I do not own Buffy: The Vampire Slayer or Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Faith woke up as she got up from the couch and saw Matt preparing the breakfast, which were toasts, scrambled eggs and roasted bacon on two plates.
"Morning." Matt said.
"Morning." Faith said as she approached the table. "Finally, some decent food. I'm tired of buying burgers anyway."
"You never learned how to cook?" Matt asked.
"More like never stayed around long enough to prepare for myself." Faith explained and Matt nodded.
"You know, after our conversation I went out to investigate what else there might be about vampires, from what I'm getting, they usually keep a low profile in big towns like Los Angeles or New York, while sticking around in the likes of Sunnydale and causing bigger trouble due to the Hellmouths."
"Yeah, that kind of sums it up." Faith said.
"Well, one of my friends used to work at Metro-General, her fellow nurses told her that someone's been stealing blood bags from the hospital lately. No one was paying much attention to it, since they thought it was a paperwork issue or something like that but last night, a doctor and a nurse had two piercing marks on their necks and were exsanguinated." Matt explained.
"Drained of blood. Definitely a vampire's M.O." Faith confirmed.
"That's what I'm thinking. I wasn't sure about vampires at first but I have heard rumors about this vampire hunter vigilante, they call him the Daywalker and considering what has also appeared to be truth in the past few years…" Matt trailed off and Faith nodded.
"So, any idea how to track them down?" Faith asked.
"I know someone who might tell me." Matt said with an amused smile.
A black man wearing a flat cap, a black leather jacket, square shirt and having a short beard was whistling as he was putting some crates into his van, when he turned to face the man in black shirt with a scarf around his head, with a dark-haired woman in jean jacket next to her.
"Long time no see, Turk." Matt said as Turk chuckled nervously.
"Hey, whatever you think I did, I didn't—"
"I'm not here because of whatever you did." Matt interrupted. "I just have some questions. Heard of some new players in town? Like to lay low, screw around at night, dropping bodies drained of blood?"
Turk stared at him in surprise.
"Just tell us what you know and we'll leave you alone." Faith said.
"Look, usually I wouldn't decline loads of money but whoever these new guys are, they were giving me chills, and not the good kind, if you hear me." Turk said and they nodded. "Didn't sell them anything, before you ask me, just met them with my… partners. I didn't want anything to do with it, I just went there as a backup, but I gotta tell you, they were creepy."
"Do you know where they hang around?" Matt asked.
"Brownsville. That's all I know." Turk said.
"I didn't think he'd give up that easily." Faith said as they left.
"He's an idiot but he's not that big of an idiot, he knows when he shouldn't mess with certain kind of people." Matt said and she nodded. "Plus, most of the time he's a pussy, all you gotta do is threaten to crack some of his bones and he'll spill all the beans."
Faith chuckled in amusement.
They approached the location they had figured out. Mostly because Matt heard voices but no heartbeat. The abandoned townhouse had wooden planks on the windows and it was half-ruined, which felt like a vampire's hideout for sure, plus, not many places sunlight could go through the windows.
"I hear voices but no heartbeat." Matt said, realizing it was the same like with the Hand. "And I smell blood. Lots of it."
"Definitely the right spot." Faith said, reaching for her stake. "Remember, cut their heads off or stab them with wood in the heart."
"I read 'Dracula.'" Matt said as she chuckled, when they entered the room.
The ceiling fan was hanging at an odd angle, holes were on the walls and ceiling and the floor and then Matt heard snarling and smelled the stench of blood as he turned his head above and threw his billy club as the vampire above them snarled and jumped down as Matt dodged his kick, while Faith punched him in the face and the vampire blocked both Faith's and Matt's blows at once before Matt kicked him in the leg as the vampire fell down and Faith stabbed him in the heart with her stake as the vampire gasped in pain and his face turned normal before he laid down, dead. Another female vampire attacked with claws but Matt used his clubs to block her attacks before he jumped and kicked her in the face as she fell down but she kicked Matt in the legs as he fell down but recovered his footing quickly as he grabbed her. She scratched him across his abdomen but he threw the vampire to the wall where a sharp piece of wood was sticking out as it impaled her as she died, not turning into dust though as her face turned normal.
"Different sorts of vampire." Faith said.
"Should be the last of them." Matt said.
"How can you tell? They have no heartbeats." Faith said.
"Because I don't smell that much blood around anymore and someone else has already swept this place before us. This… Daywalker." Matt said as he noticed how Faith's heartbeat seemed irregular, as if she was… conflicted.
"You're bleeding." Faith said as she noticed Matt's wound.
Back in Matt's apartment, he had been stripped topless as Faith had finished stitching up Matt's wound as she put the needle and the thread away, while examining his chest.
"How could you survive this?" Faith asked, running her hands down his scars.
"Not easily." Matt said as Faith noticed how pained he seemed.
"It never gets easy, does it?" Faith asked.
"With good people at your side who don't give up on you, it might." Matt explained. "There was a time I had pushed everyone away and had given up on everyone and everything except for the Devil after losing…" He sighed. "…someone I care about deeply. After that, I thought that it didn't matter whether I was happy, since I'd lose it anyway. That I was better off as the Devil than Matt Murdock but my friends wouldn't give up on me. They helped me find hope and faith again. Wasn't a pun." He added as they chuckled.
"Yeah. I get that." Faith said. "Long story short with me, I didn't fit in with most people. I tried but… we kinda barely saw eye-to-eye and things just kept getting more and more to a head until I snapped. Lashing out at everyone, hurting them in every imaginable way, despite that they tried to help me and reach me. Then I realized what I was doing was wrong but… I didn't think I could make up for it, so I guess you could say I had a death wish." She remembered Angel helping her and convincing her to turn herself in. "But one of my friends never gave up on me. He made me realize I can't run from what I did, not forever. I owned up to it and turned myself in. The only reason I broke out was because they needed my help and I wouldn't be much use of them behind bars."
Matt sensed how hurt she seemed as he listened to her heartbeat.
"But no matter what I do, I wonder whether what I do is ever going to make up for what I've done." Faith said.
"The fact that you second-guess yourself at every step is a good road to redemption. It's never full of certainty but as long as you know where the line is and when you shouldn't cross it, you know you're on the right track. Even if you can't forgive yourself, if the others can forgive you, you know you're not completely lost. You just need to keep looking for the right way until you find it. As long as you don't give up, there's always hope for you." Matt said as she smiled. Suddenly he sounded like Angel.
"What are you trying to make up for?" Faith asked as she noticed how pained Matt seemed, while she put wet cloth on his chest to wipe the blood.
'This is not the end… This is what living feels like…'
"That's a very long story." Matt said, remembering Elektra's last words when she died in his arms, first at the hands of Nobu, then when Midland Circle crumbled down on them both.
"You're a good man, Matt." Faith said.
"You're not so bad, either." Matt assured as she ran her hands down his breasts before she kissed him, mainly to thank him for his kindness, even if she didn't ask for it.
Matt was caught off-guard at first but gave in after a moment as he reached for her waist and took off her top, exposing her naked chest while he was running his hands across her sides to her breasts as they laid down before Matt pulled away.
"What?" Faith asked.
"Look, Faith, you're a good woman but…" Matt sighed, remembering Elektra and from what Faith had told him about herself, he realized they were not going to last, if she decided to leave anyway. "I don't really think it's gonna go somewhere with us."
"Then let's make it count tonight." Faith said as they chuckled before they resumed kissing, while Matt ran his hands down her back to her waist, taking off her pants, while Faith's hands ran down Matt's abdomen as they began taking off the remaining clothing and Faith moaned as she whipped her head, while she felt Matt giving in, while he let out heavy breaths before she kissed him down his neck to his shoulders and he kissed her on her cheeks, while catching her hair in between his fingers.
I didn't want to make this action-packed, more to explore Matt's and Faith's relationship. Hope I did well and I think you know what Daywalker was Matt talking about, so hope you enjoyed the reference too and hope I did the pairing well.
