Marinette got a call from Adrien at 18h00 that evening when she was trying to figure out what to wear for dinner that night. She answered the call with a smile on her face. "What's up, buttercup?" She was a little nervous he was just calling to cancel their dinner, but she tried to keep a happy tone in her voice.

"I came up with a plan for dinner tonight, but you should dress warmly," he said nervously. Marinette tilted her head curiously.

"Nice, fancy warm, or cozy warm?" None of the clothing that Marinette had grabbed from her closet was particularly warm, so she immediately went over to her closet again to start searching for warmer clothing. It took him a short while to answer.

"Cozy warm, definitely." He looked at the area around him, making sure that everything was perfect for their evening. "We're mostly going to be staying in, so don't worry about dressing up for the paparazzi."

"Do you want me to just meet you at your place?" Marinette suggested. "That might be easier than you coming by mine just for both of us to go back to yours."

Adrien didn't like the idea of Marinette walking around Paris in the dark, but he didn't know how to bring up his nervousness without coming across as a worry wart. "Are you sure about coming over in the dark?"

"I can leave in a few minutes and be there before the sun goes down," she assured with a smile on her face, "if you're ready for me to come by that soon, that is. I can also just wait and call you while I'm walking there if you don't think I should come by early."

"Yeah," he agreed, "come over whenever you're ready. I still need to finish some stuff up, but I'm fine with you being there while I'm working on things if that's okay with you."

"Sounds good," Marinette said, smiling almost audibly to Adrien over the phone. He could hear the jostling of clothing on Marinette's side of the phone line. "I'll be there soon. I love you."

"I love you," he responded, heart filling with joy again, "I'll see you soon, princess." Marinette hung up the phone and smiled. She placed her phone onto her nightstand and put on a tank top and a pair of deep green joggers. She put on a hoodie and said bye to Alya and Nino. Alya asked if Marinette was going to spend the night at Adrien's.

Marinette promised Alya that she would let her know if she was going to be out that night or not as soon as she knew. The walk to Adrien's apartment was fast, especially when Marinette used her Ladybug identity to move across the city faster than Marinette could by herself. She ducked into an alley by Adrien's apartment and detransformed.

She knocked on his front door when she arrived and Adrien answered almost no time after that. When Adrien looked at her, he felt his heart soar at the sight of Marinette in his Chat Noir colors again. The front of Marinette's hoodie had the words 'Meow-velous' surrounding a cat face and she looked just as beautiful as ever in his eyes.

"Hey, thanks for coming by," he said, opening the door wide enough for her to come inside. "Dinner will be here in just a few minutes, then I'll take you to the surprise."

"A surprise?" Marinette asked, quirking her eyebrow. She started looking around the apartment for what surprise he would possibly have planned for their dinner. Adrien rolled his eyes at Marinette going to take a look around, but the delivery person knocked on the door a few minutes later with their food.

Adrien made sure that he had his phone and keys in his pockets. "Ready for the surprise?"

"Okay," Marinette agreed, "but if my surprise is a date with Rena Rouge, it isn't going to be as funny as you think it is."

"I guess I'll cancel your Christmas gift, then," he sighed with a resigned lilt to his voice. "It isn't," he assured. He reached his hand out for her to take and she did. "Close your eyes when I tell you to?" She nodded in agreement and he led her out of his apartment.

Where they would usually turn left to leave his building, they turned right and that led them to a staircase. They went up a few floors before Adrien told Marinette to close her eyes. A few seconds after she did, she felt a cold wind brush over her and she let out a small, involuntary shiver. She felt the once brush of wind become less concentrated as she walked out the door of the staircase.

"You can open your eyes," Adrien said from her side. He had stepped away from her a little so that she could see the full surprise. When she opened her eyes, she saw a rooftop. It wasn't the same one that they had used for his birthday, obviously. There were blankets and pillows on the ground and there was a space heater plugged into an outlet to the side.

"There's supposed to be a meteor shower tonight," Adrien said, rubbing the back of his neck with the hand that wasn't holding their dinner. "You mentioned you've always wanted to see a shooting star, so I thought that this could be fun. We can eat up here, then when the meteor shower starts, we can turn off the lights."

Marinette hadn't even registered that there were lights, but she now noticed that he had repurposed the fairy lights that she had used on his birthday. "This is beautiful, Adrien," she told him, voice filled with awe. "Thank you." She silently wondered why Adrien set this up for her when no one except for the two of them were going to see it, but she tried to ignore that line of questioning.

He led her over to one of the pillows she could sit on and gave her the bag of food. She started distributing their usual orders while Adrien turned on the little space heater. He kept it off while he was downstairs and couldn't supervise it, but now that they were there, he felt bad for making them both cold.

She handed him his container of food and he sat down next to her, making sure he didn't sit between her and the little heater. "Oh," Marinette said suddenly, "do you mind if I spend the night? I told Alya I'd let her know as soon as possible." Adrien agreed, so Marinette sent Alya a quick text.

After the two of them finished eating and put their trash back into the bag the food came in, Adrien went over and turned off the fairy lights for the rest of the night. They kept the heater on, but they were immersed in almost darkness aside from the small red dot on the heater that reminded them it was on.

Once the lights were out, Marinette and Adrien both laid down on the blanket with their heads resting on the pillows. The placement felt reminiscent of the day they went on the picnic in the park by the bakery. Marinette's hand unconsciously found Adrien's as they looked at the stars in the sky.

Adrien pointed closer to the horizon in the direction they were facing. "That constellation is Leo," he told her with a smile on his face. "That's where the shooting stars are going to be. Start thinking of wishes, they're going to start any minute."

They started a few minutes after the comment. Marinette's wishes were mostly about her life as Ladybug, but there were a few wishes that involved wanting to figure out how to deal with her feelings for Adrien. The two of them stayed on the roof for a while that night, talking a little about everything, but both refusing to share their wishes with each other.
