Marinette was unsurprised when Rena Rouge showed up outside her window a few moments after the call ended. She didn't know if Alya had heard her through the walls or if she had heard about the situation from Nino, but Marinette was thankful she was there either way. She really didn't want to figure out a way for Marinette to get up to that rooftop.

Unlike when Carapace brought Adrien up to the rooftop, it was more comfortable when Rena Rouge carried Marinette. Marinette didn't need to direct Rena Rouge where to go and she saw that the fox heroine was looking at the little turtle icon on the GPS in her flute as they bounded over the rooftops.

By the time the two women arrived, the sun had completely set and that somehow made the entire rooftop experience look even more romantic, stunning Marinette when they landed. The two guys had been laughing when Rena made contact with the roof and it looked like they were solidly over the hurdle of 'being on a date'.

"So, then Chat Noir says 'you've cat to be kitten me right meow'," Carapace finished the story that he was telling and Adrien was tearing up with laughter. Adrien wiped away the dampness from his eye and Marinette was happy to see that the two were getting along well. Rena let Marinette down and Marinette went over to Adrien.

Adrien stood up excitedly and met Marinette in the middle of where he was sitting and where she landed with Rena. She was surprised by just how quickly Adrien wrapped her in a hug and how tightly he held her in his arms. With the size of his gesture, Marinette half expected him to get carried away and kiss her, but he didn't.

"This has been an amazing gift, princess," he said sincerely, giving her one more squeeze for good measure. "Thank you. I know it probably didn't end up going as you expected it to, but I can't believe how much effort you put in to make this happen for me." He placed a loving kiss on her forehead. "You're really the best. I love you."

Marinette blushed under his attention and couldn't help the smile that bloomed on her face in reaction. "I love you, too. I'm so glad you're having fun," she told him. She looked at the fairy lights as they twinkled on the rooftop. "Wow, you were right about it looking like I was trying to set you up on a date, though." She added a fond giggle.

"Well, maybe you were," he said with a smile on his face. "Carapace, if you wouldn't mind." Carapace had hooked his shield up to the bluetooth speaker and started playing a song for the two of them. "Princess," he bowed slightly in front of her, "would you do me the honor of dancing with me?"

"Of course," Marinette responded. Marinette wrapped her arms around his neck and he wrapped his arms around her waist. Marinette rested her head onto his chest area and he rested his head on hers. He felt a little weird with how brazenly he felt like he was flirting with Marinette, but she was supposed to be his girlfriend, right? He was supposed to be acting like he has feelings for her.

Marinette found herself enjoying the feeling of being in his arms while they danced. She didn't know why he wanted to dance with her that night, but she found herself having fun while they danced. There was more of a variety to the songs they danced to than she expected, most songs were slow, but in a few songs they picked up speed and he spun her around the roof while Carapace did the same with Rena.

Marinette laughed as they danced and Rena Rouge had to resist her urge to take pictures of the two of them being sweet together. There was no way Alya would be able to get the pictures that were taken by Rena Rouge. Marinette's eyes were filled with joy as they danced and she looked happier than she'd been in the years she dated Luka. Alya had been mostly joking when she had said the two of them were soulmates, but after tonight she was convinced she wasn't wrong.

"Did you see your cake?" Marinette asked Adrien when they were back to dancing along to a slow song. He hadn't, but he also didn't think he needed a cake if his other option was to keep having the best birthday he'd ever had dancing with her.

"Dupain-Cheng cake?" Carapace asked excitedly, much less subtle about eavesdropping than his girlfriend. "Where is it?" Marinette pulled out of the dance and took Adrien's hand in hers while she went over to grab the cake from a smaller cool box next to the cooler that contained the beers.

Marinette placed it on the table and lit the candles. She was surprised by the fact that Adrien was still in contact with her as he held her hand. He tried to keep his grip loose enough that she could still move comfortably, but something in him didn't want to let go of her at that moment.

She was making sure to keep up their coupley ruse because she knew that the two they needed to keep the secret from were actually the two people under the hero masks in front of them. He didn't have that excuse, though. He didn't have a reason to want to be in contact with her like she did.

Marinette was thankful that she was prone to overpreparing as she pulled out the set of four plates and forks that she had packed for the guys that evening instead of the two that they would've needed. Marinette sang Happy Birthday to Adrien and was pleasantly surprised when Rena Rouge and Carapace joined her.

Adrien blew out the candles on his cake and if you asked him what he'd wished for, he probably wouldn't have been able to tell you because he was distracted by the love that he had been feeling all night. Once Marinette served the cake to all four of them, Carapace sat in one of the seats and Rena Rouge sat across his lap.

Adrien sat down in the other chair on the rooftop and Marinette looked around, trying to not look as skeptical as she felt. He made a brief motion with his eyes that roughly translated to 'It's a normal couple thing for you to sit in my lap, I'm okay if you are.' Marinette kept from biting her lip and sat down as softly as she could on Adrien's lap.

The four of them spent the next while talking and joking around with each other. Adrien was pleasantly surprised to learn that he got along just as well with Carapace and Rena Rouge outside of his mask as he did in it. He also found himself comforted by the gentle pressure of Marinette sitting on his lap, almost like a weighted blanket.

They stayed out together until almost midnight when the heroes started to get tired and knew they needed to take their friends back home before they could go to sleep. Once everything was packed up, Adrien wrapped his arms around Marinette once again. "Thank you, princess," he said to her quietly, "this is the best birthday I've ever had."

"I'm glad you had fun, buttercup," she said in response. She shifted in his arms to face him instead of away. "It was fun to plan for you. I love you."

"I love you, too," he said quietly. They planned to exchange les bisous just like they did at the end of every 'date,' but Marinette moved to the right first just as Adrien moved to the left first and they accidentally met in a light, surprisingly passion fruit scented kiss. They had been supposedly dating for weeks, there was no way they could show that they were surprised by kissing each other.

"I'll see you tomorrow," she said carefully. He nodded. He moved over toward Carapace and helped carry what he could. Carapace took Adrien home while Rena Rouge took Marinette. Adrien knew he wasn't ready to see Marinette the next day, he wasn't sure he'd be ready to see her any time soon.
