The Perfect Valentine's Day

Maddie had worked extremely hard to get herself back in shape after having twins and while her body was less than perfect, it would be good for her surprise for her very tired and stressed husband who had just returned from the latest war. It was over, but Mike had missed the twin's birth and the first four months of their lives. He was struggling bonding with them, busy at work and trying to remodel their house. But, Maddie had planned one night when he didn't have to worry about the babies crying anytime he walked in the room, work or the house. Her mom had volunteered to watch Aaron and Addyson and Maddie had gotten a nice hotel room and made reservations at one of Mike's favorite restaurants.

Her mom was there in time for Maddie to shower and get ready, and Mike walked in at six, looking exhausted. He had forgotten Valentine's but Maddie didn't mind. This one year, she would take care of everything. He looked down at her dress and groaned.

"Valentine's? Shit. I forgot. I didn't get you anything." Mike said. Maddie gave him a smile before putting a bottle in the fridge.

"Don't worry about that. I need you to go upstairs, change into your suit and pack a bag. I got us a hotel room for tonight. Mom's going to watch the twins and told me she doesn't want us back until after lunch." Maddie said. She gave him a kiss and pushed him towards the stairs.

"Isn't it my job to take care of this stuff?" Mike asked.

"It is and I will hold you to it next year, but I got you this year." Maddie answered.

"Thank you." Mike said before heading up the stairs. Maddie also went up but to check on her mom and the babies. As soon as Mike walked into the nursery, Aaron started crying. Maddie knew it bothered him, but he gave Aaron a kiss and tickled Addyson's belly.

"Ready?" Maddie asked.

"Yeah. Leigh, are you sure you are okay with them?" Mike asked, addressing Maddie's mom. She adored Mike, maybe even a bit more than she loved Maddie and she had been worried about him.

"Of course. You enjoy your time and don't worry about the babies." Leigh answered. She gave both Mike and Maddie a kiss on the cheek.

"Mom; I fixed up the guest room for you and there's extra fixed bottles in the fridge. You'll just have to heat them up. You call me if you need anything." Maddie said.

"Thanks, honey. Go and enjoy yourself." Leigh said. Maddie kissed both babies and followed Mike out. He grabbed both their bags and put them in the back of Maddie's SUV.

"Where are we going? The least I can do is drive." Mike asked. She handed him the key and smiled as they got in and he backed out of the driveway.

"First, McGinty's. Then the hotel across the street. Figured we'd park in the parking garage, check in at the hotel and walk over to eat. Our reservation is at seven thirty at McGinty's." Maddie explained.

"Works. You picked my favorite restaurant?" Mike asked.

"I know how you feel about sushi. I can handle steak one night." Maddie said.

"It sounds like a nice night. I'm glad I'm off tomorrow." Mike told her.

"Me too. More than anything; I wanted you to have one night where you weren't stressed about anything." Maddie said.

"I don't like that I forgot to get you anything." Mike said.

"Don't worry about that. I honestly didn't get you anything tangible either. Just wanted you to relax." Maddie said.

"Thank you for understanding." Mike said simply. He continued the drive, and finally pulled into the parking garage. Five minutes later, they were checked in and Mike had carried the bags upstairs to their room. Maddie was beginning to get hungry and finally she and Mike walked across the street to the restaurant. They were seated immediately, and made their orders. Mike even ordered himself a beer, something he didn't always do.

He thoroughly enjoyed his steak and drank a second beer. Maddie was beginning to worry he would be too drunk for the second part of her plan, but he was unwinding. There was a game on the TV at the bar that Mike was enjoying. Maddie didn't even mind that he was somewhat focused on that, because she could see him becoming more light-hearted. They shared a piece of chocolate cake and Maddie smiled at Mike as he watched the end of the game.

"So, I will give you the option, because I know how you like being at home. We can go back home, or go to the hotel?" Maddie offered, hoping Mike would choose the hotel.

"Hotel. I am looking forward to sleeping through the night." Mike remarked.

"Good, but I don't intend on you sleeping through the night." Maddie said as she winked at Mike. She worried he wouldn't understand due to how exhausted he was, but he immediately smiled.

"Hence the dress and high heels." Mike said.

"Hmm. The dress is conservative compared to what's underneath and what's in my bag." Maddie said. Mike gestured for the waitress and asked for the ticket. He paid and helped Maddie back into her coat. They held hands as they walked back across the street and all the way to the hotel room. As soon as Mike closed the door; he gave her a long kiss, probably the longest kiss he'd ever given her. Or at least since he returned home.

"I love you." Mike said simply.

"I love you too." Maddie answered. She reached up and untied Mike's tie and smiled as he reached around and unzipped the dress.

"Please? You have me intrigued." Mike asked. Maddie smiled in response and stepped out of the shoes and then shrugged the dress off. Mike whistled and then gave Maddie another kiss.

"Not quite the same as before the babies." Maddie said. The lingerie had been expensive. Black. Lacy. With some straps. Just what Mike preferred, if not a simple nightgown; which was also in the bag.

"You are so beautiful." Mike said.

"And I'm cold." Maddie admitted and Mike laughed. He grabbed her hand and led her to the bed; all while taking his shoes, blazer, and tie. Maddie unbuttoned the shirt and worked on Mike's belt. Finally, she sighed in frustration.

"How about I get undressed and you fix the bed? And, Maddie; did you pack any condoms? I wasn't even sure I still had any and we haven't done anything since I got home." Mike asked, obviously worried.

"In my bag. I'll get them out." Maddie said. She gave Mike a long kiss and a push into the bathroom. She quickly fixed the bed and put the condoms on the nightstand. Neither her or Mike were ready for another baby. Finally, Mike walked back out in his boxers and smiled at Maddie. She had also put the nightgown on the end of the bed. She held her hand out and he took it.

"I feel a little bit bad about leaving the babies. I need to get to know them. Not spend time away but I know I also need to do this." Mike admitted. He sat down next to her on the bed and picked at his hand.

"You need to relax a bit. I think they know you are tense." Maddie said. She got in behind Mike and began massaging his back and shoulders. She could feel the tension radiating through the muscles and she could also feel Mike slowly relaxing.

"Didn't realize how good you were at this." Mike remarked.

"Yeah. I should have done it sooner. Valentine's just seemed like a good day. So, I have a nightgown or do you prefer this?" Maddie asked.

"This is fine, but you won't be wearing it for long. I like the lace." Mike said as he gently pulled Maddie to where she was straddling him.

"Good. Nightgown has lace too." Maddie remarked.

"You can wear that for round two." Mike answered as he unhooked the bra and turned Maddie to where she was laying on the bed, all while kissing her.

"I love you." Maddie said and Mike smiled back at her.

"I love you too, and next year; I will make sure you have a good Valentine's Day since you've spoiled me with this one." Mike said.

"You'd better." Maddie teased. More than anything; she was glad Mike was unwinding. It made for the perfect Valentine's Day.
