"How was I supposed to know that?" Hermione asked, watching as the Greengrass parents excused themselves from the room.

This had to be the most embarrassing meet the parents dinner she'd ever been to. Not only had she insulted Mrs. Greengrass unknowingly by asking if there were vegetarian options for dinner. But apparently, Daphne hadn't told her parents that Hermione wasn't a Pureblood witch. Hermione didn't know this fact until a few minutes ago when she told her girlfriend's parents what her mother and father did for a living.

"Didn't you see me shaking my head?" Daphne asked, seeing Astoria's sympathetic look in Hermione's direction.

"No," Hermione said, taking a sip from her wine goblet. "I didn't." She put the goblet down on the table. "I thought you had told your parents about us and they accepted our relationship. Didn't you tell your parents about us?"

"I did," Daphne said, looking at her plate. "But I wanted them to like you."

"What does that mean?"

"Daphne's never been good at handling arguments," Astoria said, putting a comforting hand on Daphne's shoulder. "Which is what would have come from her telling our parents of your Muggleborn heritage."

"But a lot of this embarrassment could have been avoided if your parents knew beforehand, couldn't it have been?" Hermione asked, looking between Astoria and Draco for assistance.

"Granger, the Greengrass family are from a long line of noble Purebloods," Draco said, looking to Astoria for help. "Generations of Greengrass have been marrying other Purebloods for centuries. There is a—"

"There is a long history of prejudice," Daphne finished for Draco. "I was afraid that I'd be disowned for bringing home a Muggleborn. I'm sorry. But I was."

"Daphne—"

Hermione was cut off by the reentrance of the Greengrass parents. They returned to their seats and turned towards Hermione who grew rather uncomfortable with their gaze upon her.

"Mummy, Daddy, I love—"

"Why didn't you tell us your girlfriend was a Muggleborn?" Selena Greengrass asked, looking at her daughter in concern. "If we'd have known we could have avoided most of the embarrassment that has befallen this evening."

"But….you're not angry with me?" Daphne asked, looking between her mother and father in shock. "You're not angry that Hermione's a Muggleborn?"

Alfred Greengrass shook his head with a sad smile. "No," he said, putting a hand on his wife's hand. "After all, your mother was a Muggleborn too. Why would I be mad at you for falling in love with a Muggleborn when I did so myself?"

"We only want you to be happy, Daphne," her mother said, smiling at her oldest daughter. "If Hermione is who makes you happy then we accept that."

"Really?" Daphne asked, looking relieved and like a huge weight had been lifted off her shoulders.

Both parents nodded.

"Shall we start over again and continue the evening like it should have been?" Hermione asked, feeling relieved as well.

"Of course," Mrs. Greengrass said, smiling. "I would like that very much, Hermione."

And so the evening continued with the conversation becoming much lighter. Mr. and Mrs. Greengrass asked all about Hermione and her upbringing and getting to know the girl their daughter loved.

I hope you all enjoyed Meeting the Greengrasses as much as I enjoyed writing it.
