Chapter two:
Frisk takes a picture of the next hallway before she starts walking down it. She can see the ground is painted white with wood beam trees plus painted on ones on the wall. She notices some hard to see stairs where she can go down. Though she sees that the area is really dark, and she can hear someone talking to themselves. She swears it's almost like some other language. She notices a light switch. She flips it only to be greeted by a hunched figure on the landing of the stairs.
The figure appears to be just lurking just outside of an area that is boarded up. Wearing a black ripped robe as if trying to almost look like hes melting. His black clothes popping out from dirty damaged white walls. He looks deathly pale, deathly skinny, tall, bald, scars on his face on both of his eyes, one above the eye them one below the other eye, the eye with the scar above it appears to be dropping so he can only open it halfway, his eyes appear to be a light purple that at a distance could be mistaken as white, and a creepy toothless smile. He turns to look to Frisk only to reach out towards her. His movements show that his hands don't work properly, most likely due to the holes in the centre of his hands. He continues to speak in a strange language that Frisk does not understand at all.
"Oh. Sorry for disturbing you. Wrong room." Frisk turns off the light quickly heading back upstairs. She tries to continue to got on her way knowing there's no way she can go down those stairs. She does notice that the cameras seem to be more than likely working. She wonders if anyone is watching her. Her attention is turned to something on the ground. She notices a large plank of wood and approaches it. She examines it though doesn't see any obvious traps. She tries to pick it up only to find that it is nailed to weights.
Making it much too heavy to lift on her own.
So Frisk steps over it moving on. She jumps with a small yelp at hearing a bang behind her. She swears it was like someone jumped down and landed on something. She hesitantly and slowly turns around. She hears footsteps that run off somewhere before she is fully turned around. She ends up noticing that the plank of wood is broken in half now. She glances around though figures that whoever did this must have retreated to the shadows. She turns so her back is to the wood and she begins walking once more. She is now on higher alert for any signs of anyone being nearby. She hears the sound of someone walking a few steps behind her. She spins around though whoever it was must have leapt out of view. She walks backwards a few steps before remembering that there might be traps. She turns back around to continue walking. She arrives to the middle of the long hallway. She gazes upon a structure built before her.
The structure looks like some kind of archway or gate. It is made of planks of wood that look to be torn from somewhere; as there were still nails sticking out that looked old and rusted. The spaces between the planks is wide enough that she can pass through if she wants. It's clear that this structure isn't really going to stop anyone, except for maybe rather overweight people.
Frisk is about to take a step to go through, when she hears footsteps approaching from behind. She finds herself frozen in place as the footsteps stop right behind her.
A deep and slightly rough voice speaks from behind her. "Human." The male doesn't move closer and instead continues to speak. "Don't you know how to greet a new pal? Turn around and shake my hand."
With the fear of what this unknown male might do if she refuses, Frisk turns a little slowly to face the male.
The male is a little short. He has on a blue hoodie, that's unzipped showing his grey shirt as well as his pale neck, black basketball shorts with a white stripe, and pink slippers. His legs that Frisk can see look pale and skinny almost as if the other is skin and bones. He has his grey hood of his hoodie pulled up over his head. His face hidden by the shadow of the hood. His clothes almost seem to just hang off of his body. He reaches out offering a thin looking pale hand.
After a moments hesitation Frisk reaches out in return. She gently grips the hand finding it to be a little cold as she is about to try to shake his hand. She keeps her grip gentle not wanting to break his hand. She pauses as there is the sound of a fart. She can feel something rubber like against her hand that vibrates a little. She relaxes a little realizing that it was a joke.
The two release each other's hand as the sound comes to an end.
The male takes off his hood to reveal his smiling face and bald head. His face is as pale as the rest of his body, not to mention also looking thin like the rest of him; as though he had been starving himself leaving him skin and bones. He has some rather nice looking blue eyes, if only he looked more healthy. His eyes have heavy dark circles under them giving his eyes a more sunken in look. He has something black smeared on his nose so it's all black. His teeth are surprisingly mostly white and straight, along with his front teeth being flat looking at the ends. The tops of his teeth appear to click together when he closes his mouth. "Hehehe... The old whoopee cushion in the hand trick." He laughs a little before continuing. "It's ALWAYS funny. Anyways, you're a human. Right?"
Frisk nods her head. In her mind she almost wonders if those here would see her as an angel or devil. She brings back her attention to the male with her as he continues on.
"That's hilarious." The male is grinning widely as though rather amused at the idea.
Causing Frisk to begin worrying for her safety. She isn't sure what this man might try to do. She doesn't get much further in thought as the male once again speaks.
"I'm Sans. Sans the Skeleton." The male introduces himself still smiling.
Frisk gives a small friendly smile to him still a little on edge. "My names Frisk. Frisk the human I suppose." She hopes that by playing along she'll be able to get out of here.
"Frisk huh? That's a nice name." Sans mentions upon hearing her introduce herself. "You know I'm actually supposed to be on watch for humans right now." He explains stuffing his hands into his hoodie pockets. "But... Y'know..." He shrugs to this. "I don't really care about capturing anyone. But my brother. Papyrus. He is a human-hunting fanatic. He's actually the one who built this gate." He gestures to it.
Frisk only partially turns to it secretly scared to take her eyes off of Sans. She doesn't know if he might reveal a nasty side or something.
"Yeah I know. The gaps are too big to stop anyone. And I suppose it doesn't look like much of a gate. But I think he did pretty well in Snowdin forest."
Snowdin forest... that name... Frisk can imagine trees around her and snow on the ground. She pulls herself into reality to focus on what she needs to do to survive.
"Oh hey. I think I hear him coming this way." Sans mentions bringing Frisk on alert. He moves closer to the female who flinches. Though just as she's about to punch Sans he starts pushing her.
She follows his pushes making sure that he doesn't lead her to some hole. She heads through the supposed 'gate' and into a room. She glances around as they arrive at it.
There is two yoga looking balls sitting side by side, as if it's to show a half completed attempt at making a snowman, a lamp that looks like it fell onto its side then pieced together again is on a little table, a window on the wall in the centre of this spot that's across from the entry way, a couch has been moved to face the wall with the window on it, wooden beams tied together to make posts on either side of the couch, and a large torn board is nailed to the front of the beams spanning across that couch's back with the top poking out. That part with the couch looks like a booth or sentry station of some kind.
Frisk does manage to notice that the beams appear to have more wood around the bottom. She supposes that it is for support.
"Quickly. Go behind that conveniently shaped lamp." Sans stops pushing her only to point to the lamp on the table.
Frisk carefully heads over checking for traps... Only to find none... She hears footsteps coming and ducks behind the lamp. She crouches peering slightly around the lamp to watch what happens.
The footsteps get closer and closer until another, who is most likely another male, comes into the room. The male is taller than Sans, sharing some resemblance, looks thin and pale, his eyes appear to be on the more orange side of colours, also being bald, and his nose has something black smeared on it like Sans. He is wearing a dirty white t-shirt, blue short shorts, black leggings, a slightly torn red scarf around his neck, red wrist length full fingers knitted gloves, and red boots with three black rectangles on the front plus a brown bottom.
"Sup Bro?" Sans greets as chilled out as ever with his smile still on his face.
Frisk can conclude that the other male must be Papyrus, since Sans mentioned thats his brother.
"You know what's up brother!" Papyrus tells his brother, in a slightly loud voice, looking at him as the other just looks back. "You have been neglecting your duties!" He brings a hand up to his head and rubs his forehead with a slight sigh. He lowers his hand turning back to his brother to continue. "You've been neglecting your puzzles. It's been eight days and you haven't recalibrated any of them!" He reminds the other who just softly shrugs about it. "All you ever do is just hang around outside of your sentry station! What are you even doing?!"
"Oh I was just looking at that lamp." Sans gestures to it as Frisk feels her heart stop in her chest momentarily.
Frisk tries to keep her breathing calm. She hopes that at least if Papyrus turns to look in her direction she won't be seen.
"It's actually pretty cool. Wanna take a look?"
Papyrus huffs slightly at the response his brother has given him. He turns his back to the lamp and stomps his foot on the ground. His hands clenched into fists. "No!" He declares with an upset and slightly angry tone. "I don't have the time for that! What if a human comes through here!? We have to be ready! I want to be ready!" He stops his stomping and lets his hands uncurl. "I will be the one. I must be the one!" His tone has turned to a more hopeful one than before. "I will capture a human!" After he makes that statement he turns to face Sans. He stands tall puffing out his chest as best as he can. "I the great Papyrus will get the things that I most utterly deserve! Respect! Recognition! And I'll be able to join the royal guard!"
The royal guard?
Frisk almost sighs to herself.
Of course there's a royal guard in this place. Why wouldn't there be?
"Others will ask to be my friend?" Papyrus is still hopeful though he sounds rather unsure about that part. He brushes it off and continues on. "I shall bathe in a shower of kisses every morning!"
Frisk can't help thinking that wow does Papyrus ever have an imagination on him.
Sans hums softly in thought as his brother looks to him standing normally again. "Maybe this lamp will help you?"
Frisk does hear the joking tone in Sanss voice, though she wants to shout at him to stop hinting to where she is. She remains quiet and still as she continues to watch.
"Sans!" Papyrus groans and stomps his foot on the floor. "You're not helping! You're not taking this seriously! You're such a lazy bones! All you do is sit around and Boondoggle!" His tone having turned back to frustration. "You just keep getting lazier all of the time!"
"What can I say?" Sans takes his hands out of his pockets to raise them in a more defined shrug. "But don't worry." He lowers his arms as his brother watches him sternly. "I did get a ton of work done today." He winks at his brother as he puts his hands back into his pockets. "A skele-ton!"
"Sans!" Papyrus groans and moves one hand to cover his mouth. "Stop it!"
"What? You don't have the stomach for it?" Sans questions no longer winking at his brother who groans louder. "Hey bro. I know you're smiling."
"I am and I hate it!" Papyrus throws his hand down away from his mouth. "Why does someone as great as me have to do so much to get the recognition that I deserve?"
"Hey bro. Sounds like you should take a break." Sans begins and Papyrus eyes him suspiciously. "Because it sounds like you're working yourself down to the bone."
Papyrus shakes his head as if losing all hope that Sans will stop with the puns. "Im going to recalibrate my puzzles to be ready. Then if I catch the human I'll be..." He puts his hands on his cheeks. His eyes shining. "Then I will be popular! Popular! Popular! Popular! And for your work." He lowers his hands turning a little serious with a hint of playfulness. "You should put more backbone into it! Nyeh Heh heh heh heh heh!"
"Whatever you say bro." Sans just has such a chilled out look and personality, that Frisk is feeling better.
"Good. I'll be back to check on you later." Sigh that Papyrus heads back the way that he came from. He moves quickly with things to do. He pauses then comes back for a moment. "Heh." He taunts Sans a little from his pun that he had done. He then heads off again this time not turning back.
After waiting for a moment Sans turns to the lamp. "You can come out now."
Frisk emerges from behind the lamp and turns to look to Sans. "What was that? You tried to give away my hiding spot."
"I was just messing with the both of you." Sans chuckles as though it had all been a joke.
Frisk stares at him clearly not thinking the same thing.
Sans stops his laughter as a thought comes to his mind. "Oh. By the way. Since you're heading through anyway, mind doing me a favour?"
"I have a good enough reason to say no." Frisk mentions raising an eyebrow. She can't believe that he wants her to help him after he put her hiding spot at risk.
"Aw come on. It's not that bad." Sans almost doesn't seem to be phased by Frisks response. "Look, all I need you to do is go along with my brother's things." He turns to look where Papyrus had left out of. "My bro's been a bit down lately. He has t seen a human before." He explains as Frisk holds back the words that they themselves are humans. "I think seeing you will get his spirits up again. Really make his day. Oh and don't worry about him. He's not that dangerous. Not unless you make him angry enough to truly be one. Though that takes something more specific. So I'm sure that you'll be alright."
Frisk blinks at Sans realizing that the other truly cares about his brother. She can look upon him as insane and generally messed up in the head. Though she can't take away the fact that he is willing to ask a stranger for help all for Papyrus. She feels her heart fill up with warmth inside of it. "Okay." She agrees and turns to where Papyrus headed off too.
"Great!" Sans responds happily and turns in the opposite direction. "Thanks a bunch kid. I'll meet you up ahead." He walks in the opposite direction of where Papyrus went; though Frisk doesn't correct him.
Frisk gains a question in her head and she turns to where Sans was going. "Oh. By the way Sans..." Her words come to a stop as she finds that no one is nearby. She looks around spinning to check one section then another, yet no one is here. She feels some relief that Sans doesn't seem to be preparing to attack. She tries to think that he knows he needs her to help his brother.
So surely he just went into the shadows or something to pretend that he went somewhere. Perhaps he went through some kind of shortcut.
Those who seem to live here probably know all the secrets.
Frisk turns away forgetting all about her question. She heads along going after Papyrus as she walks carefully. She exits the room and comes to another hallway. She feels like it's almost like a maze here. She just hopes she'll be able to get out of it. She continues and pauses by a doorway, just a doorway for the room Sans took her to, as something catches her eye. She looks down spotting an open book with a few things written on it. She crouches for a closer look and sees that it is two names with dates plus the time in different handwriting. She does her best to make out the two names.
The first half of the entries are form a Chara. The second half is from a Flowey.
Frisk isn't sure what to make of this. She supposes that maybe Chara felt the need to write those times in it, then Flowey started to do the same. She gets a feeling like they're definitely two very different people.
Their handwritings are so clearly different, so it most likely isn't one person playing two characters.
Frisk decides to write in that book. She grabs the pen that is nearby it and writes in it. She puts in her first name and the date. She puts the pen down once it is done. She hopes to be able to use this at some point. Just so she can know if she's been here before. She takes a picture of the book believing it'll be some good proof she was in the building. She gets up and turns continuing on her way. She doesn't get very far as she turns to notice a box.
The wood is worn and dark with dust, while the area for it to clip shut looks rusted and so old.
Frisk carefully unlatches the chest and opens it. She sees that it is empty as though waiting for her to fill it with something. She decides to not to put anything inside so she just closes it. She continues off on her way wondering what in the world could be next.
The floors creak under her feet a bit giving her some anxiety.
Frisk isn't sure how stable everything is so she takes each step cautiously. Not wishing to fall somewhere she'll either die or not be able to get out of. She pauses as she hears something to her right. She sees a small hallway with a few doors leading to either some rooms or closets. She glances the way she was going then heads down the side hall. She hopes to find a staircase that might lead to a way out. She pauses as a door creaks open next to her. She spots a figure standing in the darkness. "Hello?"
A young teen steps out of the darkness. He has paper snowflakes attached to him by strings. He has too large sunglasses that cover too much of his face. "Hey, 'ice' to meet you." The teen greets Frisk who gives a small smile.
Frisk laughs a little hoping that he is trying to be funny. She feels some relief when she sees his face brighten.
"See! Laughs! Dad was wrong!" The teen leaps happily at the fact that he got a laugh.
Frisk is relieved by this and cautiously starts to move away. She hears the teen head off back into the room with a hurried pace.
Not even shutting the door behind himself.
Frisk sighs in relief and continues on. She peeks into the rooms along the way. She sees a break room, two closets, a laundry room, and a bathroom. She gets to the end of the hallway. She looks down to her feet noticing an old fishing pole. She picks it up then noticing that it goes down a hole in the floor. She reels it up with curiosity. She finds a drawn picture of some weird looking monster. She also notices random numbers scribbled on it. She squints to read the messy writing at the bottom.
Call me! Here's my number!
Frisk lowers the line back down the hole deciding not to call. She heads back down the hall and continues on the way she was going. She sees a little further ahead the brothers walk into her path together. She stops walking and they appear to be talking to one another.
"So, As I was saying about Undyne." Papyrus pauses and turns as if spotting Frisk. He turns to Sans who turns to see what he looking at. He turns back to Frisk as Sans turns to him.
They go back and forth like this for a minute before they're both facing her.
Frisk waits feeling a little nervous. She remembers the reassurance though she is still wary. She blinks in confusion as the two turn away leaning their heads close.
"Sans! Oh my God! Is that... A Human!?" Papyrus loudly whispers to his brother then the two look back in Frisks direction.
Frisk turns noticing their gazes go to something behind her. She turns fearfully thinking that someone was sneaking up on her. She doesn't see anyone then notices a rock by some glass from a broken window.
"Uhhhh..." Sans sounds a bit surprised at first. "Actually, I think that's just a rock." He informs his brother as Frisk turns back to them.
Papyruss face falls in disappointment upon hearing this. "Oh." He turns away though pauses as Sans speaks again.
"Hey, what's that in front of the rock?" Sans looks right at Frisk this time.
Papyrus turns following his brothers gaze to land upon Frisk this time. "Oh My God!" He gasps at seeing her standing there. He turns back to Sans to loudly whisper again, as his brother turns to him. "Is... Is that a human?!"
"Yes." Sans whispers loudly back with a nod of his head.
"Oh My God!" Papyrus turns back to Frisk along with Sans. "Sans! I finally did it!" His voice is beaming with loud happiness. "Undyne will..." He then pauses as if his happiness is causing him to not be able to get his words out properly. "I'm gonna... I'll be so... Popular! Popular! Popular!" He is grinning from ear to ear at this point. He glances away and clears his throat before turning back to Frisk. He is doing his best serious face though he can't hide his wide grin. "Human!" He points a finger at Frisk who listens in quiet. "You shall not pass this area!" He states as if it is a fact. "I, The Great Papyrus, will stop you!" He adds pointing to himself as he stands tall and proud. "I will then capture you!" He lowers his hand to his side with his other hand on his hip. "You will be delivered to the capital! Then... Then!" He pauses glancing away in uncertainty and thoughtfulness. "Actually, I'm not really sure what's next." He admits out loud only to turn back to Frisk seriously. "In any case! Continue... Only if you dare!" He challenges her before turning and running off through a doorway without any doors. "Nyeh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh!"
Sans remains there turned to watch as his brother runs off. He is smiling to himself about the whole thing. He glances back to Frisk. "Well, that went well. Don't sweat it kid." He adds seeing nervousness on her. "I'll keep an eye socket out for ya." He winks at her before turning to walk off heading where his brother went off to.
