It's a warm June morning. The sun is just starting to shine over the bedroom window. The snow from last winter is just about melted for the year. Everything looked like it came right out of a Hallmark movie.
It's about 6:30 A.M. Heather is still asleep in her king-sized bed. Her alarm goes off and she immediately hits it with a pillow. Heather Armstrong may be a lot of things, but a morning person is not one of them. But, alas, she had a morning class she had to go to.
After laying in bed for a good five minutes, Heather finally decides to get up and get ready for the day. It's still pretty early in the morning so her family is most likely still asleep, which gave her peace and quiet. She makes her way to her bathroom to get ready. She quickly brushes her hair before hopping into the shower. After her shower, she blow-dries her hair and puts it into a lazy side braid. Then she puts some makeup on and puts on a plain white shirt with acid-washed ripped jeans.
Heather grabs her bag and walks downstairs to the kitchen. She puts a scoop of cat food into a bowl for Bruiser then grabs her keys. Just as Heather is about to walk out of the door, she hears her family emerge from their rooms.
"Oh, Heather dear!" Heather's mother, Elizabeth, calls out to her daughter.
Heather internally groans then turns around to look at her mother who was still upstairs by the stairs, "Yeah?"
"Would you be a dear and take your sister to her soccer game later today?"
Heather is pretty sure she made a face of pure disgust, "I have plans."
Elizabeth frowns, "You can't keep using your schooling or boyfriend as an excuse to help."
Heather rolls her eyes, "Not my fault you guys burned that bridge."
Her mother's face turns a bright red. Heather wasn't sure if it was from anger or embarrassment, but she didn't stick around to find out. She quickly walks out of the house while her mother is yelling at her to come back inside. Thankfully there wasn't much that her mother could do to her. Heather is paying for her car, gas, and phone, and living in Canada, her schooling was free. Heather was basically independent just without a place of her own.
Heather gets in the car and starts driving to her university. She was pretty confident in the major she chose, business administration and management. This was her second year in college. She could just graduate this year with an associate's degree, but Heather wanted to go for four years and get her bachelor's degree. She was pretty excited to get done with school though. She would be able to move out and finally be on her own. She just had to survive the next two years.
In the meantime though, Heather was working as a hostess at one of the restaurants in town. It wasn't the best paying job, nor was it a job that she even wanted, but it got things done.
Heather really hated living with her parents. In all honesty, she just hated her family, her parents in particular. A huge reason why Heather's the way she is is because of her parents. She was never good enough for them. Heather wasn't as successful as her older sister, Nicole. Heather wasn't into sports like her younger brother, Damian. Heather wasn't as rich as her older brother, Logan. Heather wasn't the perfect child like her little sister, Lillian. Heather was just… Heather. Even from a young age, Heather knew that her parents didn't like her as much as her other siblings. Heather knew that she wasn't the best child to raise but her parents always tried to find the easy way out. They even resorted to using electric therapy on her. Heather had nothing but rage for her parents.
When Heather gets to her university, she was 15 minutes early. Meaning, Heather didn't have to run to her class. Walking to her class, Heather saw other students going on with their day. Heather didn't know any of them. Friends were something she never worried about. Who needed them anyway? Friends only slow you down.
By the time Heather got to her class, she still had 5 minutes to spare. The class, Statistics and Economics, was the only class that Heather particularly hated. It had Miss "I Was A C.I.T" in it. Even after Total Drama, Heather and Courtney never got along. Courtney was too prissy for Heather and Heather was too much of a bitch (though if you asked Heather, she would say that Courtney was more of a bitch than she was).
And speaking of the devil herself, Courtney walks into the classroom. She takes one good look at Heather then storms off to her desk. What was her deal? Heather only rolls her eyes and sits at her own desk.
After Heather was done with everything for that class, her mind started to wander. Particularly, wander off to a certain person. It's been little over a year since Heather and Alejandro started officially dating. As one suspected, they argued a lot. But most of the time it was over petty things and a short time later they would just forget they even had the argument in the first place. Alejandro was Heather's first legitimate boyfriend. Yeah, she had boyfriends in the past but none of them made her feel the way she felt for Alejandro. Not that she would ever tell him that. He has a big ego as it is. Heather never understood why she felt so different with Alejandro. She dated guys like him. Like Justin for example. It could be the simple fact that Alejandro gives his time and attention to her, something that Heather never experienced in a positive way. All her life, Heather had to work to gain someone's attention. She never had someone willingly give their undivided attention to her.
The other nice thing about Alejandro was that he is extremely patient with Heather. Heather can't recall a time where Alejandro yelled at her or stormed off. He always gave her some space if she needed it, but at the same time gave her affection when she needed it. The one thing that made their relationship super rocky was that Heather didn't want to have sex yet. It wasn't like she didn't want to, it was more like she was scared to. But Alejandro gave her all the time in the world to be ready. Heather secretly really appreciated that. And, honestly, when she was ready, it was even better than she ever thought.
Heather and Alejandro's first anniversary was 2 months ago. They did the normal things that couples do like go out to dinner and enjoy each other's company. But when they got back to Alejandro's apartment, all reason flew out the window. That night Heather was more than ready to have intercourse with him. Heather knew that Alejandro wasn't a virgin like she was, but he was still as patient as ever with her. The only scary part was when the condom broke inside her, but Heather reassured him that she was on birth control. And she was.
Heather didn't know how to feel about kids. She liked some kids, like her nephews from her sister Nicole. But she also disliked some kids, like her nieces and nephews from her brother Logan. The idea of having a kid terrified Heather to no end. She had no idea if she would be a good mother or not. A lot of people say that she wouldn't because of her past on Total Drama. People tend to forget that she was a really stupid teenager on national television.
A part of Heather just knew that Alejandro would thrive as a father. She doesn't really know how he feels about kids but when she sees him interact with his nieces, she gets a weird warm fuzzy feeling inside her gut. Despite what people think, Alejandro is great with kids. He has 2 nieces from his oldest brother, Carlos. Those girls love Alejandro. He's the favorite uncle between him and José.
Alejandro's family are actually pretty nice to Heather. His mother, María, took the longest to warm up to her, but now they're on good terms. Heather doesn't really get a chance to talk to the men of the family though. Alejandro's father, Salvador, was always away overseas, Carlos was gone on tours most of the time, and José was also overseas attending college in France. But Heather did get along with Carlos' wife Alicia and José's girlfriend Sheila. Alicia's a very quiet and reserved person, even though she's from the Dominican Republic. She tried to do things herself so she doesn't have to 'bother' people. Because of that, Carlos had to keep a super eye on her when she was pregnant with Celestina and Izabella. Sheila was someone you didn't want to mess with. Because she was a daughter of a Bajan farmer from Barbados, she was a hard worker who knew how to get things done. She's outspoken, rude, and cunning. Sheila was a soul sister to Heather.
Two hours later class ends. Heather starts walking back to her car. She didn't want to go home after what happened with her mother that morning. It was noon. Heather could go get a coffee. Yeah. She will go get a coffee.
Heather gets into her car and drives over to a nearby coffee shop. It wasn't a big coffee shop, but it had a cute vibe to it. Heather gets out of her car and walks in. Usually Heather loved the smell of roasted coffee with sugar, but the second she smelt it, Heather immediately felt sick to her stomach. She quickly walks out of the coffee shop. She stood there in pure confusion. That has never happened before.
Coffee was a no then.
The next morning Heather woke up to the worst case of nausea she ever felt. She quickly got up and ran to her bathroom to empty out her stomach. This was the first time she threw up like this in years.
"God fucking damnit…" Heather groans to herself.
She cleans herself up and walks back to her room. She then flops onto her bed and groans more. Heather was about to fall back to sleep when her phone went off. She grabs it from her nightstand and answers it without seeing who it was.
"What?" Heather asked groggily.
"Mi amor? You sound awful." Great. It was Alejandro.
"I'm fine." She grumbles, just wanting to go back to sleep.
The Latino wasn't convinced, "You're not. What's going on, chica?"
Heather groans for the third time that day, "It's nothing!"
There was a few seconds of silence before Alejandro said, "I'm coming over." He then hangs up before Heather could object.
"Fucking jerk." Heather says before she lays her back down.
