Ten weeks later !

A new year had begun, and February was just around the corner. Chris was still not pregnant. She pretended it was no big deal, kept smiling and focused on the job. But Street was not fooled. He knew it irritated her every time her period came, although she did her best not to show it. He did everything possible to comfort her, but he felt helpless in the face of the disappointment he read each time in her eyes.

It was a quiet morning at S.W.A.T. HQ, and it was time for lunch break. Street found his wife in the shooting range. He waited for her to finish emptying her magazine before approaching her to hug her.

"I hope it's not me you imagined through that target." he said to try to make her laugh.

"Nope !" she giggled.

Yes, he told himself. She removed her goggles and noise canceling headphones from her ears.

"You're hungry ?" he asked. "It's time for lunch. I take us to eat at the food-truck ?"

"Not really." She closed her hands over his.

"Chris…"

"I know, with our job I have to eat." she said, huffing. "Do you mind getting my usual salad ?"

"Of course not !" He kissed her on the cheek. "I'll be quick."

He turned her to face him to steal a real kiss before leaving the shooting room. Along the way, he met Luca.

"Hey, can you come with me ? I'm going to buy food for Chris."

"Yeah, let's go !" agreed his friend. "I need to get out of here a bit."

...

Ten minute ride. That was the time it took for Street to get to the salad bar where they were serving Chris's favorite salad. He would take the opportunity to take one too. He sighed at a red light.

"Are you okay ?" Luca asked. "Chris doesn't seem good."

"Yeah, I know." Street said. "She's still not pregnant, and that makes her sad. She tries to hide it so it doesn't interfere with work."

"I'm sorry, mate." Luca said. "Have you done any sterility tests ?"

"No not yet. We gave ourselves a year before, but I'm afraid that Chris will give up."

The light turned green. He restarted.

"No, not Chris." Luca said. "She's not one to give up. Trust me mate, you'll get this baby."

And Street hoped so with all his heart.

Back at HQ, he went in search of his wife, when he came across a person he had not seen for several months. He never really saw her, except when she came to visit her father, but he usually knew she would be there and he did everything to avoid her. He no longer had any feelings for Molly Hicks, and his affair with her, although it counted for a part of his life, was a thing of the past. She was a beautiful woman, he didn't deny it, but she no longer had any effect on him.

"Jimmy, hi !"

"Don't call me that." he replied, without raising his voice.

Chris was the only one who could call him that.

"Sorry, old habit." Molly smiled.

"It's been over three years, so stop bullshitting me." he said. "Excuse me, I have to find Chris."

"Yes uh, I'm glad to see you. It was a long time ago." she says.

"And I'm married now, and I'd like to go find my wife, if you'll excuse me." he said, not hiding his eagerness to get as far away from her as possible.

"I know I did wrong, but can't we be nice to each other and have a normal chat ?" she asked. "Water has flowed under the bridges…"

"I really have to go." he says.

Especially since Chris was coming out of a hallway in front of him, and she had stopped dead when she saw them. Street didn't even bother to say bye to Molly on the way to meet her. His wife was edgy enough as it was, he wasn't crazy enough to overdo it.

"Hey !" he said, showing her the bag of food. "I was just coming to get you."

"What did she want ?" Chris asked, referring to Molly.

"Well, she was happy to see me, and she wants us to be courteous when we pass each other." he says. "And if it can reassure you, I didn't answer anything. I only wanted one thing, to come and find you. Can we forget Molly and go to lunch ? I'm starting to get hungry."

"Yeah, let's go !" she said smiling.

She was unable to resist him when he gave her that little boy pout he was making right now. They went to the HQ kitchen, and sat side by side around the table.

"Hmm, I was hungry." Chris admitted after swallowing her first bite.

"Yeah, I kinda suspected that." Street said. "Honey, I know you're upset, and I wish I could do something to help you. You know you can talk to me, you don't have to pretend that everything is fine, not with me."

"I know." After wiping her mouth with a napkin, she took her husband's left hand and brought it to her lips. "You're doing whatever it takes, I assure you, and I will pull myself together, I promise. »

"Hey, can I talk to you ?"

Luca entered the kitchen and closed the door behind him.

"Sorry, if I bother you just say so…"

"You don't !" Chris reassured him. "What's going on ?"

"I just need your opinion on something." Luca said, setting a box on the table.

"Luca, my friend, I adore you but I am already married." Street said with a smile on his face.

"Can you be serious for a second, please ?" Luca asked, as Chris giggled.

Street picked it up and opened it.

"Is that a pink diamond ?" he choked out.

"Yeah, Ally loves them." Luca said. "So, how do you find it ?"

"The ring is gorgeous, Luca, and Ally is going to love it." Chris assured. "But I want to be sure of one thing : it's an engagement ring, isn't it ?"

"Yes Chris, it's an engagement ring." Luca said. "And yes, I will ask Ally to marry me. I've been thinking about it for a while, in fact ever since we got back together, but I didn't want to rush anything. You were in the middle of planning your wedding, and I didn't want to spoil that. It was your moment, and I had to wait for mine."

"When are you going to do this ?" asked Street, returning the box.

"It's her birthday soon, and I've planned to spend the day with her." Luca said. "I took a day off to make sure I could spend it just with her. You don't say anything, can I count on you ?"

"Obviously !" Chris promised.

"I'd keep my mouth shut." Street reassured him. "All that's left is to marry off Hondo."

The three friends laughed. Luca came out of the kitchen to put the ring in a safe place in his locker.

"I didn't expect that." Street said.

"Hold your tongue, or I'll cut it off and you won't be able to use it on me again." Chris warned him.

"Do you know it turns me on when you talk to me like that ?"

Chris replied with a simple smile.

The day passed without any investigation. And yet, Chris was exhausted. They had practiced in the morning, and the rest of the day had been done alone or in a group. Training in the gym, at the shooting range. Cleaning weapons etc… The young woman left her bag in the entrance and went directly to collapse on the sofa.

"Are you alright, my love ?"

"I'm tired, and we haven't done anything all day." she said, huffing.

He smiled before joining her, but he knelt beside her.

"You're complaining because we had a quiet day." he said. "Hmm, interesting, Mrs. Street. If you need some action, we can go in the shower."

"Only if you carry me." she said, holding out her arms.

Street rolled his eyes but took her in his own.

"I didn't know you were so lazy." he teased, helping her out of her clothes. "Should I be worried ?"

"Worry what will happen to you, if you don't make love to me in the next twenty seconds." she warned him, undressing him in turn.

"I only have twenty seconds ?" he said, mock outraged. "But I need more time to make you cum properly."

He picked her up, she wrapped her legs around him. In the shower, he turned on the water jet and they were sprayed with cold water, eliciting a slight cry of surprise from Chris. Street adjusted the temperature, then slammed his wife against the glass shower wall.

"My twenty seconds are up ?" he breathed hoarsely. She smiled, nodding her head. "Let me fix it quickly, my love."

He picked her up so he could possess her. Chris closed in completely around and on him. Their mouths against each other, their breath panting, they were in their bubble. A bubble made of glass and water. Street began to move, penetrating her with small movements of the hips which had their effect on the young woman. Moans, gasps, the bathroom was filled with them as the penetrations accelerated. They cum in a perfect together. They finished their shower, Street doing most of the work and taking care of his wife, who was showing obvious signs of fatigue. If he was worried about it, he said nothing. If Chris felt bad, she would tell him, but it only seemed like exhaustion. Perhaps their failed attempts – so far – to have a child were undermining her more than she let on, or than he imagined. He dressed her in a sweater belonging to him, and panties before putting her to bed.

"Chris, tell me are you okay ?"

"Hmm, sleep, that's all."

He kissed her on the forehead before leaving the room. Chris's sudden fatigue was weird. Maybe he should take her to see a doctor. He was going to wait first to see how she would feel once she woke up. In the meantime, he concocted a sandwich and ate it in front of the TV. He stood in front of the news channels for a while before turning on Netflix and playing a movie. No question of him continuing the ongoing series he was watching with Chris, or starting a new one. Not without her. Sipping a beer, he was watching John McClain take out the Yakatomi Plazza terrorists one by one when Chris shuffled and yawned over to him.

"Hey, my love !" He put his freshly tapped beer on the coffee table, and was about to get up, but Chris lay down on the sofa, her head resting on his lap. "Are you okay ?"

"Yeah, I just want to be with you."

"Do you want to eat something ?" he asked her.

"No, I'm not hungry." she said, closing her eyes.

She went back to sleep. Ok, that was not normal. Chris was never this tired. Not wanting to wake her, he said nothing and watched the end of the film, without touching his beer. The movie finished, he turned off the TV and took Chris in his arms to carry her back to bed.

"Where you go ?" she asked, half-awake, as he pulled away from the bed.

"I'll be back in five minutes. Promise !" he said.

He went to check that the door was locked. His bottle of beer barely touched, he emptied it into the kitchen sink before throwing it in the trash, then retrieved his phone. He hesitated for a second to call Hondo to take his day off to take care of Chris, but he gave up. He would see tomorrow morning, when he woke up. Turning off the lights in his path, he went to his room and slipped into bed. Chris snuggled into him as soon as he lay down. He closed his arms around her. Her breathing stabilized, a sign that she was sound asleep. Street, on the other hand, took a long time to fall asleep. He replayed the day in a loop in his head, without having the slightest explanation of what could be going on with his wife.

4:30 !

The bed was empty next to him when he reached for his wife. He opened his eyes and found that she was gone. Street stood up, eyes misty with fatigue, to find his wife sitting at the kitchen counter eating.

"Are we a little hungry, my love ?"

He leaned against the kitchen counter, facing his wife who was dipping a banana in peanut butter. She mumbled a hum hum, shrugging her shoulders.

"I thought you hated mixing peanut butter with other foods ?" Street said. "You only eat it with bread, usually."

"I know, but I wanted to." Chris said.

Street frowned. Chris hated mixing her peanut butter, especially with fruit. He didn't either, but Chris doing it at 4:30 in the morning was kind of weird.

"It's not bad." Chris said, shoving a piece of peanut butter banana in her mouth.

He watched her eat without making the slightest comment, when she got up suddenly to rush into the bathroom. Street followed her, and found her with her head in the toilet bowl, throwing up.

"See, you shouldn't have mixed the…"

"Shut up !" she snapped, before throwing up again.

She leaned back against the wall behind her when she had nothing left to vomit.

"I'm taking you to the hospital." said Street, who knelt in front of her, a wet washcloth in his hand. "And you don't argue."

"Okay !" she said as he swiped the glove over her face. "Hmm, that feels good."

"I have no idea what's happening to you, but I don't like seeing you like this." He helped her up and stayed with her while she brushed her teeth. "You want to take a shower ?"

She nodded, but she took her shower by herself. She felt better about not having him keep watching her. He went to get dressed, then into the kitchen to put away what Chris had brought out.

"Jimmy !"

He had just put his shoes on when she called him. He found her in the bedroom, where she had put on a sports bra and shorts.

"What's the matter ?"

Chris was standing, and had her hands resting on either side of her stomach.

"I…I haven't seen anything before." she says. "I didn't pay attention."

"Chris…"

"I…I think I'm pregnant." she breathed. "Unless I indulged in the food, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was it."

"But… but you had your period last week." he reminded her, before shaking his head. "Okay, finish getting dressed and we're going to the hospital."

...

She dozed, her head resting on her husband's shoulder, as they waited their turn in the emergency room.

"Maybe I should call Hondo and tell him we're taking our day off." Street said. "So I can take care of you."

"Hmm !"

"Mr. and Mrs. Street ?"

The couple got up and followed the doctor. She was a woman in her forties, blonde hair tied in a bun. Once in the auscultation box, the doctor drew a curtain to isolate them.

"So what brings you here ?" she asked. "In your file, you did not specify anything in particular. Just that you're tired and throwing up."

"I…I think I'm pregnant." said Chris, who had sat up on the bed, Street standing beside her. "It's very weird, I had my period last week, and the last tests I did were all negative."

"Your Beta-HCG level must have been too low to be detected by a urine test, or the test was unreliable." said the doctor. "You had no symptoms before today ?"

"No, none." Chris said.

"What do you do for a living ?"

"We are S.W.A.T. !" Street said.

"So a lot of stress and physical activities." understood the doctor. "Very well, I will take your blood, and I will order all the necessary tests, including the Beta-HCG. Do you have an obstetrician following you ?"

"Yes, Doctor Keysler, she works here." replied Chris.

"Doctor Keysler won't be on shift for several hours, but I'll send her the file for this consultation, and I'll ask the lab to send her the results of your blood test. She will contact you when she has them."

"Got it !" Chris said.

"Free one of your arms, please !"

The doctor took three tubes of blood from her, put them in a transparent bag and wrote Chris's name on them.

"Take your day, Mrs. Street." she told her. "I'll pass on a stop for your boss. Rest up, and you'll talk to your doctor once you have the results of your tests."

"Ok, Doctor !" Chris said, getting up from the bed. "Thank you !"

She yawned very hard.

"I suggest you take your wife home to sleep for a few hours."

What he did.

Back at their apartment...

"Do you want to eat something ?" Street asked him. "Preferably something normal that won't make you throw up your guts ?"

"No, I'm going to go to bed." Chris said. "Joining me ?"

"Let me call Hondo and tell him that he will have to do without you today." Street said. "I would join them if they have a case, but otherwise I stay with you."

"Ok !"

She went into the bedroom, took off her shoes and slipped into bed. Closing her eyes, she prayed with all her might. It wasn't her style, but she did. She prayed very hard for her to be pregnant.
