In Emerald Hill a young yellow two tailed fox was in a lift taking up an apartment building. He was wearing headphones listening to music "I wanna fly high! So, I can reach the highest of all the heavens. Somebody will be. Waiting for me so. I've got to fly higher". He had a bag over his right shoulder an old computer in his left hand. He took out his keys and entered an apartment and sees a female rabbit sitting on the couch with someone "Hey, Bunnie" "Hey" the rabbit responded in a southern accent "How was school today?". The fox walked into the kitchen "It was okay. By the way there's this crazy car parked outside". He looks over and realises the person with Bunnie was Sonic. He looked over to the fox "Oh, Mr Prower". The fox removes his earphones and tries to get the words out "Um, what… What're you? Uh, hey, I'm Miles. But everyone calls me Tails" "Sonic". Tails awkwardly crossed his arms "What're you-What're you doing here?" "It's about time we met".
As Sonic was facing Tails Bunnie mouthed "What the fuck?" excitedly to Tails. Sonic either didn't notice or pretended not to "You've been getting my emails, right" he winked. Tails glanced at Bunnie "Yeah. Yeah. Right? Regarding the…" "You didn't even tell me about the grant" "About the grant". Sonic nodded "The September Foundation. Remember when you applied?" "Yeah" "I approved, so now we're in business". Bunnie shrugged clearly annoyed "But you didn't tell me anything. What's up with that? You keeping secrets from me now?" "I just love how much you love surprises so I thought I would let you know… Anyway, what did I apply for?". Sonic pointed at him "That's what I'm here to hash out" "Okay. Hash it out, okay". Sonic smiled and pointed at Bunnie "It's so hard for me to believe that she's someone's aunt". She chuckled "Well, we come in all shapes and sizes, Sugah". Sonic took food from the plate "This walnut date loaf is exceptional". Tails raised his hand "Let me just stop you there. Is this grant got money involved or whatever? No?" "Yeah, it's pretty well funded. Look who you're talking to". Sonic turned to Bunnie "Could I have five minutes with him" "Sure".
They go to Tails' room, Sonic locks the door and then spits the walnut loaf into a bin. He scanned the room and saw a desk with old computers sitting on it "Whoa, what have we here? Retro tech, huh? Thrift store? Salvation Army?" "Uh, the garbage, actually" "You're a dumpster diver?". Tails nodded "Yeah, I was… Anyway, look, um, I definitely did not apply for your grant" "Ah-ah! Me first. Okay. Quick question of the rhetorical variety". Sonic takes out his phone and it projects a hologram of a kuku trying to rob a car. Someone in a black suit who seemed to have a propeller spinning above him suddenly flew in knocked over the kuku "That's you, right?". Tails stared at the image "Um, no. What-what do you mean?". Another video showed the black suited boy stop a car dead from hitting a bus "Look at you go. Wow! Nice catch. 3,000 pounds, 40 miles an hour". The boy then quickly flew away before anyone could get a good look at him "That's not easy. You got mad skills" "That's all, uh, on the internet though, right? I mean that's where you found that? Because you know that's all fake. It's all done on the computer. It's like that video". Sonic sarcastically nodded as he looked around "Yeah. Oh, you mean like those UFOs. What have we here?".
Sonic hits a small door on the ceiling which dropped a black suit. Tails quickly rushed forward, grabbed it, and put it out of sight. He nervously turned back to Sonic "Uh" "So you're the Prowl". Tails crossed his arms petulantly "Please don't. I hate that name". Sonic could relate to that "Well, you can't work in that onesie" "It's not a onesie. And I have to keep my tails out of sight. There aren't a lot of people with two, you know?". He stepped away "I was actually having a really good day today, Mr Sonic. Didn't miss my train, this perfectly working DVD player was just sitting there and Algebra test, nailed it". Sonic took out the suit "Who else knows? Anybody?". Tails leaned against his desk and shook his head "Nobody" "Not even your unusually attractive aunt?" "No. No! If she knew, she would freak out. And when she freaks out, I freak out". Sonic nodded "You know what I think is really cool? The way you fly. Spinning your tails, you must have a lot of strength. How'd you get like this"?" "It's a long story". Sonic looked through the lenses on the ninja suit "Oh, Gaia. Can you even see in these?". Tails took the suit and put it away "Yes, I can see in those. Okay? It's just that when whatever happened, it's like my senses have been dialed to eleven. There's way too much input so they just kind of help me focus. And I'm suddenly able to spin my Tails so fast I can fly" "You're in dire need of some upgrades. That's why I'm here".
Tails sighs and sits on his bed. Sonic stares at him "Why you doing this? I gotta know, what's your MO? What gets you outta that twin bed in the morning?". Tails paused and looked down at his own hands "Because… Um… Because I've been me my whole life, and I've had these powers for six months. I read books; I build computers. And, yeah, I would love to play football, but I couldn't then, so I shouldn't now" "Sure, because you're different". Tails nodded "Exactly. But I can't tell anybody that, so I'm not. When you can do the things that I can, but you don't". Sonic leans forward in his chair and listens intently "And then the bad things happen they happen because of you". Sonic looks affected by his words but he hides it "So, you wanna look out for the little guy, you wanna do your part? Make the world a better place, all that, right?". Tails looked like there was more but quickly nodded "Yeah, yeah. Just looking out for the little guy. That's what it is". Sonic gets up and steps over to Tails whose leg is stretched over the bed "I'm gonna sit here, so you move the leg". Tails does so and Sonic sits beside him. He hesitantly puts his hand on Tails' shoulder "You got a passport?" "No, I don't even have a driver's license" "You ever been to Echidnaopolis?". Tails was confused "No" "Oh, you'll love it". Tails' eyes opened wide "I can't go to Echidnaopolis" "Why?" "I… got homework". Sonic rolled his eyes "I'm gonna pretend you didn't' say that" "No, I'm being serious. I can't just drop out of school". Sonic got up "Might be a little dangerous. Better tell Aunt Hottie I'm taking you on a field trip". He headed for the door. Tails got up and his tails spun, and he rushed forward at high-speed shutting the door "Don't tell Aunt Bunnie". Sonic nodded "Alright, Tails". They share an earnest look and then "Get out of my way" "Sorry".
Silver was sitting alone in the dark recreation room. He had a ball in his hand which he was throwing up with his powers. He then dropped it and let if fall back into his hand. He kept repeating this looking very bored until an explosion went off outside. Silver ran to the glass window and looked out to see a fire. Blaze suddenly phased through the floor next to him "Please stay here" she flies out towards the fire. Silver waits and then hears something behind him. He grabs knife from the kitchen, and he turns and make the knife stop in front of the face of Whisper the Wolf wearing her mask. She pushes the knife away "Guess I should have knocked" she took off her mask. Silver relaxed "What're you doing here?" "Disappointing my kids. We were supposed to go water-skiing". She uses her wispon and fires two small dark purple objects on the walls. She gestures for the door "Shadow needs our help. Come on". Before either of them move, Blaze phases back into the room "You should not be here". Whisper turns to her and puts her mask back on "Really? I retired for what, like five minutes and it all goes to shit". Blaze slowly walked towards her "Please consider the consequences of your actions" "Okay, they're considered". Blaze walked in between the two devices on the walls.
They both starts pulling on Blaze keeping her in place. Whisper shrugged and turned to Silver "Alright, let's go". She runs to the door, but Silver doesn't move. She turns back to him "It's this way". Silver crosses his arms and glances away "I've caused enough problems". Whisper sighed and walked back over to him "Come on, kid. Moping is for high school. You wanna make amends then get off your ass". Whisper then looks back and sees Blaze raise her hands "Shit". Blaze shot fireballs in both directions destroying the devices. Whisper raises her wispon but Blaze rushes forward and pushes her back. She slowly got back up "Should've stayed home". A pink saw came out of her wispon, and she swung at Blaze, but it went right through. Blaze gets her in a headlock "You can't overpower me" "I know I can't. But he can". Silver was glowing cyan "Blaze, let her go. I'm leaving" "Please, don't do this, Silver". Silver moves his hands and Blaze turns pink. Whisper falls through her arms "I'm sorry". Blaze begins to slowly fall to the ground "Please. They won't stop being afraid of you" the ground begins to break around her. Silver steps closer "I can't control their fear, only my own". Blaze falls through multiple floors and then through the ground. Silver and Whisper both stare down the newly created hole "Wow. Alright, let's go. We got another stop".
Espio was walking to a car with two wolves "Our satellites are running facial, biometric and behavioural pattern scans". Rouge was standing at the car. One of the wolves walked ahead of Espio and faced Rouge "Move or you will be moved". Espio stepped forward smiling "As entertaining as that would be…". Rouge glanced at him "You really think you can find her?" "My resources are considerable". Espio was about to get into his car but "Yeah, it took the world 70 years to find Kintobor so you could probably do that in about half the time". Espio stopped and turned back to her "You know where they are" "I know someone who does".
Under an overpass Shadow got out of a car and met with Shade who walked out of hers. Shade glanced at Shadow's car which was an old buggy "Not sure you understand the concept of a getaway car" "It's low profile" "Good because this stuff tends to draw a crowd". She opened her boot revealing Bark's board and Shadow's chaos emerald. In the buggy Maria was siting behind Bark "Can you move your seat up?" "No" he answered without looking at her. Shadow smirked "I owe you again" "Keeping a list". She glanced into the car and saw Maria move to the other side "You know, she kinda tried to kill me" "Sorry, I'll put it on the list, too". He frowned guiltily "They're going to come looking for you" "I know" "Thank you, Shade". She smiles and there was silence between the two for a moment. Shadow sighed and suddenly pulled her kissed. After a moment they stop and Shadow smirks, "That was…" "Late?" "Damn right. I should go". She gives a final nervous look before getting in her car. Shadow smiles pleased with himself and took the emerald and board. He turns to head back to the other car and sees that Maria and Bark were both smirking and nodding at him.
They drive into a car park at an airport. They stop next to a grey van. Whisper and Silver both get out of the van "Shads". Shadow shook her hand "You know I wouldn't have called if I had any other choice". She shrugged "Hey, you're doing me a favour. Besides, I owe a debt". Shadow nods to Silver "Thanks for having my back". Silver shrugged "It was time to get off my ass" "How about our other recruit?". Whisper walked up to the van "He's raring to go. Had to put a little coffee in him". She opened the door and Manic the Hedgehog was lying in the back and was woken up. He groans and gets up "What time zone is this?". He then sees Shadow and walks over shaking his hand "Shadow the Hedgehog!" "Mr Manic". Manic kept shaking "It's an honour. I'm a… I'm shaking your hand too long. Wow! This is awesome!". He looked back at Silver and pointed at Shadow "That's Shadow the Hedgehog. And I know you, too. You're great". Silver smiles and awkwardly nods. Manic turns back to Shadow "Ah, look, I wanna say, I know you know a lot of super people, so thanks for thinking of me". He then notices Bark glaring at him "Hey, man!" "What's up, Tic Tac?" "Uh, good to see you. Look, what happened last time when I-" "It was a great audition, but it'll never happen again". Shadow rolled his eyes "They tell you what we're up against?" "Something about some psycho-assassins? My armour would have been useful for that, but I couldn't get it" "We're outside the law on this one. So, if you come with us, you're a wanted man". Manic casually shrugged "Yeah, well, what else is new?". Maria got out of the car "We should get moving" "We got a chopper lined up" Whisper said. They suddenly heard a voice over the PA. Maria was the only one that understood it "They're evacuating the airport". Bark crossed his arms "Sonic" "Sonic?" Manic said surprised. Shadow looked to the group "Suit up".
