TW: Does it matter? Does it really impact the show one way or another if River was or wasn't lying?
Screw Loose: I'm not sure why you think there is a difference, but there isn't one. And even if there were, you would still be in the wrong. You have a right to your opinion, what you do not have a right to do is to come onto someone's story and make demands (and that is what you were doing, whether you think so or not) of me or any other writer here. That is not only entitled, but extremely rude.
The Doctor tells everyone to look up. Confused, everyone lifts their heads to find they are no longer in the chamber, but in a dimly lit room.
"Uh, am I hallucinating or did they just teleport somewhere?" Mickey asked as the past viewers looked at the screen in bewilderment.
"It's explained in a moment," Jane promised with a slight smile.
Amy asks where they are and River says where they were. The Doctor tells Amy to move her feet before using his screwdriver on an opening in the floor. Amy doesn't understand what happened and The Doctor explains the ship crashed with the power still on. The recording turns upside down, revealing that they're now standing upside down on the bottom of the Byzantium.
"Of course," Jack laughed as he put it all together. "The Byzantium has artificial gravity."
"So when The Doctor told them to jump and blew up the Gravity Globe, the artificial gravity dragged them to the bottom of the ship," Martha laughed as they all caught on. "That's brilliant."
"Still, that only bought them a little time," Mickey noted uneasily.
"Time is all The Doctor needs to come up with a plan," Donna said certainly.
"Well, I hope you're right Donna. For everyone's sake," Jack said, not able to shake the uneasy feeling.
The Doctor explains the ship's artificial gravity is still on, dragging them all up when they jumped. Octavian points out the statues look more like Angels now and The Doctor explains they're feeding off the radiation from the ship as they all look down at the Angels. The Doctor estimates they have an hour.
"An hour isn't long," Wilf said uneasily.
"For a Time Lord, an hour can mean the difference between life and death," Jane said confidently. "They have time Wilf. Don't worry so much."
"Easy for you to say," Mickey muttered.
The Doctor opens the opening and the lights begin to explode. Realizing the Angels are taking out the lights, The Doctor orders everyone to look at the Angels. Once he has the opening fully open, The Doctor jumps inside, ordering everyone to follow quickly. Amy asks how, peaking her head inside as she sees him land on his feet on the floor. The Doctor explains the gravity orientates to the floor, ordering them to follow but not to take their eyes off the Angels. More lights explode as Octavian orders his men inside the ship. The Doctor uses his screwdriver on a panel inside as they head inside, the door closing behind them. Octavian asks if the Angel could jump up to but The Doctor reveals they're already inside the ship.
"Oh Bloody brilliant!" Donna groaned.
"It was either take their chances out there or head inside. At least this way they have a chance," Jane pointed out.
"But how much of one? These are Weeping Angels. Not to mention there's still one in Amy's head," Martha noted uneasily.
"Haven't you guys learned by now? All Dad needs is a small chance to turn this thing around," Jane said with a slight smile.
An alarm blares as a steel casing begins to lock them in, blocking the corridor. The Doctor and Octavian rush towards it but can do nothing to stop it locking them in.
"This could not get worse," Jack declared.
"And now it will. When will you lot learn, when you say it can't worse, it does!" Donna snapped annoyed.
Octavian declares the ship is a deathtrap but The Doctor calls it a deathtrap and a bomb, along with a dead end. The Doctor tells no one to panic as they hear the outside lights continuing to blow. "Just me then," The Doctor notes when no one else reacts. The Doctor asks what's down the corridor and River tells him the secondary flight deck. Amy asks what happens if the gravity fails and The Doctor says he's thought about that, revealing they'll plunge to their deaths.
"Great pep talk Boss," Mickey said sarcastically.
"Pep talks were never Dad's strong suit, you know that. He was never one to mince words either," Jane shrugged.
"Tell us something we don't know," Jack said dryly.
The Doctor says it's impossible to override the security protocols. River asks how impossible and he says two minutes before they hear the sound of the ship beginning to power down and the lights go out. Octavian realizes the hull has been breached.
"See, it gets worse every time you say it can't!" Donna snapped as she glared at Jack.
"Okay, okay, we'll stop saying that," Jack gave in, wondering if Donna might be onto something.
"It does seem to get worse every time we say it can't," Martha noted and Donna waved her hand in a 'see?' motion. "Donna might have a point."
They see the arm of an Angel from outside and The Doctor frantically tries to get the lights back on. When they come back on, they see four Angels have entered the ship.
"They're trapped and surrounded. They need to get out of there," Mickey said uneasily.
"Well, short of blowing open the steel casing, there's not anywhere they can go," Jack said uneasily.
The Doctor tells them to keep looking at them but not in the eyes. The Doctor explains he's made it impossible for the Angels to draw the power from the ship, earning a compliment from Octavian. The Doctor says he's glad Octavian likes it so far before explaining the only way to open the door is to reroute the power in this section of the ship through the door control, but he'll have to turn out the lights.
"With Angels on board? That's suicide!" Martha exclaimed horrified.
"So is staying there hoping if they keep looking that it'll keep the Angels at bay," Jack said grimly.
"It's a risk turning out the lights, but it's Dad's only real option right now," Jane agreed.
"Sometimes in battle, you have to judge risk verses reward," Mickey noted, remembering many times he had done the same thing. "And the risk here is worth the reward."
"I hope you're right Mickey," Donna muttered.
Octavian asks for how long and The Doctor says a fraction of a second, maybe longer. The Doctor admits he's only guessing as there isn't a manual for this. Amy argues that they'll be in total darkness but The Doctor says there's no other way. Octavian asks River is she trusts The Doctor and she says she does absolutely. Octavian asks if The Doctor is a madman and River repeats herself.
"He's a madman with a box," Martha said with a slight smile.
"Probably a good thing to, otherwise half his plans would probably never work," Jack shrugged.
"Because no sane man would come up with this stuff," Mickey noted and none of them disagreed.
As The Doctor gets to work, Octavian whispers to River that she's the only one who can manage The Doctor, which will only work as long as he doesn't know who she is. Should anymore of his men die, Octavian threatens to tell The Doctor.
"More stellar leadership from Octavian then," Donna said sarcastically.
"Now is not the time to let your personal issues with River affect your judgment," Wilf said angrily.
"Don't be too hard on him. He does have good reason to distrust River," Jane told them. "He's doing the best he can with the limited information he has about River."
"Let me guess, has to do with why she's in prison?" Martha asked and Jane nodded. "And you're not going to tell us, are you?"
"Nope," Jane said with a smile that reminded them so much of The Doctor the past viewers couldn't help but laugh.
River says she understands before getting to work. Octavian tells The Doctor they have his back before ordering his men into position, telling them to open fire once the lights go out. The Doctor instructs Amy to spin the wheel four times, correcting her when she says ten. The Doctor announces they're ready and, on Octavian's signal, the lights go out. Octavian's men open fire on the Angels, the bullets sparking off the Angels and bringing light to the room as Amy frantically turns the wheel. The wheel opens and everyone frantically runs through the opening, The Doctor being the last one inside before it closes.
"Oh thank God," Donna said as they all breathed a sigh of relief.
"Not sure I can take much more of this," Wilf said tiredly.
"You and me both Wilf," Martha said as she put a hand to her chest.
"Sometimes I wonder if the Angels were just trying to give everyone a heart attack," Jane mused.
"Knowing the Angels, it wouldn't surprise me," Martha scoffed.
They run through the corridor, coming upon a steel door. The Doctor used his screwdriver to open it and they rush inside, The Doctor once again being the last one to enter. The group realizes they're in the ship's control room. The Doctor, River and Amy head to the controls as Octavian places a device on the door that causes the lock to turn, Octavian explaining that he magnetized the door. Nothing can turn the wheel now. "Yeah?" The Doctor asked. To Octavian's disbelief, the Angels begin to turn the wheel from the outside.
"Hasn't he figured out by now that normal laws of physics don't apply to these things?" Mickey asked dryly as they all felt the tension risking.
"He's a Bishop in the 51st Century. Don't bet on it," Jane said bluntly.
The Doctor says that Octavian has bought them some time when Amy points out a side entrance with the wheel turning. One of Octavian's men quickly magnetizes it, the other entrances quickly following suit. River declares they're surrounded and Octavian asks The Doctor how long they have. Five minutes The Doctor says. Amy says nine. The Doctor says five, asking why she said nine. "I didn't," Amy said.
"What's with the counting?" Mickey asked as they looked at the screen in bewilderment.
"It's the Angel," Martha realized, looking at Jane confirmation and Jane nodded. "It's making her countdown."
"In the corridor, she said ten. Now she just said nine. What's it making her countdown to?" Donna asked uneasily.
"Nothing good," Jane said grimly.
River says they need another way out only for Octavian to argue there isn't one. The Doctor realizes this is a Galaxy Class Ship, which goes for years between planets. He asks River what the ship needs and she catches on. Amy is confused as Octavian asks if they can get in 'there'. The Doctor notes it's a sealed united but they must have installed it somehow as he goes over to the wall, inspecting it. The Doctor says the wall should slide up before realizing the clamps are keeping it at bay.
"Of course," Jack laughed as he put it together while the other past viewers looked at him confused. "Cheers for small miracles."
"Feel like sharing Jack?" Mickey asked dryly.
"It's explained in a moment, just watch," Jane told them.
As The Doctor and soldiers begin uninstalling the clamps, Amy asks what they need. "They need to breathe," River tells her. Once the clamps are removed, the doors all unlock before the wall lifts, revealing a forest on the other side.
"Getting really tired of asking this, but am I seeing things or is there a forest on the spaceship?" Mickey asked as most of the past viewers stared at the screen in disbelief.
"No, we see it to," Donna said in a bit of shock.
"It's an Oxygen Factory. Like The Doctor said, Galaxy Class Ships could travel for years between trips. For their survival and sanity, the crew implanted Oxygen Factories on the ship so they could breathe and so they wouldn't go mad from being cooped up on the ship for so long," Jack explained.
"So they don't need to depend on multiple tanks and stop to refuel," Martha said, seeing the logic in it.
"And sometimes the crew probably needed a break from the ship," Mickey noted.
Amy stared at it in astonishment as River explains that the forest is an oxygen factory, The Doctor pointing out it might also be their escape route. "Eight," Amy said.
"And there goes the counting again," Martha muttered.
"Why is it making her count?" Donna wondered.
"Why do the Angels do anything? To taunt her," Jane said darkly.
River asks what she meant and Amy dismisses it. The Doctor tells Octavian and his men to scan the Oxygen factory to avoid getting lost. As Octavian goes to do just that, Amy is marveling at trees on a spaceship. The Doctor assures her there's more than trees, promising she'll love it as he walks into the forest. The Doctor pulls off some moss, revealing wiring inside the tree. The Doctor calls it tree borgs, tree plus technology.
"Incredible," Wilf said, looking delightful while Mickey and Martha looked stunned.
"I figured," Donna mused, smiling at Martha and Mickey's surprised looks. "A forest wouldn't last long on a spaceship, neither would oxygen. Figured it had to be part tech."
"It's annoying how smart you are now," Martha said only half joking and Donna shrugged.
The Doctor explains to Amy how it all works and asks if she's impressed. Amy suddenly laughs before she says seven.
"And now we've reached seven," Jack said as they all watched with interest.
The Doctor suddenly walks over, pointing out she just seven. But Amy doesn't seem to remember it until River backs up The Doctor. Octavian tells The Doctor they've found an exit. The Doctor distractedly acknowledges this as he examines Amy's face. Bob's voice then comes over The Doctor's radio.
"Great, Angel Bob is back," Mickey said sarcastically.
"Why even contact them?" Martha wondered.
"To antagonize The Doctor. They want to put him off his game, hoping he makes a mistake," Jack said grimly. "The Doctor needs to remain calm."
'Angel Bob' asks for The Doctor and he picks up the radio, sarcastically asking him how life is. Angel Bob tells him the Angels want to know what The Doctor hopes to achieve and The Doctor gives a flippant response, telling him about the forest. But his good humor vanishes when Angel Bob tells him the Angels are feasting. "Soon they will be able to absorb enough power to consume this vessel, this world and all the stars and worlds beyond," Angel Bob says chillingly.
"The whole universe, overrun with Weeping Angels," Martha shuttered at the thought. "Don't let it come to that Doctor."
"I'm sure he didn't. Depending on the year, I'm probably running around there as a Time Agent. I'd have heard about something like Weeping Angels on the rise," Jack said confidently.
"Hope you're right Jack, for everyone's sake," Donna muttered as they all watched the screen uneasily.
The Doctor says they have comfy chairs, which Bob points out the Angels have no need of. The Doctor laughs over making Bob says comfy chairs when Amy says six. The Doctor gets to his feet, demanding to know what the Angels have done to Amy. Bob says there's something in her eye and Amy demands what. "We are," Angel Bob says.
"Well at least now they know," Wilf said, trying to be optimistic.
"But if they're telling The Doctor now, it means they don't think he can do anything about it," Jack noted.
"Well these things always do celebrate before they win. That's a mistake," Mickey said certainly.
The Doctor looks Amy in the eyes as she tries to say she's fine, but fine turns into 'five'. Realizing what she said, she tries again but it comes out five again. Amy finally manages to say fine as River realizes she's counting. The Doctor adds she's counting down from ten. She asks why and to what, neither of which The Doctor knows. "We shall take her. We shall take all of you," Angel Bob taunts.
Jane fought a wince, barely. An Angel had taken Amy after all. Just not this one.
The Doctor picks up the radio, mocking Bob to 'get a life'. The Doctor points out there's not that much power on the ship but Angel Bob disagrees. Suddenly, the sound of loud, animal like shrieking is heard as everyone looks around in bewilderment. Angel Bob explains that the Angels are laughing.
"Blimey. That's one of the most disturbing things I've ever heard," Donna muttered uncomfortably.
"Even just the thought of Weeping Angels laughing…" Martha shuttered.
"It is quiet disturbing," Wilf agreed as they all looked at the screen uneasily.
"I've seen and heard some truly terrifying things in my life. This might top them all," Jack mused.
"You're telling me," Jane muttered.
The Doctor is confused. "Because you haven't noticed yet sir. The Doctor in the TARDIS hasn't noticed," Angel Bob says.
"Wait, isn't that what Prisoner Zero said to?" Martha asked as she remembered the second recording.
"Yes, that's right!" Wilf said as they all remembered.
"So, two alien threats taunt The Doctor about the exact same thing, centuries apart?" Jack asked suspiciously. "An awful big coincidence."
"You know what they say about coincidences Jack: there's no such thing," Jane noted.
"And let me guess, we need to see it for ourselves?" Donna asked sarcastically and Jane nodded. "You're liking this too much."
"I know," Jane said with a smile.
Octavian starts to speak but The Doctor silences him, sensing something. Hearing a noise behind him, everyone whirls around to see a crack like the one in Amy's bedroom on the wall, except this one is much wider.
"Bloody Hell, it's the crack!" Mickey exclaimed as the past viewers all stared at the screen in shock.
"It keeps following them," Martha breathed.
"It's a lot larger this time. Seems like it's ready to burst open," Donna noted uneasily.
"I'm more interested in what could come out if its anything like the Rift in Cardiff," Jack noted uneasily.
"Be more worried about what goes in than out," Jane said darkly, confusing them all.
The room shakes as it appears, the Doctor pushing a nearby desk in front of him. Amy recognizes the crack as The Doctor remembers his first encounter with it. Octavian orders his men to move out and River agrees, calling out to The Doctor. The Doctor pulls out his screwdriver, stepping onto the desk.
"Please tell me he's not going to do what I think he is," Donna pleaded as they all realized The Doctor's plan.
"Like you said, he does things so crazy they just might work," Jane said and the past viewers all groaned.
"Sometimes I wonder if he really is insane," Jack sighed heavily.
"The line between genius and madness is relative," Jane told them.
"Of course you'd say that. You're his daughter," Martha scoffed and Jane merely smiled.
River says they aren't leaving without him but he disagrees, calling out to Octavian. Octavian calls for River and Amy and River reluctantly heads towards him, dragging Amy along. The Doctor wonders what the crack is as he examines it with his screwdriver. Pulling the screwdriver back, he is alarmed by what he sees, calling it 'very extremely not good'.
"We figured that much out for ourselves Boss. Thanks," Mickey said sarcastically.
"Whatever he saw seems to have The Doctor spooked," Jack noticed.
"So it must be end of the world bad then," Martha said uneasily.
Jane remained silent. Martha was on the right track, but telling them how bad it was now would only bewilder and upset them. Besides, Dad would tell them himself later in this recording.
Turning around, The Doctor sees that the four Angel from before have surrounded him. The Doctor jumps down, looking one way and then the other, the Angels moving closer to him. As he tries to flee, an Angel grabs The Doctor's jacket.
"Oh for the love of!" Donna groaned. "Get out of there Spaceman!"
"You know he will," Jane said, trying to put their concerns at ease.
River and Amy walk with Octavian and his men through the forest. Suddenly, Amy stops and River looks back at her, seeing something is wrong.
"Oh no," Martha said as they all paled.
"I think we're about to find out why the Angel keeps counting down," Jack said grimly, wondering if this was the end for Amy.
The Doctor realizes he's not dead yet, confusing him. The Doctor looks towards the Angels, seeing their attention is on the cracks. The Doctor realizes that was the power Angel Bob was talking about. "That's pure time energy. You can't feed on that, that's not power, that's the fire at the end of the universe. And I'll tell you something else," The Doctor said before the room suddenly rocked. The Doctor freed himself, taking off his jacket and running into the forest. "Never let me talk!"
"Well at least he got away," Wilf said optimistically.
"I'm more concerned about what he was saying. 'Fire at the end of the universe'," Jack noted as he pondered its meaning.
"Sounds like the end of the universe," Donna mused.
"Well that was fast. Thought it would take you a bit longer to figure it out," Jane said in surprise.
"Wait, you mean the universe actually is ending?" Mickey asked in disbelief as they all looked at Jane in disbelief.
"It was. Now it's not. It's complicated and so much easier if you just see it for yourselves," Jane explained and they all gave her deadpanned looks.
"Is anyone else getting a killer migraine?" Martha said as she put a hand to her head.
"Right there with you," Jack said, considering killing himself to get out of this.
River asks Amy what's wrong and she says four. Amy then sits down, lying on her side as she begins to cradle her head. Octavian hands River a med-scanner and she begins to use it on Amy. Octavian says they need to keep moving and River firmly says they wait for The Doctor. Octavian argues that their mission is to neutralize the Angels, but River argues until he is in the room, their only mission is to keep The Doctor alive long enough so he can save everyone. "Now if he's dead back there, I'll never forgive myself. And if he's alive, I'll never forgive him," River declares.
"Well, if there was any doubt she was The Doctor's wife, I think that settles it. Only a wife can be simultaneously angry and worried about someone that way," Martha said certainly.
"Tell me about it," Donna agreed, not sure how she hadn't seen it in the Library.
River realizes he's standing right behind her as she sees Octavian looking behind her. "I hate you," River says as she turns around. "No you don't," The Doctor says.
"Definitely married," Mickey chuckled, remembering many similar arguments with Martha.
"Definitely," Jack agreed with a sad smile, remembering his wife.
The Doctor tells Octavian the Angels are in the forest before he runs to Amy. As Octavian gives orders to his men, River asks how he got away from the Angels. "I saw a crack in the wall and told them it was the end of the universe," The Doctor said. Amy asks what it was and The Doctor says the end of the universe.
"It's true then," Wilf said in a bit of disbelief.
"Yeah. Don't worry Wilf, Dad handled it," Jane assured him quickly.
"Doesn't mean it's not a little disturbing," Martha muttered.
The Doctor looks at the scanner as Amy asks what's wrong with her. River says she'll be fine when The Doctor sees the scans, declaring Amy's dying.
"The Angel's killing her then," Donna said horrified.
"It would," Martha said darkly.
"So now on top of everything else, he has to save Amy. It's turning into one of those days for him then," Jack noted dryly.
"Yeah," Jane said with a sigh.
River scolds him and The Doctor sarcastically states she'll get better if they lie to her. The Doctor says there's something in Amy's eye and Amy says she's scared. River gently tells her to be quiet so he can think. The Doctor begins to pace, remembering Amy looking into the eye of an Angel. One of the soldiers calls out than an Angel is there as it is seen before a tree.
"Can they not give them a moment of peace?" Donna snapped angrily.
"They're Weeping Angels. What do you think?" Martha asked darkly.
Octavian orders his men not to look away as The Doctor paces back and forth, trying to think. The Doctor rambles about Amy looking into the eye of the Angel and Amy notes an image of an Angel becomes an Angel. The Doctor realizes there's an Angel in Amy's mind before putting a hand over his mouth. "Three," Amy counted.
"So it's not just in her head, it's in her mind," Donna realized in horror.
"Normal laws of physics don't apply to them, and I am getting really tired of having to say that," Jane said annoyed.
"So how do we get an Angel out of someone's mind?" Mickey wondered but no one had an answer.
The Doctor stands as Amy says she can feel the Angel coming, thinking she's going to die. The Doctor tells her to shut up, pulling out his radio and asking Bob why the Angels are making Amy count. To make her afraid Angel Bob says and he asks why. "For fun, sir," Angel Bob said.
"This would be how you get your kicks," Martha said in disgusted as they all glared at the screen.
"These Angels are nothing short of pure evil," Wilf declared.
"You're just figuring that out?" Jane asked darkly.
The Doctor angrily throws the radio against a tree. Amy fearfully asks what's happening to her. The Doctor explains there's an Angel in her mind, like a screen. When she reaches zero, it will come out to kill her.
"And he just puts it right out there, doesn't even sugarcoat it," Martha said sarcastically.
"Has he ever?" Jack pointed out and Martha nodded, conceding his point.
Amy asks what she should do. The Doctor notes if it was a real screen, they would pull the plug to shut it off. But doing so would just bring the Angel out. The Doctor realizes they need to starve the Angel as River says they have seconds. The Doctor asks River how she'd starve her lungs and River says she'd stop breathing. The Doctor orders Amy to close her eyes. Amy says she doesn't want to and The Doctor tells her that it's the Angel talking, telling her to close her eyes. Amy closes her eyes and her vital signs begin return to normalize.
"Oh thank God," Donna said in relief as they all breathed a sigh of relief.
"Still, I don't think Amy's out of the woods just yet. That Angel still needs to starve. It could take a while," Jack noted uneasily.
"And with those Angels out there, not to mention those cracks, they might not have the time to wait," Martha said sharing Jack's unease.
As The Doctor and River sigh in relief, the soldiers see two more Angels appear through the trees. Another one sees three more on the other side.
"And now they're surrounded. Bloody fantastic," Donna said sarcastically as the relief faded.
"They need to get out of there, they're too exposed in the open like that," Mickey noted.
River notes Amy's pulse is too weak for Amy to move. Amy asks if she can open her eyes and The Doctor says if she does, she will die. They haven't stopped the Angel, they've merely paused it and Amy has used up her countdown. Octavian tells The Doctor they can't stay there due to how exposed it is.
"For once Octavian made a sensible decision," Jack noted as Mickey blinked in surprise.
"One of the few sensible things he does," Jane noted.
The Doctor argues they're too exposed everywhere and Amy can't move and that's not part of the plan. The Doctor then orders Octavian and his men to stay with Amy and that he will hold all of them personally responsible if anything should happen to Amy. The Doctor tells River she's coming with him to the Primary Flight Deck, turning around before locating the right direction with his finger, determining it's a quarter mile away.
"How was he able to figure that out?" Wilf asked in surprise.
"We stopped asking things like that a long time ago Gramps," Donna told him with a slight smile.
"After a certain point, you just learn to go with the flow," Martha shrugged.
The Doctor says they'll stop the wreckage and cure Amy. River asks how. "I don't know, I'll do a thing," The Doctor said. River asks what thing and he says its 'a thing in progress'. As The Doctor moves to leave, Octavian tells him he's going with them while his men look after Amy. The Doctor says he doesn't need him, but Octavian insists he doesn't care, as he goes where River goes. Bewildered, The Doctor asks if they're engaged or something. "Yes, in a manner of speaking," Octavian says and the Doctor shoots River a look. She shrugs.
"Aw, are you jealous Spaceman?" Donna teased.
"Confused is more like it. He knows she's destined to be his wife, and there's no lost love between River and Octavian clearly, so he's trying to put the pieces together," Jack noted.
"Boss hates not knowing things," Mickey chuckled.
Octavian and River begin to head out as The Doctor lingers for a moment. Amy asks if she can come with them but Octavian says she'd only slow them down. Amy protests and The Doctor sits down next to her, pointing out they can't protect her on the move and promising to come back as soon as he can. "You always say that," Amy grumbles.
"Her abandonment issues up again then," Wilf noted.
"Yeah. Amy does manage to work through them for the most part, but they can act up from time to time," Jane said, thinking of Amy and Rory's near divorce.
The Doctor points out he always comes back before standing, telling Octavian's men to keep watching the Angels and not to let Amy open her eyes. The Doctor then pats Amy on the head, promising to see her later before following after River and Octavian. Amy is left sitting alone, fiddling with her fingers when someone grabs her hands. It is The Doctor, wearing different clothes. "Amy, you need to start trusting me, it's never been more important," The Doctor told her. Amy says he doesn't always tell her the truth and he points out he wouldn't need her to trust him if he did. Amy asks how the crack in her wall can be there and he admits he doesn't know, promising he's working it out. The Doctor tells her to remember what he told her when she was seven. Amy doesn't remember and The Doctor tells her that's not the point. He says she has to remember before kissing her on the forehead and standing. Amy calls out for The Doctor but he has vanished.
"That was…" Donna trailed off, not knowing how to describe it.
"Weird," Martha supplied and Donna nodded, the past viewers very confused.
"Yeah, that confused me to my first time watching it. But it'll make sense later on," Jane promised.
The Doctor, River and Octavian are walking through the forest, The Doctor reading the energy from the crack. River wonders how a crack could be the end of the universe. The Doctor theorizes that one day, there will be an explosion so powerful it will destroy everything in the past, present and future.
"A universal explosion," Jack said as the past viewers look horrified.
"What could be so powerful that it could do that?" Donna wondered.
"Spoilers," Jane said lightly, wondering how they'd react to finding out the truth.
River asks how a crack could do that and The Doctor asks how she can be engaged in a matter of speaking.
"You sure he's confused? Because he seems more jealous to me," Martha noted.
"Might be a bit of both," Jack allowed.
River says he's a sucker for a man in uniform. Octavian explains River is in his custody and that he had released her from Stormcage Facility four days earlier. River is here until she has earned her pardon. With a smirk, Octavian then starts walking off.
"Oi! You Bloody git," Donna said angrily as they all felt whatever sympathy they had for Octavian vanish.
"Now is not the time to let your personal feelings for River get in the way," Jack scolded Octavian.
"Don't be too hard on him. Like I said, he has good reason to think the worst of River," Jane told them. "Not that you're wrong, he shouldn't have let it interfere with the mission."
The Doctor asks River about Stormcage before River's scanner starts going off. The Doctor explains he's discovered the date when the explosion begins. As the translation kicks in, the shocked Doctor says the date is Amy's time, June 26, 2010.
"Amy's time?" Martha said in surprise as they were all taken aback.
'Of Bloody Course! We are thick!" Donna exclaimed as she put it together. "The Crack isn't following The Doctor."
"It's following Amy. Amy is the common factor in all of this," Jack realized.
"But why? What is so special about Amy?" Wilf wondered.
"You're right and you're wrong. It's not following Amy, but it does have to do with her," Jane said and got five blank looks in return. "Just trust me, it'll make sense later."
Amy asks the Clerics what's happening and one of them tells her the Angels are still grouping. Suddenly, the lights start flickering. The Clerics realize the Angels are ripping the tree borgs apart. Another one points to an Angel taking out the lights.
"And with no lights, they can move around freely in the dark," Jack noted uneasily.
"Bloody brilliant," Donna groaned.
"It always gets worse before it gets better," Martha said dryly and none of them could disagree.
A cleric explains to Amy what's going on before the lights go out. When it comes back on, an Angel has moved closer to them.
"They need to get out of there," Mickey said uneasily.
"Amy can't move though," Martha noted and Mickey swore.
By the Primary Flight Deck, Octavian is trying to open the door. River tells him to hurry as time is running out. The Doctor repeats it, asking her if that's what she said. He hushes her, beginning to think. But what if it could, he thinks. What if time could run out? Octavian gets the door open and they start to head inside.
"Looks like Boss is onto something," Mickey noted.
"Well whatever it is, hopefully it'll get them out of this," Jack said grimly.
The lights keep flickering and the Angels keep moving closer to Amy and the Clerics. One of the Clerics begins ordering his men into position as Amy asks what's happening. But he just tells her to keep her eyes shut. Suddenly, they see a bright light a few feet away. The Clerics wonder if the ship has exploded as the lights flicker. When they come back on, the Angels are gone.
"Did the Angels just…disappear?" Martha asked in disbelief.
"No. They're running. Though from what, I don't know," Jack mused.
"It's that light. Whatever it is, it scares them," Donna realized.
"Whatever scares a Weeping Angel is not something I want to meet," Mickey muttered.
The Clerics check the scanners, seeing the Angels have vanished. They're still out there, but it's like they're running now. Running from what Amy wonders. One of the Clerics suggests two of his men take a closer look at the light. They begin heading towards it. Amy asks what they're looking at as the Clerics are seen running into the light.
"Yes, because running towards whatever has the Angels scared is a brilliant idea," Martha said sarcastically. "They should be running far away from it!"
"They're either brave or stupid. Maybe both," Jack mused.
The Doctor explains the cracks are cracks in time, which is why Amy didn't recognize the Daleks and why there were no ducks in the duck pond in Leadworth. Time can be rewritten The Doctor realizes in shock.
"So wait, it can rewrite time?" Martha asked in bewilderment.
"No. It can destroy time," Donna said as she realized the truth. "Wipe things out from existence. And you'd never know any differently."
"So this explosion, these cracks…they're wiping things from existence," Jack realized in horror.
"Bloody Hell," Mickey summed up what they were all thinking.
One of the Clerics describes the light to Amy and she asks if it scared the Angels. The other Cleric wonders what could scare the Angels. Amy tells one of the Clerics to point her in the direction of the light. He says she can't open her eyes but she points out she only needs to open them for a second. She insists she needs to see it.
"With an Angel in your mind! Are you mad?!" Donna snapped in disbelief.
"Sometimes, I think we might all be a bit mad," Martha mused. "It's not like we've done things that are any less mad."
"Occupational hazard of running with The Doctor," Jack shrugged.
Reluctantly, the Cleric leads her in the direction of the light, telling her to be quick. Amy opens her eyes and is shocked to see the light is just like the crack in her wall. The Cleric tells Amy to close her eyes but Amy is too shocked by the fact that the crack is following her. She falls to her knees as the Cleric rushes over, closing her eyes.
"Well that confirms that the crack is what the Angels are scared of. And I think you're right Mickey. What scares them is not something I want to see," Jack said uneasily.
"Either way, I think we're going to meet it," Martha said uncomfortably.
"Brilliant," Mickey said sarcastically.
The Cleric asks if she's okay and Amy repeats that it's the same shape. The other Cleric asks the one helping Amy to go take a look at the light. He agrees and he begins to head towards it. Amy protests, pointing out he already sent two more ahead. But to her shock, the Cleric doesn't remember them. He doesn't even remember their names.
"They've been wiped from existence," Martha said horrified. "They don't even remember them."
"It makes sense. They were never born. The crack, it doesn't kill you, it wipes out every memory of you. It's like you were never there, and no one would ever know any differently," Jack mused.
"It's even worse than death," Wilf declared and no one could disagree.
Octavian makes River go in first then calls out to The Doctor. The Doctor is thinking, figuring something out. "Time can be unwritten," The Doctor declares suddenly.
"Yes, and I'm sure that's a lot for you to process. Now get in there Spaceman!" Donna snapped.
Amy and the Cleric are arguing, Amy telling him about Crispin and Phillips, the first two Clerics he sent, and Pedro, the one he just sent. But now he doesn't remember Pedro either. At the Primary Flight Deck, The Doctor rambles, realizing no one remembers the Cyberking walking all over London. Octavian tries to get him inside and away from the Angels. The Doctor says there are worse things out there than Angels when the lights flicker and, when they come back on, an Angel has their arms wrapped around Octavian's neck.
"Oh great. Now The Doctor has to save him," Martha said sarcastically as they all groaned.
"Oh Spaceman. A fine mess you've gotten yourself into," Donna grumbled.
"When have things ever gone to plan with The Doctor?" Jack pointed out.
"Never, and the day after never," Mickey said with a sigh.
The Doctor uses his screwdriver on the Angel, telling it to let Octavian go. Octavian points out it can't while he's looking at it and The Doctor argues it'll kill him if he doesn't. Octavian says he's dead either way, asking The Doctor to leave him. The Doctor asks if he can wiggle out but it's too tight.
"Of course it is. You think a Weeping Angel is just going to let go easily?" Martha said flippantly.
"I'm not sure The Doctor will be able to save him," Wilf noted uneasily.
"Maybe not. But he wouldn't be The Doctor if he didn't try," Jack said with certainty. "It's something I both admire about him and wish he'd do things differently at times."
"He wouldn't be Dad if he did," Jane pointed out and Jack shrugged.
Amy is arguing with the last Cleric, trying to convince him about Pedro and the others but he doesn't remember them. He tells her he needs to get a closer look at the light, ignoring Amy's protests. He gives her a spare communicator, promising to stay in touch. Amy argues with him, trying to make him believe that he'll join the others if he goes but he insists, promising he'll only be two minutes. "Please, just listen to me!" Amy shouts but he ignores her.
"And of course he's ignoring her," Martha sighed in frustration.
"What else can you expect from a 51st century Cleric?" Jack asked darkly.
The Doctor tries to save Octavian from the Angel but Octavian says there's nothing he can do. Thinking he's a dead man, Octavian tells The Doctor he can't trust River. "You think you know her, but you don't. You don't know who or what she is," Octavian told him. The Doctor tells Octavian to tell him but Octavian insists he's already said more than he should. Octavian tells him to go back to Amy but The Doctor orders him to tell him why River was in Stormcage. She killed a man Octavian revealed. "A good man, a hero to many," Octavian said. But Octavian refuses to tell The Doctor who she killed, insisting that the Angels are coming.
"Did River really…" Donna trailed off uncertainly as the past viewers looked surprised and unsure at this new piece of information.
"Yes and no. It's complicated," Jane said vaguely.
"And you don't feel like complicating it for us," it was phrased as a question, but Jack said it like a statement.
"Look, nothing is ever simple with River. What Octavian is saying is technically true, but there is so much more to the story that he doesn't know. I'm not asking you to trust River. But trust me when I say that she's on The Doctor's side," Jane said and the room was silent for a moment.
"Something tells me we're going to find out what happened eventually anyway. So I guess that will have to be enough for now," Martha sighed. "But this keeping secrets thing is getting old Jane."
"I know. Just…try to be patient," Jane pleaded.
"The only reason I'm agreeing to this is for The Doctor. Should that change, I will be decidedly less patient," Jack said darkly.
"I'd expect nothing less Jack," Jane said with a slight smile.
The Doctor points out Octavian will die if he lives. "I will die in the knowledge that my courage did not desert me in the end. For that, I thank God and bless the path that takes you to safety," Octavian declared.
"He's not that bad after all," Mickey noted.
"In his own way, he's a good man. Not a very good leader, but a good man who did the best he could with the knowledge he had," Jane explained.
"Those are always the ones losing their lives," Jack sighed as they all stared at the screen sadly.
The Doctor says he wished he'd known Octavian better but Octavian says he has known him at his best. The Doctor asks if he's ready. He is. Reluctantly, The Doctor rushes inside the door and closes the hatch as he hears Octavian's neck snap.
"Poor Octavian," Martha said her heart going out to him.
"Can you not doing anything to help him?" Wilf asked Jane.
"By the time I met up with Dad again, he was already dead. Two versions of the TARDIS at the same place, it could destroy the fabric of reality," Jane said with a sigh. "Time is not as flexible as Dad makes it seem Wilf. I'm already risking a lot just by bringing you here."
Inside, River is trying to get the teleport to work but The Doctor says it's useless. She asks where Octavian is and he coldly tells her Octavian is dead, to her shock. Amy contacts the last Cleric over the radio. He tells her he's close to the light now and Amy pleads with him to come back. However, the radio cuts out soon after. Amy frantically calls out several times, receiving no response. Then, The Doctor's voice blares over the radio.
"Great, now Amy's alone. You stupid Clerics," Donna grumbled.
"At least The Doctor has a way to contact her. Hopefully he can figure out a way to help her out of there," Wilf said trying to be optimistic.
"Hopefully," Martha muttered, not sharing his optimism.
She quickly tells him what happened to the Clerics. River asks what the light is and The Doctor says time running out. The Doctor tells Amy she needs to come to the Primary Flight Deck.
"So his plan is to make her walk all the way through the forest, surrounded by Angels…that is a terrible plan," Martha said in disbelief.
"Unfortunately, it's the only one The Doctor has at the moment. He can't go all the way back there for Amy, not with all those Angels boxing him in," Jack pointed out. "And as long as she keeps her eyes closed, they may not take any notice of her."
"I'd feel a lot better if Amy still had one of those Clerics with her," Donna said uneasily.
"Me to. But she doesn't," Jack said with a sigh.
Amy argues she can't see and he tells her to turn on the spot. Bewildered, Amy follows his instructions and he tells her when she hears his screwdriver, she's facing the right direction and to follow the sound. As Amy locates the sound, The Doctor tells her she needs to start moving, as time energy is spilling out of the crack and she needs to stay ahead of it. Amy protests that the Angels are out there but The Doctor says they can only kill her.
"Which will be a comfort to Amy, I'm sure," Mickey said dryly.
Amy asks what the time energy can do and he snaps that she needs to keep moving. The Doctor explains the time energy will wipe out her very existence; she will never have been born at all. River says it will never work and he angrily snaps at her, asking what else she's got and she nearly jumps.
"He's losing it," Donna noted uneasily. "He's worried about Amy and processing what Octavian told him about River. It's making him irrational."
"Well The Doctor needs to get a handle on himself if he wants to save Amy's life," Wilf said firmly.
"Tell him that Wilf," Martha said dryly.
Amy slows begins her journey through the forest as, in the Primary Flight Deck, The Doctor and River hear bangs coming from outside. River asks what that is and The Doctor says it the Angels. They came here to feed on the time energy, now it's gonna feed on them, he explains. The Doctor sends some software to Amy's communicator, explaining that it's a proximity detector which will beep if something if in her way. Because the forest is full of Angels, Amy will need to walk like she can see. Amy asks what that means and he tells her to keep moving.
"That is not very helpful," Martha noted.
"It's the most helpful thing The Doctor is going to be able to give her right now," Jack noted.
River asks what the Time Energy will do and The Doctor says it will keep eating. She asks how they stop it and he says by feeding it a big, complicated space/time event. River asks what kind. "LIKE ME, FOR INSTANCE!" The Doctor shouted.
"Calm down Doctor," Martha pleaded.
"Could feeding The Doctor to the crack really close it?" Jack asked suspiciously.
"In theory. Not that anyone really wants to test that theory," Jane shrugged.
Suddenly, they all hear a beeping. Amy asks what that is and The Doctor explains it's a warning, as there Angels around her and a shot of Amy surrounded by Angels is seen.
"She must be getting close to the Primary Flight Deck," Donna muttered as they all tensed.
"Come on Amy, just a little further," Martha muttered.
The Doctor tells Amy the Angels are scared and not interested in Amy. They'll assume she can see them and their instincts will kick in as the recording shows the Angels are in stone form. She needs to walk like she can see without opening her eyes. When Amy doesn't move for a moment, The Doctor tells her she need to get moving, now. After a moment and The Doctor shouting at her, Amy slowly begins moving forward, using the proximity Detector to avoid bumping into the Angels. But as she moves over a root, her foot catches on it and she trips.
"Damn it all to Hell!" Jack swore as the tension rose even more.
"Shit shit shit," Mickey muttered.
She drops the communicator as she does and blindly searches around for it. As she calls out for The Doctor, the Angels all begin turning towards her.
"Get her out of there Spaceman!" Donna all but shouts.
"How?" Martha asked as they began to wonder if Amy would be another person The Doctor lost.
Amy stands up, turning towards one of the Angel when there is a flash of light and suddenly she is in River's arms on the Flight Deck. River assures her she is safe and not to open her eyes, River teleported her onto the Flight Deck.
"Thank the heavens," Wilf said as they all breathed a sigh of relief. "I really do need a break or I may have a heart attack."
"You're not the only one," Mickey said wearily, putting a hand to his chest.
"This one's almost over, then we should turn in for the night," Jane assured him.
River smugly says she told the Doctor she could get it working. The Doctor says he could kiss her and River coyly says maybe when he's older.
"I really do like her. I can see them together," Martha noted wistfully.
"Me to. I think she's good for him. I think The Doctor needs someone who can keep him in line when he gets too irrational," Donna mused.
"And I'm sure you'd know all about that Donna," Jack flirted and Donna flushed while Wilf looked ready to speak up.
"Stop it," Martha said, reaching over to lightly whack Jack on the head.
"I'm just being friendly," Jack said with an innocent smile.
"Your version of friendly is dangerous," Martha said bluntly.
Suddenly, alarms begin to blare. River asks what's happening and The Doctor realizes the Angels are draining the last of the ship's power. Realizing the shield on the Oxygen Factory will rise, The Doctor rushes in front of Amy and River as it opens, revealing the Angels standing on the other side.
"They don't have anywhere to run now," Wilf said horrified as they all tensed.
"Wonder how Boss will get out of this one," Mickey mused.
The Doctor greets Angel Bob, who says the time field is coming and will destroy their reality. The Doctor asks what they want and Angel Bob says if the Doctor throws himself into the rift; it will close and save them.
"They honestly expect him to just sacrifice himself for them?" Jack said in disbelief.
"They've recognized his self-sacrificing nature. Trouble is, they don't know Dad well enough to know how to play it," Jane noted.
"They're Weeping Angels, so it's not like they understand the concept of love," Martha said darkly.
"That to," Jane shrugged.
The Doctor asks why he should do that and Angel Bob says it will save his friends. River rushes to the Doctor, offering herself in his place. The Doctor laughs, saying an Angel is more complicated than her and it would take all of them to equal him.
"That's odd," Jack narrowed his eyes. "River should realize she wouldn't be able to satisfy the crack…unless there's something she's not telling The Doctor."
"Spoilers," Jane said with a grin.
"Seriously?" Donna gave her an exasperated look and Jane laughed.
"All I'll say is her being Dad's wife is only half the story when it comes to River. The rest is a lot more complicated. You'll get there thought," Jane promised.
The Doctor tells River to get a grip and she says she won't let him do this. He repeats for her to get a grip. River continues to argue. "No, I mean it, River, Amy, get a grip," The Doctor orders. Realizing his plan, River calls him a genius and rushes over to Amy. Angel Bob tells The Doctor to sacrifice himself. "The thing is Bob; the Angels are draining all the power from this ship, every last bit of it. And you know what? I think they've forgotten where they're standing. I think they've forgotten the gravity of the situation," The Doctor says gleefully.
"The artificial gravity, of course! When the Angels consume all the power, the gravity will fail and the ship will fall," Martha realized.
"And what do you think they'll fall into?" Jane asked with a smirk.
River puts Amy's hands on the console, ordering her not to let go as The Doctor mockingly tells the Angels Night-Night. The ship begins to fall and The Doctor and River grab onto the console and watch as the Angels all fall back, being sucked into the rift. There is a flash of light before it closes.
"Oh Spaceman, you are good. Very good," Donna laughed as they realized The Doctor's plan.
"Making the Angels corner them at the Primary Flight Deck, waiting until they consumed the ship's power. All so they'd fall into the crack and close it. It's a plan only he could be smart enough to come up with," Jack said with a grin.
"So that's it for the Crack?" Martha asked and the grin left Jane's face.
"For now. But it'll be back later," Jane said and it was quiet for a moment. "Like I said, Dad dealt with it. Trust me, it'll be fine."
"If you say so," Mickey muttered as they turned back to the screen.
Later, The Doctor and Amy are on the shore, Amy sitting with a blanket wrapped around her. Amy complains about being covered in bruises and The Doctor says so is he. She argues he didn't have to climb out with his eyes closed. Neither did she, The Doctor says. As the Angels were all caught up in the rift, they never existed and so the Angel in her mind never existed. Amy wonders how she could remember it when the Clerics didn't remember each other and The Doctor explains she's a time traveler, it changes the way she sees the universe.
"It truly does," Jack muttered with the past viewers, save Wilf, all having wistful looks in their eyes.
"Running with The Doctor, it does change you," Martha agreed.
"Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worst. But you gonna take the good with the bad," Jane agreed, thinking of all the lives she'd seen her father impact through these recordings.
They laugh and Amy then asks about the crack, if it's really gone. For now, The Doctor says, but the explosion that caused it is still happening somewhere in time. The Doctor looks over his shoulder, walking over to River, who is in handcuffs with two men standing behind her. "You, me, handcuffs," River said as she held up her hands. "Must it always end this way?"
"Well that's a story I'd like to hear," Jack said as he looked interested.
"Please no," Donna pleaded as everyone else looked disgusted.
"Don't worry. The TARDIS stops things from getting to graphic," Jane said, to their relief and Jack's disappointment.
They laugh and The Doctor asks what happens now. River explains the Prison Ship will beam her up any second. Hopefully, she'll have done enough to earn a pardon this time she notes. The Doctor tells her Octavian said she killed a man. The smile leaves River's face and she admits she did. A good man The Doctor notes and River calls him 'the best man I've ever known'. The Doctor asks who. "It's a long story Doctor. Can't be told, has to be lived. No sneak previews. Well, except for this one," River told him. They laugh and River promises he'll see her again, when the Pandorica opens. The Doctor laughs, leaning close to her ear and saying that it's a fairytale. "Aren't we all?" River laughs.
Jack frowned. There was the mention of the Pandorica again. Was it really just a story? A sliver of doubt began to enter Jack's mind.
She promises to see him again and he says he looks forward to it. She remembers it well she notes. Amy then walks over, saying goodbye and River says she'll see her. A beep goes off and she says her ride is here. The Doctor asks if he can trust her and she says if he likes. "But where's the fun in that?" River asks cheekily.
"Well apparently he learns to do a lot more than trust her," Mickey noted.
"It was a long road. One with a lot of twists and turns. But they made it there, eventually," Jane said. "You'll see a lot of it."
"Well, I look forward to it," Jack said, very interested to find out more about River.
River then vanishes in a gust of wind along with the two men. The Doctor turns around, staring at the TARDIS and Amy walks up next to him. Amy asks him what he's thinking and The Doctor notes time can be rewritten. They then head into the TARDIS, and as The Doctor takes off, Amy tells him she wants to go home. The Doctor agrees, thinking she means for good but Amy tells him she wants to show him something. "You're running from River. I'm running to," she says.
"So this is where she tells him about her wedding," Wilf noted.
"Sort of," Jane said, fighting a grimace.
She was not looking forward to the next few minutes.
At Amy's house, The Doctor and Amy are in her room, sitting on her bed. The Doctor looks at Amy's wedding dress, processing this new information. Amy asks if this is the same night they left and he reveals they've been gone for five minutes. Amy pulls out a red velvet box, opening it to reveal her engagement ring.
"Wow, it's beautiful," Martha said, admiring the ring.
"Whoever got it must have put a lot of thought into it," Wilf noted.
Amy says she getting married in the morning and The Doctor takes the box, wondering why she left it here. Amy laughs that he really is an alien. He asks who she's marrying and she says The Doctor has met him and he asks if it's Jeff or 'the other one' making a gesture to his nose. Amy defensively says the other one, slapping his leg.
"So she and Rory worked out then," Mickey said, surprised by this.
"She and Rory give off a bad first impression. I know it doesn't seem like it, but she does love him," Jane paused. "Keep that in mind for what you're about to see."
The past viewers shot her odd looks but turned back to the screen, wondering what that meant.
The Doctor says Rory is good to and Amy thanks him. Amy asks if he comforts a lot of people the night before their wedding. The Doctor is confused and Amy points out she nearly died, alone in the dark. And it made her think about what and who she wants Amy says suggestively.
"Oi Amy!" Donna exclaimed in disgust as they all realized where this was going.
"Oh God, not another one!" Mickey groaned.
"She's about to get married!" Wilf exclaimed in a mix of disbelief, shock and horror.
"It's not one of Amy's best moments, I admit. For more than you know," Jane said, shuttering. "But it's not something she does normally. She's not Rose who turns her back on everyone else for Dad."1
"Still," Donna said, unsettled by this.
"It's not exactly uncommon," Jack mused and they all looked at sharply. "Okay, that came out wrong. Sometimes, when you go into battle, you nearly die; you just kind of want to do something crazy. You try to take your mind off the fact you nearly just died, and a lot of times that's usually sleeping with someone else. Granted most times the person doing it isn't getting married. It's not really something you can understand unless you've been through it."
"It's a trauma response more than anything else. Doesn't make this okay, but it's not something Amy ever does when she's in her right mind," Jane explains.
The others still looked put off by Amy's behavior, which Jane couldn't exactly blame them for. But they'd have to
Amy asks if he understands and he says yeah before admitting he doesn't. Amy repeats it made her think about who she wants but The Doctor still doesn't understand. So Amy decides to show him in a way even he can understand, grabbing him and trying to kiss him. The Doctor stops her, untangling himself from her as he argues that Amy is getting married in the morning. But Amy is undeterred, walking back until The Doctor is trapped with his back against the TARDIS. The Doctor argues he's 907 as he fights off Amy's advances, asking her if she knew what that meant. Amy coyly says it's been a while but The Doctor argues that this will never work between them as she will grow old and he won't. But Amy says she isn't interested in anything long term before kissing the shocked Doctor.
Jane cringed at this while the others looked torn between being uncomfortable and disgusted. But no one said a word, everything that needed to be said already had.
The Doctor pushes her off, arguing that she's getting married in the morning. "In the morning," The Doctor says as realization hits him.
"What? What is it?" Martha asked as Jack's eyes widened in realization.
"The morning. Amy's time," Jack muttered.
"The explosion, the one that will destroy the universe," Mickey said as they all put it together.
"Amy's wedding day. Why does it keep coming back to Amy?" Donna wondered.
"You'll see soon enough," Jane assured them.
Amy sees something has happened as The Doctor says that everything that has happened is all about her. Amy tells him to hold that thought before going to lie down on her bed. But The Doctor realizes that the most important thing in the universe is for him to get her sorted out right away. Amy thinks he's given in but yelps as he grabs her by the hands, forcing her to follow him into the TARDIS. He pushes her inside the TARDIS before looking over at the clock. The time is midnight, the date being June 26, 2010, the same date as the origin of the explosion that caused the crack. The Doctor then heads into the TARDIS as the screen goes black.
"Well. That was…" Martha trailed off, not sure how to put it.
"That was one of the most uncomfortable things I have ever had to see. And I saw a man turn into a giant wasp," Donna declared.
"I didn't wanna say it," Mickey muttered.
"Like I said, not one of Amy's better moments," Jane agreed. "It'd probably been a long day for all of you, so how about I get you lot something to eat and then show you all to your rooms."
"Sounds good to me," Jack said as he got up, stretching.
"I feel I'd like to turn in," Wilf said, suddenly realizing how tired he was.
"First you need to eat something Gramps," Donna said, going into 'protective granddaughter' mode as her mother called it.
"Oh Donna, you worry too much," Wilf complained.
But he didn't protest anymore as Jane led them all from the room, each of them processing what they had seen.
*Sighs* An amazing episode, ruined by a horrible ending.
Sorry 11/Amy shippers, but by this point I was beyond over the 'Companion falls for The Doctor' trope that was honestly pretty stupid to begin with tbh. But when you consider the River context, the ending of this episode is very uncomfortable to watch.
Seriously Moffat? You couldn't think of any other way to get Rory on the TARDIS?
Anyway, rant over. Before we get to Vampires in Venice, we'll have a break chapter.
1: Since I know at least one person is going to try and accuse me of such, I'm not defending Amy's actions. Her actions are not okay with me as a person and actually turned me off Amy as a character for a few episodes. But Amy has proven that this is not typical behavior for her and was more of a trauma response than her having any romantic inclinations towards The Doctor, despite what certain people are going to say. Doesn't make it okay, but it is something that can be forgiven.
