Italic=the twins mentally speaking with each other

They were nearly to the ship. They could see it over the desert dunes. But the closer they drew to the ship, the more Ariana's feeling of unease grew. "There's the ship, kids. We're almost there," Qui-Gon Jinn announced.

As they followed the Jedi, Anakin asked his sister, "How's your feeling, Ari? Is it still there?"

With her head bowed a little, she answered, "Yeah, it's still there."

"Well, if it gets any stronger you let me know, alright?", Qui-Gon requested. For he had to admit to himself that he was concerned what the young girl can sense might be.

"Yes, sir," Ari replied.

When they made it over the rest of the dunes and were only about 300 yards away from the ship, Ariana's head suddenly perked up. "It's coming," she whispered.

"What?", Ani asked, unable to hear her.

"It's coming!", she shouted this time for both males to hear. The two of them looked at her. "Qui-Gon, it's stronger! It's coming this way!"

Qui-Gon immediately went on alert. "Alright. We are almost to the ship, so we'll run the rest of the way there," he told them. He gestured for them to follow him and began to run himself. "Come on, you two. Hurry."

And hurry they did. The three of them ran as fast as they could and were almost to the ship. However, because the twins had much shorter legs, they were lagging behind a bit and the threat was getting closer to them. Qui-Gon, now sensing the evil himself, turned around and saw this. "Kids, drop!", he ordered them. Anakin grabbed his sister by her backpack and pulled her to the ground with him just as a speeder flew over them. In order to protect the children, Qui-Gon ignited his lightsaber and engaged the Sith.

Feeling like they were no longer in harm's way, Ani grabbed Ari by the hand, picked them up off the ground, and began running again to the shuttle. "Come on, Ari!", he thought as he led them away.

"I'm hurrying! I'm hurrying!", Ari relayed back.

As they ran past the fighting Force wielders, the Jedi shouted to them, "Go! Tell them to take off!"

When they managed to get inside the spaceship, Ari yelled out, "Help!"

Recognizing the voice Padme rushed to the twins, with the captain behind coming up behind her. She knelt in front of them and said, "Ani. Ari. What's happening?"

Ari grabbed onto Padme's arms and said to her, "Qui-Gon is in danger."

"He says to take off," Ani continued.

Padme and the captain looked at each other with a look of concern and understanding. She then turned back to the twins and nodded. "Come with us," she told them. The handmaiden and captain led them into the cockpit, where a pilot and a young man dressed similarly as Qui-Gon were.

"Qui-Gon's in trouble," the officer announced.

Hearing this, Obi-Wan order the pilot to take off. He took a seat and pointed in the direction of the duel. "Over there," he said. "Fly low."

When Qui-Gon noticed the ship flying overhead, he jumped unto the platform and went inside. Leaving his duel unfinished.

After the hatch closed up, Kenobi and the Skywalker twins went to go to the main hanger. Upon seeing Qui-Gon laying on the ground, they rushed over to him.

"Are you alright?", Ani asked.

"Yes, I think so," Jinn replied.

"What was that?", Obi-Wan inquired.

"I am not sure," he panted out, "but it was well-trained in the Jedi ways. My guess is that it was after the queen."

"Well, it sure felt evil to me," Ari piped up. "So, what are we going to about it?"

Qui-Gon sighed before answering. "We shall be patient." He then went on to make introductions. "Anakin and Ariana Skywalker, meet Obi-Wan Kenobi."

"Hi," the siblings said together, as they shook hands with the Padawan. Obi-Wan nodded his head in greeting.

"Pleased to meet you," Ani announced.

"You're a Jedi too, aren't you?", Ari asked excitedly.

"Yes, I am," he chuckled. Qui-Gon just laughed at the interaction between the three of them.

Later, the twins were in the lounge of the ship. Jar Jar was at the same table as them, sleeping; you could hear him softly snore and mumble to himself. Ariana had just woken up from a nap to see her older brother stare at something that was in his hands. "What you got there, Ani?", she thought to him, getting his attention. When she got a closer look, she noticed it was not one but two items. A tiny carving tool and a small piece of wood. "Is that a japor snippet?"

"Yeah," he nodded.

"What are you going to do with it?"

"I'm going to make it into a gift for Padme," he replied, a bit sheepishly.

"Ooo. You have a crush on her!" Her face showing excitement.

"No, I don't!", Anakin protest.

"Ani has a crush! Ani has a crush! Ani has a crush!", Ari teased by singing mentally.

"No, I don't, Ari. Knock it off!"

This only caused her to laugh in her head. "Ok, ok. I'll stop. I'll stop."

"Thank you," the boy sighed.

Taking a deep breath to calm herself, Ari then asked him, "So, what are you gonna carve onto it?"

"I don't know," he replied, looking at the object in his hands. He then turned to his younger sister. "Any ideas?"

Ari smiled at this. "I might have a few."

And so, they ended up working for almost an hour on decorating the sippet of wood.

"Hey, I some heavy-duty string. Why not make a hole at the top and turn it into a necklace?", Ari suggested.

Anakin perked at that. "Yeah. That's a great idea! Thanks, sis."

"You're welcome, big bro." As her brother began working on the hole, Ari's thoughts drifted to her mother. "Hey, Ani?", she thought, looking at her mother's bracelet.

"Yeah?"

"I miss mom," she relayed looking at him.

Anakin turned his head to her after hearing that. They stared at each other without thinking anything. He then replied, "I miss her too." Ari nodded. No other words needed to be said.

After a pause, Ariana shook away her sad thoughts. "Here's the string for the necklace," she thought to him, handing her brother the offered object.

He smiled his thanks and pulled it through the hole of the japor snippet.

After they were done, the twins began to feel cold, something that they were not used to. In an attempt to keep warm, they drew closer together to share each other's body heat. "It's cold," Ani voiced out. Ari just nodded her head from where she rested it on Ani's shoulder.

Not long afterwards, they saw Padme come in, wearing her handmaiden outfit, and watch a hologram recording. It was only when she turned her head in their direction that she noticed them. Seeing how they were positioned she asked them, "You two ok?"

"It's very cold," Ani said, answering for both of them. Ari nodded in agreement.

Padme grabbed two blankets and went over to them. "You two come from a warm planet. A little too warm for my taste. Space is cold." ," she told them, placing one blanket over each twin.

"You seem sad," Ari observed. "What's wrong?"

"The queen is worried," she answered. "Her people are suffering, even dying. She must convince the Senate to help, or..."

"Bad things will happen?", Ari tried to finish for her.

"I'm not sure what will happen," Padme said honestly.

Anakin then pulled his hand out from under his blanket and gave to Padme what was in it. "I made this for you, so you would remember me and Ari."

"It's carved out of a japor snippet. It's supposed to bring good luck," Ari explained, as she pulled her right arm out from beneath her blanket to get more comfortable.

Padme examined it in her hands. "It's beautiful," the handmaiden said. "But I don't anything to remember you guys by." This caused them to smile a bit. "Ani, Ari, many things will change when we reach the capital, but my caring for you two will remain."

"We care about you too, but we..." Anakin couldn't finish.

"You two miss your mother," she said for them.

"Yeah," Ariana answered.

"I'm sorry," she told them. She then noticed something on Ari's arm. "What's this?", she asked, pointing to the object in question.

Ari looked down at the bracelet and then said, "It belongs to my mom. She gave it to me before we left to hold onto."

Taking another look at the bracelet, Padme noticed that it has seen better days. "It looks worn out. Why don't we clean up the leather and polish the metal studs, you know, make it like new. It'll last longer that way. What do you say, Ari?"

"Really?", Ari questioned. Padme nodded in response. "Sure. Thank you."

Padme smiled bigger, "You're welcome, Ari. Come on." She led the young Skywalker girl to where the needed supplies were.

As they had just finished fixing up the bracelet, Anakin ran into the room. "We're almost to Coruscant!", he exclaimed. "Come on, Ari! We've got to check this out!" He then ran out of the room excitedly.

"Coming!", Ari shouted after him. She then turned and smiled to Padme. "Thanks again, Padme. It really does look like it's brand new."

"You are very welcome, Ari. I'm glad I was able to help you. Now go meet up with your brother," Padme told her. Ari just smiled and did just that.

When she finally caught up with Anakin, they were both standing outside the door that led to the cockpit. They entered the cockpit together and when they saw the view, they both said, "Whoa!", at the same time.

This caused one of the pilots to smile. "Quite a sight, isn't it?", he asked getting the twins attention.

"You can say that again," Ariana said as they made their way over to the polit.

He chuckled at that. Upon entering the atmosphere and into the city, he spoke to them again. "Coruscant. The entire planet is one ginormous city." He then pointed to a floating landing platform. "And look over there. There's Chancellor Valorum's shuttle with Senator Palpatine waiting for us as well." All the pilots then began working on the landing sequence.

As they were doing that, Qui-Gon came in to fetch the twins. "Ani. Ari. It's time to go," he said and then led the way out.

"Ok," they said at once and began to follow him. Ari stopped briefly to wave and say goodbye to the pilots before walking away again. They either nodded their heads or said quick goodbyes themselves.

When Anakin and Ariana came out of the space shuttle, they were behind the two Jedi along with Jar Jar. Upon reaching the political figures they all bowed to them in respect.

When the queen walked up to them, Senator Palpatine said to her, "It is a great joy to see you alive, Your Majesty. With the communications breakdown, we've all been gravely concerned. I am quite anxious to hear your report on the situation of our home world." As he was saying this, Qui-Gon moved the twins to stand in front of him and Obi-Wan, so that they would not be in the way and in his sight. This also allowed them to be able to see Padme, who was right next to the queen. Palpatine then went on to introduce the man to his left. "May I present to you Supreme Chancellor Valorum."

"Welcome, Your Grace," the Chancellor greeted. "It is a great honor to finally meet you in person"

The queen replied, "Thank you, Supreme Chancellor."

While the two leaders continued to talk leading everyone else away, the twins included, Anakin and Ariana were a mental one of their own. "Hey, Ani? Do you feel that?", Ari asked him.

"I don't feel anything. What does it feel like?", he relayed back.

"Like a chilling cold that's out to get us," she answered.

"Ari," he mentally sighed, "you are just having culture shock, that's all. You're somewhere new and you are not used to it yet."

"You sure?"

"I'm sure, sis. Stick close to me and I'll keep you safe, ok?"

"Thanks, big bro," she smiled at him.

"Don't sweat it." He then paused as he realized something. "Hey, where's Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan? I thought they were right behind us."

"I don't know," Ari replied, as they stepped out of line from the others. After a quick look around, she spotted them. She tapped Ani on the shoulder and pointed in their direction. "Found them. They're talking to that man. What do you think they are saying?"

"I don't know."

"I must speak with the Jedi Council immediately," Qui-Gon told the man. "The situation has become far more complicated." He then felt Ani and Ari watching them. He turned his head in their direction to give them his attention.

Just as they were about to ask their question, Padme called out to them. "Ani, Ari, come on," she said before continuing to walk away.

Realizing their time crunch, Anakin quickly asked Qui-Gon via hand movements if they were supposed to stay with him. He returned the gesture by signaling that it was safe for them to go with the Padme and the rest of the royal party.

"I guess we keep going the we were," Ani thought.

"I guess so," Ari replied.

The twins and the Gungan sat up front with driver, while everyone else sat in the back with the Senator. "The queen's a bein' grossly nice, mesa thinks," Jar Jar told the twins. The driver then piloted them off to Senator Palpatine's residence.

Back with Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi. They watched as the transport left. When it did, the Jedi Knight turned his attention back to the man he was speaking with. "I must speak with the Council," he said the seriousness clear in his voice.

"I will arrange transport for you, sir," was his reply.

"Thank you." He bowed his head in gratitude.

When the master and his Padawan arrived to the Jedi Temple, they immediately went to the council chamber. Upon entering the chamber, all the council members were already present. Coming up to the center of the room, both Jedi bowed to the Jedi Masters that sat around them.

"Master Qui-Gon, what to report do you and your Padawan have?", the Grand Master, Yoda, asked.

"We were able to rescue the queen and bring her here to Coruscant, Master Yoda. Although, when we escaped the blockade, we received damage to the hyperdrive. We were able to find a place to hide and received help getting the parts we needed to repair our ship. However, as we were about to depart, we were attacked by a man who I suspect was after the queen. He was trained in the Jedi arts. My only conclusion can be that it was a Sith lord."

"Impossible," Ki-Adi-Mundi protested. "The Sith have been extinct for over a millennium."

"I do not believe that the Sith could have returned without the Jedi knowing," Mace Windu said, agreeing with previous statement.

"Ah, hard to see, the dark side is," Yoda stated.

Mace Windu spoke again, "We will use all our resources to unravel this mystery. We will discover the identity of your attacker. May the Force be with you."

The two Jedi bowed again; one began to leave while the other remained where he stood. Obi-Wan, realizing that his master wasn't leaving with him, stood by the door as Qui-Gon spoke with the other masters.

"Master Qui-Gon," Yoda addressed him. "More to say do you?"

He licked his lips before speaking. "With your permission, Master Yoda, I've encountered a vergence in the Force."

This caused the council members to look at each other in confusion.

"A vergence, you say?", Yoda questioned.

Windu inquired, "Located around a person?"

"Two, to be exact," Jinn answered. "Twins, a boy and a girl. While the boy's count is higher than his sister's, their cells have the highest concentration of midi-chlorians than I have ever seen in a living being. It is possible that they were conceived by the midi-chlorians."

This caused the Masters to look at each other, again, for confirmation on what they've just heard.

"You speak of the prophecy of the one who will bring balance to the Force," Mace speculated. "And you it to be this boy?"

"I do not presume to-"

Yoda interrupted Qui-Gon. "But you do. Revealed your opinion is."

There was a pause before Mace Windu asked, "And what of the girl?" This resulted in Qui-Gon turning his head to him. "You believe her brother to be the Chosen One and said that her midi-chlorian count was not as high as his. What do you believe her role to be?"

"I believe she is to help her brother with his quest. True, she is not as strong with the Force like her brother, but she is already incredibly gifted with it. She can easily sense things long before anyone else can, sometimes much sooner than the ordinary Jedi. In fact, she was able to sense the presence of our pursuer as he was approaching us and even before we began to cross the desert to get to our ship." And as an afterthought he mentioned, "The twins not only share a strong connection with the Force, but also with each other. They are able to hear each other's thoughts and communicate that way."

The Council was shocked to hear this.

"Rare such an ability is," Yoda muttered to himself as he rubbed his chin.

"I request that the children to be tested, Master," Qui-Gon stated.

This raised a few eyebrows.

"Oh?", the Grand Master inquired. "Trained as Jedi you request for them, hmm?"

"Finding these two was the will of the Force. I have no doubt of that," was all Qui-Gon said.

The council members all looked to Mace Windu, their eyes holding their silent decision. Windu shook his head, sighing, before speaking. "Bring them before us, then."

Both Master and Padawan bowed before leaving.

Once gone Yoda and Mace Windu looked at each other, both suspicious and mildly curious of what outcome the test would bring.
