This is a super old fic I've finally gotten around to finishing! It's set a year before Adversity and contains a lot of fluff! Will be a twoshot.
Just as a quick note: Silence will be on hold for a little while as the document I'd written bits of the story on decided to delete itself, so now I have to remember and rewrite everything which is super annoying.
Hey-ho. Enjoy the floof! c:
"Gordon, what's that?" Virgil asked as he crossed the threshold of his brother's bedroom, curiously looking up at the large bulky structure forcibly propped up against the wardrobe.
"Fisher King Paradise." Gordon replied casually, shoving some more blankets through the hole in the side.
"Fisher… what?"
"Fisher King Paradise! Named after me."
"I still think that's lame." came a smaller voice from inside the structure.
"Shut up and get padding the floor!" Gordon retorted, passing two pillows to his younger brother. "It's a blanket fort. Do you like it?"
Virgil blinked. "It's very… big. Did you steal Scott's covers?"
"Yep."
"Cool."
Virgil watched as Gordon made the finishing touches to his fort. Once complete, the seven-year-old stood back with his hands on his hips, proudly admiring his work.
"Looks neato." Virgil smiled. "Can I go in it?"
"Sure!" Gordon grinned. He crouched down and pushed through the two blankets making up the entrance of the makeshift tent, holding them open for his older brother to catch them. Virgil followed him cautiously, hoping that the structure wasn't going to collapse on top of them.
Once he passed through the 'doorway', Virgil found himself admiring the inside of his brother's creation. He had to admit the structure of the fort was very impressive. It had been carefully constructed out of the Alan's space themed duvet, as well as three large blankets, which were all pinned to each other by what appeared to be some of Grandma's hair clips. The bottom of the fort was made out of Gordon's tropical fish themed duvet and Alan was sitting in the middle of the fort, surrounded by plush fish, plush stars and plush rockets.
Virgil nodded impressively, giving their work a whistle. "I like the coordination you've got going on there." he said, pointing at the 'ceiling' and then the floor. "This is awesome."
"Why thank you." Gordon bowed, crawling over to Alan. "Took us two hours."
"It's very impressive. Why did you decide to build it?"
"To hide from the storm!" Alan shrieked as a light rumble of thunder echoed in the distance.
Virgil recalled John telling him about the weather forecast. Inclement weather was scheduled for the afternoon, made up of a massive storm heading over Kansas.
"I know Alan doesn't like storms so I thought it would be cool to hide away in here until it passes." Gordon explained, giving Alan a reassuring pat on the head.
"He even let me bring the Xbox in here!" Alan beamed. "And Mr Star!" Alan held up his favourite plush star he'd had since he was a baby.
"Am I a genius or what?" Gordon smirked. "Comfortable and practical."
Virgil rolled his eyes, "You're a genius. Can I hang in here with you guys?"
"Sure!" Gordon nodded, happy that Virgil actually wanted to spend time with them for once.
"Cool beans, I'm gonna go get my sketchpad and my art stuff."
"Cool beans?"
"Cool beans." Virgil reversed out of the tent. He returned a few minutes later, pillow in one hand, his sketchpad, a torch and pencil case in the other.
"Did you shut the door?" Gordon asked as Virgil shuffled back inside their hidden cove.
"Yep."
"Sweet."
Virgil frowned, something just occurring to him. "Wait a minute, how are you supposed to play your Xbox with no T.V in here?"
His brothers went silent for a moment. Gordon then facepalmed.
"I knew there was something I forgot!" he groaned, making his way over to the exit. "I'm gonna get the wireless one out of John's room."
"I'm pretty sure John's sleeping, so are you sure that's a good idea?" Virgil asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Uhh… why is he sleeping? It's the middle of the day."
Virgil shrugged, "He likes naps. Pretty sure he was stargazing again last night too."
"Okay. I'll try not to disturb him." Gordon grinned, backing out of the fort.
"He's so going to disturb him." Virgil muttered, turning to his sketchbook.
It was quiet.
Too quiet.
Scott frowned as he observed the empty lounge. The teenager had spent the last few hours in the garden working on a project for school. Their father was out on a business meeting that he'd been called to last minute, so the boys were experiencing a lazy weekend in the house, not really doing anything, and Scott had taken this time to get a lot of his homework done.
After finishing his lunch, it occurred to Scott that the house was VERY quiet. That set off warning signals in the teenager's mind from the start, as Gordon and quiet didn't usually fit within the same sentence. His little rascal of a brother was probably the loudest in the Tracy household, and could usually be heard irritating the rest of his brothers, begging to go swimming, or arguing with Alan.
When he was quiet though… that meant trouble.
Gordon was a natural prankster so Scott figured he was up to something, which meant he had to play detective.
He searched downstairs first, finding each room empty. He then made his way up the stairs to see if they were hiding from him in one of their bedrooms.
"Alright you scoundrels, where are you?" Scott whispered to himself, crossing the landing quietly. His next target was Gordon's bedroom, which was where Gordon was bound to be, having probably dragged Alan into one of his devious schemes for the fun of it.
What he didn't expect, however, was the eerie silence that greeted him as he pushed open the door. The usual sounds of laughter when they were plotting were not apparent and that confused Scott greatly. He knew that whenever the Terrible Twosome were together, they couldn't help being loud.
Feeling his big brother instincts kick in, Scott entered the room and was surprised to see what appeared to be a wad of blankets stuffed against Gordon's wardrobe, including his own bed covers. He frowned and raised an eyebrow.
Scott jumped when he felt a hand connect with his shoulder, swivelling around to see a sleepy John rubbing his eyes behind him.
"Yo." John greeted with a yawn. "Why are you sneaking around like 007?"
Scott just pointed at the fort, piquing John's attention. The blonde raised his head and quietly stepped over to it, patting the top to see if it stirred anyone inside it.
A muffled giggle could he heard, causing John to smirk. He looked back towards Scott, who also had a big grin on his face.
John silently mouthed "Alan" to his older brother, who nodded in agreement.
Scott reached John and knelt down level with the gap in the fort's side. He slowly stuck his head in, and was greeted with a-
"BOO!" three voices cried in unison, startling Scott more than he would have liked to admit.
"Got you!" Alan giggled, rolling on the blanket in hysterics.
"Oh ha-ha." Scott rolled his eyes. "Johnny, they're in here."
"Oh so I heard!"
"Come inside!" Gordon said. "Even YOUR big butt can fit in here."
"Oi, you." Scott smirked, crawling over to Gordon and catching him in a headlock. John poked his head through the doorway.
"Say, this is massive! It really does look bigger on the inside."
"Nerd!" Gordon chimed, catching John's retro reference. He starting giggling as Scott captured him and attacked him with tickles.
John laughed and pushed his way inside the fort, sitting the opposite side to his brothers. "What are you guys doing in here anyway?"
"Hiding from the storm." Virgil replied, not looking up from his sketchpad as he doodled. "How was your nap?"
"Great!" John answered. "Helped to give me a boost of energy for tonight."
"You're staying up again?" Scott rebuked, pausing his tickling as Gordon wiggled in his older brothers' strong arms.
"Why don't you just sleep all day and stargaze all night?" Gordon asked.
"Because I'll never get to spend any time with your annoying butt." John chortled.
"My butt's not annoying." Gordon replied cheekily, a big smile on his face. He pulled himself free from Scott and peered over Virgil's shoulder.
"Hey Virgil, you're doing it wrong! It's supposed to look more floaty!" he put in, causing the artist to frown.
"Dude, I already told you I was drawing a racing car for Alan, not a fish!"
"But fishies are way cooler than cars!"
Scott had to hold back his laughter.
"Hey Johnny, want to play Xbox?" Alan innocently offered, holding out his controller.
"Woah, hang on! How come big brother Scott doesn't get an invite but big brother John does?" Scott pouted, folding his arms in mock anger.
Alan just giggled in response, "Big brother John gives us chocolate!"
"He does, does he?"
"And isn't a big moody butt like you are!" John added, bobbing his tongue out at Scott who petulantly folded his arms, pretending to be hurt.
After a few moments, the brothers laughed.
