Finding that Wally wasn't even at the Gym was a fair bit upsetting, but it did certainly bring to light something I could've used before. Realization that I shouldn't rush. Rushing things only leads to mistakes, you have to have a plan! And just saying to myself this fight will end with me wiping him will sort of… end badly. I cannot get too ahead of myself! Or the rest of the gang, I was a good few steps ahead of the tour of the museum. I stopped to let the others catch up, just as we had started observing a display on the evolutions of Eevee and the evolutionary energy within Elemental Stones. "Sorry guys, I got stuck thinking to myself."
I look up at the diagram they have on the wall, displaying how when the Elemental energy is transferred into Pokemon it will overcharge their inner biology to the point of evolving in order to maintain said energy. It was at this point that I realized… I am an idiot and I should probably actually pay attention. This would be good to remember, because, Arceus, do I not know how half of the Elemental Stones work. I looked over to Dallas and stepped over to talk to him. "You were right, this was a good idea. Sorry I just joked about it earlier."
Dallas looked up to me and grinned some, just giving a nod as we took a step over to the next display. It was another example of Pokemon evolution, this time showing the gender differences and how they directly link to how they evolve. "No problem, man! I know this kinda thing isn't for everyone, thanks for humoring me." He took a moment to look at the diagram before bringing up his PokeNav. "Oh, hey, since we're learning evolution right now, do you know how long until your guys evolve?"
"Oh, uh…" I was a little puzzled on that, not exactly certain one the necessities for that. I know Blue doesn't evolve, and Silky has the full cocoon situation to go through. "Well, I know Jazz has to be at either midnight or midday, so maybe it just has to be directly under the sun or moon during that?" I shrug in genuine uncertainty, continuing to go along with the group.
Candice actually cocked her head back hearing this, speaking in. "I worked a lot with Rockruff and Lycanroc back in Alola, and there's actually three potential evolutions. Midday, Midnight, and the Dusk evolutions, and you're right! Just need the proper exposure to the right times of day and night and, uh… whatever dusk is considered."
"I think it's still day time," I responded, just giving a nod. "Thanks, Candice. I'm gonna have to remember that."
I stopped talking as we kept on moving, seeing a number of other examples of biomes and their connections to Pokemon, then the states of nature and how they directly infused certain Pokemon with something called 'Infinity Energy', something that gives them their typing and ability to use moves. This actually led to a large tapestry styled mural hung on the walls above the exhibit. There were several examples of Infinity Energy and their connected types of Pokemon, a good number relating to both Alola and Galar. Apparently the Infinity Energy in Galar has caused a major series of events leading to the arrival of an interplanetary Legendary Pokemon all the way to the creation of the Dynamax and Gigantamax phenomena.
Looking over the continuously telling tapestry, I spotted the Gigantamaxed Pokemon, humongous alterations of semi-regular Pokemon. Butterfree, Meowth, Snorlax, Houndoom, Centiskorch… I was honestly surprised at how many were able to do this. In all honesty, I wished that sensation was elsewhere than just Galar, it would be awesome to do! Although… I am not a very strong person so using those massive Pokeballs would not be a good time for me.
"That," Dallas said, knocking me out of my train of thought, "Is overall what I've been looking into. Natural phenomena that alters Pokemon. The translation collar is just a pet project, but nature? That's my deal." He smiled looking down from the artwork taking another step to some more of the setup, this one having a more detailed design of the Legendary that caused said Gigantimax phenomena: Eternatus. "I still do not like these things, but that's the cause of it. Big hand looking thing, supposedly from another planet or just space in general."
"Ooo, space, wonderful." Vincent said in a mildly sarcastic manner, "Why are there so many alien Pokemon? Like, this is going to sound extremely bad, and I am sorry for that, but I don't like the idea of Pokemon from other planets here and stuff. Space is…" He stopped for a moment before shaking his head, "Yeah, nope, nevermind. No thinking about that."
The rest of us sort of unanimously agreed between ourselves not to carry on anymore into that, seeing with how Vincent instantly turned back on his statement. Candice cleared her throat a little to try and fail in suspending any sense of awkwardness in the situation. "Well, that's a cool thing to look into PiT. Maybe you could find a way to get that Dyna-whatever to be in more places than just that one long road of a region!" She chuckled, giving Dallas a pat on the back, walking forward down to the exit of the evolution section of the museum with us behind her.
Standing back in the general main hall of the museum where all the commotion happened yesterday, we all looked around at the other options we had for meandering. While we started discussing the exhibits we could see, one of my Pokeballs actually started shaking in my bag, quickly followed by the stream of energy sending Jazz out onto the floor in front of us. She turned a few times in a circle before barking up at us to get our attention.
I looked over to Dallas who just quickly nods, bringing out a Dive Ball and letting out Jet. "Hey, Jet," he said, kneeling down a little bit, "Just gotta borrow this, okay?"
Jet nodded and lifted his chin to show the collar. "Alright, give it to whoever needs-" He stopped when he heard Jazz barking, turning to face her, his two tails tweaking a little. "Oh, especially if this little pup needs it." He let out a little chuckle before the collar was quickly taken off of him.
Dallas just transferred the collar over to Jazz quickly. "Okay, not going to touch on that one. This feel comfortable for you Jazz?" He locked it on before pressing the button to turn it back on. Really tedious process having to go on and off between changing Pokemon.
Jazz just barked regularly before going into the robotic voice of the collar. "Oh, yes, thank you, it feels very comfortable!" She confirmed to PiT, looking back at me. "I heard you in that room! I would like Midnight please! I wanna evolve and I wanna be the big bad Midnight Form! I wanna be red!"
I looked down at her for a moment before a question not actually relating to what she was asking came to mind. "Wait, you can see red? I thought you were colorblind. Uh, anyways, yeah, yeah, we can do that. Sure you wanna go for the Midnight Lycanroc?" I pull out my Pokedex and scan Jazz, bringing up to the page of Rockruff and just sliding the pages to her second possible evolution form and letting the voice speak.
"Lycanroc, the Wolf Pokemon. This solitary Pokemon will often ignore orders if it does not like them, typically only acting in ways that will guarantee taking down it's opponent. They are only obedient to Trainers that can draw their full power."
I just stared at the description for a moment before glancing back to Jazz whose tail was wagging like crazy, seeming to be extremely excited at the description. "I'll, uh… yeah, I'll keep that in mind. Definitely a strong choice." I cleared my throat a little and pulled out her Pokeball again. "Hey, could you go back in by chance? They don't let Pokemon into the actual exhibits and I think we're eyeing the fossil section over there."
"Oh, thank you thank you thank you! Yes, I'll go back in! Oh, but take the collar back, someone else could use it more!" She gave a regular yap after this, lolling her tongue out.
I lean down to remove the collar before straightening up, holding out the ball as the light starts to envelop her and retrieve her once again. I look down at her ball for a moment before returning the ball into my pack and handing the collar over to Dallas. "I am now only slightly anxious about her evolution, but happy she is excited about it! I should probably try and get everyone else up to that point..." I shake my head and started towards the prehistoric portion of the museum. "But until then, I am going to enjoy my time here."
Dallas equipped Jet with the collar once again before returning him, following on behind me. "Agreed! Let's get this bone show going! I hate what I just said, Arceus dammit. I have to pay more attention to what I say when excited."
"And that my friends is why Mega Evolution is, by definition, torture and inhumane and should not be legal in any sense of the word." Vincent finished his small rant at the base of a couple of skeletons, the two Mega Evolutions of Charizard, and a base Charizard skeleton in between them.
We just stood there looking at the ex-Grunt before I just gave a small nod. "I… was never planning on using that before, and now I absolutely will never do that. Holy shit, that's horrible. But, like, also, why even bring that up when we're looking at fossils?" It was an important question really. This was kind of random.
"Because," He said with a little bit of excitement, turning to face the skeletons, "You can clearly see where the Mega Evolution caused the bone structure to crack, separate, and instantly heal during the transformation! Why do you think half of these Mega skeletons are super messed up?"
He made a solid point with that, thinking back. The Glalie skeleton looked like it was just snapped in half, the Lucario had shattered forearms with the spikes sticking straight though with jagged points, Mawile's second head-mouth thing looked split like it was more skull plates than actual solid bones… I am so happy that Mega Evolution has gotten a lot more regulated, but it does anger me knowing just how bad it is and still being legal. Messed up stuff.
"This is why I like looking at skeletons, despite how weird that sounds," Vincent said, continuing under a large hanging skeleton of an Aerodactly. "You can see just what happens in a Pokemon's life! Beautiful, beautiful stuff." He stopped in his place before letting out a laugh. "Oh shit, I think I might actually like paleohistory."
I gave a smile and shrugged at that. "Well, at least you have interests outside of hunting legendaries. Actually, we haven't really gotten a good handle on you yet, have we?" I asked, instantly catching the ridiculous wording I used. "Sorry, I'm talking fake smart, being in this place made me weird. What are you into? That's a better way of asking it."
Vincent cocked his head in confusion at my question, going quiet and thinking about it. "Huh, I thought I already mentioned it some? Well, I did kinda find out I'm into the history stuff I guess. Uh, while I was on a mission in Hoenn I tried out a few of those contest things, I really liked those! Kind of a theater kid really, uh…" He stopped for a moment and sort of just stared into the middle distance in silence. "I don't know much else really. Always kinda just went with the flow, never steered down a specific fork in the stream. I may need a hobby."
"One that isn't criminal activity."
Unsurprisingly, saying that without thinking got a very firm hit across the back of my head from Candice. "You keep bringing that up for no reason and I'm gonna bust your kneecaps. Let the dude go on about his needing to do stuff, he's more than a shitty color combination outfit."
"Okay, two things," Dallas said, chiming in before I was able to say anything sarcastic. "First, I did make jokes about the combination but I do actually legit like purple and white. And second, Vincent? You were a theater kid? Dude, that is like… the best thing to be into in Unova, you do know that right? You've been stationed here for how long again?" Vince just gave a shrug at this as Dallas almost instantly went into his next point. "Dude? The Pokestar Studios! They have that amatuer filming thing, you can literally be in a movie.
"I… wait, what?" Vince asked.
"Yeah! My Mew, how in the world did you not know this? Guess it's a good thing I'm the only one here who actually grew up in this region!" Dallas seemed very happy at this, having a moment to be the one knowledgeable on something besides just science. "Alright, let me fill you in on all that, dude."
"Alright, so going down to Virbank, I hit up the Gym, we will catch a concert if they're playing, and then go to the studio!" I finished summarizing our new plans, typing it into my PokeNav so I get all of my new temporary goals set in. "I am loving this, Dallas. You are a genius."
Dallas just smiled and put his hands behind his head, giving a light shrug as we came to the end of the fossil section. "Hey, it's nothing really! Just, like, y'know? We're going on your thing with the League, Vince wants to try out the movie things, Candice…" He stopped for a moment turning to look at the Ranger.
Candice just shrugged a little. "I can get my pink touched up down there, they have a hair place. Oh, and the music too. Concert season baby!"
Before any of us are to say anything else we are waved over by a museum worker in a lab coat. "Oh, pardon me," She called out to us, "Sorry to intrude, but did I hear that one of you is going for the Gym Challenge? I believe I may have something that can assist you!" We all look at each other a little bit before I just shrug and take my first steps, to which the worker just smiled. "Ah, hello there! So, do you require a Pokemon to go against the Leader of this Gym, Wally?"
I think for a moment and realize something… I don't know what Psychic is weak to, so I could potentially use a quick and easy hand out. "I mean, if you're offering."
"I am! And I do believe I have the perfect option for you!" She went over to a desk nearby and went behind it, looking underneath it and pulling out what looked like a weird rock. "Here I have a Claw Fossil, which we are capable of reviving into the ancient Pokemon known as Anorith! It is part Bug-Type, meaning it will provide you with the Type advantage!'
"Oh! Well, I mean… if you're just handing them out, why not?" Seemed like an easy new Pokemon and some extra power! "Yes, I would like Anorith, please. Science is so cool being able to do just that."
"Why yes, it very much is! And we shall get the revival going right this moment! May I have your name, young man? So if you speak with any other workers come the time it is revived. Should only be a few hours, perhaps tomorrow if anything doesn't go to plan."
"Oh, yeah, I'm Walter. Walter Childs, if you need the last name or whatever."
The scientist wrote some things down on a paper behind the desk and nodded. "Of course! We shall get started right away and your Anorith will be ready soon!"
"Thank you, again! Oh Arceus, I could need it. I definitely need a Bug-Type, because I definitely knew those were strong against Psychic-Types. Absolutely." I am boned if I don't learn this stuff.
