Prison

Hunter groaned as his hips bucked up into Elsie, filling her just before he erupted. Elsie moaned loudly, shuddering and trembling above him, her hips rocking frantically. Finally, both began to settle, and she lay forward on top of him, taking a second to catch her breath before kissing him.

"I love you, Hunter," Elsie smiled, resting her head on his chin.

"I love you, too," Hunter smiled, kissing the top of her head.

They lay like that for a long while, enjoying holding each other, before someone knocked on the door.

"Hey you two," Ana called through the door. "We're almost at the prison."

Both sighed and pushed themselves up, reforming their armor and grabbed their weapons.

"This is going to give me a headache," Hunter said.

"If coming back here is too much, Ana and I can handle it ourselves," Elsie offered, one of Ana's dogs barking at her. "Sorry. The five of us can handle it."

"It's fine," Hunter said. "It shouldn't be a hard job."

Elsie nodded and they warped to a landing pad of the prison, Ana bringing her dogs, then jogged into the prison.

"Welcome to the fun, Hunter, Stranger, Ana," Drifter said. "I'll run tactical for the op."

"What's the situation?" Hunter asked as they entered a round service tunnel to get inside.

"That damn warden's Servitor's gone insane," Drifter said. "It's putting the whole prison through combat drills."

Hunter groaned. "This is going to be torture."

"I'm available if you need an extra hand," Drifter offered.

"We're fine," Hunter said, as they reached a cell block. "We've got six in here already."

"Suit yourselves," Drifter said.

As they dropped from the service tunnel to the floor of the cell block, a PA system crackled to life.

"Prison of Elders welcomes you?" Variks' voice intoned loudly. "Impress your Warden, yes?"

"Is that Variks?" Spark asked.

Drifter laughed as Hunter and the others began to slaughter Vex on the path to the cell block's security hub. "Hell no. Variks left his pet Servitor behind and the thing went nuts. thinks it is him. It's running the whole prison through some kind of combat drills. You'd better be ready for the biggest shootout to ever happen in prison."

Hunter narrowed his eyes, hurling a fan of knives and slaughtering the last few Goblins. "The biggest shootout to ever happen in prison ended in Uldren Sov's escape. This is nothing by comparison."

Drifter chuckled. "I was just making a point."

Hunter harrumphed as the door ahead of them opened and they passed through the hub and into the far side of the cell block. After a few minutes, they reached a transport station and Spark flew to the controls.

"Let's move this prisoner transport," Spark said. "The other cellblocks are up ahead. This one's an outlier, so if the Servitor wants to watch combat drills, he'll probably be with the rest of them."

Hunter nodded as the transport sped away, opening up the tunnel for them to run down. After a few seconds, however, the light of another transport rounded the bend up ahead.

"Move!" Hunter shouted.

They all leapt onto the maintenance catwalks along the edges of the tunnel, Hunter and Elsie on one side and Ana and her pets on the other. Just as the transport shot past, several Vex Goblins appeared further along Hunter and Elsie's catwalk, both opening fire quickly with their Pulse Rifles, slaughtering them as Ana and her dogs slaughtered a group on the other side. Once a second transport sped past, they all jumped down from their catwalks and sprinted forward, making it to a small broken section of the grate flooring and dropping into it with only seconds to spare before another transport raced past over them. Hunter narrowed his eyes, turning and following the maintenance tunnel they were in. He hated this prison. They stopped at the edge of another opening down into a second tunnel as a transport raced past below. Several Goblins stepped into view, and Hunter and Elsie dropped a pair quickly, the SIVA drones Hunter's rifle spawned swarming the others and destroying them. Another transport raced past before they dropped down, landing at a sprint. There were Pikes off to their right, where the Goblins had been, but they all ignored them, sprinting along the tracks. The tunnel was two wide this time, and the transports were coming one at a time, usually alternating sides but sometimes repeating a side. They alternated sides of the tunnel in accordance, and continued to run until they dropped into a lower section and found a tunnel to another tunnel. As they arrived, they found Vex and Cabal battling both in the tunnel and the next tunnel, including a Hydra, and they quickly opened fire, Elsie, Ana, and her dogs rapidly slaughtering the less deadly enemies while Hunter opened fire on the Hydra, targeting its eye and causing SIVA drones to form inside of it before either burrowing out of it and back in or simply exploding inside, killing it quickly. Then, they began to run again.

Across from the tunnel they were leaving was a transport station where prisoners could be switched between transports. There were more Vex on the transport, but they dealt with them easily, crossing the tracks as soon as it was safe and heading up the short stairs of the station to see what was ahead. Ahead of them, the two tunnels were separated by a section of wall, but they were too long to run down without being run over.

"Up here," Elsie said, leaping up to the top of one of the transport top rails.

Hunter and Ana followed her, and they all ran along it, Ana's dogs bringing up the rear. They passed a break in the wall where a pair of Goblins were standing, but Hunter hurled a pair of daggers, killing them both without anyone breaking their stride. At the next station they reached, there were more battling Vex and Cabal, but they cleaned them up even as they dropped to the ground. They ran up the ramp to the station platform and dropped off on the other side, running for the door ahead of them. They took a spiraled ramp up to an access tunnel at the top.

"I was expecting more combatants," Ana said.

"Just wait," Hunter said. "The next station we reach is the start of the real thing. It's the station that leads to the center of the prison, equal distance from every cell block except the intake block we passed through earlier."

Ana nodded, and they passed through a door into the station, a pair of Goblins standing between them and the transport rail, only for them to slaughter them. As the transport shot past, the rest of the dozens of Vex in the room turned toward them, only for Hunter and Elsie to both cross the track and open fire, Elsie using her cloaking tech this time while Hunter swapped his Pulse Rifle for his two Hand Cannons. Between the two of them holding the Vex's attention up close, and Ana and her dogs firing into the chaos from the far side of the track, they made very short work of the Vex. However, just as they dropped the last one, an enhanced Minotaur teleported into the room, the big silver kind with the ring attached to their shoulders. As soon as it arrived, however, Hunter formed an Arc Spear and hurled it, the spear drilling into the Minotaur's core and exploded, destroying it instantly.

"Nice!" Ana cheered.

They headed through the tunnel at the far wall and into a gravity lift heading up toward the central hub of the prison. They landed at the top and headed through the next door into a long hallway filled with Cabal. They all opened fire instantly, all of them breaking into a sprint. A Cabal Incendior fired a stream of flames at Hunter, and he dropped into a slide, peppering it with bullets from the Joker and killing it before sliding to his feet and reloading as he unloaded the Ace of Spades into several Legionaries. As he reloaded the Ace of Spades, he holstered the Joker, then holstered the Ace of Spades as well, grabbing his Pulse Rifle and opening fire rapidly. Elsie appeared ahead of him, driving a knife into a Legionary's head, then vanished again ahead of several shots. Hunter leapt over a Gladiator, driving a knife into its head on the way back as he fired a burst into a Legionary one-handed. As he landed, he returned to firing forward, Elsie appearing at his side as Ana stepped up on his other side, firing almost as fast as their Pulse Rifles were, but not a single shot missing, and often only one shot per target. Ana's dogs never stopped moving, firing their weapons constantly, but moving fast enough to not be hit. Several War Beasts charged at them, only for the dogs to target them and slaughter them in seconds. Several Psions stepped into view above to take shots at them, only for Ana to drop them all. At the far end of the hallway, they reached a gravity lift and it raised them up to a huge courtyard. Elsie and Ana both reloaded instantly, and as they landed in the courtyard, they all looked around carefully. Ahead of them, near the front of the courtyard, Cabal and Vex were battling. However as they quickly headed to join the chaos, the Servitor spoke up.

"Round one," the Servitor said. "Kill them dead, Guardian."

Hunter's gut dropped. Round one meant multiple rounds. He and the others opened fire, both groups turning on them instead, forcing them to use the cover scattered around the courtyard, everyone spreading outward. The dogs sprinted around the courtyard, their guns swiveling to target whichever Vex or Cabal they chose without any of them having to stop moving. Hunter smiled. They were some of his best work.

He focused on slaughtering the Cabal and Vex, and finally, they were down to just a Cabal Colossus and an enhanced Minotaur. As they got down to just those, Ana formed a Golden gun, quickly killing the pair of them.

"They are dead," the Servitor said. "You are not."

Just then, a hatch opened in a platform in the center of the courtyard, a Scorch Cannon rising from it. Ana grabbed it, and they all looked around as the Servitor began the next round.

"Round two. Disable mines, yes? Or you die."

They all looked around as several splinter mines appeared, three of them. Hunter swore. They needed a Ghost to disable them, but Elsie didn't have one.

"Any chance the thing you keep with you can disable one of them?" Hunter asked, even as he sent Spark to disable one mine, Ana sprinting for another.

"I'll handle it," Elsie nodded, sprinting for the mine.

Just as she did, enemies flooded into the courtyard, mostly Cabal but also scattered Vex. All three opened fire instantly, none of them leaving their Ghost, or whatever Elsie had with her, alone. It was chaos almost instantly, Hunter swapping his rifle for the Ace of Spades and knives, and they all fought relentlessly. More and more enemies flooded in, but finally, Spark announced he was finished. As soon as he'd vanished, Hunter jumped, spinning, and hurled multiple fans of flaming, Solar-Charged Proximity Mine Knives around the courtyard, clearing dozens of enemies and giving the others enough time to finish with their mines before being free to move around. The effect was instant, and within seconds they'd finished the last of the enemies.

"Victory well-earned," the Servitor said, as a huge dome sealed over a sealed door in the floor near the front of the courtyard.

As it did, more Cabal flooded into the courtyard, Hunter and the others all opening fire instantly.

"You face the final round," the Servitor announced. "A mighty Cabal warrior challenges you."

The dome split open and sank back into the ground, leaving a huge Cabal Colossus, who opened fire instantly. Everyone scattered, slaughtering anything they could until only the Colossus remained, then began to target it exclusively. Within seconds, it crashed to the ground. A door off to the side opened, and they all spun, aiming into the door, but when nothing left the door, they all headed through it, keeping themselves ready, Hunter swapping back to his Pulse Rifle.

"Stand proud," the Servitor said. "You survived the Prison of Elders."

"Not yet," Hunter growled under his breath. "We're not here for your games. We're here for you."

"Retreat to airlock," the Servitor said.

"Is he talking to us?" Ana asked.

"He's telling us to get out," Hunter said. "He knows what we're really here for."

The door ahead of them opened, revealing a round room with a hole in the floor.

"Treasure awaits below," the Servitor said. "It calls to you, yes?"

They all dropped down the hole to a platform, then down from one to the next. Finally, they reached a long room with a glowing, gold chest on the far side. They all walked over to it and Hunter, narrowed his eyes as Spark scanned it.

"What is it?" Elsie asked.

"It's empty," Spark reported. "It's rigged with the same tech as what the Trickster, Araskes, used."

"A bomb?" Hunter asked.

"No," Spark said. "A cage."

"Step back," Hunter said, Elsie and Ana both complying, along with Ana's dogs.

Hunter opened the chest, and for a moment, it seemed to be filled with glimmer. Then, the Glimmer flashed and vanished, and a barrier dome appeared around Hunter. The chest was warped away, and Hunter sighed before the floor vanished out from under him, dropping him into a downward gravity lift. After a moment, the barrier vanished, and Ana and Elsie dropped in with Ana's dogs.

"Good call spotting the Trickster's surprise," Drifter said. "You learned well from meeting her."

"I don't trust anyone that sounds like Variks," Hunter said.

Finally, he landed at the bottom of the shaft he was in, seeing a platform ahead of them, the bridge to it broken and missing, and Vex and Cabal battling on it. Hunter opened fire from where he was, waiting for Ana and Elsie to reach him before they all leapt to the platform, rapidly working their way through the other combatants.

"An old friend is here," the Servitor said, descending from the far side of the room. "Judgement at hand."

All of them opened fire on him instantly, scattering to keep him from targeting them all at once. After a second, however, the Servitor began to shine, heat waves rolling off of him in waves. All three instinctively ducked behind one of the support pillars around the room, the dogs hiding behind a metal wall just before the Servitor shone blindingly, waves of Solar Energy rolling around the room anywhere the light reached, anything it shone on heating rapidly, the wall the dogs were behind glowing red by the time the light faded.

All of them stepped out, unloading on the Servitor rapidly. It was huge and slow, so it couldn't avoid their bullets, but its plating was thicker than any other Servitor Hunter had found, and even its core was highly bullet-resistant, so it wasn't going to be a short fight. Even Hunter's Pulse Rifle's SIVA drones couldn't break through its armor and were just exploding on its shell. After a few minutes, it fired its huge, Solar attack again, all of them once again taking cover. As the attack ended, Hunter stepped out, forming a Golden Gun and opening fire. Six shots slammed into the Servitor rapidly, but without decent aim. Each one punched a fist-sized hole in its plating. Suddenly, the fight had changed. They all had spots to target, and all did so immediately. Within seconds, they noticed a difference, as smoke began to curl out of the Servitor.

"Vex Reinforcements advance," the Servitor said, just as Vex began to telwport into the area around them, the dogs and Ana turning their attention to them, including an enhanced Minotaur. "Cabal reinforcements unleashed. Cabal strategist Val Aru'um. Time stalker of the Vex, the Overmind Minotaur."

Cabal began to drop in, and Elsie turned, cloaking herself and tearing into the Cabal. Hunter kept his focus on the Servitor, unless something was in front of him, in which case he quickly dropped it before retuening to the Servitor. After a minute, it fired its Solar attack again and they all took cover, everyone shooting any Vex or Cabal they could see or that tried to take cover with them. One Cabal that Hunter shot sutvived the shot, but staggered into the light and within seconds had burned away to ash. Then, as the light faded, they all stepped out again. Only the Overmind Minotaur, Servitor, and Val Aru'um, who was a Colossus. However, within seconds, Elsie had frozen and shattered Val Aru'um, and Ana and her dogs finished off the Minotaur. As soon as they had, they all returned to firing at the Servitor. Within a few more seconds, it finally exploded.

"Nice work out there, Hunter," Drifter said. "And, of course, Ana and the Exo Stranger, too. You guys really make a great team."

"Of course we do," Ana said. "We're family."

Hunter smiked as they walked over to the Servitor's remaina just as Drifter telwported a chest full of glimmer and weapons to them.

"This should be a fitting reward," Drifter said. "Now I can clean up behind you and Spider'll sell this place back to the Awoken."

"No, he won't," Hunter said, just as Spark appeared, projecting a hologram of Petra. "It's clear, except for the clean up."

"We can handle that," Petra nodded. "Thank you, Hunter."

Hunter smiled and nodded.

"You crossed Spider?" Drifter asked.

"No," Hunter said. "Our trip here was part of Spider's payment for us doing a job for him. Getting to keep him from cheating the Awoken is just a bonus."

"You're playing a dangerous game," Drifter said.

"If Spider tries anything, I'll crush him," Hunter said simply.

"We're landing now, Hunter," Petra said. "You can go. I know you have one other bit of unfinished business to deal with."

Hunter nodded, and he, Elsie, and Ana warped back to their ship before flying to the coordinates that Spider said the Fanatic might be coming back to life.

Hunter swung hard, smashing the Fanatic's staff against the ground, then spat on the shattered stone. The prison had been annoying, but dealing with the Fanatic a second time was what gave him a headache.

"Are you alright?" Elsie asked.

"Fine," Hunter sighed. "Let's go see Spider. We promised to help stop that High Celebrant and its Wrathborn."

Elsie nodded and they headed back toward their ship. An hour later, they had dropped Ana and her dogs off at the tower and arrived at Spider's hideout and walked inside. Spider glared at them instantly.

"Dealing with you has proven to be rather costly," Spider said. "But our business is nearly concluded. My little Crow has been tinkering with a lure to attract Wrathborn. He should be almost ready to find the High Celebrant."

"Not yet," Crow said. "I still need two Hive Wrathborn. Then we'll be ready."

"Then let's go," Hunter said. "The sooner we deal with this, the better."

Crow nodded, and the three of them left, using Hunter and Elsie's ship to fly them all to the Dreaming City.
