ruby.
"Is she right? Did you make a mistake?" Ruby asked, almost crying.
"That remains to be seen." Ozpin said with a smile.
Rosa knew Ruby wouldn't have been enough.
"Sorry Ruby…" Rosa said ignoring her leader's orders.
"Stupid!" Weiss' voice rang out. Rosa became quiet, and move slowly, trying to make sure Weiss didn't hear her. She was crying. Rosa felt… self-hate. A massive amount of it.
"You let Ruby get under your skin. How pathetic can you be? Father's right. You're worthless! No, worse than worthless. He was right, you can't do this. Why do you have to be so stupid?" Weiss grabbed her head holding on to her hair. Rosa wanted to step in, but she knew it wasn't the right time yet.
"You're a failure. You could barely defend yourself from that tiny Grimm while Ruby killed that nevermore. How pathetic can I be? I let myself get disarmed. Winter never would. I let my emotions take over. I yelled at Ruby. She's a child, and you yelled at her because she made you made, pathetic! Disappointment! Embarrassment! You're not fit to be a Schnee. Father was right." Weiss continued to cry. Rosa realized everything. That call she got must have been from her father telling her she was a disappointment.
"They're going to hate you and you deserve it. You're not perfect! It's better to be dead than what you are. Everything bad that happens is because of me…" Weiss said. Rosa took a breath and stood in front of Weiss. Her face was red and tear-stained. She tried to hide her face, but Rosa hugged her.
"Weiss, shut up!" Tears came down Rosa's face. "It's going to be okay." Rosa said.
"Don't lie to me!" Weiss said, trying to get Rosa off her. Rosa grabbed Weiss's arm and brought up her sleeve. No marks of self-harm. But Weiss isn't in a good headspace." She got out of Rosa's grip and used a glyph to stop her. She was shocked and ran away.
A moment later, she fell.
"I need to tell them." Rosa took out her scroll and called Yang first.
Weiss ran away from Rosa and went to the bathroom. She fixed everything, until she looked back to normal.
"You're a fraud. A fake."
"I know." Weiss said, seeing the image of her father looking down on her. "Go away." She whispered to herself. He wanted her to be a leader, so… maybe that was the key to all this. But she had to go to a professor… Port!
"What do you mean?" Ruby asked.
"I mean, it's only been one day. Ruby... I've made more mistakes than any man, woman, and child on this planet. But at this moment, I would not consider your appointment to leader to be one of them. Do you?" Ozpin asked, sounding sincere. "Being a team leader isn't just a title you carry into battle, but a badge you wear constantly. If you're not always performing at your absolute best, then what reason do you give others to follow you?"
"…I don't want Weiss to hate me."
"You've been burdened with a daunting responsibility, Ruby. I advise you take some time, to think about how you will uphold it." He handed her the knight piece and smiled as he walked away. Ruby looked at the piece and got a call on her scroll from Rosa.
"Ruby, we need to talk about Weiss… I know what's making her act like this."
Weiss took a deep breath and stepped into Port's office.
"Professor Port!" Weiss said.
"Ah, Miss Schnee! And to what do I owe this fine pleasure?" Port turned around, cleaning his weapon.
"I... I enjoyed your lecture!" Weiss started. He smirked and twirled his mustache.
"Of course, you did, child; you have the blood of a true Huntress in you." Weiss didn't react on the outside, but her heart ached at that.
"You think so?" Weiss asked.
"Most assuredly… something is troubling you." Port said.
"Yes…" Weiss said.
"Well girl, confess what pains you, and maybe we can discover a balm for it." Port said.
"Well... I-I think I should have been the leader of Team RWBY!" Weiss said, but knowing deep down, it was wrong.
"That's preposterous!"
"Even this man can see how pathetic you are Weiss."
"What…?" Weiss asked.
"I've believed in Professor Ozpin for many years, and the man's never once led me astray!" Port said.
"So you would just blindly accept his decision even after seeing how exceptional I am?" Weiss said.
"How embarrassing for you. Having to go to your teacher and beg for a position you have no right to." Jacques said.
"With all due respect, your exceptional skill on the battlefield is matched only by your poor attitude." Port said. Weiss felt as if her father had just slapped her, and she narrowed her eyes. She had to remind herself that this was Professor Port, and she opened her eyes back to normal.
"What?" Weiss asked, almost yelling.
"My point exactly. I see a girl before me who has spent her entire life getting exactly what she wanted." Port said.
"Not exactly…" Weiss turned away from Port. "I didn't get what I needed."
"What was that?" Port asked.
"Nothing… Professor." Weiss said. He gave her a look and continued what he was saying.
"So, the outcome did not fall in your favor. Do you really believe that acting in such a manner would cause those in power to reconsider their decision? So instead of fretting about what you don't have, savor what you do. Hone your skills, perfect every technique, and be not the best leader, but the best person you can be."
"The best is never good enough for him." Weiss said. She then covered her mouth and looked at the ground.
"I fear there is more to this than you not getting the spot. Are you being honest with your team? With your professors? With yourself?" Port asked. Weiss couldn't look at him.
"In this life… we all face burdens that no one else can see. You in some respects have light burdens…" Weiss lowered her head. "But in others, it seems to me that you burden yourself more than is healthy, or natural. The last straw and all. If there are issues you have that need addressing, you should address them now. I know that if you're honest with your team, they'll help you. Yang and Ruby are kind people who've lost people important to them."
"I was horrible to them. Nothing I say or do will get them to forgive me. I messed this up, like I always mess everything up." Weiss said.
"Madam! Do not talk about yourself like that. Whoever has been talking to you like that should be ashamed of themselves… This goes deep, doesn't it?" Port asked.
Weiss could only shake her head.
"We can get you someone who will help you. I hear the new teacher can help people who're hurt. Give me a moment, and I'll write my recommendation. Your line of thought about yourself is harmful and abusive. Never talk about yourself like that again." Port gave Weiss the recommendation. She left Port's room, feeling better, but she felt tears come down her face.
"I'm crying…" Weiss said.
Weiss walked the halls, until she was grabbed and brought into an empty room, with her team looking at her.
She looked at all of them and looked at the floor. Shame washed over her.
"Ruby…" Weiss started. Ruby put her hand up to stop her. She looked down again.
"Weiss, we want to help you." Ruby said. Weiss looked at her leader and saw the concern on her face.
"Your father's been filling your head with lies. Lies that have harmed you so deep that it left scars." Rosa said.
"We learned that your dad's a bastard. A real piece of shit that kept telling you that you were awful. If I could, I'd beat him to an inch of his life for hurting my teammate." Yang said.
"Your father's influence on you is… strangling you isn't it? We can help you." Blake said.
Weiss looked down at her hands and brought them to her face, hiding it. She brought her knees up to her chest.
"Weiss… It's okay." Ruby said. "Let's just… take a step forward."
"We won't abandon you. We're here for you." Rosa said.
"Weiss… we'll help you." Blake said.
"Yeah. No one needs to be alone here. We're a team." Yang said.
Weiss felt tears fall down her face. She felt the hugs from her teammates. Weiss felt a warmth cover her. She didn't want to move.
After Weiss apologized to her team, she took Rosa to the side, and showed her the recommendation.
"It's for your Jedi master. I was told… that he can help me." Weiss said.
"Yeah… My master is really sweet, and he always listens. A lot of Jedi came to him to talk about what they saw out in the field." Rosa said.
"I… think I'll go to these new meetings then." Weiss said.
"I could go with you if you want." Rosa said.
"I think I'd like that." Weiss said.
Ozpin smiled as the friction within team RRWBY disappeared. But he also knew his work with them was far from over. Maku entered his office.
"You called?" Maku asked.
"Yes… Two things. The first, I want you to keep an eye on teams JNPR and RRWBY. I suspect they'll become some of your favorites. The second…" Ozpin put a blaster on his desk. Maku looked at it.
"We figured out how these work. It's not too far off from our weapons here. But the problem, we didn't recover them all from the crash site. We can assume that those with clones who had their bodies crushed are destroyed, but that would still leave four blasters unaccounted for. Someone wants to use this technology and We don't know who." Ozpin said.
"Blasters won't do much without the gases needed to fire them."
"See, we came up with a roundabout to that. Your gases that power the blasters are very similar to dust powder. It barely took any time to figure out how to make the mimic gases. If we don't track down those lost blasters, we could see this planet enter a new age of armed combat." Ozpin said.
"Then we need to find those that stole the blasters and stop the operation before it begins." Maku said.
"That will prove more difficult than you think. There are those outside the kingdoms, those inside who discovered the wreck. We don't know if one of the other schools took the blasters. And then there's the missing clone body. We accounted for all the bodies there could have been, and we found all but one. We cannot assume that whoever took the body also took a blaster. But we can't guess as to why." Ozpin said.
"Do you have many enemies?" Maku asked.
"Yes, of course. And I have enemies who would like to see the world plunged into darkness. But the question continues to be, who would do such a thing?" Ozpin asked.
"The Sith?" Maku asked.
"They may have a connection to this… but I doubt it. Your Sith at least. A lost tribe of Sith…? That sounds unlikely. Perhaps an ancient Sith brought back to life?" Ozpin smiled.
"Please don't joke about the Sith." Maku said.
"Do you think you can find a Jedi here?" Ozpin asked.
"You mean find someone who's connected to the force? Maybe. This planet does have a strong connection to the force. Do you know of any who have that potential?" Maku asked.
"No, I do not." Ozpin turned to look out the window, down at team JNPR walking.
"Is that all?"
"One more favor to ask, if I may. Jaune Arc lied to get into this school. Fake some numbers and got accepted. I made him the leader of his team, and I believe his first real test on that is about to begin… so make sure he's strong enough to handle that roadblock." Ozpin said with a smile.
"Why let him stay if you know he doesn't belong?"
"I never once said he doesn't belong. In fact, he needs to be here more than most. Don't you think he has a hidden potential in him for martial arts?" Ozpin asked.
"I can't really tell."
"In time then."
After night fell, Ruby dropped her pencil, and Weiss woke up. She looked at the pencil and sighed. She picked it up and looked at her team leader sleeping in front of her notes. She put her hand on Ruby's face and she jumped.
"Oh, wha… Sorry, did I fall asleep?"
"Yeah… Do you want another cup?" Weiss asked, pointing to the mug.
"Sure. With…"
"I know. Take all the bitterness out of it."
"Cream and…" Weiss turned and shushed her, winking. Ruby worried, but Weiss came back quickly.
"Five sugars." Weiss said.
"How…?"
"Yang joked about it." Weiss said.
"Yang…" Ruby pouted.
"I'm sorry Ruby. I… I was horrible to you."
"I doubt it was you. It was your dad."
"No Ruby… that's an excuse. I said what I did. My father be damned. I know… I messed up. But from today on, I promise I'll be the best teammate I can be. I want to fix everything." Weiss said.
"Again, with that toxic perfection. Yeah, you were a jerk, but your dad's also got blame. Most of it if you ask me. Telling you perfection was the only option."
"He's a jerk for other reasons as well." Weiss said.
"Then I hope I never have to meet him." Ruby said.
"But… I might want to meet yours." Weiss said, then blushed. "That came out wrong. I mean I's love it if we visited your home, as a team."
"Yeah, that sounds great."
"I've always wanted bunk beds when I was a kid." Weiss smiled.
Rosa smiled too, trying to act asleep.
"Is Rosa awake?" Weiss asked. Ruby brought out her head and looked at Rosa. She turned in her bed, trying to act like she was asleep.
"She's awake." Weiss said. Then she turned to the others. They tried to act asleep as well. "You're all awake?"
No one said anything.
"Go to bed everyone." Weiss said.
"We're glad to have you on the team as well." Yang said. Weiss' face turned red.
"Shut up." Weiss jumped in bed, closing her eyes. Rosa smiled.
"If you guys don't go to bed, I won't let you borrow any of my notes." Weiss said. Everyone quickly went back to bed.
Author's Notes: This chapter was one of the ones that I was most excited to write. I think Volume 1 lacked a lot to make you like Weiss, which made most people not like her at the time. That hate inspired me to write Karel starting with Weiss, then as I wrote the character, I began to understand her.
Another plot begins! The mystery of the crash!
Review, favorite, and all that stuff.
