"What's your favorite gift that your significant other got you?" Chat Noir asked Ladybug as they sat on the highest beams of the Eiffel Tower looking over their city. He looked over at her and it was clear that she was contemplating how to answer the question.
"A guitar pick, I guess," she responded, "he wasn't really the gift giving type, though. He was a great guy, but 'gift-giving' wasn't really his love language. The guitar pick was just my favorite because it was something important between the two of us. He actually gave it to me the day we met and I customized it for him and gave it back as a necklace after we started dating."
"That sounds sweet," Chat responded, crossing his legs. "Not super helpful for me, but sweet." He was so distracted thinking about what he should do for Marinette that he didn't even notice Ladybug using the past tense when she talked about her relationship.
"Is Chat Noir in the cat house in his relationship," Ladybug asked him. He stuck his tongue out at his partner and she giggled lightly. "Does the ever romantic Chat Noir not have any ideas to impress his significant other?"
"Girlfriend," he offered, "she's my girlfriend. And the first one I didn't have to date for business purposes. Gift-giving is one of my love languages, but I don't want to accidentally get her the wrong thing and scare her away or something." He layed back where he was sitting, staring up at the night sky and trying to find any constellations.
"Well, what does your girlfriend like," Ladybug asked, "vaguely, of course."
"Me," he half-joked, "she likes superheroes and she's really creative. She's actually trying to pursue a career in a creative field and it's something I could actually help her with, but I feel like she'd want to succeed in her own right, so I don't want to interfere with that if I can avoid it. We haven't been together very long, but we're supposed to go on a double date and I feel like I should bring her something."
"Think she'd want an autograph?" Ladybug joked in reaction which made Chat Noir chuckle. "Because I think that's the best suggestion that I can offer without knowing more about your girlfriend." She immediately looked at him. "If you tell me anything more about your girlfriend, you're in trouble. No getting this girl wrapped up in your hero life unless there's an emergency."
"I know, LB," he agreed, "I don't want to get her targeted or anything. I won't interact with her as Chat Noir any more than I would talk to any other civilian." He mentally amended that he was allowed to talk to her if she happened to be there next time Chat Noir did an interview with Alya for the Ladyblog, but that's it.
"You can never go wrong with flowers, worst case scenario," she told him, "they have plenty of meanings, so as long as you're not starting off with a bouquet of 'I'm-in-love-with-you-red-roses' they should be a pretty safe choice… Assuming she's not allergic to flowers." Chat Noir nodded in agreement to Ladybug's suggestion.
"Thanks, bug," he said with a smile on his face.
"Anything for the power of love," she responded, grinning back at him. From his baton, he texted his phone a reminder to ask Alya if Marinette had any allergies. "Now, come on, we should head home before we both end up exhausted tomorrow." She stood up and walked over to him. She reached a hand out to him and helped him stand from his lying position.
"You're probably right," he sighed. "Same time for patrol on Sunday?" Ladybug nodded and took off for the night. She looked like she was going in the general direction of his university, but that wasn't surprising. Ladybug was close to his age and there were plenty of apartment buildings near the university that would make good first places to live away from home.
Marinette and Adrien were supposed to go on their first double date with Alya and Nino on Thursday of that week. Marinette was nervous leading to the date, but it was mostly just nerves about making sure her outfit looked good. She was nervous about the dress because the superhero wasn't well known.
The boys decided to pick up their dates from their apartment and Adrien showed up with a small bouquet of 5 pink roses. When Marinette opened the door, they were both surprised to see that the light color of the roses almost perfectly matched the pink details of her superhero inspired dress.
"I brought these for you," he said with a shy smile on his face. He held the flowers out to Marinette and she took them from his hand with a blush spread across her cheeks.
"Thank you, Adrien," she said, adding a smile on her face. "Let me put these into some water then we can head out." She moved into the kitchen and grabbed a little vase. She filled it with water and Adrien couldn't help but to keep his eyes on her as she moved around the kitchen to put up the roses.
Grey and pink. He could immediately identify that it was meant to pay homage to the mouse hero, but the aesthetic didn't fit with Polymouse's look. He didn't think he knew a lot about that particular superheroine, but as someone who was raised around fashion, he could tell that the look wasn't supposed to be inspired by her.
The details on the seams were clearly inspired by the symbol on the mouse Miraculous and he was just staring, racking his brain, trying to figure out why the dress and space buns were niggling at the back of his mind.
"Wow, Marinette," Nino said, admiring the dress as well, "the Polymouse dress came out great. It looks even better than your sketch did."
"It isn't Polymouse," Marinette and Adrien corrected at the same time and Marinette was surprised that someone else was able to identify that it wasn't the better known mouse hero. "I mean, it's a superhero, and a mouse one, but there was a different one before Polymouse, right? I don't know the name, but she was broadcast when that teacher was akumatized."
Marinette hadn't known any of the fight was broadcasted, but she figured that it was convenient he said that so she wouldn't have to explain how she knew about another superhero. "I heard her name was Multimouse," Marinette offered. "Apparently she was part of the fight against Mme. Mendelieve when we were in collège."
Adrien knew why he knew about Multimouse, but he didn't know why Marinette did. He also didn't know why Marinette's space buns made her look like a perfectly aged-up version of the girl he saw Multimouse detransform into that day, but he had a theory. He couldn't ask Ladybug the name of the girl from that day because that would be suspicious, but he wanted to.
There was a chance he was going on a date with a superhero. That probably shouldn't be a surprise to him. He was a superhero, he knew that there were others in Paris, so it was definitely possible that he'd meet more undercover superheroes during his time in the city, especially now that he was meeting more people than he ever had before.
The four of them went out to have dinner that night. Adrien let Marinette make the first moves in their 'relationship.' When she reached out to take his hand, he smiled and tried to put a loving look on his face while they walked. At dinner, they shared meals, painting the picture of a happy couple in their honeymoon stage.
After dinner, the four of them walked into the cool crisp air of the evening. "Do you guys want to go find André?" Alya asked the two of them. Marinette and Adrien looked at each other and Marinette smiled softly at him.
"I think I should head home," she said, then she gave Adrien's hand a quick squeeze, "if that would be okay with you? We can grab ice cream on our walk, but I don't know that I'm up for tracking down André tonight."
Adrien smiled and squeezed her hand in response. "That sounds perfect," he told her with a soft smile spread on his lips. They said goodbye to Nino and Alya, exchanging hugs with the other couple and Marinette put her arm around Adrien's waist as they walked away. He responded by putting his arm around her shoulders.
