Chapter five:
This child has spiked brown hair with shaved sides, a yellow and brown stripped shirt with empty sleeves as this boy has no arms, he has on yellow pants, yellow clawed feet slippers, and a dinosaur tail probably cut from a costume, then sown to his pants like his tail. He has the tail painted yellow with brown bumps. "Whoa! Did you see that? Undyne was there! And she looked our way! That was so cool!"
Frisk quickly realizes that this boy is not a threat. She finds herself relaxing a bit.
"My name is Monster Kid. But you can call me Mk. What about you?"
"Frisk."
"Frisk? Well it is nice to meet you. Come on. Lets walk together for a bit." MK takes the lead heading the direction that they were going to go.
Frisk follows along with him managing to keep pace with him.
They come to a place where there is a large puddle with blow up flower floaters beside it.
"We use these to cross." MK explains so Frisk puts them down pushing them into the best position she can.
The two of them carefully hop along the floating devices making it to the other side. They do this again as MK keeps leading her the way they should go. They are stopped as a clearly adult man steps out.
This man is very muscular, pale and shirtless. His bottom half is in some kind of mermaid costume tail. He starts to flex. "Yeah! Check this out!"
"Wow." Frisk offers a slightly nervous smile. "That's so great."
"Flex with me!" The other demands and MK glances to Frisk since he can't do so.
Frisk though nervous does a flex.
"Yeah! That's right! Work those muscles!"
Frisk smiles a little more realizing that everything is okay. She flexes more getting even more encouragement.
The other keeps flexing harder and harder.
After a few good flexes the two stop and are sweating from the flexing contest.
"That was great! Of course you can't beat me but you did wonderful! The name is Aaron."
"Frisk." Frisk wipes her sweaty brow.
"We'll could you do me a favor Frisk?" Aaron doesn't even bother wiping himself off.
"Depends what." Frisk doesn't want to make any promises.
"If you see Shyren, could you try to get her to sing? I just love the way she does so. However she gets really shy about it." Aaron asks and Frisk feels like it is manageable.
"Sure." Frisk agrees to this smiling. "I'll do my best."
"Thanks so much!"
"Look at you. All dirty. Dirty dirty."
The two turn as a preteen wearing a box that is painted to look like a washing machine, comes to Aaron. Only to use a bucket of water this bald child is carrying, and a cloth hidden inside to start cleaning Aaron. Muttering about how filthy the other is.
"Frisk!" MK calls and nods when she turns to see that he has moved. He leads her away as they leave the two behind. He takes her past the area with Aaron and the one cleaning him.
They pause as someone starts making ringing sounds.
Frisk turns and in a room she sees Papyrus peeking out. She pretends to pick up the imagined phone. "Hello?" She questions and notices Papyrus smile.
"Hey human!" Papyrus declares loudly, and MK seems to ignore where it's actually coming from.
MK watches Frisk as though waiting for her to get off of her 'cell'.
"Um hey Papyrus."
"Say. You didn't change clothes did you? Maybe put something on?" Papyrus inquires and Frisk almost asks if he's joking.
Frisk reminds herself that in Papyruss mind they are on a phone call. So she knows that means he can't see her... At least in his mind. "No. I didn't." She admits and turns to glance to MK. She really hopes that she is going to get out soon.
"Ok. Then I'll tell Undyne that you're not wearing what you were wearing. Be careful out there human." Papyrus makes a clock sound then heads off into the room disappearing from sight.
Frisk stops pretending to have a phone.
"Come on!" MK encourages and starts heading off.
Frisk follows. "Say. You wouldn't know how to get out of here? Would you?"
"Out of waterfall? Well I can take you to hotland if you want." MK responds cheerfully.
"No." Frisk watches him. "I mean out of here. I want to go home."
At this MK stops as does Frisk though the other won't look at her. "You mean out of the underground?"
"Yes. I want to return to where the other humans are." Frisk really hopes that she is getting through to him. She just has to keep talking in a way he's more likely to understand. "Please."
"There's only one way out. But it's blocked by the barrier." MK informs her still not turning around.
"The barrier..." Frisk mummers at hearing this.
"Yeah. No one can pass through it." MK turns to look to her with a serious look on his face. "But don't worry. One day Asgore is going to break the barrier and free us all. We'll be able to be on the surface again."
Frisk feels her heart drop at the thought of them getting free. She wonders if they'd get the help they need, or if they'd be studied like they are lab rats. She also can't imagine possible trouble to others that they could very well cause. "I see. Then lets go on." She tries to not let her fear of them getting free show.
MK smiles at this. "Okay!" He takes the lead once more as Frisk follows for now.
"How do we get to the hotlands?" Frisk inquires as they walk. She figures she'll have to figure out how to get out of here on her own. She can't help looking at how they've tried to make this place look like how they think it does.
"Well we have to finish going through waterfall first." MK explains to her as they walk along. He leads her in the direction that they need to take.
Frisk is still skeptical about MK though she only has so many choices.
MK gets her to a room with many fake blue flowers.
Frisk can't help noticing someone lurking around on their stomach. Though she can't really make anything out of that person.
"Say. What's your wish?" The person seems to whisper trying to imitate a passing conversation. Even giving two different voices. "Okay, but you gotta promise you won't laugh. Okay. I promise I won't. My wish is to escape this place and to see the real stars in the sky." He, Frisk is guessing, pauses to let out a laugh before continuing. "Hey! You said you wouldn't laugh. Sorry. It's just that it is my wish too. I want to be free as well." The person stays and lets the two leave that part.
MK pauses at a room just past that area. "I like going through there. Because it leads to here." He turns and looks out to the ceiling.
Frisk turns to do the same only to blink in surprise. She can see a large slightly dark room has been decorated.
There's cups, bottles, and other such things decorated in possibly glittery substance, then lit up which must have taken awhile. It doesn't look like they use the highest setting, probably preceding the lower one.
Frisk has to admit though the way the decorations glitter and sparkle, looks amazing. She can even see a flashlight left on the floor to shine upon an image of a castle.
"It's so beautiful here. Do the stars really look like the gems do?" MK doesn't look to her as he stares at what is meant to be the sky in a sense.
Frisk bites her lip. She doesn't want to get his hopes up about escaping. She also wants him to have a good answer. She manages to come up with a decision. She can't look at MK as she says this. "The stars aren't as beautiful as this place. But they're nice." She actually loves the stars. She really feels like this place can't compare. She just hopes that her answer is a best of both worlds kind of answer. She's almost starting to feel bad about planning to leave them here. Even though she is sure that it is the best course of action for her. No way can she release a bunch of mentally insane people into the world. She needs to leave things to professionals.
"Huh. Who would have guessed." MK hums in interest.
Frisk prays that he doesn't realize hes been lied to. She doesn't know what kind of retaliation this insane person will show.
MK turns to Frisk with a smile, not noticing the bead of sweat drip down her forehead. "Thank you for telling me!" He turns away as Frisk relaxes at hearing this. "Well. We might as well get moving. You wanted to get to hotlands."
Frisk nods and the two continue off once more. She's starting to feel confident about things and how it's going.
The two head along until they arrive to a spot where there is a pile of random stuff.
"Here. I can lift you up. I can find my own way around." MK offers to Frisk and crouches leaning forward, so she can step on his back.
Frisk hesitates worried that she'll be too heavy for the child. She glances to the pile realizing that she could try to get out faster this way. She steps onto MKs back, and he manages to lift her to where she can crawl onto the top of a desk. She glances back in which Mk stands up.
MK smiles at her. "I'll see you up ahead." He turns running off after that.
Frisk turns away and jumps down to the other side. She walks along looking for a way out. She pauses spotting a room with a flickering computer.
There's wood planks ripped from somewhere then hastily nailed to the block the door.
Frisk raises one leg and squeezes into the room between two boards. She straightens, only then she spots with wide eyes a man slumped dead in a chair. She feels like throwing up though manages to hold it in. She moves closer wanting to get to the computer. She gets close enough that she can see him wearing a white lab coat. She can't tell much about the man who seems to have been dead for awhile. She doesn't even want to focus on him enough to actually get a good look anyways. She wipes the dusty name card clean. "Doctor Sean." She turns to the computer and pushes the chair away to access it better. She finds a Kleenex box with one tissue left. She uses it to wipe away enough dust from the screen. She finds that there is no internet though there is files she can check. She feels like she should find out what is going on at least. She finds a specific folder catches her attention.
Experiment logs.
Frisk clicks the on the file getting a bad feeling from it. She sees all sorts of videos, word documents, pictures, and files from some art sketch app. She scrolls all the way down to the first thing put in the folder. She finds it is a video. She clicks on it in which a video player takes up the screen.
A man in a lab coat shifts to lean forward in the chair of the room she's in, just it looks more normal and clean. He has short brown hair, a blue turtle neck shirt, and green eyes from what can be seen on camera.
"We were asked to save everything that we are working on. So we can review the information as needed. So this is Doctor Sean."
Frisk swallows a little harshly at hearing the name. She doesn't dare look to his body.
"And we have a brand new experiment that we are starting. We took a vow of silence on the whole thing. Hopefully though this will bring about something great for humanity. Especially for those of the mentally insane, like those that we house here. Our experiment is that we plan to get into their minds. If everything goes well we may be able to change perspectives on life and reality. For the first update that is all I have to say. Until more is done."
As the video ends Frisk stares at the screen mouth open. She can't believe that they'd experiment on those that needed help. She closes her mouth quickly finding another video. She doesn't have time to watch it all though maybe she can piece things together.
Doctor Sean is seen this time in a grey regular shirt. "Our first subject that I mentioned before is responding well so far. Though we still keep him separated from the others. His schizophrenia delusions have gone from delusions of demons everywhere, to just hearing voices. His irrational behavior has greatly reduced. He still remains cautious though we are starting to see a personality he hid come out. My next step is to try to channel the voices to hopefully change how he understands things. The videos we force him to watch is where we started. If I can broadcast certain sounds, words, then maybe we can change things further. Doctor Sean out."
Frisk quickly goes to another random one.
Doctor Sean looks a little worried and he has on a black shirt. "The tests have gone well. The head of this whole thing wants the first subject to interact with others." He pauses to rub his chin before his hand drops to the desks surface. "I know that they want to expand, to see if it'll work on the others here, but we don't know how the others will react. These people don't think like we do. And our subjects hallucinations have gotten to the point where he believes he is not human. He claims to be a large goat monster. I don't know how things will go though if I could convince the others to not do it, I would. It's just I can't go against the orders from the head. Hopefully things will go well. Maybe the others will actually see this man as someone to not trust, or be near. With worried hopes Doctor Sean."
Frisk is quick to select another video and Doctor Sean is seen head in his hands. She swears it seems more frustrated than sad.
Doctor Sean lifts his head showing him wearing a white shirt that blends with the lab coat. "Things have only gotten worse. It's like a disease infecting those that interact with the test subject. They're creating this massive thing. I just can't believe it started with a few then just kept growing." He sighs heavily and glances away. "The others who were the first to join our subject have been started on the same treatment. Then they interact with the others afterwards. Spreading these ideas further." He shakes his head closing his eyes before opening them to look to the camera again. "Things weren't supposed to happen like this. We were supposed to be able to make them better, maybe even be able to serve as soldiers who are better than the sane ones. Now it's just turned into a see what happens next thing. We have a man who kidnapped people he hallucinated were his family. He, under this monster hallucination, has lost a lot of weight. Claiming his skeleton body is too fat when he summons it. He's looking more like a skeleton in a human disguise. He even colored the scars he had from an accident black." He glances down. "Those affected have given themselves new names. They have even tried changing things to match what this mass hallucination is seeing. It's just all gone wrong in my books. We only made these people sicker. More are even brought in because no one knows the truth. I'll try bringing my concerns up at the next meeting. Though I doubt it'll change anything." He ends the video on that.
Frisk clicks onto another one wanting to know more.
Doctor Sean this time has a light blue button up shirt. "This is going to be another general update. Not an update on what we've been doing. Though I will say that we have had continued success on making them think they're certain types of monsters. Some that are just silly and others more understandable. In which they create the details themselves. Anyways... The whole facility except for the staff is infected with this hallucination. They continue to do what they can to make themselves look closer to what they think they are. Other doctors even supply them with these things. They have refused to speak to us about things. Claiming that we're humans taking monsters prisoner for information. Things are getting too out of control. However I'm just brushed off because the head has them convinced that it's worth it. I think they feel too invested to quit now. I just know something is going to go down. The tension is growing. All that's been done to prevent it is to keep the doctors in a wing where the patients aren't. They have to be brought by security to appointments. Somethings going to break eventually. And I hope that it's the other doctors. So we can end this and give them the help they need because of us. A hopeful doctor Sean out."
Frisk realizes that the amount of videos she has skipped makes her he close to the top. She clicks on one and Doctor Sean looks cautiously towards the door.
Doctor Sean turns back to the computers camera. "This is bad. The patients have become violent. We're not allowed to bring them for appointments. They said that we humans have started a war against them. That we want them gone or dead. Because of what they think is kidnapping them for information. They've killed a security guard. The head is planning in his office. He'll announce what we will do. If only they'd realized things sooner like me. We might have been able to prevent this. But the results were too important for them to see past it. If the head doesn't decide to bring in officials I will be a whistle blower. I am tired of being pushed aside when I bring up issues. I don't want to allow this any longer. This has gone way too far."
Frisk clicks on the final video skipping two others only this time.
Doctor Sean has a bloody grey shirt, a bloody lab coat and he looks terrified. "I don't know how much time I have. I did contact the CIA. I have a friend there. The monsters attacked us all. I managed to get into the locked off area. I don't have much time. So whoever sees this please tell my family I love them." He looks like a man who has given up hope. "These mad people have claimed that we locked them underground. When I saw the cameras they've changed things using all sorts of supplies. Supplies bought for them and supplies for us. They were spoiled too much in supplies in my belief. They're making it into how they now view the world. As if they're underground in some mountain. That they lost the human war. They've killed everyone else on the staff team. They're coming for me. And I don't think I can hold them off." He quickly ends the video as banging can be heard on the door.
Frisk stands there staring at the screen. She should have known. She should have known that this was all an experiment gone wrong. She looks down finding her hands are trembling. She moves them away from the desk and clenches her hands into fists. She can't believe people would do this to mentally ill people. She sighs and tries to relax. She can't do anything to change it. She'll just have to find a way out. She also hopes that she can figure out what happened with the CIA about it. She turns and leaves the room. She squeezes through the wood again then heads off. She finds herself coming to a small area with a piece of cheese in what looks like pink jello. She approaches and looks at it before turning to leave it. She ends up turning right to go to the next room. She finds herself in a room where Sans is next to a telescope. She also spots a box that probably has something in it. She approaches Sans first.
"Hey. Wanna look through my telescope?" Sans offers with a grin. "It's 500G."
"Um sorry no thanks." Frisk doubts anyone has that money.
"Well for you I'll let you look in it for free." Sans mentions still smiling. "You did help out making my bro happy."
Frisk supposes it can't hurt. So she peers through the telescope with a small thanks. She finds she can only see red she pulls back about to tell Sans it's broken or blocked, when he starts chuckling.
"Nice eye."
Frisk raises a hand touching her eye felling that it is damp with something. She looks into a puddle she spots seeing that she's been pranked. She has red liquid on her eye which thankfully isn't blood. She wipes it off then glances to Sans giving him a smile. "Nice. Thanks for that." She checks the box though she doesn't see anything useful.
Sans seems to watch her as she leaves.
Frisk just heads along going down the hall. She has ignored the rooms to be able to keep going. She spots Papyrus up ahead and has a feeling she'll get a 'phone call.'. She keeps going and notices a pair of bloody ballet shoes sitting on the ground. She leaves them there to continue onward. She sees Papyrus pretend to call her so she pretends to pick up.
"Hey human. I actually told Undyne what you were wearing. Since I figured you'd change after getting asked that." Papyrus explains making Frisk freeze. "Well I do wish you luck out there. I need to go." He pretends to hang up then heads off.
Frisk sighs and pretends to be off the phone. She shakes her head. She might be screwed. She opens her eyes and raises her head. She should just continue for now. She'll figure things out as she goes along. She just continues down the hall through a doorframe missing a door. She finds a path with holes in the floor on either side. She swallows harshly before beginning to walk across. She balances carefully to not fall. She pauses as suddenly out of a hole in the floor a lady pops out.
This lady stinks of onions, her well designed costume seems to be a mix of an onion and an octopus. She grins widely blinking eyes with make up to make them almost look like anime. "Hello hello! I am Onionsan!" She greets with a high pitched attempting to be cute voice. "I live here but it's a bit shallow for me in this water. I have to really crouch to be under the water." She informs Frisk who tries to not bring up the smell. "But when the barrier is broken I'll go live in the ocean! I heard that there's so much space there!"
"Yup. Sure is. Well I'll see you." Frisk heads off making it through that small hall. She breathes a sigh of relief quietly about not smelling it anymore. She keeps on going.
A woman in a mermaid tail is sitting by the door with her back turned. She is softly humming to herself though Frisk wonders if she's hearing things.
Frisk hums along causing the woman to slightly turn to her. She gets the other to slowly hum louder and louder figuring this is Shyren.
Soon enough the woman, who Frisk believes is Shyren, is fully facing Frisk and begins to sing. She has such a lovely voice that Frisk almost stops humming along. She smiles at Frisk after a little singing then drags herself off into the darkness.
So Frisk continues on. She spots a statue of a bear sitting under a leaking roof. She picks up the umbrella next to it then places it on the bear to protect it. She jumps at the sudden sound of music playing. She tries to shrug it off as a switch she must have hit. She leaves the room and ignores a piano by a door. She has a feeling that it won't help her get out of here. She can't waste much time on small things. She comes to an area where suddenly the spear she saw from Undyne was holding lands behind her. She yelps in surprise as it barely misses her. Her eyes widen as she sees Undyne charging for her. She turns away and dashes away. She hears Undyne rip the spear out from the floor.
Undynes footsteps sound so loud to Frisk like they're echoing around her.
Frisk tries to pick up the pace feeling adrenaline rush through her. She hears the makeshift spear stab the ground a few more times behind her. She refuses to look back and just keeps running. She skids to a stop almost falling over an edge. The area in front of her is broken and it's too wide of a gap to jump. She can see that it was broken possibly violently as there are sharp edges to the wood floor. She looks down only seeing darkness as if the area below is dark. She spins around just in time to see Undyne jump to try to hit her. She closes her eyes though Undyne lands hard enough to break the floor more. She opens her eyes and looks down as she falls with the part she was on. She passes out from the fear and belief that this is the end of her.
