Chapter 10
The Jedi have begun to gather together in Vale. More Jedi were being discovered, including all the members of Team JNPR. Somehow, Ozpin knew. In exchange for taking down the White Fang, the Jedi have been offered a temple to call their own.
They knew the mission. They found the local white fang meeting. Sun and Blake went in, with Kit Fisto and Maku going in. Fisto had makeup put on him to make his skin change. Yang with the help of Weiss and Fordo found out where the meeting was taking place. Fordo and his team were locking down the escape routes. Blake looked around, feeling the darkness coming off all the hurt faunas.
"I feel it too." Sun said.
"They've all had things happen in their life that made them like this. I know that better than anyone else." Blake said. Kit stepped by Blake, the smile almost always on his face gone.
"I feel the emotions coming off these people. Some of them are ready for violence." Blake remembered the lessons from Kit about his people. She shook her head, knowing the clones were watching them.
"I also feel darkness… but I fear it's for a different reason." Maku said. "I fear there are Sith here." He said in a whisper.
"I feel it too." Came the voice from the headsets they all wore, hiding them. Shaak Ti said.
"Be on your guard." Plo said. "Team JNPR, are you in position?"
"Yes, master." Pyrrha said. Jaune was meditating, using battle mediation.
"When the signal is given, we'll take down the heads of this operation. Do not arrest the civilians or attack unless attacked. Set blasters to stun. And remember, may the force be with you." Mace Windu said. Ruby looked at him, and he nodded.
"Now young one, this is where you're first Jedi mission begins." Mace said.
The mission was simple enough on paper. Infiltrate the meeting and capture the enemy force leaders. Nothing that Rosa hadn't already done, but she felt nervous. Even though she knew no one could see her she still felt a few pairs of eyes on her. The meeting was about to start.
A man in full white fang armor came out, with three people in black robes.
"Damn, looks like three dark siders." A knight in the ceiling said.
"Thank you all for coming. For those of you who are joining us for the first time tonight, allow me to introduce a very special comrade of ours! I can assure you, he is the key to obtaining what we have fought for for so long!" The white fang troop said.
Ruby turned to Windu when Roman walked out on the stage.
"Master, that's a criminal I've fought before. His defenses are strong. He beat Sun." Mace nodded his head.
"Commander, give a status." Windu asked over his comm.
"Ready to strike general." Fordo said.
"Good." Windu gave a signal to two knights, who took out equipment to scan all the leaders of the white fang.
The crowd booed Roman when he got on stage, but he didn't let it get to him. He showed them his arms outstretched and blew kisses out to the assembly. After they stopped shouting Roman smiled at them all. A woman in similar clothing to him was behind him. Ruby guessed she was shorter than even her.
"I've never seen her master. We're going to have to be careful when dealing with her." Ruby said.
"Of course." Windu said.
"Thank you all for the warmest welcome." Roman said, crossing his hands over his heart and bowing.
"Why is a human here?" A faunas asked close by the Jedi.
"I'm glad you asked, "Deerie"! Now, I'll be the first to admit, humans... are the worst." Roman saluted himself. "Case in point. So, I understand why you would like to see us all locked away, or, better yet, killed!"
"And trust us, we want to kill you." A dark sider said next to him. He turned and took off his hat.
"But, before the claws come out, I'd like to mention the fact that you and I all have a common enemy: the ones in control, the people pulling the strings, the dirty, rotten humans that run our kingdoms! Government, military, even the schools: they're all to blame for your lot in life! And they're all pests that need to be dealt with! Fortunately, I'm the best exterminator around... No offense to any rodents in the room." Roman said.
"An anarchist?" Nora asked.
"It seems so." Shaak Ti said.
"Fordo, do you have a shot ready?" Windu asked.
"Yes, general." Fordo said.
Roman snapped his fingers, and the curtain fell, revealing a stolen Atlesian Paladin-290.
"Fordo, do you see that?" Windu asked.
"Yes, general."
"You have full permission to take that thing down in whatever way you like." Windu said.
"Whoa, that's a big robot..." Sun said.
"How did he get that?" Blake asked.
"As some of you may have heard, this right here..." Roman taps it. "Is Atlas' newest defense against all the scary things in the world. And thanks to my "employer", we've managed to snag a few before they, uh, "hit the shelves". Now, many of your brothers have already moved down to our new operation in the southeast. If you'd rather stay within the city, that's fine... But if you're truly ready to fight for what you believe in, this is the arsenal I can provide you. Any questions?"
"And any of you worrying about the Grimm don't have to. They are nothing compared to us." One of the Sith said.
"All new recruits come to the stage." The white fang Lieutenant said.
"We've got to start now." Windu said. He used the shatterpoint ability to shatter the glass they were looking in from all the windows, then used the force the throw the shards of glass into the wall.
"Now!" Windu said, jumping down from the roof, with all the Jedi following. Fordo and his men set their blasters to stun, firing at the white fang troops around the room. Rosa dropped her force cloak and rushed forward. A Sith jumped in front of her and went to strike her. She took out her lightsaber just in time and blocked the attack. Three more Sith and three dozen more white fang troops came out.
"Don't let Torchwick get out of here!" Windu shouted out. Shaak Ti jumped over Windu who was fighting a Sith without a lightsaber and rushed forward. She was stopped by another Sith. Plo and Kit were also stopped by Sith. Jaune continued to use battle meditation.
"They're trying to leave from the back." The wall burst open, with Roman using the Atlesian Paladin-290.
"Team RRWBY, can you get after him?" Pyrrha asked.
Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang were going after the mech. Yang used her motorcycle, having Blake hanging on her. Ruby used her semblance, holding onto Weiss.
"Rosa?" Pyrrha asked.
"Busy." She said. She barely dodged the next attack, but then she let out a scream when the lightsaber touched her shoulder. She felt her aura break, and the Sith grabbed her by the throat. They began sending out force lighting through her hand. Rosa screamed again. Maku jumped at the Sith, who dropped Rosa, spasming from the lightning. Maku jumped and slashed at the Sith. Their head rolled on the ground.
"Rosa!"
Rosa couldn't hear anything. She collapsed. A wave of guilt came over Maku.
"I'm sorry."
Windu ducked under the strike from the Sith with ease and put his hand on the lightsaber of the Sith. In an instant, the blade broke into a thousand pieces. The Sith looked at the broken blade and jumped away. Sun jumped in the air, smacking the Sith with his staff. The Sith fell to the ground.
"Master Windu, we should probably go after that robot." Sun said.
"We still need to take care of the white fang leaders here." Windu said.
The stun blasts came raining down on the leaders. Many of them collapsed.
"It seems I can't trust them with anything." A dark voice came out of nowhere. Out of the ground, dark claws came up, encircling all the Sith, and dragging the hands down. They were gone.
Everyone looked around. The civilians were all gone, all that was left were the white fang troops still standing, and the Jedi. Mace looked up and saw a massive flying Grimm land itself through the opened roof. It let out a cry, and the Jedi jumped back.
"Switch to live fire!" Fordo commanded his troops, and they all began firing. Fordo pressed the beckon call on his wrist, activating the slave circuitry, calling the LAAT.
The giant Nevermore turned to Windu and Sun. It sent out feathers, that the Jedi were able to avoid. The feathers slammed in the ground, and it let out an angry crow. It flapped its wings. The Jedi were forced to brace themselves against it. The blaster fire rained down on the Nevermore as it let out another cry.
Ruby and Weiss managed to get on the Robot, but they realized that they had nothing that could make Roman stop. He looked up for a second and smiled. There was a clearing far below them, and Torchwick jumped.
"Bastard!" Weiss yelled as she clung to a piece of metal hanging out. Ruby just let out a screech. The impact slammed the two girls into the mech. They both let go, falling to the ground.
"Everything hurts." Ruby said. "Use the force, use the force." She said trying to calm herself. She looked over at Weiss and saw her chanting something similar. The Robot turned to them, and Ruby had to use her semblance to get them out of the way of the guns. Weiss stood up, holding her head. There was a small cut above her right eyebrow, leaking blood. She hit her head on the metal before letting go. She shook her head, and slammed her weapon into the ground, creating a massive wall of ice.
"Is it bad?" Weiss asked.
"Um… kinda." Ruby said. They heard a motorcycle and Ruby saw Yang slam into the mech. She let out a sigh of relief. Blake had jumped off, as she was in the air, she spun herself, using the pistol to spin faster, and she slammed the katana of Gambol shroud in the glass. It punctured, but Torchwick moved his head slightly. She struggled to get her katana out of the glass when he held up his cane. A hammer slammed onto the back of the Mech. Blake grabbed her katana and jumped back with her team.
"Not today!" Nora said. Pyrrha rushed forward, her spear in hand. She brought it forward, running along the left leg of the Mech. Everyone felt energized. Ren appeared on the back of the mech, cutting a wire along the back. Steam shot out, and Torchwick knew the cooling system was broken.
"Hey, that costs a lot of money. Not mine but the point still stands!" Roman said, bringing the hand to where Ren was and tossed him to the ground. He slammed, dropping his weapons when Yang jumped at Roman. The glass cracked, and Roman stumbled back, trying to get balance.
"Freezer Burn!" Ruby yelled. Weiss rushed forward, slamming the ground with her weapon, covering the ground with ice. Jaune told his team to back away, and they did. He told them what Ruby told him. His telepathic abilities made him able to easily connect with everyone.
Yang jumped in the air, and slammed on the ice, causing a massive cloud of mist to form. Immediately, the Paladin activates its laser sensors to make up for the lost sight, but it barely saw the afterimage of Blake and narrowly missed Yang dashing. A gun managed to fire at the area between Blake and Yang, but Ruby rushed forward out of the blast slashing the metal with her blade, causing it to falter.
"Checkmate!" Ruby yelled. Blake and Weiss go for the feet together until Weiss jumps up and stabs a sensor before leaping off of a white glyph. Roman lifted the Paladin's foot to crush Blake, but Weiss summoned another glyph under her teammate to launch her backward before the crushing blow could land. Roman growled and fired missiles, but Weiss and Blake flip backward as the explosions hit where they were. Weiss jumped up too high, and Roman fired a double energy blast at her. Myrtenaster absorbs the damage, but Weiss was thrown back, so she cast a beam of light from her weapon to the ground under Blake, forming a yellow clockwork circle that's absorbed into the Faunus girl and lets her slice through each launched missile with ease in a flurry of super-fast slashes. They all began to explode, causing all the Jedi padawans to move back. Bullets began to fly, causing them to move out of the Way.
"Ren! Nora!" Jaune yelled to them. They rushed forward; Ren jumped in the air. He landed on Nora's hammer, and she launched him forward. He flew passed a turret and slashed it in half. They landed and all turned to the mech.
The Nevermore tried to get in the air, but Fordo and his men were in the LAAT.
"Generals, we're in the LAAT. We're going to chase after the Grimm."
"Understood." Windu said. Shaak Ti used the force to jump to the roof.
"Mind some help?" Shaak Ti asked.
"No general." Fordo said as Shaak Ti jumped in the LAAT. They flew across the sky, firing at the Nevermore ever once in a while.
"Careful commander, this is still civilian space." Shaak Ti said.
"Copy." Fordo said. The Nevermore stopped, and turned in the air, launching four feathers. Shaak Ti raised her hands, grabbed the first feather, and waved her hand, hitting the other three out of the way. They fired two missiles at the Grimm. The missiles slammed into the back of the Grimm, leaving a massive mark, but it wasn't dead yet.
"We have a weak spot now!" Shaak Ti shouted. They continued to chase after the Grimm, landing hit on its back. It turned around again, only to get hit by two more missiles in the face. Shaak Ti realized they were being taken to Beacon.
"We have to take it out before it reaches the school." Shaak Ti said.
"I don't think it can take another hit like that." The black ooze came out of the bird, and it let out a massive cry, making the targeting system malfunction.
A small bird flew passed them and landed on the back of the Nevermore. Shaak Ti felt something from it, but she was focused on trying to keep the ship in the air. The Grimm let out a pained screech, and the targeting system fixed itself. Another two missiles were launched, hitting the Nevermore in the chest. It let out a pathetic cry and began falling to the ground, dissolving.
Shaak Ti let out a breath she didn't know she was holding.
"Let's return." Shaak Ti said.
The eight Padawans all took a second to catch their breath. Roman was sweating, waiting for his pickup.
"Not so fair to have eight Jedi fighting little old me." Roman said.
"How does he know?" Ruby asked.
"I can feel all of you using it. But I got my ways of dealing with your kind." Roman said.
"Ladybug!" Ruby yelled. Ruby shot herself forward and cut at the robot's legs, then turned as Blake aimed herself at the same spot. They both dashed forward and attack at the same time, circling each other around the Paladin with each strike until they both launch themselves into the air and come down together on the shoulder, cutting off the left arm entirely. Yang jumped onto the Paladin's back and punched the top with fiery blasts. Roman has knocked around in the cabin but seeing as he can't reach her with his remaining mechanical arm, he ran backward through two columns leaving her embedded in a third before backing away and turning towards her. Just as she fell, the remaining arm extends a closed fist, and punched her, she flies through the column and doesn't get up. She let out a groan and Blake reached out toward her.
"Yang!" She yelled
"Don't worry! With each hit she gets stronger, and she uses that energy to fight back! That's what makes her special." Yang rose back up, an aura of fire covering her; her eyes turning crimson. Everyone felt her anger rising. Roman tried punching her, thinking she was defenseless, but Yang caught it. She looked up at Roman, and his chest began to glow.
"The dark side." He mumbled to himself. "She has a strong connection to it."
Yang smashed her knuckles into the second arm, obliterating it under her force. Getting desperate with his armless robot, Roman immediately kicked Yang to the side, but as she passes her sister and teammates Ruby nodded at her.
"Bumblebee!"
Blake throws her Gambol Shroud out for Yang to catch while flying, and the Faunus uses the momentum to swing the glowing girl around for a final hit to the robot. Roman, however, steps out of the way just in time to avoid destruction. He stumbled backward again, this time, getting hit in the back by Nora. He stumbled forward, and he knew the mech was almost done.
"Shit. Where are you Neo?" He asked. Roman turned and tried to run away.
"Ice flower!" Ruby yelled, and Roman grumbled again.
Weiss and Ruby pointed both their weapons at the Mech trying to flee. Weiss created a Glyph system to help Ruby. She fired and the bullet became a massive ice spear, slamming into the mech. A warning signal came out from the mech, telling Roman that the suit was at maximum damage.
"No shit!" Roman yelled at the robot.
More ice spears slammed into the legs of the mech, forcing it to stay where it was. Roman tried to make the suit move but failed. He looked up and saw a good sight. He smirked, as he quietly got out of the suit. Just then, Yang slammed all the energy into the suit, destroying it.
"I'm not paying for that." He said as he tried to get away. Yang still had energy gathered up and released it all in one blast at Roman he turned and opened his eyes wide.
"She's trying to kill me." Roman said. Neo landed in front of him and opened Hush. The energy was dissipated. Neo stood up, twirling her umbrella with a smirk on her face, wagging her finger at Yang.
"Ladies, Gents… Ice queen." Roman said.
"Hey!"
"This is where we part ways. Don't worry, I'm not harmed despite what blondie over there tried to do." Roman said. Yang rushed forward, and Neo used her Semblance. Roman and she were on the bullhead before Yang smashed the image.
"What?" She said. The padawans looked around.
Soon, a LAAT landed by them. Shaak Ti stepped out and looked at the padawans."
"It looks like you finished your fight." She said. She offered them a cramped ride on the LAAT.
The Jedi were standing by as police arrested the White Fang troops.
"I don't know who you guys are, and I appreciate these guys getting locked up, but next time, tell us where they are." The chief of police said.
"I understand, but we were asked to deal with this problem by Headmaster Ozpin. Five escaped in total." Windu said.
"Ozpin? Since when does he get involved in this kind of stuff?" The chief asked.
"It's a part of an arrangement we made." Windu said. He turned to look at the Jedi here. The most hurt was Rosa Reidan. She had woken up, injured. Windu felt shame radiating off her.
After the police left with the criminals, Windu looked back at Rosa. He let out a sigh and walked over to her.
"Padawan Reidan. I sense that you're distressed." Windu said.
"It's… I'm…" Rosa said, looking at her hands.
"You were defeated." Windu said. Rosa nodded her head. She didn't say anything.
The LAAT landed outside the building, with those in it coming back in. Ruby went up to Rosa and looked at her. Rosa couldn't look at her team leader.
The Padawans, except those who fought the mech were sent back to their rooms when they got back to Beacon. Rosa entered her room and looked at her lightsaber.
"Pathetic. Feeling sorry for yourself." Rosa turned around and saw the Sith from the docks. He reached out, grabbing her by the wrist. She dropped the lightsaber and fell to her knees.
"I'd kill you now, but we have plans for you." He said. Rosa went to throw a punch against the weak point on the Sith's arm, but he slapped her other arm away. She gritted her teeth and felt her necklace heat up. The Sith let go of her, and kicked her, slamming her into a dresser. Clothes fell on the ground, and he took a step in. He brought his hand up, breaking her force shield, and slamming her against her bed.
"Why?" Rosa got out.
"Let your hatred out." He said. He brought his hand up, bringing Rosa up as well. He dropped his hand, and she fell. She rose a hand, and he felt an invisible hand come around him. He smiled, as I began to squeeze, then he rose his force shield. The squeeze ended. The Sith walked forward and kicked Rosa in the face. She fell to the ground, gripping her nose. Blood came out. She rose her hand sending a force push against the Sith. He was pushed back a little, and the desk was emptied. She used the force to send the pens and pencils at the Sith. None of them hit him, being destroyed by his force powers. He rose his hand, and lightning rushed out, hitting Rosa.
The door swung open, Velvet standing there.
"What's going on?" She asked.
"Maybe…" The Sith said. He sent Velvet flying, and Rosa felt rage bubbling up. She rushed forward with her lightsaber in hand, trying to strike the Sith. He let Velvet go and blocked the attack. Velvet made a jump kick, hitting the Sith in the side. He was flung to the wall.
"I got what I was coming for." He brought his hands together, and a puff of smoke filled the room.
"Failure." The voice called out, then vanished.
"Rosa, are you okay?" Velvet asked, opening the windows. She turned to Rosa and saw her knocked out on the ground.
"Oh Gods, what happened?" Velvet picked up Rosa and started for the infirmary. She was stopped by Professor Maku.
"What happened?" Maku asked.
"This weird guy in all black was attacking Rosa." Velvet said. Maku widened his eyes and took her from Velvet's hands.
"Thank you. Please, go back to your dorm." Maku said. He ran off towards the medical center.
Team RWBY and JNPR were shown the medical center. Rosa was in the Bacta tank, healing. She was covered and floating unconscious in the vat.
"This is concerning." Ozpin said. "Why would the Sith attack her? I already interviewed Velvet. It seems that she got there at the tail end of the fight."
"Master Maku, when you're all done, I would like to speak with you." Windu said. He entered the medical center and looked at the Padawans.
"It is alright young ones. She will fully recover. You must return to your studies." Windu said.
Everyone besides Maku and Windu left the room.
"I see why you left the meeting in a hurry. We can only thank the connection you have with her for the reason you found her." Windu said.
"Yes." Maku said, distracted.
"You know what I'm going to ask, aren't you?" Windu asked.
"I do." Maku said with a sigh.
Cinder was in Cyan's room, holding him in the air. She radiated dark side energy, but thanks to the charms they collected, it only affected this room.
"What was the one thing you were told to do?" She asked. Emerald and Mercury stood to the side, smiling.
"Stay low, but I had to check. That barrier that was set up is coming down. You must have sensed it. She used the amulet's power without even knowing it. I saw her eyes. They had that killing intent you have. She is shackled by the light!" Cyan said.
"You threatened us. This operation is in a delicate position. With one Sith dying at the white fang meeting, others will be more skeptical. She needs to turn. Publicly. But not before the festival." Cinder dropped Cyan. Cyan had one knee on the ground.
"Yes, master." Cyan said.
"Understand apprentices that we are trying to end the endless war with the Jedi. Have you not felt the balance of power shifting ever closer to us?" Cinder looked at her three apprentices.
"The Vytal Festival is the bright star of hope for the masses. Once we show that the protectors of the world cannot protect them, they will rage against their shackles, or die slaves. Just as Lady Salem has said, we are the force of change that this planet has been calling out for. But at this most delicate moment, we cannot stumble." Cinder said.
"I understand master." Cyan said.
"Make sure you do." Cinder said.
One of the strange things Rosa always thought about herself was that she had no memories of before she was eight. She was told she was attacked by a dark force when she and her class was taken to a planet she couldn't remember. She knew her skills were Affected. Some Jedi commented to her about it, how she seemed to have lost power, but she didn't know. She couldn't remember before.
"Troubled you are." Yoda said. He understood her well. He understood all the younglings well.
"I don't know why, but I keep seeing this one Jedi knight who keeps looking at me with a sad look. I think his name is knight Maku." Rosa said.
"Master, the title he has earned. Though recent it was. Understand why you did not know, I do. Sad he looks?" Yoda said.
"Yes, master. He looks sad. Like he blames himself for something." Rosa said. Yoda nodded his head. He let out a low 'hmm' as he thought about what Rosa was telling him.
"Master Maku, on the planet he was when lost your memory you did." Yoda said. Rosa looked at him confused.
"Master, what will happen to me? I lost everything. Will I… can I ever become a Jedi?" Rosa asked, tears in her eyes. Yoda put his hand on her shoulder and smiled at her.
"A Jedi, you may be. Many skills, you have lost, but many more skills, remain they do." Yoda said. He was right about that. Rosa didn't have any problem with using the force, but she had lost all ability with the lightsaber. She also knew she lost many force abilities she once had. She didn't know what they were, but she knew she was left with a toolset less than her peers. She also pieced together that she was once considered a prodigy, though why no one will tell her. Not even her clan mates. Her clan mates didn't seem to know how she lost her memory, but they did tell her snippets of her past. She came from a planet called Naboo. She was taken to the temple as a one-year-old. She was above average with the lightsaber, but now she was below average. She had friends, and she was rebuilding those relationships.
A few years ago, when she was four, her home planet was invaded, and the Sith had returned, but they were defeated. She and her clan were sent to a planet to see the AgriCorp of the Jedi, and something there happened to her. And it involved Master Maku.
But that was all she knew.
She trained for years until she was twelve. She built her lightsaber and obtained a green Kyber crystal. Then the Jedi apprentice tournament happened. She had gained most of her lost power back. And she discovered her most powerful ability, the reading of emotions. She fought against the top initiate of the class and lost. But it was a tough fight for both of them. She was chosen by Master Maku. It made her happy to be chosen the first time going through the tournament. She set off with Maku, who taught her Form VI. She excelled in it. She also learned a lot about the underworld in her time training with him. She learned a lot from him.
But she never did get the answers to what happened to her. Eventually, she stopped asking. Even later, she stopped caring. She was a padawan.
Then the War started.
Rosa opened her eyes and saw she was in a bacta tank. She looked down at her shoulder and saw the scar was gone, along with all the damage from the lightning. Her nose wasn't broken.
She was alright. She got out of the tank and felt her hair all wet.
"At least no one is here." Rosa said. Ruby let out a cough, and Rosa turned to her. It was just Ruby.
"Ruby? What are you doing here?" Rosa asked.
"Checking up on you. Good thing too. Think about what Ren or Jaune would think." Ruby said with a smirk, fanning herself playfully. Rosa looked down and sighed.
"Look, bacta heals best when there's not a robe in the way." Rosa looked around for a set of clothes.
"At least you have on more clothes than Sun." Ruby said.
"Sun wears pants." Rosa said.
"Yes… but you have an undershirt on." Ruby said.
"At least I wasn't naked in there." Rosa mumbled, finding a set of clothes.
"What happened that night?" Ruby asked.
"I got to our room and got attacked. I couldn't fight back, like always." She began changing. Ruby looked at her shocked. Rosa smirked.
"Where'd all that bravado go? You were just saying how Jaune and Ren would want a show." She asked playfully.
"I didn't say I wanted one." Ruby said.
"I didn't know you were such a prude." Rosa said. "Onyx sure wasn't."
"He's a guy, so he doesn't have the sense not to look." Ruby said.
"...Ruby... Never mind." Rosa was about to say something but dropped it.
"What do you mean like always?" Ruby asked.
"Think about it. When was the last time I won a fight?" Rosa said. "Even before the docks, I was struggling. I don't get it, but I'm the weakest fighter on the team."
"Rosa, you're being negative."
"You didn't deny it." Rosa said, putting on her shirt, and flicking the curtain back. Ruby folded her arms and glowered at her.
"How are you the weakest? You have been a Jedi for so long." Ruby said.
"Exactly, I've been in the order for years, but I can't beat anyone recently. Weiss beat me, Yang beat me, Nora beat me, Pyrrha beat me, Sun beat me. I've lost every fight with another force user. I lost in seconds every fight against a Sith. Jaune nearly beat me in our last session!" Rosa shouted.
"But what about…" Ruby began.
"Ruby… please. I don't need anyone to cheer me up right now." Rosa said. "I need to get stronger."
"How are you going to do that?" Ruby asked her.
"Any way possible." Rosa said. "I'm tired of dragging everyone down. Now I have to become someone we can all count on." Rosa said.
Roman entered the city, being surrounded by the white fang. He shook his head.
"We got caught. Only the Sith and I got out. But I think we're going to have more recruits soon." Torchwick said.
Three Sith stepped next to Roman.
"You survived." One of the Sith said.
"Or course I did. Always do. Part of the reason for this… partnership." Roman said.
"The Human Defense Force is forming. It's a radical group that is trying to uphold the power of the humans over the faunas. They deal in drugs, theft, murder, and slavery." One of the Sith said.
"The HDF. What do you say white fang? Do you want to take these racists down a peg or ten?" Roman asked. They all cheered.
"Good, then we start the next prep step." Roman took out a cigar and lit it. He let out a puff of smoke and looked at the faunas looking at him to finish.
"We're going to invade Vale." Torchwick said. Torchwick saw more Sith appear from the darkness.
"Seems like this is going to get a lot more interesting." One of them said.
Yang and Weiss were busy planning the dance. Team CFVY was held up with a mission running long. That was what Velvet came to talk to them about. She said it was a just in case, but the just in case came to be.
"…and last of all, dresses." Weiss said.
"…Rosa has no sense of fashion." Yang said.
"That's… an understatement. I'm worried she'll come in her Jedi robes. Yang… this is asking a lot, but can you take care of that?" Weiss asked.
"Of course. Actually, I had one in mind for her. It's got gloves that go up to her elbows and fancy stuff like that." Yang said.
"Not too fancy." Weiss said.
"I know… but…" Yang smiled.
Rosa opened the door and walked in on Yang and Weiss talking. She rose an eyebrow when they jumped back.
"Rosa! You're back?" Yang asked.
"Yes…? I wasn't hurt that bad." Rosa said.
"Bullshit! We thought you were going to die!" Yang said.
"Well, maybe not die, but you were hurt bad. The room showed that well enough. Have you seen Ozpin yet?" Weiss asked.
"Just got back from him." Rosa said. Yang grabbed her arm and smiled at Weiss.
"Want to join us on our walk?" Yang asked Weiss. She decided it was probably best for her to go with Yang. She sighed, and Rosa had no idea what was going on.
Rosa was sat down in a dress shop, her eyes wide. She had no idea what was going on.
"You're going to the dance. You're not getting out of it." Yang said.
"Um… but I don't know how to dance." Rosa said.
"Yes, you do." Yang said.
"The dances I learned in the clone wars weren't the kind you do at school." Rosa said.
"But you still know how to slow dance. Maku told us you were a great dancer." Weiss said.
"He has too high praise for me." Rosa said. "I used to dance. Haven't done it for years."
"Weiss can remind you." Yang said as she grabbed a tan dress. Rosa put it on.
The dress had no sleeves, but the gloves covered her arms. The tan dress had two large straps. It's a V-neck dress., not showing off too much. The bodice that covered her chest were two different patches of Silk one going over the other. The body of the dress was made of smooth silk. The flounce was scrunched up at the seams showing off the flowing hem. The back met at her waistline. There was a small amount of Silk in between the part covering her chest and her legs. There was a peplum of smooth silk covering and connecting the two parts of the dress together. The dress also showed off her leg. She looked at herself in the mirror, then looked at Yang. She gave a thumbs up. Weiss looked around and found a scarf for her to wear. The scarf was white and wrapped around her neck comfortably.
"Perfect." Yang said.
"I guess you were right." Weiss said.
They paid for the dress and headed back to Beacon. Rosa hung it up and shook her head.
"Thanks for that, but really… you can't have a little faith in me finding something good to wear?" Rosa asked.
"No," They both said in unison.
"Harsh." Rosa said.
The weekend ended, and classes came again. Rosa was in the weapons class, dreading it. She spent a lot of her time training with the masters, but she knew she should be so far advanced. She couldn't find Master Maku to train with, which confused her. Pyrrha was up, and one of the teams of Padawans was asked to step forward.
"Now Pyrrha, you don't have to feel bad if you don't win." One of the padawans said. She was a Mirialan. She was the team leader, and most considered her a faunas. Her name was Ciru. A Miraluka named Rator stood beside her. He was blind like every Miraluka. He had bandages covering his empty eyes. Meta Muvil was an Arkanian with white skin. Most assumed she was an albino, which wasn't far off. Sernu was a human male from Corellia. They made up team CRMS or crimson. A name they found no end of irony in.
The four padawans stood at the four corners of the arena. They had a modified arena for the new semester, one where they can add elemental diversity. An idea was taken from the Vytal Festival.
"Miss Nikos, to win this match, you must knock three out of the arena." Goodwitch said. "Team CRMS has to take this flag from you to win." Goodwitch handed Pyrrha a bandana that she tied around her arm. The combatants started circling Pyrrha. She took a breath and changed her spear to a sword.
The Jedi masters were watching this fight with curiosity. She closed her eyes and jumped up in the air when the four padawans met together to slash at her. She landed on a tree branch, then jumped down, landing on Sernu's head, and pushing off it again. Sernu fell forward and Pyrrha was on another tree branch. Meta jumped up, holding out a silver lightsaber. She smirked and brought the lightsaber forward. Pyrrha side-stepped, the branch shaking both of them. Pyrrha brought her hand around, and backhanded Meta, causing her to fall to the ground. She let out a moan. Pyrrha was hit in the back by a force push, sending her off the branch, and into the trunk of another tree.
Ciru rushed forward, her green lightsaber bouncing off Pyrrha's sword. She stepped back, falling into the opening of form III, Soresu. She blocked the overhead attack coming from Ciru. She smirked and stepped back. She brought her hand down and shot it towards Pyrrha. Pyrrha brought her shield up, and ducked, taking the hits from the branches thrown at her. She spun around and knocked Rator back. He stumbled, and Pyrrha tossed her shield at him. He flew back into a tree, falling to the ground, knocked out.
"Impressive." Plo Koon said.
"She doesn't even have a lightsaber, but she's using what she learned, and adapting it to her sword." Kit said.
Pyrrha ducked under the orange blade of Sernu and kicked him in the stomach. She stepped back feeling Meta's eyes on her. Ciru went to Sernu's side, and they both looked at Pyrrha. They both nodded and they rushed forward. Pyrrha stepped back, barely avoiding Meta's attack. She jumped back on a branch and launched herself into Ciru, punching her in the diaphragm. Ciru stumbled back, falling to the ground, trying to catch her breath. She grabbed Ciru, and dragged her out of the arena, being followed by Meta and Sernu.
As soon as Ciru was out, Pyrrha turned her attention back to the two remaining padawans. The orange and silver blades rushed forward, and Pyrrha brought her sword up, blocking the two padawans. She kicked Sernu out of the arena, and a whistle rang out.
"Alright, the fight's over. It's a draw!" Goodwitch said. Pyrrha gave her a look, and she turned, seeing Meta holding onto the scarf. It was a feint. She focused on Sernu because he was stronger than Meta. But she still met her victory condition. She smirked.
"That was a good match." Pyrrha said.
"It was. Alright, now I know that's a tough act to follow, but we have time for one more sparring match." She looked around. She noticed Rosa… but decided against asking her. She's lost a lot of confidence. She's been struggling with this class the most out of the first years. She worried about Rosa, but she was a Jedi… She moved on around the room. She scanned the room and stopped on Blake.
"Any volunteers? Ms. Belladonna? You've been rather docile for the past few classes. Why don't you…" Goodwitch began, then a hand shot up.
"I'll do it." Mercury said.
"Mercury, is it? Very well, let's find you an opponent." Goodwitch turned to her roster, then he stopped her.
"Actually, I wanna fight... her." Mercury said, pointing at Pyrrha.
"Me?" Pyrrha asked.
"I'm afraid Miss Nikos has just finished the match. I recommend you choose another partner." Goodwitch started, then she was cut off by Pyrrha.
"No, it's fine! I'd be happy to oblige." Pyrrha said.
Mercury strutted into the arena, visibly sizing up Pyrrha. Their spar began when he made the first attack and was knocked down. He looked surprised for a second. Recovering quickly, he deflected an attack and began trading blows with Pyrrha until she knocked him back with her shield. She was great. Mercury had to remember she started her Jedi training. She was faster than before, stronger than before, and reacted faster than ever before.
"Hey, your friend's doing pretty good." Ruby said to Emerald. "But… he seems to be holding back."
Emerald stopped rolling her eyes for a second, then looked at Ruby.
"He's trying to get in her head. You can just tell by how quickly his body reacts, but how slow he is to punish the small mistakes. But Pyrrha did just finish a marathon fight. The fact she's still this powerful after taking on team CRMS is amazing. Mercury is starting to take it seriously, and he's still being pushed back." Ruby said. Emerald just looked at Ruby. She was so easily able to dissect Mercury. She made a note of that.
"I wonder who taught him? But what I'm more interested in is seeing you fight." Ruby said, looking at her.
"What do you mean?" Emerald said.
"You're a trickster fighter. Much like Blake and Rosa. I wonder why you always choose to fight men, but maybe…" She looked at Emerald, and she blushed a little, covering her chest with her hand.
"Excuse me?" She asked.
"I'm just saying, a lot of these guys are too distracted by your beauty to fight properly." Ruby said. "And a few of the women. And when you start fighting, you use every trick in the book and a lot that aren't."
"You've been paying a lot of attention to how we fight." Emerald said.
"Well, the best way to fight a trickster is to know the tricks, and not be fooled by them. Being a trickster announces something about yourself you know." Ruby didn't elaborate. She turned back to the fight. Emerald was concerned with Ruby now. Her grades are average, but she's a fighting genius.
Mercury unleashes a series of powerful strikes. Pyrrha allows his kick to slam against her forearm before Mercury manages to disarm her, a kick impaling her blade into the ground. He knew with her display of unarmed combat against the Padawans that she could fight without it. Pyrrha used her Semblance to redirect the direction of Mercury's next kick. Mercury made note of the semblance and smiled. As she charged him with her shield, he shoot off of it and turned his back to her. Pyrrha tried to rush him again.
"I forfeit." Mercury said. Pyrrha stopped rushing and looked confused at him. Sweat ran down both their faces, and he started breathing heavily. He didn't have the endurance to go up against someone with that strong of a defense.
"You... don't even want to try?" Pyrrha asked.
"What's the point. I can't get past your defense. Your unarmed combat skills are incredible, and with a weapon… well I can see why you're a world-renowned fighter. We're obviously leagues apart." Mercury said.
"In that case... Pyrrha Nikos is the victor of the match... again." Goodwitch said.
"That's disappointing. You're a good fighter." Pyrrha said. She was disappointed, and very much unsatisfied from that last bout. The masters felt it too.
"That was rather abrupt, don't you think?" Plo Koon asked.
"Thanks. Coming from you… that's high praise." Mercury said as he went back to his seat.
"Next time, you may want to think a little harder before choosing an opponent." Goodwitch said.
"Will do." Mercury said.
The bell rang, and Blake was gone.
"That is all for today. And remember, the dance is this weekend. But you all have your first mission on Monday. I will not accept any excuses."
"Hey Blake, you are doing alright?" Sun asked.
"I'm fine." She said, obviously not fine.
"So I hear there's this dance going on this weekend... ah, sounds pretty lame, but you and me, I'm thinking, not as lame, huh?" Sun said. "I know we're Jedi and all, but that doesn't mean we can't dance."
"What?" Blake asked, offended.
"The dance! This weekend! You wanna go, or what?" Sun said
"I don't have time for a stupid dance. I thought you of all people would get that." Blake said angrily.
"Blake, something's wrong. You're moodier than usual. Did I do something wrong?" Sun said.
"No… Just, ugh! Go away." Blake pushed Sun away. He stumbled back, with a confused look on his face.
Blake went back to her dorm, with Ruby, Weiss, and Yang glaring at her. Rosa was behind the door, blocking it off. Blake looked at her teammates, wondering what was going on.
"We want you to go to the dance." Ruby said.
"That's ridiculous." Blake said.
"As ridiculous as pushing Sun away because he asked you?" Rosa said.
"Blake, we're worried about you. This investigation is starting to mess with your head. Roman isn't around the corner waiting for you." Yang said.
"You can't sleep, you hardly eat, and to be honest, your grades have been suffering." Weiss said. "Even the masters have noticed it."
"You think I care about grades? People's lives are at stake! Or did you forget there's a terrorist out there with Sith by his side?" Blake said.
"We know, and we're all still trying to figure out what Torchwick is up to." Yang said, putting her hands on Blake's shoulders, holding them tight.
"Thanks to you and Sun, we know they're operating somewhere outside of southeast Vale." Ruby said.
"And, the Schnee company records singled out Vale as the primary target for Dust robberies over the last few months." Weiss said.
"Don't forget about their missing military tech too." Yang said. "And the Sith. The masters are working with people to deal with that stuff.
"But there's still unanswered questions!"
Rosa knocked Blake on the head. Blake was shocked more than hurt, but her hand came up to her head.
"Of course, there are. Always will be, but I can tell you… one day of fun won't kill anyone. That's all we're asking. We're not asking you to stop forever. We have a dance, a mission, then we can focus back on looking for him. Trust me, we're going to do it. But what you're doing right now isn't helping anyone, especially yourself." Rosa said.
"I'm going to the library." Blake said. Rosa sighed and opened the door. The others looked at her and she shook her head.
"Go after her in two minutes, but one of you. Yang should do it I say." Rosa said.
They looked at her, then at Yang.
"Alright, I'll do it." Yang said. "But… are you sure I'm the best to do it?" Yang asked.
"Who's better?" Rosa asked.
"Alright." As soon as Yang left, Ruby looked at her confused.
"What?" Rosa asked.
"You look like professor Goodwitch right now… and it's gone." Ruby said.
"Jaune, you're improving dramatically." Pyrrha said. Pyrrha sat down next to Jaune, who was icing his shoulder.
"Thanks to you… and our Jedi training." Jaune said. He looked out and sighed.
"Give yourself some credit." The wind blew through Pyrrha's hair, bringing it back in the wind. He looked at it, and turned away from her, trying, and failing, not to blush. But then he remembered the first night they trained. She shot him down hard. She wasn't interested in him. And why would she be? She was amazing, and he was… well, Jaune.
"What's wrong?" Pyrrha asked.
"Even with our new powers… I'm still holding everyone back. I don't even have a semblance. What the hell can I do?" Jaune asked.
"Jaune, we talked about this. You can't talk about yourself like this." Pyrrha said.
"I can meditate. But I can't fight. Not like you guys." Jaune said. "What good will meditating do when a giant Grimm appears and tries to eat everyone?"
"Jaune, battle meditation is a very helpful ability. Without it, I doubt we could have taken down that robot. And you communicate with us all in ways that shocked even the masters. But… this is something else, right?" Pyrrha asked.
"It's nothing." Jaune said.
"What are you talking about? You can tell me." Pyrrha said.
"There's this girl who I like, but she doesn't like me back, or so I think." Jaune said. Pyrrha tensed up.
"What happened?"
"I tried seeing if she was even the least bit interested in me, and she shot me down." Jaune said, thinking of Pyrrha.
"Well, I believe the saying goes: There's... plenty of fish in the sea." Pyrrha said, trying to cheer up Jaune.
"But she's not just a fish. She's a mermaid! And she's strong, Smart, Kind… quirky. She helps those who need it the most and takes so much shit for her teammate. She's the best person ever. But… I want to be more than just a project. I want to be someone who she won't have to worry about." Jaune said. Pyrrha looked at him, wondering where this side of Jaune was coming from?
"Who is she?" Pyrrha asked. Jaune's face turned red, and he turned away from her.
"…os" Pyrrha didn't hear it.
"I couldn't hear it?" Pyrrha said.
"Then I won't tell you her name." Jaune said, folding his arms across his chest.
"Can you tell me what she looks like?" Pyrrha asked.
"…Fine. She's just a little shorter than me, with long hair, and a kind smile. And… red hair." Jaune said.
Pyrrha didn't say anything. She was trying to think who fit that description.
Jaune got up and left quickly. Then she realized it was her. But when did she shoot Jaune down?
"Got info on the Champion." Mercury said
"The invincible girl." Cinder said.
"She's smart, but I wouldn't say invincible." Mercury said.
"Her Semblance is Polarity. But you'd never know just by watching." Emerald said. Mercury tapped his metal legs.
"After she made contact with my boots, she was able to move them around however she wanted. But she only made slight adjustments." Mercury said.
"Just enough to make it look like she's untouchable. She doesn't broadcast her power, so it puts her opponent at a disadvantage." Emerald said.
"Hmm... People assume that she's fated for victory when she's really taking fate into her own hands. Interesting. Add her to the list." Cinder said.
"You should be able to take her no problem." Mercury said.
"It's not about overpowering the enemy. It's about taking away what power they have. And we will, in time." Cinder said.
"I hate waiting." Mercury said.
"Don't worry, Mercury. We have a fun weekend ahead of us." Cinder said.
"My lady, we still have that last topic." Cyan said.
"Which is?" Cinder said.
"Rosa. But what I got; I think it's enough to turn her." He tossed her the recording from the bug he planted.
Cinder listened to it and smiled. She laughed.
"She will join us. That is no longer in question."
Author's Notes: Chapter done. This one is a large one. But the Jedi have a temple again. And they'll be able to gather the Jedi again.
