He landed on l'Arc de Triomphe at 20h55 and waited for Ladybug to arrive. He was trying to be patient, but he was pacing when she landed. When she did, he greeted her with a hug that completely enveloped her in his affection. She was a little surprised, but she knew she probably shouldn't be. He was her Adrien and she knew her Adrien loves hugs.
She had been debating since the two of them officially got together if Ladybug and Chat Noir should start dating or not. The decision had been bouncing around her head for the past few weeks and him, holding her as tightly as he was that night, made her pretty much certain that she wanted to date him however he would allow.
"I love you," she sighed happily into his torso, surrounded by his love. He squeezed her a little bit tighter and wanted to tell her why he was needing her affection so desperately. He didn't think that telling her that he watched The Ultimate Enemy while they were in public was the best idea after her reaction yesterday, but he was happy that she seemed content being hugged without an explanation.
The two started their patrol at 21h00 and she let him lead that day. He took her around the city and she was surprised that their patrol stayed away from the Eiffel Tower for the most part. She knew from experience that Adrien was a romantic and now that he knew he had his girlfriend by his side, she thought he would want to go by what many people considered to be the most romantic spot in the city with her.
Marinette was having fun running over the roofs with her boyfriend regardless of it not being a romantic experience. Patrol had never been romantic before, so there was no reason she should have expected it to be different that time. They did patrol near the Eiffel Tower near the end of the night and Chat Noir led her to the top, near Gustave Eiffel's apartment.
She saw that on the top of the structure, there was a picnic set up. She felt her heart skip a beat when she recognized the picnic. Even in the dark of the now 22h30 sky, she could recognize the picnic blanket and basket that the two of them had used on their first impromptu date in the early days of their fake relationship.
"Surprise," he said quietly, a bright blush making its way across his face. "I thought we could recreate our first date, now that we're in a real relationship." She could feel the tears welling in her eyes as she walked over to the picnic. She sat down in the same spot that she did on their first date and he sat down as close to his same spot as he could.
"I'm in love with you," she told him, knowing how much they talked about the difference between love and being in love that day. He placed a hand on her cheek and smiled brightly at her, feeling like he was falling in love with her all over again.
"I'm in love with you, too, my lady," he assured her. He moved closer to her and gave her a long, slow kiss before he pulled away and took out a box from Tom and Sabine's. The first thing that he pulled out of the box was a pain aux amandes, which he had learned several times over now, was Ladybug and Marinette's favorite.
The two of them ate the pastries together happily, splitting each of them in half to share as they looked over their city. Adrien felt his heart pounding in his chest, knowing the next part of his plan and hoping beyond hope that Marinette would understand and go along with it. He took a deep breath to try to calm his nerves.
He reached across the picnic blanket to take her hand. "Bug, I could never have done any of this without you," he began. He took a ring out of the picnic basket and Marinette was shocked by how closely it resembled the class ring from the show they'd been watching for the last few days. He slid it onto her finger as he spoke. "And I don't care what's coming next I just hope that whatever it is, you're there to share it with me."
She wanted to cry. She wanted to react like herself, but Adrien had gone through the effort to create the moment of her childhood OTP. She couldn't just ruin the moment that he had managed to memorize in the hours since they'd finished the finale. A few of the tears that had welled began to fall down her cheek.
"I will be," she assured, quoting the show in response. "I just have to warn you, I'm no pushover you know. I still have my own way of doing things." He heard her voice crack as she tried not to cry at his gesture.
"That's what I'm counting on." He tried to match the loving tone of Danny's voice in the show. The two of them leaned in and shared a kiss. Adrien had been going back and forth on whether to offer Marinette a ride, like he knew the next line was, but she leaned over and hugged him, knocking him down onto the picnic blanket and he knew he didn't want to move her from that position.
She admired the ring on her finger and the boy in front of her and she sniffled, trying to stifle her crying as they held each other. She felt Chat Noir's claws gently scratching circles into her back as he held her and she was so happy. This picnic was more romantic than anything she had experienced in the past and she had never felt more loved than she had in that moment.
The two of them spent the rest of that evening on the tower together, talking and laughing in the cool air of the night. Now that they knew each other's secrets, they really were able to treat it like their first date all over again. They got to learn everything about each other. She learned that he loved being Chat Noir because his real life was more stressful.
He got to learn that she was scared that Ladybug would eventually let down the city. They ended up staying out into the middle of the night, learning everything about each other, big and small.
They learned that neither of them liked being an only child in their families and Ladybug told her partner that she'd always wanted to have three kids. Maybe that was too much to bring up on their first official date, but it felt right to both of them, so neither of them mentioned how strange it might sound to an outsider.
It was about 03h00 when Chat Noir yawned for the first time that night. He picked up his baton and Ladybug could see the shock on his face when he checked the time for the first time since patrol started.
They knew they needed to pack up the picnic before they headed home for the night. She needed to choose whether she wanted to go back to her apartment and risk Alya's interrogation or go to Adrien's and risk staying up even later talking to him.
Given how much of the picnic was borrowed from her parents, they chose to stop by her balcony as the first stop of the night to leave everything there. She could bring everything inside when she went home next time. "What do you say, wanna go for a ride?" he quoted from the show once again when everything was packed up. "See where the future takes us?"
"Why not?" He was planning to just carry her over the rooftops of the city and was surprised when she pulled a small purple macaron out of her yo-yo. He gave her a look asking if she was sure it was worth powering up, but she seemed confident. She picked up everything and he ate the macaron.
Once he became AstroChat, he picked her up in a bridal carry and flew her across the city toward the rooftop of the Dupain-Cheng bakery. "Cool statue," she said with a small smirk on her face. "Purrsonally I would have made it out of recycled materials but, you know, that's just me."
Somewhere in Paris, Gabriel Agreste had a sudden urge to say the sentence "Actually, being a free roaming space nomad isn't half bad. At least it's quiet and I-" before Nooroo cut him off.
