(AN) Hello and welcome to the penultimate chapter in this fan novelisation of Doctor Who: Genesis. I hope you all enjoy, and remember to Read and Review.
So, the last chapter revealed that the Master is attempting to rewrite the Doctor's history; will he succeed.
You'll notice that the story title has Under Revision in brackets next to it; I'm going back and fixing up errors. It'll be removed once everything is corrected.

Chapter Four
Battle for the Future
Flashback
A few years had now passed on Gallifrey. Theta was sitting in a comfortable armchair in the citadel; reading a book. Zita was just a few feet away showing something to two Time Lords and a Time Lady. After he was finished, Zita walked over to Theta who put his book down.
"Oh, Theta, if you had any of my ambition, you would have a brilliant device like this," declared Zita; holding up the device, which resembled a small gun, "I call it the Tissue Compression Eliminator, or TCE for short. It can compress anybody's tissues, causing them to shrink to the size of a doll."
"That's monstrous," cried Theta in shock, "Zita, why would you ever consider using such a device?"
"Of course you'd disapprove!" spat Zita, "Now that you're calling yourself Doctor, it should've been obvious that you'd dislike something that would kill. The Rani, the Monk and the Rogue were all impressed, and they use the name that I have chosen. Go on Doctor, say my name; the name that I chose to adopt; The Master."
"That's just so typical of you," retorted the Doctor as he stood up and glared at the Master, "You know we were all once the same, but instead of exploring the universe and seeing all the wonders it has to offer, you just want to conquer it all. Imagine what would've happened if we'd taken that capsule all those years ago."
End Flashback
In the alleyway, the Doctor was glaring at the Master.
"I eventually managed to fix my TARDIS and arrived here a few days before you did," informed the Master, grinning wickedly, "The real James Stewart was killed by me. I then used a device to scan his body print; allowing me to take on his appearance. I keep the real James close to me."
The Master reached into his pocket and laughed as he pulled out the shrunken doll-like body of the real James Stewart. The Doctor looked horrified.
"So, how do you plan on destroying my life?" asked the Doctor, "What have you done?"
The Master grinned menacingly. "Well, let's just say that your granddaughter and her two teachers might not make it to that junkyard of yours in one piece." he explained before chuckling menacingly.
"What do you-
The Doctor's eyes widened in realisation. "A bomb!" she cried in shock, "You'll kill loads of innocent people."
"I know; isn't it exciting," said the Master with evident glee, "Better hurry now; clock's ticking."
The Doctor raced out of the alleyway and down the street; the Master howling with laughter.
The Doctor burst through the doors to Coal Hill School and charged down the corridor, ignoring the strange looks from the pupils. Jeffery Parsons poked his head out of his office, looking dazed and confused. "What's going on?" he muttered sleepily.
As the Doctor began to search the school, the bell suddenly rang and she backed herself against a wall between two lockers while pupils swarmed out of their classrooms and headed home. Once the corridor was clear, the Time Lady came out from her hiding place and continued her search; peering through doors and windows.
Over in Ian's classroom, the science teacher was writing on a piece of paper when Barbara entered, holding a book on the French Revolution. Ian put the pen and paper down and turned to face Barbara when she closed the door. "Not gone yet?" he asked cheerfully.
"Obviously not." said Barbara in a grumpy tone as she walked over to the blackboard.
"Ask a silly question." replied Ian, taking on a more stoic tone.
"I'm sorry." apologised Barbara.
"It's alright, I'll forgive you this time." said Ian, giving his colleague a small smile.
"Oh, I've had a terrible day; I don't know what to make of it." sighed Barbara in annoyance.
"Oh, what's the trouble?" asked Ian in concern, "Can I help?"
"Oh, it's one of the girls: Susan Foreman." informed Barbara.
"Susan Foreman?" replied Ian as he stopped what he was doing, looked up at Barbara and chuckled, "She your problem too?"
"Yes." replied Barbara curtly.
"And you don't know what to make of her?" said Ian.
"No." answered Barbara.
The Doctor was still running around the school looking for the bomb: she ran in and out of various classrooms; ran up and down the stairwells, but there was no sign of it.
"Is it really so easy to hide a bomb?" panted the Doctor before taking a deep breath, "Okay, Doctor, think; if I were the Master, where would I hide a bomb within a school?"
The Doctor's eyes widened. "The basement; of course!" she cried in realisation.
The Doctor raced through some double doors.
Back in Ian's classroom, he and Barbara were still talking.
"Well, I told you how good she is at History," Barbara was saying, "Well, I had a talk with her and told her she ought to specialise. Well, she seemed quite interested until I said that I'd be willing to work with her at her home. Then she said that that would be absolutely impossible as her grandfather didn't like strangers."
"He's a doctor isn't he?" asked a surprised Ian, "That's a bit of a lame excuse."
The Doctor entered the school basement, raced down the stairs and briefly glanced at a large sheet covering what she knew was Dalek technology. The Doctor turned and saw the bomb lying on the floor in the centre of the room. It was a large grey box-shaped device with a digital clock display that read '1:26' in bold red text
The Doctor ran over to the bomb and knelt beside it, she then took out her comms.
"Caitrin, I need your help," said the Doctor, "The Master is here trying to rewrite my timeline; he's planted a bomb in the school basement. I need your help to defuse it."
"Of course, Doctor," replied Caitrin, "I'm patching you through to Dr. Ball now. He's the head of the bomb department, so, he'll know what to do."
After a few moments, the voice of Dr. Edwin Ball came through. "Right, Doctor, you'll have to do this quickly and carefully, otherwise, you, your granddaughter, her teachers and other innocent bystanders will end up as ash." he explained.
"I'm aware of that!" fumed the Doctor impatiently.
"Alright, alright, keep your hair on," joked Ball, "First, you're going to have to prey the panel open. Look for four bolts in each corner."
The Doctor looked down and saw a panel with four bolts sealing it shut. "Found it!" she said.
"Excellent, now slowly remove the bolts." informed Ball.
"It's times like this that make me wish I had my sonic screwdriver." muttered the Doctor as she began to work on the first bolt.
Back in Ian's classroom, Barbara was telling him about another thing that confused her about Susan, while he was washing up.
"I got her address from the secretary; 76 Totter's Lane, and I went along there one evening," began Barbara before noticing that Ian wasn't paying much attention, "Oh, Ian, do pay attention."
"Sorry, you went along there one evening." said Ian, now paying attention.
"Well, there isn't anything there; it's just an old junkyard." informed Barbara.
"Well, you must've went to the wrong place." suggested Ian.
"Well, that was the address the secretary gave me." explained Barbara.
"Well, the secretary got it wrong then." said a bemused Ian.
"No, I checked," replied Barbara, "There's a big wall on one side, houses on the other and nothing in the middle. And this nothing in the middle is No. 76 Totter's Lane."
Down in the basement, the Doctor ripped the panel off, revealing a bunch of wiring. "Okay, now what?" she asked.
"Now you just need to cut the correct wire," informed Edwin, "it'll most likely be the blue one."
"I've not got anything to cut it with." sighed the Doctor in frustration.
There was a sudden flash of blue light and a pair of wire cutters appeared next to the Doctor.
"Who said the time machine could only transport people." remarked Omega with pride.
"Thanks, Omega." replied the Doctor, picking up the wire cutters and slowly moving them towards the blue wire. The jaw-like part of the cutters opened and cut the wire in two. The clock however continued to count down.
"Why didn't that work?" cried the Doctor in shock.
"Hmmm, looks like you'll have to cut all of those wires in order to defuse the bomb." stated Edwin.
"Typical of him!" hissed the Doctor in frustration.
Over in Barbara's classroom, Susan was listening to her music while pretending to play a guitar. She didn't hear or see Ian and Barbara enter the room.
"Susan." said Barbara.
Susan turned and spotted Ian and Barbara walking over to her. "Oh, I'm sorry, Miss Wright, I didn't here you come in." sh3 said in surprise, "Aren't they fabulous?"
"Who?" asked Barbara.
"It's John Smith and the Common Men; a song from 1962." informed Susan in her matter-of fact tone.
Ian let out a light chuckle. "John Smith is the stage name of the honorary Aubrey Waits," he informed, "He started his career as Chris Waits and the Catalope, didn't he, Susan?"
"You are surprising, Mr Chesterton," replied Susan, "I wouldn't expect you to know things like that."
"I've an inquiring mind," said Ian, "And a very sensitive ear."
"Sorry." apologised Susan sheepishly before turning her music off.
"Thank you." chuckled Ian.
"Is that the book you promised me?" asked Susan, noting the book in Barbara's hands.
"Yes." replied Barbara before handing the book to Susan.
"Thank you very much," said Susan, "It will be interesting. I'll return it tomorrow."
"Oh, that's not necessary; keep it until you've finished it." replied the History teacher.
"I'll have finished it." said Susan bluntly.
"Where do you live, Susan?" asked Ian, "I'm giving Miss Wright a lift home, I've room for one more."
"No thank you, Mr Chesterton, I like walking through the dark," answered Susan, "It's mysterious."
"Be careful, Susan, there'll probably be fog again tonight," warned Barbara, "See you in the morning."
"I expect so." replied Susan.
Back in the basement, the Doctor cut the last wire, resulting in a few small sparks flying out of the machine. The digital clock froze at ten seconds before vanishing. The Doctor heaved a sigh of relief.
"Doctor, did it work?" asked Edwin.
"Yes, the bomb's been deactivated," answered the Doctor as she got to her feet, "Now to get out of here, wake up my first self and make sure The Master doesn't rewrite my timeline."
"Good luck, Doctor." said Caitrin.
The Doctor pocketed the wire cutters and exited the basement. She then bumped into Jeffery; still looking confused.
"I'm sorry … do I know you?" muttered Jeffery.
"Safety inspector," lied the Doctor, "Sorry, must dash."
Jeffery simply watched as the Doctor ran off.
The Doctor walked into the school's car park and spotted Ian's car driving away.
The Doctor soon arrived at the warehouse, only to find the doors open. She ran inside and spotted The Master standing over the First Doctor with a knife. Thinking quickly, the Doctor picked up a discarded box and threw it at the Master, knocking him to the ground, the Master staggered to his feet and looked at the Doctor in shock. "How did you escape?" he cried in shock.
"I defused the bomb." answered the Doctor.
The Master growled furiously before picking up the knife, charging at the Doctor and swiping at her; the Doctor dodging each time, the Doctor quickly grabbed the Master's arm and wrenched the knife out of his hand, she then spun the Master around and shoved him into a pile of boxes that toppled over, trapping him and knocking the Time Lord out.
"Caitrin, I need something that'll wake my first self up." said the Doctor into her comms.
"Of course." came Caitrin's reply.
There was a sudden flash and a needle appeared on the floor. The Doctor picked it up and jabbed the needle into the First Doctor's arm, after finishing, the Doctor hid behind a pile of boxes and watched as her First self woke up and slowly staggered to his feet. "Oh dear, I feel awfully unwell," he grumbled as he put his hat and cloak on before making his way towards the door, he then took out a handkerchief and coughing into it.
The Doctor waited until she was sure that her first self was gone, she then left and began looking about for a quick way to Totter's Lane. Suddenly, a man in a leather jacket came riding along the street on a moped. The man stopped the moped, got off and removed his helmet, revealing short, greyish-brown hair. The man put his helmet on the seat of the moped and walked towards a shop, humming happily. The Doctor looked at the moped and grinned.
The Doctor cheered in excitement as she sped down the road on the moped.
Meanwhile, Ian's car pulled up just outside the junkyard. Barbara was wearing a buttoned-up, dark grey duffle coat
"Lucky there was no fog," remarked Ian, "We'd never have found this."
"She doesn't seem to have arrived yet," said Barbara before turning to Ian, "I suppose we are doing the right thing, aren't we?"
"You can't justify curiosity." stated Ian.
"But her homework." retorted the History teacher.
"Bit of an excuse really; I've seen far worse," replied Ian, "The truth is we're both curious about Susan and we won't leave here until we know some of the answers."
The First Doctor slowly made his way into Totter's Lane while coughing into his handkerchief and panting.
The Doctor arrived near the junkyard and stopped the moped, she then hopped off and ducked into a small alleyway, where she watched Ian and Barbara talking in the car. Susan suddenly appeared; eating a bag of jelly babies as she walked over to the junkyard.
Inside the car, the two teachers had already spotted Susan.
"Silly; I feel frightened," remarked Barbara, "as if we're about to interfere in something that is best left alone."
"Come on, let's get this over with." said Ian.
The two exited the car and walked over to the junkyard doors.
"Don't you feel it?" asked Barbara nervously.
"I take things as they come; come on." said Ian.
From a distance, the Doctor watched as Ian and Barbara entered the junkyard.
Inside the junkyard, Ian and Barbara began exploring; Ian using a torch to see where they were going.
"What a mess," muttered Ian, "We won't be turning over any of this stuff to find her."
"Over there?" suggested Barbara, pointing to the western part of the junkyard.
Ian began to head in that direction, only to trip over a piece of junk and smash his torch. "Blast! I dropped it!" he snapped in frustration.
"What?" asked Barbara.
"The torch." answered Ian.
"Well, use a match." insisted Barbara.
"I haven't got any." grumbled Ian before getting to his feet.
The two teachers began searching around the junkyard, calling out Susan's name.
"Susan? It's Mr Chesterton and Miss Wright," called out Ian as he continued to search, "Can't have got out without us seeing."
"Ian," said Barbara, "Look at this."
Ian went over to where Barbara was, whereupon he saw the First Doctor's TARDIS. "Why, it's a police box," he cried in surprise, "Well, what on earth's it doing here? These things are usually on the street a-
As soon as Ian rested his hand on the box, he felt something he hadn't expected to feel.
"Feel it," said a surprised Ian, "Feel it, do you feel it?"
Barbara placed her hand on the box. "It's a faint vibration." she replied.
"It's alive." cried an astonished Ian.
The Doctor watched as her First incarnation approached the junkyard; still coughing. "Oh, I feel terribly unwell," he remarked, "When I get back to the ship, I'll have a rest."
The First Doctor coughed as he pushed open the doors and entered the junkyard.
Quite suddenly, the Master leapt out from behind the Doctor and pinned her to the ground. The Doctor struggled as the Master attempted to wrap his hands around her throat. "You won't ruin my revenge!" he snarled.
The Doctor shoved the Master off of her and raced over to the moped, she got on and rode it over to the junkyard doors, blocking the Master's path.
"If I can't ruin your life, then I'll just kill you!" hollered the Master as he tried firing his TCE at the Doctor, who just dodged his attacks.
"OI! What are you two doing!" yelled the policeman who had been patrolling the junkyard earlier.
The policeman charged towards the Master, who quickly fired his TCE at the man. The policeman screamed in agony as a beam of red light hit him, he then shrunk down to a doll-like corpse.
"There was no need for that!" shouted the Doctor in outrage.
"The fool got in the way!" barked the Master.
The Doctor and the Master charged at each other and entered a brawl; exchanging punches and kicks. The Master soon kicked the Doctor in the face and raced over to a black car that the Doctor hadn't noticed before. Realisation suddenly hit the Doctor as she staggered to her feet.
"Of course, the car is your TARDIS!" cried the Doctor in realisation, "You're from a few hours after you've recovered from me knocking you out."
"It takes you a while, but you get there in the end, Doctor!" yelled the Master.
The Doctor charged towards the fake car, opened the door and leapt inside.
The Doctor stood up and found herself in the Master's console room. The room was entirely jet black with white, hexagonal roundals; the console also resembled her more recent console room with white lights on the main console and in the central column. The Master was grinning. "Come into my parlour, said the spider to the fly." he sneered.
Meanwhile, the First Doctor was confronting Ian and Barbara in the junkyard.
"But why won't you help us?" asked Barbara in disbelief.
"I'm not hindering you," retorted the First Doctor, "If you both want to make fools of yourselves, I suggest you go and do what you said you'd do; go and find a policeman."
"While you nip off quietly in the other direction." said Ian, not trusting a word this man said.
"Insulting," muttered the First Doctor, "There's only one way in and out of this yard, I shall be here when you get back. I want to see your faces when you try and explain away your behaviour to a policeman."
"Nevertheless, we're going to find one," said Ian while the First Doctor chuckled, "Come on, Barbara."
"What are you doing out there?" came Susan's voice as the two teachers began to walk away.
"She is in there!" cried Ian in horror as he and Barbara stopped and ran back towards the First Doctor's TARDIS.
"Close the doors!" cried the First Doctor in alarm as he rushed forward and held a struggling Ian by the arms.
"Barbara." gasped Ian as he struggled with the First Doctor.
Barbara charged through the door and suddenly stopped as she found herself in the First Doctor's console room. Ian then ran in, followed by the First Doctor, who looked annoyed. Susan was staring at the trio in shock. She had changed into a red shirt with black stripes. She also wore black trousers.
"Close the doors, Susan." said the First Doctor.
Susan pulled the lever and the doors closed.
"I believe these people are known to you." said Susan's grandfather, indicating Ian and Barbara.
"They're two of my schoolteachers," replied Susan in shock, "What are you both doing here?"
Back in the Master's TARDIS, the Time Lord and Time Lady were exchanging punches and kicks with each other. The Master attempted to run over to the dematerialisation lever, but the Doctor grabbed him from behind and threw the evil Time Lord into a cabinet. The Master then sprang to his feet and rugby tackled the Doctor into the wall, the Doctor punched the Master in the face, sending him crashing to the floor. The Master got up and grabbed a sword from the wall. "On guard, Doctor." he snarled.
The Doctor grabbed another sword and the two entered a sword dual; each one parrying the other's blows. The Doctor then swung her sword at the hilt of the Master's sword, knocking it from his hand, she then took advantage of this distraction by running over to the console, but the Master wrapped an arm around her neck, snarling furiously.
In the First Doctor's console room, the First Doctor was standing at the console; his cloak now hanging from a coat rack.
"The point is whether you don't understand what is going to happen to you?" said the First Doctor, turning to face the two teachers, "They'll tell everybody about the ship now."
"Ship?" said Barbara in confusion.
"Yes, yes, ship," replied the First Doctor as if it should have been obvious, "This thing doesn't go along on wheels you know."
"You mean … it moves?" asked a surprised Barbara.
"The TARDIS can go anywhere." explained Susan.
"TARDIS?" replied Barbara, "I don't understand you, Susan."
"Well I came up with the name TARDIS from the initials Time And Relative Dimension In Space," informed Susan, "I thought you'd both understand when you saw the different dimensions on the inside than those outside."
"Let me get this straight," began Ian in disbelief, "A thing that looks like a police box standing in a junkyard, it can move anywhere in time and space?"
"Yes." said Susan.
"Quite so." replied the First Doctor.
"But that's ridiculous!" cried Ian.
Back in the Master's TARDIS, the Doctor elbowed the Master in the face before running over to the console and flicking switches.
"What do you think you're doing!" barked The Master, "Stop it!"
"Do you remember when we were children on Gallifrey?" began the Doctor, clearly ignoring the Master, "We used to be such good friends, it was the worst day of my life when we fell out. I wanted nothing more than for us to not just remain friends, but best friends."
"What's your point!" snarled the Master.
"Even if you were somehow able to stop the fixed point in my history from happening, it wouldn't ruin my life," said the Doctor coldly, while the Master pulled out a laser gun and began firing on her. The Doctor continued to speak as she dodged the laser fire, which struck the console, sending sparks flying, "Don't you see? You already did that a long time ago. If it wasn't for Cerrel, the richest man in the universe, I wouldn't be the person I am today. He may not have had money and jewels, but he was one of the wisest men I've ever known; he took away all my pain, and soon, I got over our lost friendship."
"That's very touching, Doctor, but it won't save you." leered the Master.
The Doctor dodged another blast of laser fire before opening a panel on the console and began jabbing at the controls.
"You know the good thing about you having a Type 40 TARDIS too," began the Doctor as she put her hand into the panel, "I know how to stop it from working."
The Doctor then pulled out the dematerialisation circuit, causing large sparks to fly from the console, she then ran out the doors. "BYE!" she yelled in triumph.
"DOCTOR! DOCTOR GET BACK HERE!" thundered the Master before storming after the Doctor.
Inside the First Doctor's TARDIS, the First Doctor pulled the dematerialisation lever.
"Oh no, Grandfather, no!" cried Susan in horror as she ran over to the First Doctor and attempted to pull him away from the console.
"Let me go!" barked the First Doctor as he struggled to push Susan away.
"NO!" cried Susan as she continued her attempt to pull her grandfather away from the console.
"Get back to the ship, child!" snapped the First Doctor as the console room began to shake, forcing Susan to let go and run over to another side of the console, "Hold it!"
Ian and Barbara staggered as the room continued to shake.
There was a groaning and wheezing sound. The lamp on the roof of the TARDIS flashed as the police box slowly faded away until it was gone completely.
The Master ran over to the junkyard, where he saw the Doctor sitting on the moped, grinning. "My first self has already left with my granddaughter and her two schoolteachers. You failed." she informed him.
"You'll pay for this, Doctor!" snapped the Master.
"Goodbye Zita-Ita. Have fun being stuck in 1963 with a faulty TARDIS!" cheered the Doctor before riding off on the moped.
The Master screamed in frustration, he then ran back into his TARDIS and attempted to start it up. The familiar groaning and wheezing started, but soon died down. The Master ran back outside and kicked the side of the car in frustration, only for him to start howling in pain and hopping around on one foot.
In the wastelands of a prehistoric Earth, a strong wind picked up, which was followed by a groaning and wheezing sound. The First Doctor's TARDIS slowly faded into existence before becoming solid with a soft thump.
Inside the console room, the First Doctor and Susan stood at the console; the later giving her grandfather a horrified expression. Ian lay on the floor unconscious, while Barbara was slumped in a chair.
Outside, the shadow of a humanoid figure loomed across the sand and over the TARDIS doors.
(AN) And that was the penultimate chapter in this fan novelisation of Doctor Who: Genesis. I hope you all enjoy, and remember to Read and Review.
The next chapter will be much shorter and will wrap up the plot quite nicely.
Until then, this is TimeLordMaster108 signing out.
