I walk down the dark sidewalk passing by people as I walked fastly, it was about 12 in the morning so their weren't much people out but a couple of cars passing by here and there. I was on my way to see a girl, by the name of Alex. And she knew things about my familys past and most importantly my dad who went missing after working with her father. It did feel a little sketchy metting her in an alleyway but I had to see her, I had to know what she knew about my father and I needed everything to be explained to me more clearly since it's been eating at me for years since the day he went missing. Back then I was way to young to understand anything. I was just twelve at the time. So, it made it even worse when you were the talk of seventh grade. If I could just go back in time and comfort my younger self and tell him that everything would be okay and, that dad would be coming back I most definitely would, no child should feel how I felt. I soon, get out my thoughs when I see the bar that the alleyway was right next to, the closer I got the more afraid I was to even go in and face her.
It felt like my feet carried themselves to the alleyway because if my brain were my feet I would be all the way back in my room ready to go back to sleep, not wanting to face the most scariest thing. Finding out the whole truth about my father and Alexs friendship.
Finally passing the bar my body stops right in front of the alleyway, it was dark and foggy due to the cold and harsh weather, fall was one hell of a season.
At first I didn't see anyone in the dark passageway, but was soon proven wrong when I see a female body figure leaning against a big trash can smoking a cigarette, and a beer in hand. I make my way down the dark passage wanting to get to the one I needed to see. As I got closer I could actually make out her appearance, she was wearing a blue and grey flannel with a furry dark blue jean jacket that fit her perfectly, she also was wearing regular lose fitting pants and some dirty converse to add to the mysterious look. She really was something, but I couldn't get a good look at her face because she was facing the other way.
She didn't react to my presence once I finally stopped a few inches away from her, it was like she was in her own world, like she was at peace with her cigarette and beer in hand. After a couple of seconds which felt like minutes she turned torward my direction. I got a good look at her face, she had the cigarette between her lips and the beer in her right hand. Her eyes were a darkish blue with a hint of baby blue in the middle, but I couldn't tell formally because of the dark sky, her lips were pink with dark pink in the middle probably due to the colder seasonal changes. She had black eyeshadow on which complimented her dark blue eyes, she also had lots of freckles with made her even more beautiful.
I didn't know I was staring so hard untill she spoke up."You got a damn staring problem boy.", I was so embarrassed that I got caught staring at her for so long I started stuttering which made it worse."U-um sorry I d-didn't mean to stare so much I'm just a little nervous that's all.", I scratch the back of my head sheepishly rocking on the soles of my shoes. Was I really staring that hard, that's so fucking embarrassing considering the fact that I just met her, and she probably already thinks I'm a fucking creep.
She raised an eyebrow at me, "So your the kid I'm supposed to tell about my dad and Mr. Miles disappearance, and you're already undressing me with your eyes". She took the cigarette out of her mouth sighing and threw it to the ground stepping on it with a twist. I nervously shook my head, did she really think I was a creep just because I was looking at her, does this girl know that admiring and undressing someone isn't the same thing."I wasn't undressing you with my eyes I was just starring because you're really pretty!!". I realize what I say and blush forms on my cheeks making me rub my left arm with my right.
She smirks at this and walked closer, closing the already small space in between us. I step back a little because she was getting really close and I didn't want her to accuse me of touching her when I'm really just trying to come here for what I needed to know."So you were undressing me and you have a crush on me, wow so much on a first meeting". She chuckles, her voice low and kinda husky. She must smoke a lot then.
I was getting tired of her messing around with me. I just wanting to go back home and have a good friday night ready to wake up to a Saturday. As she gets closer, I stand my ground in front of her, I was taller than her so I towered over her pretty easily. This time the roles were reversed, it was my time to ask her the questions."Look, I'm not here to play games, I heard from my father's letter he stored for me to find". I pull the small note from my back pocket, she looked at me confused for a minute but goes back to normal when she sees the white piece of paper in my hand. I had recently found this while going through some old things my dad left behind. I'm pretty sure he saw his disappearance coming so he left a note for me to contact Alex. She looks at me raising her left eyebrow. "Yeah, I know". This time, I was the confused one, if she knew about the letter why did she have a small look of confusion.
"What do you mean you know? Have you even seen my father before, let alone meet him?". If she wasn't gonna help me with my father's disappearance, then she was just wasting my time. She takes a sip of her beer and lets out a sigh, the cold weather turned it to white fog. "It might seem like I'm wasting your time, but I'm just as lost as you". She walked to the other side of the alleyway leaning against the wall turning to the back opening, which was dark from not having a good source of light, besides the little flickering light from the bars exit back door. "The only thing I really do know about me and your dads disaprearment is that my dad died on that mission". My eyes widen, I didn't know this. "What do you mean he died, I thought my dad saved him". My eyebrows frown, was that really the truth about her father? Did my father fail to save her dad. She let out a little chuckle before finally looking back at me.
"Is that really what you thought". She paused for a moment to take the last sip of her beer, "My father had to save your dad from those people. I know it might not sound believable to you because of what you heard from others but I'm telling the truth, your dad was held captive by the M.A.P.R". I frowned my eyebrows once again an the unfamiliar name. "Telling by your confused expression, you don't know who the M.A.P.R agency is do you?" I nodded my head, wanting to hear what she was going to say. "The M.A.P.R people are the people from my planet who have a secret hatred for my kind, they're from another planet called balis, but invaded our planet to kill my kind and take our powers we were gifted, after their planet declared war we lost offly bad, all my brothers and sisters who were the same like me, died and got their powers taken away. Since my family was the face of our planet we had to leave, we fled to Earth seeking to have a new life, but they found us and took my father. He managed to escape their grasp and found your father, a old friend of his when visiting earth a long time ago".
I was stunned by this information. Was this actually the whole story? Did my dad really get captured by M.A.P.R? This couldn't be right, I was told by my father that he saved her dad, was this really happening? Was I finding out the actual truth of my father's disappearance? My thoughts were cut off when she got up from her place on the cold brick wall, "We need to go, I'll tell you more about him once we get to my house, it's not that far from here, and we can stop standing out in this alley".
Before I could even disagree she starts heading out the alley, throwing the beer can in the garbage as she walked. Not saying anything, I start walking torwards the exit, we didn't speak a word as we exited the dark passage.
By now, there were no people walking outside and little to no car's, so it was almost dead silent. We started walking on a familiar road out of the city. Did she not drive?
Time skip
It was silent for a few minutes until she finally spoke, breaking the awkward silence. "We're here". I look up at the old blueish white house. There was a car parked in the garage, so she did drive, Or did her mom drive? I didn't even notice we we're there until she said something, was I really that distracted? That I didn't even notice we were in front of the doorstep of the girl who knew more about my dad than me. She looks at me, gesturing me to go inside the house. I walked inside the house, looking around, It was surprisingly clean besides the laundry by the bedroom door with was open.
She shuts the door behind her before she speaks, "You can have a seat at the dinning room table". She said this like it wasn't an offer but an order. I do as I was told and sat down in the brown wooden chair. I fiddle with my fingers as she walks into the bedroom to I assume get something. it was a while till she came back into the dining room. I saw something in her hand, It looked like a letter. When she sits down in the chair across from me my assumptions were correct, it was a letter, but who was it from?
She stares at it for a moment before saying, "This letter...It's from my dad". She slides it across the wooden table untill it was right in front of me."I want you to take good care of this letter Max, if anyone got their hands on this letter, they'll know everything about how my dad saved yours, if you don't want that to happen, then don't let anyone have this letter.", I look at the letter before looking back at her in the eyes."Promise me that, okay." She lifts an eyebrow, making sure I understood.
As I took the letter and stuffed it into my back pocket a door to a room open. I shot my eyes to the door that was being slowly opened, Alex didn't even look, but stood to her feet as well walking to the front door. A small girl appeared, hiding behind the big bedroom door that hide her perfectly, was this Alex's sister?
She didn't look to young, probably twelve or fourteen, she resembled Alex a lot so I was probably right on the sister thing, she looks at me in the eyes before looking at Alex.
"Alex, who is this.", Alex turns her head to the girl. "Just a visitor, go back to sleep but if you're hungry there's food in the fridge to eat.". I walk away from the dining table turning my focus to Alex who's by the door. Before I could walk out Alex grabs me by the wrist, she jerked in her place from the hard impact of my stop. "Promise me, you won't let anyone get to this letter, it'll make both our familys look bad." Her eyes were serious and dark, maybe from the pitch black sky but I was sure she was serious.
"Promise".
