Three Vampires came out from the mist. Two males, one female. The first male was tall, with a slight build, and short, cropped black hair. The second male was a bit shorter, with his long, blond hair pulled into a ponytail. The female had long, wild bright red hair. Their walk was cat-like but still graceful, and they all had crimson red eyes that almost sent shivers down my spine.
Carlisle stepped forwards. "Hello,"
"Hello. My name is Laurent, and these are James and Victoria." The man in front said.
"I'm Carlisle, and this is my wife and mate, Esme, and our adopted kids—Bella, Edward, Jasper, Alice, Emmett and Rosalie."
"We heard a game, and wondered if we could play."
"We were just finishing up. Maybe we could go back to my house and talk."
"House?"
"Yes. We've lived here about two years now. If you come, we can explain."
"We would love to come, but how about after a game?"
"Sure, why not? What's the harm?" Carlisle gave in.
"Good."
Carlisle threw the ball, and Victoria caught it.
"I'm the one with the wicked curveball."
Jasper smirked. "I think we can manage that."
"Emmett, Alice, Bella, Edward get to the truck." Carlisle instructed.
"Come on, darling." Bella whispered.
That's when the wind blew my scent towards the nomads.
"You brought a snack?" James asked.
"Stay away from him," Bella said in a low, deadly, dangerous voice. Bella was a force not to be reckoned with.
"But he's human." Laurent pointed out.
"I don't give a fuck." Bella growled.
"We will not harm the human, and we will gladly accept your invitation." Laurent said.
"Emmett, Alice, Bella, take Edward to the jeep."
"Let's go." Bella said urgently.
Bella threw me onto her back and started running through the forest. Alice and Emmett were only a bit behind.
When we reached the jeep, I got into the back seat. Bella drove, Alice in the passenger seat, Emmett next to me. I wonder what was happening.
"What's going on?" I asked.
"In case no one could tell, James is a tracker, and he wants Edward. My shield can also tell me what Vampire has what gift."
"Why does he want me?"
"Probably because there's so many Vampires protecting one human."
"He was eyeing the situation like it was a challenge." I noted.
"Yes."
"Where are we going?"
"Away from Forks."
"But what about my parents?" I asked. "They need protection! They'll be all over your family if I disappear."
"I need to get you away from Forks and hidden."
"Bella, just listen to my plan, alright?" She sighed and nodded. "You take me home—"
"No." She growled.
"—and I tell my parents that I'm sick of Forks and want to leave. I pack my things, and you can take me any damn place you want."
"It's not a bad idea, really." Emmett said.
"Okay. Then, once you're packed, I'll take you somewhere safe."
"But where?" Emmett asked.
"Chicago. It's so big, we can stay in a hotel, and James won't think we'd be stupid enough to take us home."
"It's a good idea." Emmett agreed.
"Yes. But Bella, you should let Jasper and I take him. James will know you're with him. He knows you two are mates."
"Jasper doesn't have enough self-control." Bella reminded Alice.
"I'll keep him in control."
"Fine." Bella snapped.
"Emmett should stay, too." I said. Emmett gave me a weird look. He was horrified, and disgusted. He wanted to kill James, just for fun. "James got an eyeful of Emmett. Besides, you'll catch James easier if you stay."
"Fine, I'll stay." Emmett snapped.
"Well, now that the plan's figured out, let's put it into action." Emmett grinned, making Bella roll her eyes.
